Ever since i bought the 11 inch m2 ipad pro and the keyboard i have not needed my macbook. To me this is the perfect computer. Portable, good performance and does everything i need. On the topic of getting macOS on an ipad, if i would personally need macOS i would use a mac. To be honest i could even get by with the cheapest basic ipad with the new keyboard if i would not need the ability to for a larger display from time to time.
I have the 11 inch iPad Pro too. Are you having fomo now that the m4 iPad Pro is out?

In my case, 12,9 is better because I make documents. That is why the 13 flirt with me but not enough to make the deal.

I dont get these people who are always saying „ohh it’s just an ipad, it can’t replace my laptop“… Have you ever thought that’s by Design?
I ordered an iPad and i expect (and want) an iPad! 😆
if you want "command + n" to open a new window, go to setting, safari, (with keyboard connected), scroll to tab, when using new keyboard shortcut, choose open window, the default is open tab
Or hit the globe key + the down arrow which is the shortcut for opening another instance of an application once the developer has enabled it. Or hit the three dots at the top of the app which will also bring up the option to open another instance of the app. I swear all these reviewers make no effort in genuinely learning to use the thing they are reviewing. Half the complaints are out of ignorance. It’s not MacOS, it’s not trying to be, learn the shortcuts learn ways of navigating the OS. It’s different but fun and like any other OS once you get muscle memory it’s rather efficient. Yes there are still limitations, no that’s not all on apple that’s also on developers and how they may see the platform or the amount of resources they nay have to put into the app on this platform. But it has come a long way but don’t be upset that you bought a cherry but you wanted it to taste like a grape.
@@38odin You have to touch the + icon and it will open the app in a new stage. I basicaly never use this function for opening a new instance because of that. Just adding it by opeing the app directly from the dock/app lib or like you said using the add window function is quicker for me.
Or just change/add the shortcut 😁
For Safari, new window is command-option-N.
You can also hold down the cmd button down in an app to see all shortcuts
I’ll still choose a iPad over a Mac. When I boot up my Mac it just feels weird. I’m ok with apps over webpages. I just need Apple to make a Time Machine app to back up to an external hard drive

I don't want my iPad to "replace" my Macbook, but the fact that I can use a build of final cut pro on it to do reasonable quick-edits by airdropping videos from my phone is great, but i'd want the 500GB-1TB model and thats as much as a macbook 😭😭😭

That's great and all, but the file management system of the iPad is so atrocious that trying to use it for what you described is half the battle
@@adequatequality THIS! fix file management including seamless find, and transfer to various storage (pc, laptop, cloud, removable, etc) would be huge!
I’ve been airdropping things between my Mac and iPad. Honestly the file system isn’t anywhere as bad as people make it out to be. I can find things fine. Go to browse “my iPad” and all your files are inside a folder named after your app or where ever you chose to save your files. Also just setting my iPad next to my Mac I can just drag stuff across screens. I think people are stuck remembering how it used to be, or just not adapting to a touch only OS. It’s a drawing, animating and sculpting device for me, so I don’t use a keyboard. If you need a keyboard and mouse as your primary needs to navigate… just use a Mac. If you prefer a touch only device that on some occasions can type, go iPad.
I do get the M4 chip is really powerful and not practical now, but It's good to know 3-4 yrs later , it'll still be a really powerful device that can handle anything smoothly, making it futerproof. The M1 Ipad pro is much powerful than the tab S9 ultra and handle games and other stuff better, it's better in the long run if you do ask me, as I don't believe in upgrading every single yr.

After watching several professional users who don’t use the keyboard for their work, I think it’s the keyboard that has confused so many RUclipsrs into believing the iPad should be a laptop replacement. The keyboard is useful but not necessary. The Pencil is necessary, so is the bright color accurate display, touch is necessary, even lidar and gyroscopes are. For many professionals who work on the iPad MacOS and even the keyboard are afterthoughts. Those are the people Apple is designing for. To all the others, Apple gave the Mac lineup

Two of your three quirks are app-related, not iPadOS related. On top of that, you missed the key combo in Safari to open a new window. Hold down the command key to see the relevant shortcuts for every app, which is command-option-N to open a new window in Safari.
Swings and roundabouts with the colour. The white one does shows marks and dirt incredibly easily.
Nice review! Enjoyed it for the most part. That said, for the life of me, i just cannot understand how i keep hearing content creators REPEATEDLY! Say they cannot edit videos for youtube on their ipad!? When i run a youtube channel with over 900 videos (4k 60fps HDR with luts )and 100k+ subs, including art, animation and graphics design, plus the basic stuff like internet, emails, notes and watching stuff too all from an ipad! The 2020 version no less!
It’s literally my only computer, save for my phone if that counts. It’s a tiny investment compared to what it can accomplish for you in the right hands. Except if youre coding or an industry level 3D animator (and this is more of a software limitation not hardware) the ipad can MORE THAN replace the mac, and do more than the mac ever could.
I can already imagine the iPad and Magic Keyboard in titanium instead of aluminum and how much lighter they would be

iPad can never replace a macbook but the person has to decide according to their work which best suits them…I personally have replaced my macbook with an iPad Air because I don’t have any high intensive work and I am loving my iPad
I get the price of the iPad but in the USA the carriers offer installment payment plans that are much easier than paying all at once.
Fair! But still, you could argue if you opt for an instalment plan it might be a sign you shouldn’t buy it. I find those things can put people in tough financial situations!
@@TerrenRule I’ve never outright paid for any of my iPhones! I thought most people paid monthly with their carriers.. I’m also getting my cellular M4 with AT&T for less than $40 a month plus can pay off whenever I want.. It’s not that serious 🤷🏽♂️
1000% I have been trying to use an M4 iPad Pro for about a month and I just bought a Macbook Air m3 because it can be just so annoying most of the time. I also prefer my iPad Mini to the 11" iPad Pro m4. Simple things like watching RUclips is weird. The dot/cursor doesn't always clock on things. I can do everything I do on a Macbook Air M3 for almost $400 less.

