✨Checkout Paperlike here: geni.us/Paperlike_iPadPro - not just protectors but great iPad accessories too! 🗣Probably not the usual wishy washy overly positive review 😬 I did try to stay objective and there are plenty of positives in this product. But I personally struggle to find a justification for this device, considering how much it costs and the available options out there. As ever, I welcome your opinion too and would love to hear those! Have a lovely day 🙏🏼
🥰 That iPad Charging Stand I showed? geni.us/iPadChargingStand 🔋 🥰 The drawing apps showed in this video are Concepts and Procreate. 🥰 The 3D model app I showed is Nomad.
Yes but if you got the money for a Ferrari, you can show off a Ferrari. I think main problem is people choosing a Ferrari over a Corolla because its “future proof”
@@yippiecalle421 the thing is, I do have a Ipad pro.. and it's frustrating having such a powerful device limited by it's Os. I don't want to show off the Ipad, I just want to do more.
@rafaelericson I use it with Adobe apps and it links to the Apple monitor as well, which is another aspect I like it for. I draw, and need the real estate of 13" and the IOS for the apps
I'm using an M1 iPad and don't see any reason to upgrade yet. I use it every day for watching TV/movies, a few games and Procreate. I love the Apple ecosystem where everything is synced together but don't really use the iPad for any 'pro' features and agree that it's definitely not a 'pro' model yet. Love your videos and your honesty about the products!
I sold my desktop for an iPad M4 as my main device, but I don't need a computer for work or video editing or anything. It's mostly a media consumption device, basic office program usage, emails, web browsing, and light creative like drawing and pixel art. There are some compromises but also some conveniences. Two big things I love on iPad over other Apple computers is FaceID. Having FaceID in your PC workflow is super convenient. I also enjoy having a lot of things be app-based, like mobile banking or news sources, etc. It feels more focused and more of a tailored experience. There are times where it's not as good. For example, the RUclips app is worse than just using RUclips in Safari, but those cases aren't that often. If I had to get serious work done on the iPad, or if I was a programmer, then yeah, you'll need a MacBook. But iPad is really good for a lot of things and is a very flexible device that I can use as a computer or as a tablet in bed.
I just love how apple keeps scamming people to spend money to think that they need something when in reality they don't, when the ipad air is perfectly capable to do 99% of the things the pro model does, someone should do a survey to ask people what they do mostly on their ipad
I’ve owned iPad Pros since the OG in 2015 (currently recently upgraded to the M4 13inch 5G version) and I’ve honestly never used them for any “Pro” workflow or anything like that. I just choose them for the best specs available since they usually last for more than 5 years or so without slowing down. Been loving consuming content and playing games on it. That said, the 1000 nits SDR brightness has been an absolute gamechanger for me. Gone are the days of sunlight and office lights overpowering my iPad screen. Love this thing!
Longevity is a great point to be fair. I have to admit if I wasn’t doing these reviews I’d probably be still using the M1 iPad Pro, or perhaps even the M1 iPad Air… They do last a long time and display tech as you say has been decent for a while now
@@arondyte318 There is absolutely nothing wrong with that and explains exactly why Apple is so succcessful. Apple is very good at appealing to peoples desires and emotions. Buy what you like. It still does not mean your choice makes any logical or financial sense.
@@messicomps344I’m curious why Apple doesn’t want to implant macOS into the Magic Keyboard itself and using iPad Pro as a display? Then we will have both worlds in one device…
@@kennetha6594 ...I never needed one in the first place...If you ask me, there should me Macbook Pro, without the "Pro" in the name and the device I asked for. But money talking...
I'm pretty sure my next device will be the Microsoft Surface Pro 2in1. I need to see how support for ARM progesses, but I do know that I want my next tablet to be a full-on computer, not an oversized phone.
It’s certainly the way I thought Apple were going with the iPad. they even used to say ‘this is your next computer’ but I guess they really don’t want to mess up those MacBook sales 😉
I have the new Pro13 inch on the way. I know I won't use a lot of the features right away, but it's more for future proofing. I don't plan on buying another one for at least 5 more years. My old iPad (6th generation) from 2018 was showing it's age. Thanks for your honesty
Finally, an honest iPad review from someone that isn’t worried about what Apple thinks. I recently bought a new 11 inch iPad Pro 2022 M2, M4 would have been overkill also got £200 discount. Great video Alex
Thank you. yes, it's a shame as I truly love the device as a concept and for what it could be. I hope Apple comes to its senses soon and just let developers take it to the next level
I am with you. The problem with most RUclips creators - they think everyone does there kind of work. Very few people do. I am convinced 95% of ipad users could easily get by with a basic 2017 ipad with proper ios updates, not useless features that just throttle the umits.
yup! The iPad can definitely support some fantastic workflows but to me it seems like more geared towards creative work. It doesn't need much more and I think Apple are going in the right direction, but just too slow.
So what? Do you have any right to judge who buys what for what work? You "functionalists" always think you can think and judge for others. You can't. And what you always forget is the "look and feel". It's just great to hold the new iPad13 in your hand and work with it. So light, so big, so beautiful. I admire the technology too. And I can work well with it. Not everything, but most of it. And when I look at which of my 5 Apple gadgets I have in my hand the most during the day, it's the iPad. The iPad is also oversized for most of my work. But I don't think it's any of your business what I spend my money on. Just shut up. So just stop trying to judge who does what work with the iPad and what they could "get by with". You're thinking far too short-sightedly. Your horizons are limited.
