I bought the 12.9” in 2018 and the M2 12.9 in 2022, and I just purchased the 13” M4 2TB. I love it. I use my iPad in every meeting; I have to travel to all of our offices, and when I do that, I only take my iPad.I can do almost everything I need on it. I love this new magic keyboard. It wasn’t cheap - I paid well over 2K. I have an M1 and M3 MacBook Pro and use the 14” Macbook for everything I can’t do on the iPad. I would say I can do everything but Excel. I can make incredible PowerPoint presentations on the iPad.I usually give my son my hand-me-downs, so they go to good use. I won’t be upgrading again for a long time - the cost is becoming prohibitive. I do love new Apple tech.
This was actually relatable and I ve watched tonssss of videos about iPads and MacBooks and yours is the first to talk about being a professional, and a RUclipsr dad. It’s the same for me I gave up my tv to my toddler which made me use my iPad more. I love the scene of you holding ur newborn strapped to you while you edit on your ipad. We don’t see enough how to be parent and a professional/content creator at the same time Congrats on the new baby
I love the portability of the 11 inch Ipad Pro. My M1 IPP replaced my 13 inch Macbook appx. 6mths a go. Portability, focus, being able to dictate / type on it while on the move are game changers for me. I connect my Logitech mouse, MX Keys Mini and LG Extra Wide display to it. Currently considering the M4 version but waiting to see what IOS18 brings. Really enjoyed the video, keep up the great work!
Great review! I love the realistic environment and situations that you test this device in. I am looking at upgrading from my iPad Air 3 to this M4 iPad Pro.
I've got a 2018 iPad Pro 12.9, with a smashed screen so I've now ordered the 11 inch M4. Always thought the 12.9 was slightly too big just to be holding in one hand so decided to downsize
An M4 should be able to power through these apps and use cases without an issue. Glad you like the iPad - that’s the important part. Congrats on being a second time Dad.
I have the iPad Pro 12.9 inch 2018 and am fine for now. iPadOS is still not where I would like it to make the jump. Maybe M5 depending on iPadOS. I am an artist so I could use the extra features of the Apple Pencil Pro but for now the Apple Pencil 2 is just fine. I use the metal tip provided with Adeway Magnetic Screen Protector that I love. I would always have to have a matte screen protector. Hate drawing on glass.
M4 user here- this is a solid review. I have to have a laptop for grad school (some software and larger projects) but most days the iPad will work for my needs. The portability here is unmatched compared to a laptop.
Amazing video man! I am also a dad - ive got a 1 year old who definitely drains all my energy. I know the feeling of trying to get even the tiniest bit of gaming in while being a dad and taking the baby on a walk to get them to sleep! Great editing and analysis of the ipad, keep it up! A month ago I bought the iPad Air M1. I don’t see the need to upgrade. It does everything I want it to do: video editing with DaVinci Resolve, record and stream videos using Camo Studio with both an external DSLR and an audio mixer, email, content consumption, finances, gaming, and more, all connected to a 4K monitor. While the new iPads are faster, there are really no new functions that my iPad can’t do.
I got the M4 iPad Pro 11 inch 512 gb,Magic Keyboard and the Pencil Pro I came up from the iPad Pro M1 11 inch 128gb and this is my comfort size (even though I considered the 13 inch, your video showed work being done,I was getting excited thinking that Apple would release an M3 iPad Pro and was really glad when they went this route, hopefully they will release some goodies next month during WWDC to show what this baby can do because right now my M1 can compete with this one,I will check out the paper like screen protector
I haven’t had an ipad since ipad gen6, i got an ipad pro primarily for work this year i definitely see the difference but not sure why compare a mobile device to a computer. Depending on use case scenarios there may be a lot you can do on both but the easy of a computer with multiple mobile feels more complicated to me for productivity. I equally use both though. In my use im not restricted to specific OS software so i can be pretty flexible. I understand this may not always be the case for everyone though. As far as at my workplace in general ipads are frequently used for patient the check in process and some usage to take vitals and medical app’s note taking
I have used an M1 iPad Pro as my sole device for the past 3 years. I just picked up an M3 MacBook Air and i”m curious if I am disappointed and just what to keep using my ipad. 8:54
@@Breeoxd I still use my iPad Pro, the majority of the time. I find it’s just easier and simpler to use but then again 90% of what I do are simple tasks like email web browsing running Spotify and I also use Goodnotes for not taking it work heavily. The one area where the MacBook Air completely blows the iPad away is when you’re saving files or moving things around in a file structure. It’s much easier to do that in the desktop OS and also I’ve decided I want to start making some videos and editing them and I think that will be easier on a more powerful laptop. In a perfect world you have both… they have slightly different use cases… but for me, I like the iPad Pro better.
