The thing with Alice in Wonderland is that you never know if the characters she encounters are threatening or helping ? You can't apply logic to their actions, they don't obey the same rules as Alice !!
Exactly! I remember being always on edge while watching this movie as a child
Scared me as a child. Only saw once. 🇬🇧😮
this movie creeped me out as a child even tho my sister was fascinated. I think exactly for this reason... there's no logic to this world. It's just seems like different forms of insanity bottled into various characters.
This movie actually terrified me as a child, but can't deny the fact that it facinated me also..
Having grown up on Disney, it's interesting to see adults who have never seen certain ones. I've seen maybe 3 girls who have never seen Disney's Cinderella for instance, and it's fascinating to see their takes on it.
"How is a raven like a writing desk?"
"Poe wrote on both."
Because it can produce a few notes. Particularly if its name is Lewis Carroll. The answer lies in the quill: both may be penned, but they can never truly be captive.
Oh wow!! Now I feel very dumb for not figuring it out long time ago.
In France, it translate " Why a raven look like a grain of salt ? "
They both have Wings
Nevermore
Pans Labyrinth and Spirited Away are must watches! I consider them to be spiritual successors to this movie!
They definitely need to watch pans labyrinth. So fucking creepy
Wait have they not seen spirited away? That is blasphemy on a whole new level. Best movie ever made.
@@mattyt3625 And by Guillermo Del Toro, whose films are always brilliant and with such depth(right down to the architecture and the posters on the walls(example:Golden Army has an in depth look at the Troll Market in the special features, down to where there are menu's that are missing children posters(since trolls eat kids).
@@phousefilms wow I didn't pick that up in the troll market. It did feel kinda light from what I remember but that's awesome. Wish it was explored more.
@@phousefilms love Del Toro, been thinking lately if the Hellraiser movies ever got remade that Del Toro would be perfect for the job
"They jumped me....Broke my watch....put mustard in it...."
But if you recall, they put everything BUT mustard in it. ^_^
MUSTARD!!!????
......Now let's not be silly!!!
LEMON!!!! Now that's Diff-er-rent!
I always thought the lesson was: "Be careful what you wish for"
The world she created wasn't as amazing as she thought it would be... Basically you need logic and structure, not just creativity. Hense the line about some some of the best books don't have any pictures..
An underrated gem. The great Kathryn Beaumont who played Alice (and Wendy in 'Peter Pan') is still around.
And she has played Alice and Wendy to this day! She played them In the KH games too!
@@thobat14 really ?
What a pleasant surprise~ More Disney classics would be cool
"Her attitude is..inevitable kidnapping" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
😭💀💀
“Why is a raven like a writing desk?: Because they both have inky quills and can produce a few notes, tho they are very flat; and it is nevar put with the wrong end in front” -Lewis Carroll.
Though of course, in-universe there’s not intended to be an answer. Since when Alice asks why the mad hatter says “I haven’t the slightest idea”, showing that it’s just more delightful nonsense.
Also, Alice in Wonderland wasn’t made for kids in the 50s. It was made for kids in 1865 and then Disney made an animated adaptation in the 50s. Most of the trippy imagery was borrowed from the book.
The answer is because Edgar Allen Poe wrote on both. The answer you gave was Carrol's joke answer!
You all need to just, make a spreadsheet of everyone's name & the list of classic/beloved Disney movies (so that way something like Mary Poppins can be on the list! and not just purely animation movies)
And from there you choose the movies that the least amount of people have seen!
:D
Damn good idea
This is a really cool surprise reaction. I would really, really love for you guys to react to Disney classics (or other classics). It's something really different that I haven't seen from other reaction channels.
So glad to see you enjoy this classic with fresh eyes! As with all versions of "Wonderland" it combines characters from that book and "Alice Through the Looking Glass".
when i was a kid i used to hate this movie but also had a really weird fascination with it, so i could repeatedly watch it being uncomfortable the whole time
This was fun, would love to see more Disney movie reactions!
Yessss
Few facts about this story.
The author used to be a professor at a high profile university in England. He met a lady through his job and she had two younger sisters. I don’t know if they ever married, but one day he was hanging out with all three of them when the youngest girl asked him to tell her a story. So off the top of his head, he started telling the story of Alice in Wonderland. When word picked up about his imaginary story, other professors were encouraging him to write on it more. So he did. He based Alice off of his gf’s youngest sister & his own gf was the inspiration for Alice’s sister.
Being a high profile professor, Lewis Carrol, the author, had been invited to many political events & knew a lot of higher society people. It’s been speculated for years about the political undertones of this story. The Walrus and the Carpenter represents how the working class does all the work while the rich lie to them and steal all the rewards. The tweedle Twins represents Alice’s conscious and the Caterpillar represents her trying to understand the logic behind this whole world. The Flower Garden represents the sort of gossiping situations a young girl would face against older women of society, the DoDo bird represents how stupid politicians can be. The scene where the DoDo is on the beach up on a rock and the other animals are running around drying off then get wet again represents how politicians lie to people and how people go along with it, even though it doesn’t make any sense. The March Hare & Mad Hatter don’t exactly have a symbolism, but many who studied the book think they both represent how men treat young girls. The white rabbit represents Alice’s subconscious.
