Jayco Kiwi 17a Ceiling Repair! Cheap & Easy Method

- Опубликовано: 15 июн 2019
- The renovations on our little Jayco Kiwi continue! When we bought the camper in the fall of 2018 there was significant water damage to the ceiling. I didn't want to tear out the entire ceiling but did want a neat and clean finish for the damaged area.
By using vinyl soffit material the repair went pretty fast, was relatively cheap (about $50) and came out great. Thanks for taking a look!
Love the idea, cheap easy, last forever, water proof material, zero maintenance, easy to clean, and looks good!
My wife and I just bought a used one exactly like this. It needs a little TLC, so thanks for posting!
Thank You for sharing. It’s ver helpful to see what others have done to repair there RV’s especially the older ones that no longer. Sell replacement parts. You definitely have to get creative. Your ceiling looks Really Nice 👍. I think we are going to do the same :). I’m excited to watch your wall replacement video. Happy Camping!! ⛺️
Ain't you supposed to get the rotting molded stuff out instead of covering it up?
Just bought the same kind of camper with the same problem. Thanks so much for making this great informative video!
I think your idea is great! Covering it up is sometimes the best option, considering that its not a vintage or super expensive trailer. As well if the roof is in good shape (no leaks) that damage was hardly a thing to be concerned about. I might be using this technique on my 1967 Winnebago. Although, this is a collectable vintage rv, so I'm removing the entire ceiling. Happy campin'
Love this idea! I just got a '76 that I knew I'd need to do some ceiling work too! This is what I'm going to do! Looks great and easy to do!
Thanks. A very simple way to cover the ceiling and have it look pretty good.
Great idea!
Thanks. It worked well for us and was a very easy way to make the ceiling look clean and modern.
Super sensible encapsulation! And it looks great. About to embark on wall rebuild and roof overhaul, but looking forward to it a little more after this. Thanks!
Thanks for your comments. Best of luck to you.
WHAT ABOUT THE MOLD?
There is a mold spray you can use. Spray it on heavy leave sit 24 hours and kills all jerms and stops mold from mutations. Then cover up once 100% dry.
Great Idea! Thanks for posting this!
Thanks. It worked out well.
Apparently, you've never heard the old rule: Do it right the first time! Huge mistake not removing the ceiling down to the metal/rubber and cleaning/sanitizing the MOLD !
Brilliant! Thank you for sharing this idea!
The whole reason why I was watching this video is to see what material you used and how you applied it but you didn't show that you showed it after it was already done so this video is kind of useless
How much did it cost you to fix ?
What did you use where can I get it
we are doing this. have been looking for a solutiin to our 69 banner 18 foot
This looks awesome but didn't share the names of any materials you used.
Agree
So you pretty much just covered up the wood rot.... 👌
What is that material called and where can we get it? Looks great!
Thanks. It's vinyl soffit from any large hardware store. Easy, light, snaps together, and a simple way to cover stained or repaired areas. Best of luck.
Does all that vinyl not rattle when the AC runs?
I know if you touch it at all on a porch it squeaks
Not at all. Has worked out very well.
I’m curious why you used J channel if the soffit doesn’t actually slot into the soffit. It would just lay on top of the J channel and create a visible inner gap at the corners this way
Nice video
I have a Viking 17 foot travel trailer and I’m just wondering how much of the soffit did you need for yours? And did you do the entire trailer?
How do you remove the inside cover of the ac?
Did you end up replacing the rotten Luan? the laminate is where most of the roofs strength comes from.
I am attempting to purchase this exact camper from a gentleman on Facebook Marketplace as well. He believes the roof around the A/C is leaking. If that is the case, what would be your recommendation to repair it? Can the A/C be removed from the top easily?
Proske Gaming we just did a roof and ceiling repair on a class a motor home. To remove the ac unit we went from the inside and after removing the interior cover there was a metal cover that bolted to the bottom side of the ac unit up top. Just four bolts then just had to disconnect the wiring. After that the ac unit lifts up. Ac unit had foam cushions on bottom side that stuck to the roof but that’s about it.
Install a split unit on you RV goes on you rear bumper not on you roof the ac idea on the roof is bad wen you driving the wait of the ac bounce up in down till will break soports and crack the roof creating leaks all ways a bad design split units change all that
What state are you in if you don't mind me ask I need my roof done I'm in texas
Very nice!
Thank you. It came out very well.
Did you use soffit siding or regular siding with j channel
Soffit siding.
I ges that this is vinyl siding glue on the ceilings? Not good humedity will release that glue in time
What you think he should of used in just curious because I would like to do the same but would want it to last
@@pierrexavier4983 nails or screws in the slots of vinyl siding.
Anyone know where I can find what he used- going crazy not finding on Amazon
You would need to find a vinyl siding distributor in your area, the J channel and soffit pieces are 12’ long FYI, also I would look into using a beaded soffit, it’s a shallower profile and replicates bead board and I think it would be better for an interior, I don’t recommend trying to glue this product to a ceiling though, with expansion and contraction of vinyl it’s going to work its way loose in time, you will need to fasten it so that it can move, that’s what the nail slots are for. I would use some screws and just don’t over tighten them. Hope this helps!
Go to Home Depot and just buy a panel they have it there with different designs
Lowes- house siding. Just rip out the molded wood but before you do that solve the roof water problem.
I have a 2003 Kiwi 17A. Due to some water issues I have had to replace the floor. Do you have any images or video of the area under the seats? Due to family illnesses it has been a while since I took things apart. Thanks for posting your videos and hope your enjoying your trailer!
Hi Joseph. I understand delays in renovations, sorry to hear that. I don't have any photos that really show those areas. We did tear out a lot of the floor that was water damaged farther back and then rebuilt some of the supports. We then just used 3/8 plywood for new flooring. Our renovation is more workmanlike and built for strength and usability rather than a real pretty remodel. Although it has come together pretty well. Still have lots to do. Best of luck to you.
Is the ceiling siding? I never heard you specify
He said it was vinyl soffit
What is the name of the material that you used to cover the ceiling. Where did you find it.?
Vinyl soffit. Any hardware store has it.
So you need to install j channels then add the vinyls soffit? Refinishing retro camper and like this idea.
well done