I wish Apple would copy the feel of the S pen to avoid the need for additional stuff that dulls the screen just to make writing feel good. I’ve got the 11”. I’m also in your camp, the aspect ratio of the iPad is bad vs the s9 Ultra. The iPad has been more reliable for me in terms of apps opening and running first time every time vs the S9U.
Don’t get me wrong I totally agree… with you. But when you say There is M1 or M2… once upon a time there wasn’t … and people were ranting M1 the same way. Progress is being so slow… and that what is killing Apple. I am detoxing from the Eco system, bought a password manager that work in Windows, android, anywhere, after all is my password. And also using synology to stop relying on icloud…. eventually be able to choose the best device based on the device itself.
Great review!! Accurate and comprehensive information, and what I like most about you is that you share your opinions with complete transparency and without bias. You are truly an example to be followed Alex i'm so proud of you! Keep going 👏🏻🥰🫶🏻
As soon as possible, thank you so much! I tend to buy the Pixel after everyone. I invested a lot of time and effort in the last 3-4 years on Pixel but didn’t see much of a return, sadly. But I will definitely review it as I love Pixels
Honestly..I love your work and effort you put in making these videos 🙏👍as I'm confused 🤔 😕 if I should buy the pixel 9 pro or wait for the S25 ultra.. Currently my daily driver😌 for the past 2 years has been S22 ultra and I have been thinking of what to purchase for the coming year....Have a good day @AlexGTech
Purchase it for its actual purpose, not for what you assume it should fulfil. Apple is well-versed in its customer base and holds a deeper understanding of technology and business than the average person on RUclips. It's no surprise that iPad Pros outsell the base model iPad despite their higher price point. They are evidently making sound decisions. It operates on a mobile OS, so those who expect it to function like a desktop should adjust their expectations. Apple and the majority of its users recognize that it is a supplementary device designed to last 7-10 years, enabling you to accomplish nearly everything with an iPad and MacBook. It's my belief that the contention between Mac and iPad is often amplified by creators for views and to cater to the anti-Apple audience. Ignore that perspective, disregard the RUclips algorithms, and trust your judgment. If you believe the iPad Pro will serve you well in the years to come, then it's a wise purchase.
Partially agree with you on how Apple positions the iPad. I do struggle though (as a consumer first, as a tech reviewers second) with the borderline false advertisements, making the iPad Pro sound like this super capable device when it's not that much more capable than a 6 years old iPad Pro. People will buy iPad pros even if Apple does nothing to it for another decade so I always take sales data with a pinch of salt too.
@@AlexGTech It's clear that we all grasp the marketing concepts and can discern its subtleties. A glance at the recent promotion of the X-Elite reveals the ubiquitous presence of marketing and advertising efforts. As consumers with purchasing power, we should rely on our own discernment rather than the alluring promises of unattainable rewards, which almost invariably lead to disappointment.
I really don’t mind the iPadOS.. I really like it for a tablet experience… But these things really hurts: -I really hate the file management system, why can’t an app access the files on my iPad without moving it to it’s app specific folder…?? (I don’t have any complaints about the files app though, It does what it’s supposed to) -I would really like it to have a robust app side loading support, similar to MacOS…(Not what we have right now, we still need a third party AppStore to sideload, and still the app has to comply with Apple’s own AppStore policy, In the end it’s just an extension to the Apple’s AppStore) -Why still to this day we don’t have a proper firewall system on iPadOS..
I have the first iPad Pro and the 3rd one…the first one has such a better battery life than i am not going to upgrade to new one until they improve that part.
Price is the problem, if they weren’t charging over macbook pricing for ipad pro with magic keyboard I don’t believe it would be such an issue, but with that combination and price no reason it couldn’t dual boot to mac os
Kudos on a great video Alex! It's always fun to hear other peoples experience with the iPad Pro. I can sure see the frustration for a more sophisticated work flow like yours. I was fifth in line at my Apple Store launch day. Preordered it. It was really intended to compliment my MBP 14", but after a brief delay I added the Magic Keyboard and never looked back. My use case is business in a large corporate setting. Still some upgrades needed but still very useful from my perspective. Cheers and thanks!
Thank you so much!! I always get excited about the iPad but have been burnt a few times so this time I just tried to enjoy it for what it is. And when I do use it, like I said, it does put me in a really relaxed mood. the Magic Keyboard typing and the beautiful display really make this a lovely device to use. I just think they should probably drop the Pro name until it can really be more flexible. Thanks so much for your comment and have a lovely week ahead!
I really feel like there should be more details. I’ve been watching YT far too much especially tech stuff. And I find that for established high end tech reviewers, and video editors the iPad isn’t enough. I run into a lot of similar limitations as a musician. I can’t just graft my Mac based workflow onto the iPad. But sometimes creativity is in making the best you can with the tools given. There are multiple channels that don’t have a fancy Mac Pro and 8k $200k cameras. They can use the iPad to make money. Which is all that is needed for someone to be a “professional” As a professional DJ I can perform using the iPad. I do wish RUclipsrs were more honest to their audiences in saying “yes this isn’t pro for me, but I’m just one use case”
@@AlexGTech I think it’s about expectations and I think your expectations are a bit too high and you should try to take the iPad for what it is. It’s not a MacBook and it never will be but I do agree that Apple needs to make sure that the iPad is a close alternative to a MacBook or a Mac and it also depends on what you plan on using the device for but I’m getting an iPad Pro 9 to use it for video editing mostly and obviously playing games or emulators I appreciate your opinion and I do respect it but for me there isn’t anything that’s near the iPad and whether you agree or not you can’t argue that when it comes to being a content creator or artist or musician there is no alternative to the iPad and you can do 85 or 95% of what you can do on a Mac now with an iPad Pro.
