Shortly will be laying similar slab and I'm now glad we allowed 3 inch bed of concrete on top as area is 9m x 3.6 . If no easy mix primer can I make with SBR and cement . Good video, Thanks .
Great video 👍🏻, for years and years we haven’t used a slurry mix and I’ve never had any problems on sandstone , very hard to make the change but maybe I should . 5:1 sharp the best hard as iron 💪

had couple of hundreds squre meters of indian sandstone laid on ballast mix instead of sharp. it is porous and much easier to lay stones on it. obviously slurried the back of slabs with proper base and full mortar. can park even a tank on em and wont move.
Hi Kev hope you are safe there mate .. are you on Facebook? If you are get on Landscaping Survival I met some great guys across the pond at the Gie Expo in Louisville .. I will get a new drum
You mention using SBR when laying mortar and sandstone slabs onto an existing concrete base. You state this is for waterproofing.. I have therefore bought some SBR+. Can you tell me how I might apply it and in what mix / ratio? And what would be your instructions? Do I paint it onto the existing concrete base and let it dry or paint it on and them start putting the mix down while it is still wet / tacky? Thakns in advance for clarifying here Johnyboy!
Hi Rick mate, Just mix 50 50 and just wash it it over that concrete or you can actually slurry your concrete mate with an Priming slurry theres loads on the market.
Thanks for video great explanation. Laying granite slabs on a concrete footpath this summer myself. Had heard about sbr for to put on concrete slab to help adhesion. Have you ever put sbr on the paving slab to instead of the cement slurry? Thanks again.
On limestone light slabs should you mix sbr with white cement or does it not make any different? I've read i need to lay on a light mortar to avoid staining coming through.
Hi Tom, the SBR coated on the back will avoid fast absorption of the moisture out of the mortar that will result in delamination and it will ensure the slab adheres to the mortar, don't forget a full bed, stay safe mate
Could you not just make an SBR slurry with cement water an SBR an coat them fully before you lay them, would this stop anything getting through? Interesting topic, got a Indian sandstone patio to do an was think of doing that? I know it works well with porcelain 🤔
50/50 sharp and soft sand and cement ,SBR in water and primer slurry the back , leave a 50mm margin for ease of laying and not get slurry on your fingers and then all over face of the paving ,
Loving these videos, thank you for such informative walkthroughs. Im laying an Indian Sandstone Patio at the moment and struggling to find locally a priming slurry... do you have any recommendations for the EasyPrime in south wales? Im based near Llantristant. Thanks very much for your help.
I like to use a 4:1 ratio but with grit sand, and I prime the back of the flags with some PVA that's been watered down, to prevent the flags from popping up after the mortars gone off
I'm confused, in some of your vids you lay the bed of mortar and then you make small voids/spaces in the bed so that when the slab goes down it spreads into those voids you make. Here you've gone completely flat, am I missing something, I'm watching so many of your vids as I'm going to be laying Indian limestone in the next few months and I don't want to get it wrong. Great vids though - very informative and comprehensive.
Hi Buddy dont get confused with a calibrated stone slab or paving you can make flat but with uncalibrated you need a few voids to accommodate the uncalibrated paving, either way there are a few methods you can use, hope this helps?
was wondering if i make a portland cement slurry and a 4-1 mortar bed about 25 mm on a concrete base will this work for 600mm x 1200mm x 20mm porcelain tile for exterior patio work for me in canada?

Hi Johnny, im just sbout to lay some 6 side smooth / sawn indian sandstone. Never laid smooth / sawn before, i always prime the backs of sandstone with an SBR / cement slurry which i think works great. Just wondered if you seal the face before laying? I've never sealed before laying, but a few suppliers online are reccomended doing this because of how easy the slabs stain when laying. Whats your thoughts and any tips for laying smooth sandstone would be most welcome. Thanks Joe
Hi Joe, thank you for your feedback its really appreciated, its nice to see a positive sensible constructive comment. I think in some cases its just down to budget with the client. Anything that helps to protect is good but we really got to understand the stone we are using, if a supplier seals as part of the production process thats great but we just can not put anything on as it can make a mess. I have seen this a few times, thank you so much for your response and stay safe my friend. Johnyboy
@@GreentopLandscapes thanks for getting back to me. Have you ever sealed the stone before laying it? Or even sealed before pointing? Im a bit worried about this staining issue with the smooth sawn cut stone. Thanks again, Joe
Hi Johnnyboy. As a novice, I love your vids, thanks. I have some steps to pave. I was going to use 6:1 (recommended on your other vid if using Easy Joint to point, which I intend to). I was going to SBR my old concrete base and Easy Prime the slabs. Does that all sound ok? I will add a plasterciser to my mix but do I add SBR to that mix too please? Thanks very much. Richard
Great videos, very informative, thank you. Currently doing my own patio using indian sandstone but I cant seem to get my hands on the Azpects Easy Prime in East Lothian, Scotland. Do you have any suggestions for an alternative ?
Help!!! Can anyone please clearly tell me how to make the slurry for priming the back of porcelain slabs? I can't get the pre-made up stuff in Ireland. I can get raw SBR (and obviously cement and sand). What ingredients should I use and in what ratio for the PRIMER?
If you add the builders still you wouldn't need the slurry, the builders helps it adhere. slurry is for porcelain because it is non porous product, slurry is not for porous slabs like sandstone, waste of time and money using slurry on natural stone. it is a marketing gimmick. I have been laying sandstone for nearly 20 years now and my slabs dont come loose. If you do a 6 to 1 mix being 5 sharp 1 builders and one cement the concrete is as porous as the sandstone so you get an even drain and no frost heave. i appriciate there are more than one way to skin a cat, so you do you mate, but i recommend not using slurry on natural stone.
Thanks for the response, its appreciated and you are entitled to your opinion, the thing is the slabs these days are so thin and as sandstone absorbs moisture you can get delimitation through this so the slurry is just belt and braces and will ensure this does not happen. Years ago the slabs were so thick and heavy and just would not move, thanks for your response.
