Thanks for your comparison review. I purchased the Apple Magic Keyboard (Black) for my 13” iPad Pro M4 but wasn’t satisfied with it, as it was too top heavy and unstable if I was using the iPad touch screen. It also offers no protection of the iPad outside of the case. Plus you cannot use it in portrait mode. Fingerprints on the Apple black case were also an issue. I returned the Apple Magic Keyboard and replaced it with the ESR 360 case, which is much more suitable for my use, plus substantially cheaper to purchase. The ESR is heavier, but much more stable, especially if wanting to use in laptop mode. Cheers.

The main down part for the ESR keyboard is no haptic feedback trackpad. Otherwise the portrait mode with extra protection can make it arguably more useful than the Magic Keyboard.

This is a very good point. It does move so it has feedback to click. No question to me that it’s more useful than the Magic Keyboard in most ways. But I think the overall weight and size is why some people would lean toward Apple.

Very good comparison! I went with the Apple Magic Keyboard. I've used the older Logitech version on my previous M1 iPad Pro. I did like it but the angle flap made it impossible to use with any comfort on the lap. Furthermore the on desk profile with extended flap made it quite a space hog. I am glad that Logitech seems to have fixed the mounting frame that used to stretch out after a few installs in the frame (I like to use other folios for my iPad).

    • @adamphynes7342
      @adamphynes7342 5 месяцев назад +1

I haven’t tried to take off the case on my Logitech keyboard, but I can imagine the frame stretching. I had that issue in a few spots with the first case I had. I returned it with my Best Buy warranty, as the keyboard stopped working. Haven’t had any issues with my replacement. I do slightly worry about the rubber stretching, so I’m careful when handling the case. It’s not too big a deal, as with my Magic Keyboard, I handle that with care too. There’s no protection around the iPad itself.

I’ve had the Logitech for my 12.9” m1 iPad for years, and it’s great. I got the Magic Keyboard for my new m4 iPad, mostly because I wanted a change. I do agree with the video that only being able to use the Logitech on a table is a downside. I like the fabric-like feel of the case, however if you want the most upscale look, the magic keyboard is best. One thing I love about the Logitech is that it has a case for the iPad. When you detach it from the keyboard, it’s protected. If you want to just use it on your bed to watch a video, or just to take it around your home for example, it’s protected. You have to be very careful when taking the iPad off the Magic Keyboard, as there’s no protection whatsoever. Combined with the iPad being so thin, it can be a concern for those a little rough in their electronics.

    Great video and comparison.
I originally went for the Logitech Combo keyboard, but then saw the ESR video and decided to order one from Amazon. Although it does add a bit of heft and thickness, I do love the viewing angle it provides and the ability to change it from horizontal to vertical viewing. The downside (for me) is that I have the 11 inch version and it doesn’t come with a dedicated function key row. I also like that you can use the keyboard when it's not attached to the iPad itself - another plus AND when it’s detached from the keyboard, there is protection for the iPad in the form of the case (the Logitech offers that as well). The other bonus for me is that fact that it has a magnetic cover to keep the stylus in place. I have the ESR and Apple pencil and while the Apple pencil has a better magnet, it is still prone to falling off the iPad, so that flap will come in handy.
I didn’t even think once about considering the Apple magic keyboard b/c, well it’s just not that magical to me. Sure, it’s beautiful and sleek, but I like the fact that both the ESR and Logitech offer some protection of the iPad when it’s not attached to the keyboard. And there is not $200 of quality difference in the Apple keyboard.

I had the Logitech combo touch case on my 11in ipad and it worked well the main issue was not great using on lap but did like the built in stand if detached from the keyboard. Great video. I've tried all 3, and went with Logitech because it's a thin keyboard that is fun to use, feels like a real laptop (absent the kick stand), has pass through charging, and most importantly, a protective case (and built-in stand) that allows you to safely use the ipad independently. It's not as pretty as the MK, but since the MK doesn't have a protective case, it's a matter of time before I drop my ipad. I loved the ESR at first, but it was so bulky that it felt like a Chromebook from 10 years ago. If I'm buying a thin, sleek ipad, I don't want a plastic-feeling keyboard case that's an inch thick when closed. Ideally, if ESR made a thinner, sleeker keyboard with pass-through charging with a modest price increase, it would be the best, since they have a great protective case included. It would still need to have some weight to stabilize from tip-overs, but I'm honestly more concerned with the thickness than weight. So overall, I think the Logitech is the best of both worlds: a design that complements the ipad and a keyboard that feels like it's worth the investment. It looks like a real laptop when closed (rather than a closed-book design), and I personally don't have any problem using it on my lap. Plus, having a detachable keyboard makes it feel more innovative. If the Logitech is too expensive, go with the ESR "Ascend" series. It's very similar, thinner than the Rebound, and half the price of the LT.

