Upgraded the DR650 two weeks ago with the billetron pro (replacing legacy lectron). Fantastic upgrade.

Hey Josh, Yes, it may help with elevation changes and may even be slightly fuel efficient but I honestly don't think that this is an upgrade. The FCR 39 pumper carb once jetted correctly is the best option. The Suzuki engineers know what their doing. Mine was the best throttle feel from any fuel injected bike I’ve had. If the lectron was a goer, the thumpertalk DRZ Gurus would have been all over it.

I agree with you but this newer lectron carb has a metering rod witch is like the accelerator and I’ve hard a lot of people says it’s at or better than fcr39
I have knock off 39mx on my 434 big bore drz that honestly works amazing. But I’m going to try this new lectron pro

seems like it has significantly less power than a standard drz400e which you would expect with a smaller carb that doesn't have an accelerator pump.
the vacuum port on the inlet is for the coast enrichener it cools the piston and exhaust valves on deceleration, stops exhaust popping and improves initial throttle response from closed throttle deceleration.
might be a slight improvement over the s model mikuni bsr36mm but it's not an upgrade over the fcr39mm which is the benchmark that other carbs are measured against.

@@6226superhurricane is there any testing to back this up at all? I admit I was skeptical with it but my initial feel of it honestly feels like a slight gain over my fcr. Minimal but noticeable, and feels slightly smoother with its delivery as well.

@@_JoshJB_ dyno tests on aus e models from aus based magazine had their brand new 400e at 41hp stock, with a b&b baffle it had 43hp barret exhaust 45hp staintune exhaust with baffle still in was 46hp.
you'd need to put a lectron on a stock brand new e and see if it made 44-45hp to check their claims.
you could put yours on a dyno with both carbs or do some back to back acceleration tests with each carb which would give you an idea but is not sufficient to claim a 4hp increase for the purpose of advertising.
but here's what i think, the throttle on the lectron probably has a shorter pull so you're giving it less throttle at the grip but more at the carb giving an initial impression of more performance.
but to me it seems down on power compared to before.
and i have a drz too so i'm also comparing to that.

@@_JoshJB_ another thing is the electrical connector you unplugged is for the throttle position sensor which changes ignition timing advance depending on rpm.
it won't hurt the bike to have it unplugged but you're also not going to get the the power increase from advancing the ignition timing with rpm. which makes it even more doubtful that the lectron can achieve a 4hp peak power increase over the fcr.

Agree with the above and havingnowned bIkes and been involved woth racing road bikes n cars. Bro dynoed our past swm500rs bikes with fuel mods inj. And Power commander. 51 RWHP and a lot of torque, so without dyno reukts seat of the pants is inaccurate, you also need to confirm fueling by dyno O2 resukts and plug colour or you risk cooking piston n valves of its too lean. The for Carb from my susp and dyno bloke advised of its stock eng. Re no bore changes or comp ratio changes then leave it alone as the for Carb is bloody good. For me the BB kit is the way for more power n torque with correct dyno n jetting.
FYI I've got a new drz400e with barret pipe and funnel web filter, I'm not convinced it makes 45HP, possible but it's up hi, does not have the torque of the 500, No surprise, but an excellent light adv bike and long lived. Hope you get some results.

The keihin fcr is the best carb ever fitted to a motorcycle. I do up old bikes and source these carbs because they are the best. That decel popping would be enough for me to bin the lectron. Suzuki did their homework and fitted correct carb at the factory. Not always the case. But on the drz they made the best possible choice.

I missed if you said what size it is. I know Lectron has added something similar to the FCR...the accelerator pump. I have over 55,000 on my 2011 and runs and looks better than new. Just picked up an old 03 E model.....for $500 .....yeah i know, a steel. But it has no engine.....still a deal and a half. The wheels are worth that. Going to build a show SM out of it since E's dont have a subframe under the rear fender to carry weight. So am planning on getting an engine of coarse, but then im really thinking hard about getting one of these. Not for the SM. But ofe my S. And take out ny FCR and using that for the SM. As i ride our BDR's we have here in the USA. They can be 2000 foot level and go up to over 13,000 foot level. I literally hate my FCR for these rides. Have to adjust it at every hill top abd at the valleys. It get old really fast. So really would like one for the S.

Great vid as always Josh. Can't say I'm a massive fan of the deacceleration popping though. That would annoy me. Be good to see your follow up vid once you've had in on for a while.

Keen to see what you think of it after a proper ride on it. I've looked in to these carbs before for my bike and was really unsure on if it was a necessary mod to do or if i should just try to revive the fcr carb I have currently. But with the potential for a efi version of the 400 coming next year Im not sure if I should just be saving up for the potential of a new bike next year.

Why would Suzuki even offer an S model in Australia?

Sorry, it just doesn't compute. Maybe I'm missing something.
So the Aussie E and S models both have all the parts to be street legal, but the S is detuned and has a Mikuni carb instead of the FCR of the E.
Seems like you'd have to get a big discount to justify buying the S model.
