- There are a lot of options when it comes to choosing the right off-road vehicle for you. I don't think there is any perfect vehicle for all situations, but I do think Land Cruiser is often the answer. Follow along this episode as we take a drive in the middle of nowhere California at a place called Alabama Hills

There’s a saying in Australia: if you want to go to the outback, take a land rover, if you want to come back from the outback, take a land cruiser. I got a preowned LC 2003, and I am fully in love with this car.
Hi, what does a diesel LC100 series get on average say on 33s? 15 liters per 100km, or?
Second saying in Australia, "where's your roo bar mate?"😅
I have a 2002 Land Cruiser that I bought new, told myself I would drive it 300k miles because of the price....tripped that and am still driving it, love it, will NEVER sell it
Same here! I’ve got a 2000 with 325K….not selling….don’t care how high gas goes in CA. Hands down the best SUV ever made.
I’m with y’all I have a 2000 land cruizer with 278k and rides like a champ
Some of us life in the rust belt!
Move then
I have the 80,100 and 200. Both the 80 and 100 have been cut in half .chassis lengthened and 80 series a double cab and 105 a king cab.been through Namib desert and Botswana swamps and you can't beat the 105. 2003 to 2007 have front back and centre diff. Goes where most fear to go. Both have pods on the back for camping. Have bought a F250 to see comparisons will be intresting.
*What's the beautiful! Super landscapes! The Land Cruiser 100 is what you need,a very reliable, comfortable and passable SUV.I had such a car, there were only positive emotions.Right choice Like!👍👍👍*
Thank you for being one of the few POV creators that doesn't sling their head around all the time!
I have both (80 series and 100 series). Completely different personalities and I love them both. I agree that the drive of the 100 series are more compliant than the 80 series. I would rather take the 100 series on a road trip than the 80 series. But, every time I drive the 80 series, it puts a lot of smile on my face. Driving the 80 series is an event rather than just a regular driving suv. It is never boring. My 80 series has 340K miles while my 100 series has 266K miles... They are both very reliable.
Here in Denmark we got the 4,2 1HD-FTE engine which is okay. The big difference is between the model years, from 1998-2005 it had the same engine (1HD-FTE) but coupled to a 4 speed auto (or a 5 speed manual), the interior was also different, not having the navigation screen, but with a rear differential locker. You could also choose between normal suspension and AHC, but the large majority chose AHC. In 2005 they updated it to have a 5 speed auto and rear locker with minor exterior changes, it also had a new interior with the bigger screen and light, orange "wood". From 2006 they updated the exterior again and removed the rear locker. I, myself, have a 2006 LC100 with 280.000 miles!
Yes, my 2006 Land Cruiser is roomy. I removed the third row seats, folded up the 2nd row seats, pulled down the tail gate, and I was able to fit a couch in it so I wouldnt' have to rent a Uhaul. 😁
Great video. Look forward to see more videos with your Land Cruiser.
Land Cruisers are awesome, they’re like personal tanks
Great vid mate 👌👍 that's why we love Toyota! Have a 99 Prado and love her guts 🥰 mind you a 105 with solid front axle would make me smile 😁
Your filmming skills are amazing 👍🏼👍🏼
Brother i am a huge fan of land cruiser. And i love your car. Your way of explaining. Thank you💟
My pleasure!
Bro more LC videos of the ol tank. You are the understatement of my love for old 100 series. Park the Porsche and grease up the family wagon. Miss it!!!
Yes I agree
I have a 2006 Vx Landcruiser 100 series 4.2 turbo diesel with 244.000 kms and I love it .The petrol version here is a lot cheaper to buy but more expensive to run I’m from Perth Western Australia 🇦🇺
What a beautiful truck!
i have a 1977 landcruiser had it over 20 yrs love it,here in the UK petrol prices are lot more expensive than USA ,when i bought it was 18 months old with 18 thousand miles the first thing i did was to put it on LPG best thing i did, save you loads of money
Agree the 100 series Land Cruisers are very capable for overlanding. We are traveling cross country and camping versus looking for the most difficult terrain to rock climb.
Good video, enjoy the info you provide. Makes me want to change out my 2002 engine to a newer, more powerful, regular grade gasoline engine.
The 4.7 can run fine on regular. It was built to be used in places where they don’t even know what premium fuel is. Granted you won’t get as much power but it won’t cause any damage.

These trucks are awesome!
Hey come on now, the 80 series is an icon of off-road adventure! 😂 HDJ81 owner here with the 1-HDT turbo diesel. I love it. Someday an investment in a 100 series would be really nice to compliment the 80 series. Great video, great commentary.
Timing belt is every 90k, cool video thanks. I’m trying to decide between the 80 and 100 series currently.
Geat piece and all true. One comment - I've got a 2000 and for anyone that does more highway driving, the mph is actually closer to 15/16. It's not 25/30, but it's not as miserable as most people assume - I actually do better than most of my buddies who have Denalis and Silverados.
