Finally, an intelligent individual. Thank you, it's very refreshing, you did an excellent job of explaining how to swap a segment and the hidden costs related to licensing both OS.
I appreciate the videos and the walk through. While it's taking me time I'm able to build horsepower on a budget with both my work truck and project vehicles. Keep it up.
Take it from a guy from an era where straight axials and 2-660s on a tunnel ram poking out the hood (and it wouldn't back out of a driveway) was the sh!t, your walk-throughs on LS swap running & tuning are GREATLY appreciated
Thank you. Good point about the OS working for what you are doing before you license! Perfect video for me as I've had 4 beers and am doing some learning/research at the end of the day! 😁👍
The OS for a 2002 Tahoe with L59, is Flex Fuel ready, and drive by cable. It's what I run on the P01 in my LS2 swapped 2000 Silverado. Just be warned... 512v 1mb is NOT THE SPEED of the ECU. It memory, and the P01 has less, meaning if you run an OS with certain features, like flex fuel, you will loose other options. Like being able to update to a 2bar OS. Or you loose some of the finer tuning options. The P59s, from my experience, tend to keep these features. So IMO, it's better to add an IAC driver, or find a P59 with and flash the appropriate OS for your application, and tune from there. Or, convert your car/truck to DBW, and forget the IAC chip all together. (I know that's not always possible).. like swapping to a 72chevelle. It can be done, but that DBW pedal setup isn't available stock, so it costs more
Thanks for the video, it gave me at least some clarity. The question(s) I have.. my PCM is a p59 which has DBW&DBC capabilities. I'd like to use DBC for my swap. Also, the tune that's on the pcm is for a manual transmission, I think it's for an 04 manual, silverado. I plan to use a T56 transmission for my swap. 1) Should I bother messing with the transmission section at all? (ie. segment swap a 2004 GTO manual trans to my tune file? not sure if torque management etc. might be different) 2) Since I want to run DBC and I think the tune is DBW... do I just have to disable DTC's related to DBW sensors?
Thanks you this helped I’m trying to do E85 on my 06 GMC Sierra and I’ve been looking to do a segment swap only one I found s from an Avalanche so far.
Not if it costs money, there's nothing I can't do with thing's I have right here and a short amount of time that would lead me to spend anything over double digits on anything from anyone else.
Is this a place where I can ask what pins are available for extra sensors? Want to run a Fuel pressure sensor and a wideband, and only know of the egr pin being empty, A/C is being used, so don't want to use that. P59
Nice videos J.R! ive been using them for my LS swap. Buying a CNCH harness but my PCM is out of a 06 van. Its blue/green but dbc, do i buy the red/blue dbc harness and change the red endcaps from red to green? Or would I have to use HP tuners to os swap my p59 to a pcm/tune that uses red/blue?
You can do all of that lol. If I were you, I'd use the van harness, if it's not cut. If you can't, I'd buy the DBW harness and add the IAC and TPS plugs. You can also convert a red/green harness with some repining if you decide to go that way. I'll be covering all of this in the coming weeks as I work through the D100 stuff.
Hey! I enjoy your vids, i live a half mile from pick n pull here in tumwater. Ive been playing with these ls truck motors for two years, bought 16 engines so far. Started out butchering harnesses to remove them. Now i pull everything. They are only $352! I paid a guy $100 each to clear vats on 11 pcms.i dont know anything about doing that but watching your vids i think theres alot im missing or could be collecting myself. Like os systems? Collect them for later? Im 52 and dont do computers much but these motors may break me out. Ive only put one in my 55 chevy, but all my cars are getting one. Just got a 4.8 4l80 combo for my 40 chev, i dont really know what your talking about when your talking os or computer terms, ill keep watching to try and learn.
Depending on the year, engine, options, GM used different operating systems on the PCM that enabled different things. To most people, that just doesn't matter, but when you want to do things like add Flex Fuel to a vehicle that didn't have it, or use a manual or non-electronic trans, it starts to matter.
Greetings, I am looking for a PCM for a swap ls, I do not live in the USA, I am from Venezuela, these PCMs that you mention in this video are very expensive in my country, 300, 400 USD, and looking on ebay I found some fairly cheap PCMs that They are physically the same as the p01 and p59 but they are from, for example, Malibu 01-03, this one has a blue connector and a clear one, another 2003-2005 Chevrolet Impala another 03-04-05 CHEVROLET VENTURE/MONTANA, I would like to know if these pcms have a good programming could work in my ls swap project, I would like DBC and a th 400, thanks in advance
If you're going to use a tool like PCM Hammer, then yes, you can easily load the V8 software onto PCMs sourced from other applications, like an S10. You do have to match the PCM to the harness, I'd stick with 99-02 PCMs, of the 411 type to make it easy on yourself
I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado 6.0 Computer and I cannot find a OS for 2bar and flex fuel. If I license the 2002 Tahoe os can I simply download the Tahoe os on to my Silverado
Cause when I bought my other 5.3 the fellow said it was 04 but I looked on lt 1 page I couldn't find an o4 red and blue harness and ecm only 02 so I figured the fellow didnt know what year the motor and harness was but he swore it was 04 so I guess like you said vehicle doesn't matter or year
@@TheDrivewayEngineer What I mean is: are you personally able to program/tune any PCM you have or get because you have several different engines licensed in HP Tuners? I assume you own the license to tune a PCM to LQ4 specs because you did so with Daryl? And maybe a 5.3 because you tuned for your nephew? Just trying to understand how HP Tuner works. Or is it like a shopping cart you fill up with tuning and segment swaps that you pay for when you check out? I enjoyed the video. Trying to decide if I should purchase HP tuners and have my friend show me the particulars. I have an LQ4, SS2 cam, 2 Kemso pumps, VS 78/76, barnes cross over and log manifold, soon to have Jansen torque converter and some sort of injectors. Following your recipe. Thanks for your time. @@noahmc1547 HP Tuners locks to the PCM. So once you license your PCM, you have a license for it forever, unless you change OS, then you'd have to license the new tune as well. So I can tune Trenton's truck forever, but not any random 5.3

Avalanche, Tahoe, Yukon all have flex OS available

what software for 0412 has flex? i cant find one

Yep

Are you able to tune/segment swap multiple PCMs for multiple engines because you have multiple license’s?
I'm not following, but each PCM takes at least two license credits in HP Tuners