Considering the same switch and your video just helped me make my decision. Picking up the 13’ this weekend with Magic Keyboard and some AirPods Max. Definitely late to the game on those but when in Rome lol. Great content and just subscribed!
I had ipad mini 5 since 2019, and this was something I've been waiting for years - 11' Pro model on parity with 13' on features. Perfect for me, and most likely ideal 'laptop' replacement! So I can understand where you come from with the review as well. People might say, why not Macbook? Or other laptops? Simple, no easy drawing and handling, and regular OS style is BORING. I already work in IT on laptops, I have Windows PC for VR and top end gaming, and Steam Deck for mobile Linux gaming and open source workhouse. If I would have a laptop that is just more of the same, I would die from boredom and annoyance.
I am using M1 ipad pro 12.9 & very happy with the power & usability. Don't feel the need to upgrade for years until it works fine 😊 But will be purchasing the new ipad mini 7 if released this year 😊 because iPad mini is use the most ❤️
Subbed as actually a sane video about the iPad and not one where it's just somebody moaning about it not being a Mac. Also bonus for being a fellow dad 🫡
Fantastic review, so over the same comparisons to M2. Yes it’s nice to know comparisons, but not as the entire focus. Anyone with an M2 shouldn’t be looking really till M6 unless they really want this, but it’s not a need. For anyone with a Pre M chip or possibly someone that picked up a second hand M1 might be worth it. Anyone coming from a prior 11 inch iPad Pro LCD to Oled is a pretty neat upgrade! I have the 11 inch iPad Pro 2020 A12z Bionic, im very excited to pick up the 13 inch M4. I want more screen realestate!
Can you tell us more, how does a workday feels using/multitasking on Teams+Outlook+Excel on an 11" iOS device ? How does the experience compare to a traditional Windows laptop ? I am very curious about the ergonomic, fluidity, etc.
Depends on the teams/outlook/excel tools you want to use. E.g.: - the new planner isn’t available over the native app, you have to sign in over the web client. - share to teams from outlook isn’t available over the native app - many excel things are on other places or not yet available
Can you the new iPad replace a laptop if you really not doing much professional work on it only thing you doing is mostly web browsing and stock trading ?
I never understand the reason for the 13” iPad Pro. I feel if you need a screen that size, you should get the MacBook in whatever spec suits you. With that said, I have been waiting to upgrade my 11”M1 Pro since I bought it at launch. It still works great but the new 11” M4 Pro is a worthy upgrade. Not that the M1 was bad but everything on the M4 is better. Slightly easier to hold, a little lighter, videos look even better, web pages seem to render faster and haven’t crashed so far. I tended to have an issue where Safari on the M1 would just crash on heavier graphics sites. Excited to see what iOS18 brings for the iPad Pro.
I’ve used a 13 inch MacBook Air for a long while. Great machine, figured a 13 inch iPad would be too much overlap. 11 inch is great for me. Although it’s actually badass enough there’s a lot to be had for a 13” for me particularly with editing. That said I’m happy with my 11”
Thanks for the review! I am also one who's hoping to plug in the ipad into a monitor with stage manager. I've done so with my M1 iPad air but have always been disappointed with the retina 2x scale on monitor look. Looks like even with the new iPad Pro it's still defaulting to that? I too have a large ultrawide and was hoping for the same scaling I can get from my macbooks. But then again I'd probably get rid of my macbook air if it had the same features so apple wouldn't want that haha.
I upgraded from the 256GB iPad Pro 11 (2020) to the 1TB M4 iPad Pro 13 and man I dunno what I was thinking. this thing is too huge lol. It's great when I use it as an extra monitor for my computer or for watching movies when travelling but using it in bed or on the couch it just feels so unwieldly. am happy I went with 1TB though. with a few console quality games coming to the App Store now like Assassins Creed and Resident Evil those will be fun to play on a plane with a controller. and the storage for downloading movies before travelling is great, too. oh and the extra RAM with 1TB was a big reason I chose it, too. right there with you on the OLED life though. iPhone, iPad, my computer monitors, my bedroom TV, my living room TV, everything OLED OLED OLED lmao. keep up the videos tho dood really like your channel. i like that you skip all the spec stuff and are more about how whatever device youre reviewing integrates into your life.