I purchased the 13 inch fully specked out model and it basically does nothing more than my 5 year old iPad basic plain $350 one. The os is the problem!
All of this makes me super happy that I went in on the 12.9 inch M1 iPad Pro with the 1TB option. The 1TB option unlocked 16gb of ram. I’ve always felt that extra ram is always a good thing, and I just couldn’t be any happier with my ipad even knowing that there is now an M4 version available, which I wouldn’t notice much differences from my existing unit. Hello upcoming AI functions and upcoming AI enhanced Siri! I won’t get any of this on my iPhone 14 Pro Max, but I plan on upgrading to the latest iPhone as soon as I’m able to get it. I will be going through Verizon, so I will just have to contact them to get in on the preorder and arrange for that upgrade. Then we will see about all of the new AI enhancements. I hope they are true game changers!
If you are going to use primarly for watching content, get the TAB Ultra, there is no comparison for that, its also OLED screen and super bright. Now, if you have an iPhone, Mac and so on, then get the iPad.
Really depends on the apps you use. Value for money-wise, Tab S9 Utlra for sure. But if you don’t want to spend too much, the Tab S8 Ultra even is still amazing. Maybe get that, save some cash for now and see what Tab S10 brings. 5 years is a long time, so really think hard about the apps you need. For instance, if you want creative apps, then the iPad will have more options. Sad, but true.
Paperlike is not enough put in the lights, this is an entire part of the iPad experience and I would SO much like that they sell Android tablets versions as well!
I mainly use my M2 iPad pro as a second monitor for my M2 pro Macbook Pro when im doing CAD models. And watching movies. I thought about getting the M4 for the screen but I couldn't justify the cost. Now if better CAD Software came to the iPad pro and could be used in conjunction with mac then I probably would get a M4. Until then, The M2 handles everything I throw at it.
Good enough to use isn’t good enough. Was seriously thinking of upgrading from my M2 12.9 inch to the M4. I’ll wait for the M5, maybe that will be unleashed. Thanks for your honest review
my iPad Pro M1 12.9 5G battery health is now at 73% LOL. Had to connect it to power outlet most of the time. M4 iPad Pro is not a necessary upgrade for me yet, although the front camera placement is kinda spot on though. and god damn apple, just give us Journal app for the iPad already! What's holding you? going to replace Evernote with Journal once it's ready for iPad. I hate needing to subscribe.
I bought the iPad Air to be able to take advantage of the AI features when they arrive next year. Beyond that , my needs for all of these devices are rather pedestrian. That said, it seems to me that the IOS 18 features have improved things. Apple obviously moves according to their own rhythm, mostly I guess to keep the business flowing from year to year. They are pretty good at that. I think they got rushed up a bit this year with the AI craze. I am 70 and lived from main frames to minis to mobile computing. It’s all amazing to me. By the way, if you must journal, dictate to your iPhone or use notes or whatever. Keep up the good work. You keep it fun.
The irony is that the “nanotexture” screen is ugly and it destroys resolution and contrast. The pure Oled tandem screen is stunning. I was shocked at how bad the matte screen is
It’s definitely got strong points and for the right use, it can be all you need. I know a couple of friends who swear by the iPad and use it as their main device for everything. I just couldn’t… And for how much it costs, I feel like they should be a bit more capable. It’s getting better but I can see why Apple won’t unleash the power of the iPad. People could potentially buy less MacBooks as a result and that’s not good for shareholders 😉
@@AlexGTech I haven’t tried any of the upcoming IOS18 out such as Siri but from what I have seen it’s all going to be quite magical if your in the ecosystem and posses the right models when the update drops mid September 😃
I think it’s a silly question. The real question is what did you buy it for? There are a lot of apps for this that can and do use the power. I use several. There are also things it won’t do. It’s a tablet. It’s not a “classic” computer and it’s not supposed to be. If you buy it thinking it is, then you’ve made a mistake. I believe that the main reason why some people are unhappy with this. That doesn’t mean that Apple gets everything right. They don’t. Nobody does. I’ve used the various Tabs and they’re just not really competitive. But I don’t see as much criticism of Samsung over that and their top models are pretty expensive as well.
@@Adamtendo_player_1 macOS is so versatile. Multiple audio sources simultaneously. Virtual machine support. Terminal. Multiple monitors. A robust window manager. Variable refresh rate support. Ability format and unmount media/disks (iPadOS 18 finally after all these years now has the ability to format but still can’t safely unmount). iPadOS could be so much more versatile as iPads have the powerful M chips inside.
OK. Lots of comments here. I bought the 13 inches iPad Pro 2024. Great machine. However, as you’re pointing out, it may not be suitable for commercial pro work. I am having a blast with 4K videos from my iPhone and auto dashcam and Final Cut Pro but I I was really a Pro, I would probably be running Adobe Premiere on a Windows machine like I did 20 years ago. That being said, I did purchase the 1 TB version of the Pro and I wish I had done the same thing on my iPhone. Fact of a matter, my iCloud Drive is filled with 40 years of memory and high resolution photos from DSLRs. I have all the room I need with the most powerful iPad from Apple. And also, the display is so great that I am even neglecting my home TV theatre, along with the AirPods Pro. There is really a big benefit with the iPad Pro but unless you are a pixel peeper, it is not worth is as you mention.
