  • The 100 Series LC is my favorite generation of Cruiser by far! The quality, ruggedness and refinement are the biggest differences between this and A Sequoia of the same vintage.

    Ashtrays were everywhere. Every airline seat had an ashtray. At the University of Paris we used to smoke in class. My father used to smoke as he made his rounds in the hospital going from room to room. We used to smoke in movie theaters.

    I bought a '99 LX470 four years ago. I was never a Toyota-Guy before then, but I love this 100-Series Land Cruiser. It's not a fuel miser, but the durability will outlast any other car I could have owned aside from another Land Cruiser. I'm willing to pay the "Toyota Tax" in fuel mileage if it means incredible long term durability.

    One thing to note about the 100 series: 1998 and 1999 actually had rear lockers. Toyota wanted to try something electronic with the "lockers", so it was gone by 2000. Also, don't know if it was mentioned, but 2003 gave you a new interior, an infotainment screen with navigation, and Bluetooth. Plus, the Land Cruisers had adjustable height control (AHC) as an option, it was standard on the LX and GX.

    Nice video and well informed on the 100 series. Myself and family currently have five of these 100 series and one 80 series...five LXs and one LC. My daily driver '99 LC just rolled over 458,000 miles. My son's '96 LX has 499,000 miles now. We have owned several more over the last 26 years and nothing but LC/LXs. These vehicles were specifically designed and built to traverse the world and back on cheap third world fuel. And they do not require an OCD personality regarding maintenance. From hundreds and hundreds of miles of experience, theses beasts are not expensive to own.

    • @richienell
      @richienell 2 года назад

      @@BernonCars The GX is a different animal than the LX. Put it this way, the GX wants to be a LX when it grows up. Although it is called a Land Cruiser Prado in other world markets, it is not a 100 series LC in reality or theory. It is just another market option for less money.

The previous owner of my 100 Series didn't take care of a lot of basic maintenance items, which came back to haunt me which is what prompted me to sell. If your LC is good 2 go then I would advise keeping it until it kicks the bucket. The 5th Gen just lacks character. It feels "normal" and you'll see them everywhere. I kinda imagined some rich arabs smoking in the back, but the kids smoking? xD heh that cracked me up. I have 1999 LC100 4,2 V6 TurboDIesel. What a beast. I have some offroading/overlanding mods on it - not nearly everything I want, but it's fun to go places even now.

    Good to hear a non-bias review where the Range Rover is somehow better ?? Got my self a 1998 4.2 diesel straight six, four speed auto. I agree with everything that you have stated in your presentation. I ran a Discovery 3 and they are a pile of over rated, pretentious nonsense incapable of work. I refuse to touch anything from the 'Green Oval Stable' as my experience is they cannot be serviced or repaired without complication and nonsense. Then one day a 4.2 Amazon J100 came to me for a major service, all the filters including the auto transmission filter and the timing belt. I took it for a test drive and it was one of the best vehicles that I had ever driven. Three weeks later, the 15 year old Discovery was sold and I now own a 23 year old Landcruiser. New vehicles do not come into my wallet and I do not live on credit. My vehicles have to work. Attend break downs carrying tools, pull heavy trailers, shift my tractors, on/off road and then pull the caravan and cruise on holiday with my family. No grey areas or green ovals anymore. A good review.