Nice review 👍
Thanks! 👍
Great video as always
Appreciate that!
98-99 LX had not only the center diff lock but also a locking rear. In 2000 they had the center diff and A-trac.....
As a Jeep owner.. I'm upset... Lol, great video. Thanks for the thoughts.
It is quite difficult to find the right balance. Once I started with my LC I geared it for the the job it never did in the reality :) So from now I am sacrificing some off road capability to get more on road...
Hey mate. Great vid and beautiful scenery! Are you still running the AHC or did you convert it?
this is masterpiece 👏🏻
Wow after a long wait ☺️
The Alabama Hills are a nice side trip to check out.
Totally agree about the Jeep... I’ve had two and they both wobbled and drove horribly on the pavement. Great video.
@MysteriousOklahoma you can’t go wrong with a 200 series. I wouldn’t mind having one myself... maybe after I’m done with my 100.
Nice video and better vehicle in said video. My fam currently drives five LC/LXs and two more spare LXs. Best rolling machines on Earth. I see you ditched the 18" for 16s. BTW, ATRAC is actually Active Trac rather than Advanced Trac. ATRAC began in year 2000.
The unicorn 2007 Land Cruiser. Beautiful truck. Do you still own it today as well?
i actually found your channel on a video that you shown this car when it reached 200k miles i believe and i was shook about the smoothness of the engine running ,its the appocalypse car and i agree that it diserves that tittle . Ive never been in that situation but i believe getting stranded on the middle of nowhere isnt a funny situation , specially if youre by your own .Greetings from Portugal
Beautiful landscape. I am struggling between 2007 vs 2012 vs 2016
I have a 2004 with 300k miles, incredible vehicles because it drives like it’s got 50k miles.
320k Rides like a cloud.
I have an 02 lx470 and it does actually have a-trac
I have also an 07er LC100 Diesel :)
With 360k km on the Clock 😎
I really want a 100 series. But the price of these things is just crazy now. You're talking 30 grand for one with around 100k miles
What tires and suspension u got? Lift?
My backyard! Welcome to the Eastern Sierra Nevada.
Hey! What size tires and wheels are u running? Thanks!
Great looking truck. I definitely want to drive one. For now we have the 2005 X5, but it’s not comfortable or luxurious by any means.
Wow, amazing to hear it's still going. A lot of those are off the road these days
@@SeaJayBelfastwhat are you talking about, first gen bmw x5s are everywhere
Great video, sadly fuel prices in Australia make owning a petrol version ridiculously expensive to run. And our diesel versions are too expensive to purchase.
On a positive note I live in AUS,, own a v8 100 series and wacked a 3" exhaust on her and it now sounds KILLA!!!!!
have a 2002 that I've had for 10 years, over 340k miles so far. Looking forward to another 10 years.
Does it have A-Track?
I have an 03 with 35 inch tires, best mpg I get in town is 9.9 mpg and around 11 mpg on the highway. I re-geared it to 4.88 and I'm now getting 14.8 mpg in town. Gears are amazing. Nice vid btw.
Thanks for sharing!
Did u have to do any cutting to fit the 35s?
@drvrdan01 yes I had to.
Does the 2002 model year have A -Track?
cool vid madude
AHC?
What tires you running
Hey, thx for the review. What would be the maximum size of the mattress if 2nd and 3rd row seats were completely removed? Thanks!
75"
Toyota land cruiser are just reliable... period
just make sure the brakes don't fail on you without warning.
Making a video about how great and capable a 100 series is as he drives by Ford Escapes and 5th wheel campers.
And when the time does come to starr replacing things, it’s not as easy as other “less reliable” vehicles. Last summer I helped a friend with a Lexus 100 series replace his rear wheel bearings. It’s a 2 hour job on the driveway with my vehicles. Took us an entire weekend and a special tool for the press to get his done.
Next up is his cracked exhaust manifold. Can’t wait for those busted knuckles and new swear words!
This. Working on a 100 series is a pain in the ass for most jobs. Exhaust manifolds, steering rack, bushings, etc. Also, unless its a Cruiser specialist or yourself working on the 100, you can bet that the job wasn't done right. Cant begin to say how many times I've seen a 100 come in with janky work not done right, especially in the front hubs. Also, just about everything needs to get rehauled in a 100 series by 175-200k miles, but thats pretty standard for any car with that mileage. People hype up the 100 series thinking they're reliable and maintenance free but they require just as much, if not more maintenance than a LR3/RangeRover.
Man I wanted a 100 series but my wife wanted a newer car with some bells and whistles and she only agreed to was a 4runner. One day though.
Or since it’s YOUR money… you buy what you want. Or… get a better wife!