I use my iPad Pro 13 inch with Magic Keyboard 99% of the time. But I can’t load my cd music onto the tablet without using the computer, no matter what attachments you use. If they fixed that, I could use it for everything
I honestly thought about it for days, but decided to upgrade my M1 Macbook Air, I just couldn't see the need to upgrade my 10th Gen iPad, especially because it has 256GB storage, and I don't use it that often. Macbook Air I use everyday, and even with an apartment full of devices, I also realized it's my only laptop 😂.

I purchased the iPad 13in today magic keyboard. I am a gen x guy and been a tech head for a long time. In the beginning you had to have a desktop to do major work because laptop processors were less powerful. Now apple at least use the same kind of chips. Now all the base devices have 8gigs m processors and same storage it is strange that the mobile versions of apps and still watered down versions of desktops. My MacBook Air 15 I got for $1000 on sale. Even if you buy it at retail the iPad cost 1299 same as the air plus 349+129. You are at 1700 and can’t do as much
windows on ARM has a better future than iPad OS.........apple will never make iPad OS as capable as MacOS.......it will cannabelise their sales..........it will always be an inbetween OS unfortunately....
Eventually Apple will launch a unified OS so all dev is enabled across all their devices. Until then they'll squeeze money out of people with their hardware advantage. IE iPadOS is a "Dinosaur OS" as you say until it goes extinct when Apple move on as other hardware catches up eg Qualcomm.
IPads weren't always this expensive, inflation does have a role to play and well, they are a business, that's why people do have the opportunity to get other products like MacBooks.

Facts:
- Apple wants you to buy an iPad and MacBook, they want you to love the iPad but really need a MacBook to get things done
- iPadOS 18 will bring a little more desktop feeling but still will be limited enough so that you need…a MacBook
- you could use your old accessories but they wanted people to buy new stuff (€€€)
- Apple is thinking only in making money, period. In things that keeps you happy but not too happy so that you wouldn’t buy another product from them. Then suddenly you spent many thousands of euros and you’re locked in and you simply still need more than one device.
That’s why I think with Qualcomm X Elite and plus devices and on devices like the surface line, you’ll get ALL in one place. Yes, the apps and touchscreen experience is far and will be far from ideal when compared to Android or iPadOS, but many will prefer like that. Or they’ll buy the cheapest iPad or Samsung Tab S9 and then a ARM surface.
Competition will finally force Apple's hand from in the meantime ripping people off with a deliberately limited iPadOS for using for more uses by more people. It will be interesting to see when Apple launches it's own 2-in-1 as a consequence after years of BS'ing that that's not on the cards...
I use my iPad Pro m1 more than old ,book air .. I can’t wait to get iPad Pro m4 instead of MacBook Pro . Yeah iPad Pro is expensive but it has laptop chip m4 and it’s almost 3000 maxed out with keyboard but maxed out MacBook Pro 16 can be almost 8000to 9000 ,& even more with accessories.. and u can buy additional sd card adapter for iPad Pro and still be cheaper than MacBook Pro16 . Also iPad Pro with cellular and m1 is so damn fast and now cellular and ,m4 it has to be 10 times insanely more fast than my already super fast m1 iPad Pro with cellular 12.9 ..

Can iPad replace a laptop?
For some people iPad works as primary device for work - very few though.
Objectively iPad doesn’t replace a laptop as it’s not capable of performing same tasks a laptop can. iOS is very limiting.
For me personally iPad doesn’t replace my MacBook. I remote into Windows machines and still it’s not capable enough for me to get rid of my laptop. Excel, entire office suite which I use and need to use locally on my machine is limited compared to full MacOs version. There is also a problem of not being able to install a desktop app and iOS counterpart needs to exist - very glaring issue if you need to use various corporate VPN apps.
They could have given atleast few useful softwares for free..(final cut pro) ,then this cost make sense

Honestly in ipads these powerful Hardware upgrades makes NO SENSE to me until we have PRO softwares in ipad pros .

Ipad's can never replace a macbook pro . For PRO works - video editing, photo editing , audio productions - i will always prefer Macbook pro makes works very easy.

In my opinion since the Magic Keyboard come out. An I pad can be just as much as a computer. Not everyone can afford a MacBook I personally just like i padOS7 better then Mac OS7 and also i feel like people are just nitpicking , but everything comes with pros and cons, it really just depends on preference

I really liked the style of this video! I picked up an M4 iPad Pro and this comment is written using the Apple Pencil scribble feature. I couldn't agree more that iPadOS has these funny quirks. I was hoping you were gong to go into even more detail on that topic so I could see if others were experiencing the same things.
I also really agree that some iPad apps are great, and some are terrible. The RUclips app is so bad I have to use it in Safari instead. For example, sometimes moving the time slider to a new location doesn't actually let me play the video from there, and instead it just keeps going from where it left off. The linked in app is really bad, I think it's just an electron app - sometimes the content gets squished so small it's unusable and the app needs to be killed. The google sheets app doesn't let you hold the shift key to click and select multiple cells: you have to either hold shift and use the arrow keys, or drag the little handles around the selected cell to expand the selection.

We agree that it is a hardware powerhouse but sadly, it is also a software $hithouse. 💩 It's thinness is there purely as a smokescreen to take peoples' attention away from how $hit the software is. This tablet, which costs over £1000, is literally just as useful as my £300 iPhone SE.