@@benjilafouine great points there! With storage I personally refuse to pay through the nose for it. It is super convenient and most pros would rather spend more on local storage, for sure. I think that, for a lot of people, the compromise of using a small SSD and other cloud services will make a bit more sense. I actually just uploaded a video talking a bit about external storage for iPhone. Not all of them are suitable for things like ProRes which Pros would appreciate
@@AlexGTech And there is also a big road block with the new Apple AI: initially, it will be only available in English, no other language support (by the way, my main tongue is French). I speak and write in French most of the time but I will give it a good look at because I am already using AI software for photography. So for me, the English AI may just be useless to me in its early stage. As for storage, yes I have plenty of local storage but as you probably know, storage should be kept also outside the home. And also, and this is the kicker, iCloud runs in a way that it will download what you need on your machine as you go when you open files. If your iCloud storage exceeds by far the storage on your iPhone or iPad, you will be stuck clearing that storage on your devices all the time. I am in the process of making a video of my land and in no time, I was at 53 GB taken just for this project on my iPhone. External storage works, but not with all apps.
Still loving my 2021 12.9" M1 iPad Pro and iPad Mini 6! As an artist, I would LOVE to have the new M4 iPad Pro and the added features of the newset Apple Pencil. But, I can't justify the added expense. Plus my Apple Pencil 2 is compatible with BOTH my M1 iPad Pro AND my iPad Mini 6. I'm expecting the next iPad Mini 7 to be compatible with the newset Apple Pencil. But, time will tell. Great content, as always. Thanks, Alex!
That was definitely an iPad that was worthy upgrading to. But even that had a couple of unnecessary tricks like 16GB RAM version which for a while couldn’t even be used by apps. I think you are doing the right thing, the upgrade isn’t warranted just for the new Apple Pencil Pro and display. And thanks so much for the kind words 🥰
I wanted to upgrade from an 11” 2020 pro to a bigger screen (better for my art work and use of animation apps, as is the aspect ratio on a large iPad). This device is my sole computer. Procreate Dreams, for eg, has extra options I can use with an M series chip, and I was considering getting an M series 13” pro refurb. But in the end went for the new iPad Pro for - the landscape selfie camera for video calls, the thinness (so lighter, helpful cos of health issues I have), and the oled screen is a bonus. I really like it. It was very expensive, (and had to get a new pencil too (which does have nice features to help stomach the extra expense), but expecting to keep it for a looong time. I certainly wouldn’t object if apple did more for it though! Do limited video editing and is OK for me but since they could improve that for people, why not?
I do think the iPad is absolutely perfect for creative work (taking into account what I said about basic video editing). And you are right, these things are built to last. I just wish the software development was moving faster in relation to the amazing hardware.
My M2 doesn’t get used anymore at all but if not for me going from 8gb to 16gb of ram (1tb and above) by selecting correct version helps a bunch in 4k editing more complex situations and music plug ins when stacking runs without stutter for me now. Had I chose a 1tb M2 I would not have upgraded.
Yes, it definitely sounds like you are in that pro category who actually make the most of the extra iPad performance. Majority of people (including myself) sometimes make the mistake of ordering for longevity but actually over spend on upgrades that they won't ever need
I feel that if Apple allow full version of Pages, Keynote, and Numbers (Microsoft Office as well) to be installed in the pro iPads, the sale of iPads will skyrocket. Many of us have to choose laptops for office works instead of iPad due to this exact reason.
I totally agree with everything you are saying. I love the iPad Pro but iPad OS sucks for a Pro device. It's perfect for my iPad Mini 6th gen but when I spend over £2K on an iPad Pro I expect the OS to let me do everything my MacBook Pro can even if the interface is slightly different. I object to Apple not allowing me to side load any apps I choose. Ultimally, I am responsible for the devices security, not Apple. I want the OS to give me full access to the hypervisor so I can run VMs. I am pleased Apple now permits emulators in the Apple Store, but these also need access to just in time (JIT) compilation to improve performance. I love the new calculator app (... why did it take so long) and finally the Files app gives me a "right click" option to erase / format external SSDs and memory cards, but why no eject / repair options, as I frequently must repair a drive using either a Windows PC or MacBook after my iPad Pro has corrupted it! I see no point using Apple's new Journal app while there is no iPad OS version, because iPhone interface to too small for such an app, especially when you are an old fart like me, who now appreciates larger font sizes! But it's opening the Apple Store that makes me feel most disappointed about my expensive M1 12.9-inch 2TB iPad Pro, because all I see is a mass of mediocre smart phone apps, and I think is that really all I can run on this device ... what a complete waste of that amazing technology ... why is Apple so anally retentive?
The one reason to buy a "Pro" iphone or ipad.... if you get a use for the Lidar. I work in construction, there are certain apps that use the lidar and the cameras to do reality capture. Generate 3d meshes or point clouds that you export to other software like Autodesk Revit. Its really really useful, but so niche.
Lidar is certainly a valid use case! I also think the Pro features on the iPhone are a little bit more worthy of a Pro name to be honest. Mostly because of the cameras. ProRes, LOG and the sheer quality of images is insane. But there really isn’t much between the iPad Pro and regular iPad or Air these days.
I think it’s a bit expensive. Other than that, I’m generally ok with it. I have a Mac for my real “pro” stuff. I’m not very hung up on the “Pro” moniker - it is what it is and I quite like the simplified apps.