I have a 2002 which I got in oct for 10000 with 258,000 miles and it looks and drives like new. I have taken it on the white rim trail and off-road everywhere and climbed many mountains STOCK. Best investment I ever made and I think if she can have the 4Runner and you sell your daily you could easily get into one. Only thing you can’t add to an old car is active cruise control and blind spot shit which is for…
Bells and whistles are bullshit. I recently 'downgraded' my car from a 2018 fancy brand to a 2011 Honda with relatively little tech. Absolutely loving the simplicity and relative lack of electronic crap.
Is the car for sale?
2011 lx570 just put Toyo at3’s on feels a lot better
Question. You bought a 2007 which is the most expensive 100 series. For about the same money you could have a 200 series.. maybe the first year , maybe with 150 k miles.. but please tell me why.
I have been shopping for a 2008 to 2010 toyota sequoia.. and started looking at gx470 and land cruisers. My budget is 22 k.. help me decide whats the better buy.
I am big big so the larger wider the seats and the smaller the console the better. I will be using as a family car on roads with occasional overlanding, but tame stuff.
200 series are great for that. I bought this well before the prices of Land Cruisers went up, so I didn't pay anywear near 22k. A Sequoia would probably be fine anyway for light offroading.
I have 2007
262000 miles and working perfect❤️✌🏽😂
Make video on 80 series too
You should’ve done Toyota Land Cruiser 60 series or 80s that’s just my opinion.
My 2001 LX 470 has a locking diff and A-Trac
can you tell me if it is possible to put it in rwd
if its automatic v8 ?
Toyota Land Cruisers, Land Cruiser Prados and their Lexus cousins are the best 4x4s money can buy. I have a Lexus GX460 and it's been amazing. Please consider the investment you make. It's costly. But, robust, parts are readily available and the know how to fix it is everywhere.
That ol` girl will still be alive when most of us are dead, and it`s already 20 years old. It`s just about run in!
Man.... if only the 105 had been available in the US with a 4wd/2wd drivetrain and the diesel.
Sweet home albammaaaaa
Thoughts vs an older 200 series? The prices are getting very close these days.
Funny you should ask: ruclips.net/video/-op7j9m__D0/видео.html
@@EatSleepDrive haha, thanks. Apparently I watch way too much RUclips, as I watched it 7 months ago. I remembered you did a video but had forgotten the comparisons.
my 2004 LC100 ran 230k miles already
If you don’t like solid front axles just say so
How much did u pay for urs?
What tires you running? I just bought an 06 with 108k original miles and in perfect condition. It came with a nice set of Michelin Defenders that are nice, but when those go I want to put more of an off road tire on
How is the tire noise now bro?
Still really reasonable!
She's no F-150 FX-4 regular cab shorty!
@Guy martin TGFT! Ford did not match Toyota's "Swiss cheese" frame steel, they didn't match the air intakes in the wheel well that "dust the engine" to death, by injesting dust from their own wheels. They also don't match Toyota's fuel consumption...
Your vehicle is fantastic. 👍. I have a 2010 landcruiser pickup, it’s a ⛽️ gas hog.
What is it about the 2007 land cruiser ? It looks so good
Mmmmmm land cruiser
Wait you moved from Ohio to California! ARE YOU CRAZY!
Try a 200
Sucks they discontinued these in America
Tell me about it..
80 series man
Unfortunately the 100 series looks very bland. It has no character like the 80 series. But a lot of advantages to the 100 series definitely.
80 Series under powered. But agree. It looks great
Jeeps are straight up trash. My 100 hundred series Land Cruiser walks the dog all those all day
25 year service live IN THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES. We're not talking about 25 years of mall crawling. What separates Land Cruisers from other vehicles? BUILD QUALITY. Are you kidding me? The United Nations uses these things exclusively. ATRAC not as good as a locked diff? Toyota would not have replaced the locking diffs over two decades ago with ATRAC if it were not as good. These are Land Cruisers. ATRAC is fantastic and works a charm.
as a Land cruiser owner, this 25 year thing is pure hype. Theres no specifications internally in Toyota that say 25 year service for Land Cruiser. It was just some engineer talking out of his ass. All cars are 25+ years serviceable if you throw enough replacement parts at it.
@@bcatz454 My mother bought a 1983 Mercedes 240D new and used it as her daily driver for 29 years. Never touched the engine or transmission. Original clutch. Had well over 300k. Talk about service life.
they switched to ATRAC because most people can't drive worth shit and the other half never go off the pavement.
Dude! I agree 100%. Jeeps are garbage...
you dont have to put something down to bring something up. be better.
класс чо
GX470 is a more capable 4x4. The front end torsion bar setup on the 100 series is hilariously bad. GX470 beats the 100 series in every usage except if you really need to overload the 100 for a continental trip.
Not as big
@@georgemiloslavski7086 lol triggered somebody with a 100 series. Nah Rubicon noisy and uncomfortable.
Great video. But why the hell would you move to California? What a shit hole.
doesn't look like a shit hole to me
Do us a favor and stay out of California then... If this state is a shithole, I can't imagine what state you live in.
Jeep is overpriced junk.