  • @thehocuspocus9

Idk anyone here experienced this but the logitech combo touch in older generations (mine is iPad Air 2020) is not that good. And i’ve used 2 of them (i got a faulty unit in the first one, and replaced it. So i cycled through 2 different units of this keyboard case.) and both have this same issue: the trackpad.
The trackpad would randomly just “disconnect”. Suddenly just loses connection. And i would need to tap on a random key to “jolt” it back. And when it does come back, the scrolling becomes staggered; the screen only moves after i lift my fingers up. And to revert the scrolling back to instantaneous, i have to detach and reattach the keyboard.
And also, it is a chore to lug around the entire ipad with the keyboard all the time. Every single time i wanna use my ipad, i have to find a big empty surface to rest my ipad because the combo touch requires quite a big surface area to sit on, then for the keyboard to open and lay flat, 2 hands for the hinge to prop up, and then also 2 hands to detach the keyboard. So on the go? It’s just not a very pleasant experience. It’s a very 2-hand operation.
Sure, magic keyboard sounds like a great idea; my friend used it and doesnt seem to have the trackpad problem. And it definitely requires a smaller surface to prop up. But you cant use the ipad without the magic keyboard, not at least you find a separate stand for the ipad itself after detaching it. Part of the appeal of the logi combo touch was that the ipad could still have a stand (and previous magic keyboard also didnt have a row of function keys. Now they do.)
The higher end ipad’s keyboard solutions from Apple are just weird, if not frustrating. Whilst i think their entry ipad 10th gen’s keyboard solution from themselves is great; a magnetic flap at the back without casing makes the whole contraption much less bulky while simultaneously acting as a stand, and detachable keyboard with the pogo pins situated at the bottom of the ipad, instead of at the back of the ipad air and pro. Sure, it doesnt solve the issue of using a big surface to get the whole ipad propped up, but having a stand on an ipad is almost more important than anything else in the ipad accessories space.
No solution is perfect, but i think the 10th gen’s Magic Keyboard Folio is as close as it gets.

If money isn’t an issue - Apple. It’s the best balance between design and function, but it’s way more money.

❤Apple MK is amazing, fit and function perfect. I mean this thing looks so slick. The biggest negative is cost and the minor negative is it’s not fully protected.

I find it strange that you didn’t say any negative things about the ESR. Maybe cuz they gave you the case? The main cons is the weight and needing to charge it separately. But instead of saying those, you made them both sound like pros. To focus on how you can use the esr keyboard even when it is not plugged in as a feature instead of focusing on the con that you need to remember to charge it. And how it’s great to be heavy so it doesn’t tip over instead of saying it’s way heavier than the other two

Maybe because it gives you hundreds of hours of use in a single charge?

You can metigate the fingersprint on the Apple Magic Keyboard by getting a skin. That is what I did for the first Magic Keyboard generation.

Worth noting though I’m also excited by the ESR Rebound: 2024 model is the only iPad for which ESR does not offer a white case. If you click “other options” on the Amazon page it jumps to a case for prior models, which won’t fit. I went to their official website and it says “two colors” but they’re both black (surprise!) and the difference is US vs UK layout. Also because of the lighting here it looks like a steel blue, so it’s closer to gray (grey? ; ) than black, and like the “space black” iPad will show smudges more easily than white would, which is why I got silver. I think the design is superior to others I’ve seen but color matters when you’re using rubber materials in my opinion. The white color is teased at the end of the trailer but there’s no mention of when it will be available if ever 😂 Maybe a ploy to sell what they expect to be the less popular color first, I wonder why they do this to us.