I use excel on iPad mainly for reference and baaaaasic formula work, beyond that if it's a huge consideration, I'd go 13" for any large tables. From an accounting standpoint for me, it's primarily used for referencing account tables etc that aren't too massive.
This is a tough sell even from an M1 iPad Pro. The screen is nicer, and I like the newer keyboard due to the aluminum feel. Outside of that, not too much really going on for me. I'm really looking forward to what WWDC will show for iPad OS. That will be deciding factor for me.
I use LumaFusion and an external hard drive so I dont need the big internal storage. Can Final Cut Pro grab video and export to the external disk like LumaFusion can?
Man, you sound just like my scenario of working in accounting as well as being a gamer. “How” do you do your job on an ipad though? Like I can’t imagine running big excel files, manipulating the data around in pivot tables, making reports, etc all from an ipad. I know they’ve come a long way in terms of power but it’s still mind boggling to me. I gave up playing games on a mac when I bought my 2019 intel MacbookPro 16”. I’m looking at getting a Macbook Air 13” 16gb/512gb SSD to replace for my personal laptop that I would also use for when I’m working from home remotely. Before committing to another Mac I had been comparing it to iPads for basically your example of use so the vid was awesome!
How do you keep your iPads nice using the magic keyboard when there is no protection for the iPad itself? Curious about your thoughts on cases for the iPad when on the magic keyboard
I’m actually a huge fan of the magnetic folio Apple makes. It’s so expensive for what it’s but I’ve tried so many others and they don’t periodically come close to the quality. Once the pain of having spent so much on this wears off I’ll likely snag the folio as well.
Great for referencing tables and formulas on the daily. Pivots don’t work as well as I’d hope, but this is a supplementary device for my day job! I would not use only this for excel.
@@MinimalisTech that’s too bad. I attend a number of conferences and seminars, and usually end up having to type on my lap. I wish apple would consider situations like that when designing things like this that are supposedly for people on the go
Hey, what is the little felt holder you have? The one that holds the iPad and is held down by the keyboard you put on it in the Accessories section? Looks like exactly what I've been looking for!
I switched from M2 to the M4. But still uses an iPhone 14 Pro. I’m just a tablet guy. But prefer the 11 inch in all my iPad Pro except the first gen of iPad Pro in 12.9. Way too big for me.
1:30 I believe they stopped producing actual portable 11-12 inch MacBooks to sell iPads but I can't see that happening for everyone. iPad + keyboard is mad pricy, especially when it's a iPad Pro and pro keyboard.. and iPad Air is not even worth it IMO.
I love iPads. Don’t do anything really with a computer. I love the pros though and can afford one so I use it for my needs. I’m using the M1 Pro and it’ll probably do me a long time for all I need it for.
Lack of Background Processes and System-Wide Utilities - this the major problem with the iPad pro and I keep asking Apple please fix it. I have to wait 1hr to render a video and wait for it to upload without touching the ipad. Did Apple resolve this problem with the M4?
i have a 6 week old as well as a 2 year old thats always tying up our 65" tv watching blippi & garbage trucks lol. i have the 2018 pro and want to upgrade. this is the first review i can relate to lol
It’s been surprisingly good. Like actually fully usable. So far my only downside is the lack of being able to drill into Pivot tables or run Macros. So far no complaints as a complementary excel piece.
When you said you were an accountant, I was like YESSSS! Someone is finally gonna talk about using this iPad for normal people stuff. Not just content creation since 90% of the population aren’t RUclipsrs. Then… you didn’t talk about it 😢
Good video - but if your accountant or anyone who uses excel daily then this is a no go. As long excel is awful and pretty much unusable as it really lags when scrolling spreadsheets
I’m really surprised you didn’t say more about Teams being a pile of garbage for video calls on an iPad. Specifically I’m referring to external displays and webcams.
Oh man! I find it the opposite. The audio and cam management on windows teams is so bad I just use my iPad haha. It must just bad bad all around 🤷🏽 lol
Congrats on the kid pal and great video. The iPad mini 6 is the bomb totally agree. for me the iPad Pro compliments the mac, the iPad mini 6 compliments the iPad Pro!! lol

What about the issue oled graining pixels. Some RUclipsrs have mentioned that problem
My mbpro 2019 screen cracked this month. So I'm forced to do everything with 2020 iPadPro. To my surprise I actually managed
@@MinimalisTech Oh sweet, those folios are actually compatible with the magic keyboard?