I haven’t quite finished this yet (I will though!) I always appreciate your honesty. I haven’t had access to a new iPad or MacBook for awhile so I was looking around. Essentially without even having tried anything as yet, the conclusions around the limiting of the iPad Pro is also what I noticed! Why do that? It’s crazy!! Frustrating customers doesn’t necessarily keep customers and automatically cause them to buy more in the ecosystem at some stage, I think quite a few people would start looking elsewhere. I don’t like Samsung but not particularly because of Samsung but because of their non-existent customer service and the fact they have an issue with pins (across electronics) and I don’t like being locked out of my devices! But I can understand why android more broadly is beneficial when Apple is limiting things like this. Anyway! For me? Even though I haven’t finished your review yet, I always value what you have to say and so far agree and am thankful that what I’d noticed matches up with what you’re saying! Thankyou!!!
thank you! I 100% agree. the only problem Samsung (and others) have is that Apple still has great apps that are exclusive to the iPad. Even a basic app like Ulysses for writing, can be a showstopper for someone who has only used that app and has all their writing data in iCloud. And great point about customer service, Apple still dominates this.
@@AlexGTechAbsolutely!! Random fact: Samsung has the most complaints of any company (by far with the second in line being a company that is a complete scam) against them with our fair trading regulatory agency! Most of the complaints are actually around customer service!!! (When I found this out, I didn’t feel so nuts for wanting to tear my hair out.)
Absolutely. There are compromises and the apps are not the same but in terms of value for money… Even the S-Pen is part of the total cost which is awesome!
The reason we keep saying put Mac OS on the iPad is because iPad OS lacks the support and APIs to make it usable. Mac OS is the only way you can have such raw power and easy development. They have to either overhaul iPad OS at the development level and allow real non App Store apps. Lots of the really powerful apps will never be on the App Store. The iPad will just forever be a toy and never be a actual product for work
I posted very similar on Apple’s community “Ask Questions” and my post got removed even though I did NOT violate and Terms of Use. Basically, Apple don’t listen, they do whatever the heck they want to do … the ONLY way to make that change is to not buy Apple … sadly.
Alex, I’m an artist, and would be interested to learning about that color wheel (you tapped the screen, and it appeared in the upper left corner - which you were than able to rotate - and select a color) we saw you using in this video. I’d not seen that before. Where can I get that ?
hi there, I love that app! It's Concepts, been using it on both iPadOS and Android for a while. There is a subscription but the free version is pretty decent already
I bought a fully specked iPad Pro with the M4 and I’m a bit cross with myself. It’s still just a glorified consumption device unless you draw. Until they sort out the file structure, which is deliberately not being sorted, it will never be a pro device and all I will say to everybody is just buy a basic model.
Agreed. It does some pro capabilities but mostly because of the great app developers out there. The device itself is fairly limiting. Apple to be fair have allowed a few things recently which I appreciate, like connecting to an SSD, cameras and using external monitors.
Can I just state that you have said about everything I would like but I feel like we are missing one big feature. Which is, remember back in the day windows were we had login at the beginning and had a guest login. Like we have in Netflix now and even in Disney and etc. it would be nice to have such on the iPad where the owner is the admin and you can have others log in like in the PlayStation console. And with the inclusion of a Dex similar apple feature.
I would LOVE that too, especially for children. But I guess Apple wants us to buy multiple devices even though a single one would suffice for some families. And yes, Stage Manager was a step in the right direction, but nowhere near as efficient
@@AlexGTech you absolutely read my mind. Cause I remember back in the day with windows where the whole family would use one desktop. Which the iPad could play. Cause I don’t see a situation where everyone ends up having one in a family of 5. So why not have such features. It would be nice to see you talk about this and get people talking about it. Plus we really need a DEX feature on the iPad or something close to being a macOS.
Also!!! What is so special in the updates for the iPadOS or the macOS? Look at all the beta updates. Nothing stands out for the iPadOS. Cause it just all seem as one and nothing innovating. And I still find it hard to believe that Apple is solely choosing to avoid innovation. The iPod evolved to the Apple Music. Then the iPad and to the Mac. So why hold back?
Learning the capabilities of the iPad is the frustrating thing for me. I thought going to Applestore and their lessons but that just has never happened. Learning from RUclips I am also a failure except what having a particular problem which mostly is cleared up by RUclips videos and if not Applestore are great at resolving issues But it’s frustrating to buy something that I can learn and expand but not to be able to achieve in the UK
Definitely not easy as a lot of it depends on different apps. Apple are vey clever though in ensuring the most popular apps, especially the creative ones are exclusive on iPadOS. Procreate alone is a great example of that. Why the developers don’t make an Android version? I’d say because they are heavily supported by Apple. So people go for the iPad because their favourite apps is only available on that device. I do think though, that there are great iPad channels out there that do show how to squeeze a lot of value from it. But my main grip is with the iPad Pro. There isn’t much that this can do that the regular iPads can’t.
Great video Alex! Always appreciate your honest take👊 it sure is a nice looking device. I think I'll stay with my M2 iPad Pro for a while longer. Have a great week Alex👍🙏
Thanks Don!! the m2 iPad Pro is already overkill for me 😂 Great decision Don, save some cash for now 😉 Have a great week too, we have a bank holiday tomorrow so already a good start!
Regarding the utility of video editing apps, it would be more appropriate to compare them within the same category of devices. How does the iPad Pro fare against Android tablet editing apps in terms of choices, speed, and smoothness? It seems less reasonable to compare it with laptops that have benefited from a decade of mature video editing applications. As the saying goes, Rome wasn't built in a day; patience is indeed necessary.