No because it makes the overall device too thick and blocks the smart connectors.

    Great clear & comprehensive comparison.
I'm glad you dissed the extending kick stand on the Logitech. I used Logi's 'Create' keyboard for years for my M1 iPad. It smartly propped up on it's magnetic pass through strip, so no kickstand needed. Logi discontinued the 'Create' and appear to be disinterested in reintroducing this design. But since the whole progression of Apple is to make the iPad more & more LAP-top-like, why offer only a kickstand-supported case which feels AWFUL on your LAP?? It's unstable on your thighs, it bounces around as you type, and does anybody but me mind the bottom edge of the kickstand digging into your thighs...ouch! This seems so obvious as to make me wonder how Logitech's design team can miss this and be so...IlLogical.

Hi all … I just bought the new iPad Pro M4 for 2024 … the 13 inch model. With 512G of ram it is for me, at least, the best iPad I’ve ever used. But this review is all about the one accessory I feel is a requirement of anyone who is a writer. I like to carry my iPad just about every day to the gym, coffee shops, cafes, or to a park setting. The one thing I think is an absolute necessity is a keyboard. It makes the iPad into a laptop but with far more functionality than any laptop I have seen or used. I did the homework and even visited several stores to look over keypads for the right one for me. Of course I started with the Apple Magic but the nearly $400 price tag was a showstopper. simply put it was not worth it to me. Probably just me but I look for value, not flash. I’m not trading my money so some executive can buy his or her second vacation home.
Then I turned to a brand I’ve used many times … the Logitech Combo. I bought that product for my last M1 iPad Pro and it served me very well for nearly 4 years. Never a problem and always dependable as it got its power from the iPad itself. It was a very well thought out design. But the newest version of this product is no longer offered in the Oxford Cloth finish for the iPad Pro 13 inch model. Instead it comes in what looks like a silicone membrane finish that to me is not classy and looks far more utilitarian than a top shelf option for one of the priciest tablets on the market. So I passed on it primarily due to the $260 price tag plus tax. In my view it simply no longer offered the value I want in exchange for my money. Then I went to RUclips to see if others might have similar sentiments and perhaps discover what they found on the market. That’s when I discovered the ERS 360 magnetic keyboard. At just over $100 this is what I was looking for. The product does not disappoint. I ordered it not expecting a huge value but at least one that matched the price. What I got was a product that in my view, is three times the value of any other at the prices they were asking for what they were delivering. This ERS package is everything I could have asked for and then some. The build quality is excellent. Yes, it is a tad heavy but when you look at what’s packed into this tool kit the weight stops being a factor. A laptop would be close to the weight without the many functional abilities this keyboard offers. For me the most useful and surprising feature is the backlit keys. A black keyboard is not easy to read away from bright lights so the backlighting is a real plus. And to my surprise I can choose from 12 different colors. Every key is very well lit and easy to see. The light comes through the key to light up the letter, number or symbol. I can turn it on or off and even adjust the brightness up or down. Then there is the magnetic iPad holder that allows either landscape or portrait positioning of the iPad on the backboard that can be tilted to suit the best viewing. All this folds up into a thin book like carry that even includes a strap to cover and keep the expensive pencil in place. I do wish other makers would pay attention to the importance of this. You only need to lose that pencil one time to realize the value of keeping it attached to the tablet. How could you possibly lose that magnetic pencil, you might ask? Once on a cross country flight in the confines of my seat I took out my iPad and in the process the pencil popped off and rolled under my seat. I got up to find it but could not see it. To end this short story I never found it and it was never turned into lost and found. That over $100 lesson is what I’m talking about. So thank you ERS for thinking of this. To wrap up this review I highly recommend this product to anyone with an iPad in any size. I think it’s a great value and one you will not be sorry you ordered it.

The keyboard is only suitable for a desk. It’s not good for your lap at all. It’s as heavy as a brick. The best advice is to keep your old iPad Pro and the thin lightweight keyboard that you have. Apple continues to fail.

Is there some sort of licensing or something with the Smart Connector? I’ve only ever seen Apple themselves and Logitech utilize it. If ESR could make a case using Smart Connector that would be 👌🏼
