What about the laying course . Do you mix sharp sand with cement 5:1 ?

So is it recommended to only use sharp sand and not mortar for a 50mm flag patio? If the flag is less than 50mm depth, it should be on mortar?

Hi Jonny enjoying your information
Just wondered if you could advise a problem a friend has with his Indian grey limestone slabs
He used a seka patio cleaner which cleaned the slabs perfectly, but a yellow staining has appeared which when I look at it, one can see that the colour is where there is no mortar below 🤦‍♂️
I’ve had a look for him with a selection of cleaners but can’t get anything to shift it, just wondered if you had any magic formular 🙂 thanks

Is it ok to compact the sub base when it is quite wet? I’ve raked the sub base around but with all the rain I’ve been delaying compacting. Just worried it won’t compress as it should.