I'd say it's probably best in class. Followed by Lumafusion on Android, but not that close. I'd still say the iPad is superior in comparison to others for video editing. But I'd stil maintain that the workflow apple suggests in their ads / launch videos are pretty unrealistic. Any editor who has gone from beginner to intermediate level will struggle with the lack of plugins and flexibility. Not to mention most will edit on a mac anyway. It's just a little hook to say to customers "Hey look you can use pro apps now" but pros know that it's stil extremely limited and the "coming soon" support for 3rd party plugins is now nearly 2 years late
@@AlexGTech Yes, the plugin issue is a shame. I can only assume there have been technical difficulties due to the limitations of the iPadOS backend, which is not built for plugins due to the sandboxing.
It certainly feels like a mobile OS. Stage Manager and multi window support is great but personally I'd like to see more, including basic things like a proper file management. I hate trying to find that PDF that I had saved somewhere on the iPad...
This is a very good review that is both informed and balanced. Happy to subscribe to this channel. I have an iPad Pro M1 from a few years ago and see no value in upgrading as it does all of the iPad things I need to do. For more sophisticated uses I have invested in a Samsung Galaxy S9 Ultra which is fantastic for content consumption and Dex is great for straightforward laptop-like usage. No brainer that Samsung currently leads on value and flexibility at the top end tablets. In my opinion. iPadOS needs a rewrite and this doesn’t need to mean creating MacOS light - something distinctive but way better than what we have right now would reinvigorate the Pro range.
Thank you so much!! That M1 iPad Pro is still a beast! If I wasn’t doing these videos I would probably be still using that one too. And agreed, the software is just getting a bit dated now.
Regarding the absence of the Journal app on the iPad, it is presumed to avoid encroaching on developers' territory. If Apple promotes its own free apps, developers may be discouraged from investing in iPad apps. It's a delicate balance, as creators lament the lack of professional apps from developers, while Apple's actions could potentially exacerbate the situation.
Interesting point. But then I still question why bring it to iOS at all when apps like DayOne and Zinnia and many others already exist for iOS? Some of these are 35 dollars a year so presumably apple is already hurting the developers with the iOS version
@@AlexGTech Indeed, the iPhone market is substantially larger than that of the iPad, allowing developers to profit from iPhone apps even when Apple has its own version. The same level of financial success is less certain for iPad applications.
I am using the iPad Pro 11 inch 2020 model, i am personally waiting for the next iteration. Whether that be M5 or M6. I enjoy gaming on my iPad Pro with COD-mobile, WarZone and Diablo atm… and love the idea of real AAA games. But i personally feel like the M4 is lacking in the GPU slightly, what really matters to get more out of this in this space, i foresee Apple wanting there iPads / devices to all be somewhat capable and so more don’t feel left out. I feel that the next gen will get the largest increase in features as more people will have M chips, which means more Developers will aim at the M chips. I really hope Apple make the next iPad Pro with 12gb ram base though
Diablo on this is insane to be fair! I’ve tried Resident Evil and whilst great, I do think we need a few more titles. Have a great week ahead! Here’s hoping the next iteration of iPadOS refreshes things a little
I downgraded my M2 iPad Pro 12.9 to 11 inch as well. I really enjoyed that smaller size for what I do. Now I went for the 13" M4 iPad Pro, but mostly because of these reviews.
Yes. Get an ipad air is more than enough. There is more value in getting a macbook instead. They should try to put MAC OS into the ipad. :) We are missing a surface pro type of device.
@@AlexGTech Resident Evil Village looks and plays unbelievably well, even with cranked up graphics. Alien Isolation with the oled pitch blacks looks breathtaking. And AC Mirage has been fun. It lets you connect to your ubisoft account. So I can switch seamlessly between my rtx 4090 and ipad
Refreshing to come across a real iPad user that understands the dichotomy of iOS/PadOS and MacOS… From our point of view the only real disappointment of the new iPad Pros was the camera regression. The Vision Pro and the iPhone 15/ 16 Pro models are all capable of Spatial Capture, even the base model iPhone 16’s can, but the iPad Pro’s with an M4 chip cannot… Now, we have to wait until next year, when they may finally draw parody with the other PRO devices in that area, hopefully, huge oversight in our opinion… A real industry game changer would be an iPad Mini Pro that has the camera lens orientation of the iPhone 16 Pro with the same processor, or even an M1, or maybe M2… Until then the 2018 iPad Pro 11” will have to suffice… 🤔
I regret getting the 13 iPad Pro. Even with all that power, productive work even multitasking is inconvenient af. For entertainment, the cheapest iPad can do everything the pros can. I’ll just replace mine with a mini for all things iPad. And get the next version of Galaxy tab ultra next year (hopefully with a snapdragon chip) for Dex multitasking + portable entertainment. I’m very envious of that ip68 rating too as I’m often outdoors. For everything else, I have a workstation setup with a windows gaming laptop. As much of a pain in the asss windows can be, no other os comes close to its software + games availability & work adaptability yet.
That’s kinda my problem with it… It shouldn’t try and be something it isn’t. Because when you see Apple talking about the iPad or showcasing it in their events, they try to convince us that this is to be treated as a computer, used by Pros in the field, or in studios. I’m not the Pro they showcase, so in a way you’re right, I am not their target. But equally, I know enough about the limitations of the iPad to know they are full of s… But as a tablet, this is wonderful
I think Apple is in the rut of “our best ever” and this is technically true and so it should be, but its just not good enough to move to from a device that’s 3-4 years old. I too have used Apple devices from 2007 when Jobs announced the first iPhone and still do. But I have equally tried not to get locked into any singular eco system and I have an S24 Ultra and iPhone. Personally I much prefer the S24 and the Android OS even with the latest offering in iOS 18, may change over time but Apple just seems to want to “Fisher Price” everything. Add in that they now have a much better iPhone available in the EU compared to US and it’s a big no for me. I really think Apple needs to open up all the changes available in the EU to everybody regardless of where you are in the world but I wont hold my breath.