How is excel on iPad? Since you're an accountant.
Great for referencing tables and formulas on the daily. Pivots don’t work as well as I’d hope, but this is a supplementary device for my day job! I would not use only this for excel.
What’s the name of the anime movie/series you’re watching at 10:55 ?
Are you using the 11 inch or 13 inch M4 Pro?
How is using the magic keyboard on your lap? Does it just flop over?
Kindaaa. One of the weaker things about the KB. It’s definitely made to be used on a levelled surface.
@@MinimalisTech that’s too bad. I attend a number of conferences and seminars, and usually end up having to type on my lap. I wish apple would consider situations like that when designing things like this that are supposedly for people on the go
Great video! Thanks!
Thanks for watching! Appreciate it
One of the few iPad interesting videos. Thanks!
Hey, what is the little felt holder you have? The one that holds the iPad and is held down by the keyboard you put on it in the Accessories section? Looks like exactly what I've been looking for!
hey man! It’s from Nuphy under their “accessories”. Different sizes depending your KB.

I switched from M2 to the M4. But still uses an iPhone 14 Pro. I’m just a tablet guy. But prefer the 11 inch in all my iPad Pro except the first gen of iPad Pro in 12.9. Way too big for me.
So what about Excel?
It's the make-or-break factor for me.
On the regular ipad it sucks.
Fantastic review dude! I'm so on the fence but I think ultimately I'm going to stick with my M3 MBA... but the M4 iPad Pro is very, very tempting!
Thanks dude. If I had to just pick one machine I’d still go air too.
Why the hdr video not working on iPad Pro m4 ?
Lack of Background Processes and System-Wide Utilities - this the major problem with the iPad pro and I keep asking Apple please fix it. I have to wait 1hr to render a video and wait for it to upload without touching the ipad. Did Apple resolve this problem with the M4?
Nop
i have a 6 week old as well as a 2 year old thats always tying up our 65" tv watching blippi & garbage trucks lol. i have the 2018 pro and want to upgrade. this is the first review i can relate to lol
LOL. Dude I’ve watched every flippin blippi episode. I twiddle my thumbs till I give up and start researching the dude as a person lmaooo
Given the price of the 1TB, why not take less on-device storage and buy more cloud storage?
Thought about it, it was mainly to double the RAM + on-system storage for editing.
Great video from an iPad M4 11 fanboy!
Thank you! Really is awesome!
Is this the 11” model in the video?
Yes its the 11
Dude the static image on ipad while you’re using monitor freaks me out about the possibility of burn in
Dragon Ball Broly and DBZ T Shirt. Deserve a Thumbs up! Good video, mate.
Glad to see you are happy with the 11" model...other utubers are going for the 13"..but you show buy saving a "few' bucks ...it gets things done 😅
I should have gotten the black Magic Keyboard than the white one.
I wish there was regular Excel (not Office 365) version for iPad OS.
Fellow accountant here… had a m2 air and now got a 11 in pro. More than enough for us accountants 😊
You don’t have any trouble using accounting software on ipad?
@@Ghost-jy9hk most of my stuff I use is office 365 and have no issues. I went with the Logitech combo and it has the detached keyboard
so is this the 11inch or the 13 inch?
I got the 11”
What’s your thoughts for excel
It’s been surprisingly good. Like actually fully usable. So far my only downside is the lack of being able to drill into Pivot tables or run Macros.
So far no complaints as a complementary excel piece.
Great video 🎉 new subbie
I have the 11 inch M4 iPad Pro base model. Pencil pro & a magnetic case without keyboard. I am loving it. I also have iPad mini 6.
Perfect combo!
If I didn’t need the storage for editing I could’ve definitely gotten base model too.
Get the nano glass ipad
When you said you were an accountant, I was like YESSSS! Someone is finally gonna talk about using this iPad for normal people stuff. Not just content creation since 90% of the population aren’t RUclipsrs. Then… you didn’t talk about it 😢
This video is perfect 👌
❤😉🤗 Great video dad.
Keeping my iPad Air 5
Good video - but if your accountant or anyone who uses excel daily then this is a no go. As long excel is awful and pretty much unusable as it really lags when scrolling spreadsheets
Same here with regard to giving the TV to the kids. I’ve resorted to watching all my sports on my ipad. Sad state of affairs lol
The iPad mini 6 is the bomb totally agree. for me the iPad Pro compliments the mac, the iPad mini 6 compliments the iPad Pro!! lol
