    I just wish I could try them on before buying and see how the liners differ from each other. Dropping that kind of money on something that I could end up liking less than the stock liner is a risk I haven't wanted to take yet.

      I agree. You should try and chat with a skate shop, see if they have a return policy. I know it’ll cost a bit more, but it’s worth talking with an expert before ordering.

      In my opinion trying on skates or liners in a store is almost pointless. For me, every skate that felt like crap with all kinds of pressure points when I first tried them on ended up being perfect, and every skate that felt good when I first tried them on ended up being too big. You have to break things in, get used to the skate etc.
      So far I bought 3 pairs of skates that felt good in the shop, but then ended up being too big, or ended up completely killing my feet. Your mileage may vary, just my experience. I have weird feet for sure.

      I don't have a single shop within a few states of me, just got my USD aeons today and they feel great but the skinny liner that came with them leaves a lot of unwanted space for my calves. Going to try a fatboy now but that's another $100 and if that doesn't work, I'm $400 out for something that I really want to get into, but won't work for me.

    Hey! So digging up an older one here but if you get to this comment I have a request/questions. Would you be able to dig a little more into the liners and maybe get/try a few different ones, perhaps make a new Gear Talk about liners again? Liners can get quite expensive so it's a hard thing to experiment with. Can you talk more about the Intuition liners and how you liked them, or maybe I'm missing a video that you have already uploaded?
    Here are a few of my comments so far:
    After over a decade of not skating I came back and skated my old skates (Rollerblade TRS Detail, and Razor Genesys 8) and the original liners were actually just fine, chewed up but felt ok other than footbeds being crappy.
    I then purchased a USD Carbon Free Montre Livingston skate which came with the MyFit liner (not sure really what model that is, and if it is a skinny boy or something else, but they are the thinner ones) and that's where my problems started. Not sure if people have similar issues, or if I'm just getting old(er) (mid 30s)...
    I really liked the MyFit liner to begin with (I heat molded it, properly, watched videos and read instructions) but when doing longer skate sessions I noticed they started hurting my ankle bones.
    I then switches to some Valo V13 liners I had laying around, and these seem to be better for my ankles, they don't hurt as much and not as quickly. I think the MyFit liner molded to the contour of my ankles is actually a bit too stiff and doesn't allow for that little bit of the ankle travel... I think it would require a much stiffer boot/cuff than the Carbon Free skate...?
    In comparison the MyFit liners hurt my bones about 1hr into the session, the Valo V13 don't start hurting till about 2hrs into the session.
    I know this must have something to do with the skate itself and how the cuffs flex and move which allows my ankles to most likely move back and forth causing some rubbing and eventually starting to hurt. Even though these skates have the ankle strap which the other 2 skates I mentioned don't it seems like something is not quite working there too well? Additionally I changed the top velcro strap to plastic buckle to prevent some of the flex.
    I also found that the type of sock makes a difference, I skated normal socks, I skated normal low cut socks (those are the worst), I skated Chaya Derby Knicerbockers (those were much better), and finally Drymax Hockey Socks (these are the best IMO for material, and really make a huuuge difference to keep your feet less sweaty).
    I wonder, if there is some techy geeky way to figure out what liners work better for what skates or what cuff design, and what to do to prevent the ankle pain to some extent (or really any other issues people may experience).
    I'm curious about Reign Liners, Intuition Liners, and MyFit (which seem to have a whole bunch of different models), and there are of course lots of other skate specific ones and so forth - so yet another area of aggressive skates that has sooo many different options and they don't all work the same! I don't know if you have the option to explore something like this but is seems like a huge topic!?

      Thanks for the message! Liners are a black art, I don’t know how anyone can figure it out aside from trying them all on. I don’t have any secrets, just get lucky from time to time. Maybe calling a shop for advice?

    This video reminds me how lucky I am that I've never had an issue with liners! I know fit and liners and comfort are big issues for a lot of people and can certainly be costly.
    Hopefully one day in the future we can have the air fit system/lining that powerslide (I think) have put out on one of their new boots. That way no one should really have an issue. Slip your foot on, pump it up and your foot should be surrounded perfectly!

    I bought the FAT BOY PS for a malleolus contact problem, but they were of no use, modeling the liner's contact point when it is hot, what is needed for my experience, is that the boot is comfortable or moldable, then each liner will probably be more or less fine.

    So my feet are normally size 40 (25cm) and I have the 39-40 Aeon 60 (Lomax 2016) boot. My toes touch the front with the stock skinny boy liners so I took the risk of getting 2nd skin liners online. I really like the insoles and my toes don't touch the end any more (just) but the boots are really flat at the front and still press down on my feet pretty bad. Toes go numb skating more than an hour. I can take the insoles out but then there's no padding at all underfoot. I'm trying the tennis ball trick and crossing fingers. I hadn't intended to buy them as a downsize but there you go! They're very snug and definitely offer great support and control.

    • @BacktoBlading
      @BacktoBlading  6 лет назад

      Yikes! I haven’t had any tight toe issues with the Aeon but I don’t doubt it. Will be tough to find a thinner liner than the second skin.

    • @ek-nz
      @ek-nz 6 лет назад

      People mod them a bit. skateandliberty.tumblr.com/post/150925741068/aeon-mod-the-narrow-boot-issue But I think making a destructive edit to the boot is a bit extreme so I'm just stuffing tennis balls in the boot toe and putting them in the sun. Hopefully between that and wearing in the liner and insole it'll come right. This is the tough thing about not having a skate shop to try things on!

    • @BacktoBlading
      @BacktoBlading  9 месяцев назад +1

      Sure! Really depends on the skate and liners you’re using. Easiest way for any setup is to use a baseball or a wooden dowel or similar and press it into the hot spot. Leave it pressed overnight.
      If that doesn’t help, it might be the skates just don’t work with your feet.

      @@BacktoBlading My skates are powerslide next 110, I've used them for a year and didn't have that problem, I started having this problem this winter, it feels like my pointy ankle bone on the inside edge of my left foot started being pressed against the plastic (feels that way), hence, I tried wearing more socks, didn't fix it, less socks, didn't fix it, so today I tried washing the liners for the first time since I got them with water and soap and now they're being dried on my window.