Indeed! These are incredible devices but I really wish they would apply the same effort on software. I do like how EU forced their hands on the USB-C and iMessage x RCS thing. Next for me is Airdrop 😅 WE should be able to transfer images, documents between devices, regardless of the protocol they use.

The Ipad pro is like having a Ferrari in a 30mp/h road
Well put! There are definitely excellent use cases for it, but not much that other iPads can't do...
@@rafaelericson I think this is why Apple states iPad is a companion to a Mac.
Even though we iPad users want to daily drive and only use an iPad
@rafaelericson I use it with Adobe apps and it links to the Apple monitor as well, which is another aspect I like it for. I draw, and need the real estate of 13" and the IOS for the apps
I'm using an M1 iPad and don't see any reason to upgrade yet. I use it every day for watching TV/movies, a few games and Procreate. I love the Apple ecosystem where everything is synced together but don't really use the iPad for any 'pro' features and agree that it's definitely not a 'pro' model yet. Love your videos and your honesty about the products!
Yup! I am with you there, if I wasn’t making these reviews I’d probably just be on the M1 iPad Pro or maybe even the Air.
And thank you 🥰

I was fouled by Apple and I much regret my iPad M4 Pro purchase. iPad OS is a joke… This is my worst Apple purchase ever…
….girl what????

I make music. Got 16gb ram m2 and i'd like it to be more powerfull than that

Oh you’re the best, thank you so much!
Plus one! I’ve been unsubscribing from bland tech channels for a while because this one is so good.

Do you want Mac OS on the iPad?
I tend to agree! It feels like iPadOS and iOS are stuck in the mid 2000’s

It’s certainly the way I thought Apple were going with the iPad. they even used to say ‘this is your next computer’ but I guess they really don’t want to mess up those MacBook sales 😉
I got rid of my surface pro 8 LTE (business version) it just doesn’t cut it.
I have the new Pro13 inch on the way. I know I won't use a lot of the features right away, but it's more for future proofing. I don't plan on buying another one for at least 5 more years. My old iPad (6th generation) from 2018 was showing it's age. Thanks for your honesty
I definitely see the point on longevity. I talked about this in my recent video too. Have a great weekend! ruclips.net/video/tOZkTgEZgNg/видео.html
Finally, an honest iPad review from someone that isn’t worried about what Apple thinks. I recently bought a new 11 inch iPad Pro 2022 M2, M4 would have been overkill also got £200 discount. Great video Alex
Will you please differentiate the apple ipad pro against the apple iphone 16 pro. Thank you.
This was truly honest, and the only way to say it. The iPad Pro lost the sense for 90% of buyers long time ago...
Thank you. yes, it's a shame as I truly love the device as a concept and for what it could be. I hope Apple comes to its senses soon and just let developers take it to the next level
How much processing power does anyone really need for Netflix?
For Netflix and others video watching activities, I prefer my Tab S9 Ultra from far !
lol exactly!

Apple has pulled iPadOS 18 from the M4 iPad Pro after several users reported that their devices were bricked upon beginning the install of the update.
Good review mate..... still waiting for your pixel 9 Pro XL review 😅
As soon as possible, thank you so much! I tend to buy the Pixel after everyone. I invested a lot of time and effort in the last 3-4 years on Pixel but didn’t see much of a return, sadly. But I will definitely review it as I love Pixels

I really like it for a tablet experience… But these things really hurts:
-I really hate the file management system, why can’t an app access the files on my iPad without moving it to it’s app specific folder…?? (I don’t have any complaints about the files app though, It does what it’s supposed to)
-I would really like it to have a robust app side loading support, similar to MacOS…(Not what we have right now, we still need a third party AppStore to sideload, and still the app has to comply with Apple’s own AppStore policy, In the end it’s just an extension to the Apple’s AppStore)
-Why still to this day we don’t have a proper firewall system on iPadOS..
I have the first iPad Pro and the 3rd one…the first one has such a better battery life than i am not going to upgrade to new one until they improve that part.
Thank you as always Alex 😊
My pleasure! Hope you are enjoying the long weekend Mary, and hopefully managed to take a break 🙏🏼
Price is the problem, if they weren’t charging over macbook pricing for ipad pro with magic keyboard I don’t believe it would be such an issue, but with that combination and price no reason it couldn’t dual boot to mac os
Trading in my M4 iPad and 14 Pro for the iPhone 16 Pro max as soon as it comes out. iPad is still just an extra large iPhone, and a bit of a let down.
Can't blame you...
Which is all that is needed for someone to be a “professional”
As a professional DJ I can perform using the iPad.
I do wish RUclipsrs were more honest to their audiences in saying “yes this isn’t pro for me, but I’m just one use case”
@@AlexGTech Perfect position!
The only con has my M1 iPad pro 12.9 is that I can’t run Musescore and I must switch to my desktop device (an old 2011 iMac that runs perfectly).

I hope they are true game changers!
S9 ultra or M4 iPad which one would you choose? (to live with for 5 years without a change)
I think it all depends on your ecosystem.
I’d also wait for the s10 ultra before making final decision
If you are going to use primarly for watching content, get the TAB Ultra, there is no comparison for that, its also OLED screen and super bright. Now, if you have an iPhone, Mac and so on, then get the iPad.
Get the iPad. Better app support
Until then, The M2 handles everything I throw at it.

going to replace Evernote with Journal once it's ready for iPad. I hate needing to subscribe.
They're saving Journal for the iPad so they have a keynote-worthy addition to iPadOS19. 🤷🏼♂ (Said as an iPad fan who wishes for more.)
I was shocked at how bad the matte screen is
I've had enough of my iPad pro. I barely use it. I use my tab ultra and laptop instead.
When I do use my iPad I generally hate it
Out of all reviews and actually owning one, I say it's the opposite. It's absolutely outrageously good.❤
It’s definitely got strong points and for the right use, it can be all you need.
But I don’t see as much criticism of Samsung over that and their top models are pretty expensive as well.
iPadOS is the ultimate limitation given how versatile the Macintosh OS is
Apple could make iPadOS almost as versatile, but but iPad Pro does not need macOS on it.

I’m not buying an iPad Pro until it runs macOS. I’ve had two and sold them. It’s a waste of money currently strictly because of software.
You'll never buy an ipad then
What app is that at 00:42?
Majority of people (including myself) sometimes make the mistake of ordering for longevity but actually over spend on upgrades that they won't ever need
hi is it worth buying ipad for accounting/excel sheets /monthly planning and budgeting ? and can you transfer file types from ipad to windows? thanks
You didn’t have to BUY the new iPad to see what was new or “same old.” You could have just looked at iPadOS features on the Apple website.
@@FibonacciWhale sure. But that would have been a pretty hard video to make 😉
I feel that if Apple allow full version of Pages, Keynote, and Numbers (Microsoft Office as well) to be installed in the pro iPads, the sale of iPads will skyrocket. Many of us have to choose laptops for office works instead of iPad due to this exact reason.
iPads are selling well without these gimmicks.
Also the IPad Air M2 is like having a Hayabusa in a 20 km/h on a muddy road..😂
It would look great though 😅 Just like the iPad
That's why I have the Samsung tab s9 it's way more fun to use w no limitations and uses it's full potential
I am still rocking my iPad Mini 6, portability beats power for me. M4 iPad Pro is a waste of money for my use case
so tempted by the Mini! Having used the Fold 4, 5 and now 6 I really like that mini tablet size
Not in my case power over portability and iPad Pro is the best is the best there was and the best ever will be.
Video sooooo crispy 👌
Alex, I’m an artist, and would be interested to learning about that color wheel (you tapped the screen, and it appeared in the upper left corner - which you were than able to rotate - and select a color) we saw you using in this video. I’d not seen that before. Where can I get that ?
hi there, I love that app! It's Concepts, been using it on both iPadOS and Android for a while. There is a subscription but the free version is pretty decent already
@@AlexGTech Thank you !
@@AlexGTech totally agree, it will be my last purchase.
What you said in 6:10 is perfect!
Can you get the Ai to delete email which you say is just junk in bulk?
Learning the capabilities of the iPad is the frustrating thing for me. I thought going to Applestore and their lessons but that just has never happened. Learning from RUclips I am also a failure except what having a particular problem which mostly is cleared up by RUclips videos and if not Applestore are great at resolving issues
But it’s frustrating to buy something that I can learn and expand but not to be able to achieve in the UK
Tim: Haha sucker!
yup, he got me! (again 😭)
Well, at least there’s a calculator now 😂
I saw Senna's helmet. I subscribed 😁
Ipados is just rebranded ios btw .. funny how people dont get it...
It certainly feels like a mobile OS. Stage Manager and multi window support is great but personally I'd like to see more, including basic things like a proper file management. I hate trying to find that PDF that I had saved somewhere on the iPad...
Basically buying the iPad Pro is a waste of money. You should just buy the ipad air m2 chip instead
Here’s hoping the next iteration of iPadOS refreshes things a little
I prefer the 11 inch iPad Pro M4 over the 13 inch M4 its small and its easier to carry it around with u
Yes, for most people the Air would be great, and last a few years too
Loving my m4 1tb 13 inch. Loving my games and movies on it
Nice! that display is insane, ngl. What's your go to 2-3 games at the moment?
Honest question, have you tried or look in person how content is displayed in the Tab Ultra from Samsung? Cheers!.
In just love my 11 inch iPad Pro M4 its a amazing device i use my 11 inch iPad Pro M4 more than i use my 11 inch iPad Pro M1
I switched from the ipad pro a12z….to m4…..same shit for my use lmao…
Thank you Alex.
Thanks mate!! Good start to the season for both of us ⚽️⚽️🙌🏼
Refreshing to come across a real iPad user that understands the dichotomy of iOS/PadOS and MacOS… From our point of view the only real disappointment of the new iPad Pros was the camera regression. The Vision Pro and the iPhone 15/ 16 Pro models are all capable of Spatial Capture, even the base model iPhone 16’s can, but the iPad Pro’s with an M4 chip cannot…
Now, we have to wait until next year, when they may finally draw parody with the other PRO devices in that area, hopefully, huge oversight in our opinion… A real industry game changer would be an iPad Mini Pro that has the camera lens orientation of the iPhone 16 Pro with the same processor, or even an M1, or maybe M2…
Until then the 2018 iPad Pro 11” will have to suffice…
🤔
Good video as always
Thanks again! Appreciate the comment. Have a great week ahead 🙏🏼
Really regret buying it 😢
After watching this, I’m not sure the iPad is for you. You know there are laptops out there with touch and pen capabilities, right?
I confrim Ipad is definitely not the tool for video editing.
…as you know mate…I’m a fan!
Thanks mate. What about the iPad?
@@AlexGTech ha ha 🤣