Now the Queen of Hearts almost got Lewis Carol arrested. Especially with the timing of the character. The character of the Queen of Hearts came around AFTER Lewis Carol met the Queen of England, and many believe he based that character off of her. But the Queen of Hearts entire sequence represents how unfair and heartless rulers are. They show unfair court systems and how rulers can change the courts to how they desire. Kinda like how rich people get away with so much crime.
I do like how the entire end chase scene breaks it down as the dream becoming a nightmare too.
There’s also a theory that the Cheshire Cat set Alice up to be murdered.
This is such a nice surprise!!! As a kid I was shown all the Disney animations, and we had most of them on VHS. Alice in Wonderland, however, always scared the bejeesus out of me. I was petrified of Tweedle-Dum and Tweedle-Dee, and the Queen of Hearts. Now I can enjoy the weirdness :)
Don’t. Step. On. The Momrats. That and the vultures surprised and freaked me a little
Me I was a little scary by the Cheshire Cat when he doesn't smile after laughting and disappear after that but at the same time, I loved it.
His french voice actor is dead last year 😔
Same however as I started growing up it became my favorite movie
LMAO rana got so defensive for cinderella love that for her
2:34 She appreciates good shoes, wearing them on the other hand... :p
I love that you're watching alice in wonderland. It was the first book I ever read and as a weird kid I felt so related to the main character and the way she reacted to the world around her. Best animated feature film to me.
In regards the the raven riddle, my copy of the book begins with a preface by Carroll as follows:
To The
EIGHTY-SIXTH THOUSAND
Enquiries have been so often addressed to me, as to whether any answer to the Hatter’s Riddle can be imagined, that I may as well put on record here what seems to me to be a fairly appropriate answer, viz. “Because it can produce a few notes, though they are very flat; and it is nevar put with the wrong end in front!” This, however, is merely an after-thought: the Riddle, as originally invented, had no answer at all.
For the Alex Hirsch thing, there’s an ongoing Disney Show called “The Owl House” and Hirsch is a VA on it so who knows if Disney would work with him as a writer again but it’s not out of the question.
07:47 "No, take the money." - Bill Oddie
10:24 "The time has crumbs!"
21:04 "You're clumsing it!"
26:25 "All, put his head!"
Oooh yes older Disney reactions! I too love how the older movies were animated :)
OMG just saw the thumbnail and had a throwback, this is a classic and probably gave many children anxiety issues hahaha
This film hits differently as an adult. You guys should definitely do a Fantasia reaction.
Walt Disney didn’t intentionally make children’s movies. He wanted to make movies/art that he would want to see.
Exactly. He never intended for his movies to be for kids or for adults. It was art and anyone could watch it if they wanted to
If you guys decide to more reactions to Disney movies, I suggest Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Robin Hood and The Black Cauldron.
I honestly like the live action Alice in Wonderland films. They capture the weirdness of Lewis Carrol's work quite well.
I liked the first TB film fine, the second one was meh to me(though that's my personal opinion)
Have you ever seen, "Alice"? That movie gave me nightmares as a kid
Yes I like those too, especially the first one.
i deeply hate the tim burton films. i love tim burton, but those films are his worst. they never captured the spirit, idea and wonder that made 'Alice's adventures in wondeland' and 'Thru the looking glass' so wonderful and unique. the books were trippy and a journey thru madness and a world of nonsense and a childlike experience, they're not stupid bland war movies and not stupid bland time travel movies.
My childhood! I remember watching this dozens of times, and calling the waning moon Smiling Cat. Only those who watched the movie will understand.
He scared me when he doesn't smile after laughting.
His french voice actor is dead last year. A big loss for the french Disney voice act
Chris drops a "Golden Girls" refrence at 13:00. A man of class.
I loved that! 🎉
Old Disney animations give me a "weird vibe" every time I see and I love it
Now when I watch it as an adult, I realize the caterpillar and the Cheshire Cat are the only smart persons of Wonderland because they're the only ones who helped Alice.
I mean, the caterpillar helps her to find a way to be taller and the Cheshire Cat guide her to the Mad Hatter and the March Hare where she finds the rabbit and when he sends her to the queen of hearts, it helps her to awake herself
Watch Disneys The Chronicles of Narnia. The movies are amazing you would Love them 😍😍
This is truly a beautiful film.
It will always be a classic.
🐇🐈🐛🍵🎩👸♠️♣️♥️♦️
You need to read the book by Lewis Carroll "Alice in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass" I actually took an English Literature class and we covered the symbolism of the story. It was an amazing course.
Remember, the book was written during the reign of Queen Victoria in England, who reigned over an Empire for a very long time. (Her husband Albert was secondary -- just a Prince Consort.) So there were models for powerful women then. Also... this was NOT a commercially successful movie for Disney, as it turned out, and he was embarrassed about it, and didn't rerelease it to theaters every few years, as he did with his popular animated movies. It's much more highly regarded now, I think. (I love it, myself!)
I’ve had nightmares about that oyster scene 😰
Me, I was a little afraid by the Cheshire Cat when he doesn't smile after laughting but at the same time I like him.
His french voice actor is dead last year 😔
Danny DeVito as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb: It's Always Sunny in Wonderland.
I would love a full series of reactions for all the old Disney classics like this. Alice in Wonderland and 101 Dalmatians are tied for my favorite for different reasons but Dalmatians is super underrated and just amazingly crafted for it’s time.
OhGuys, that was a pleasant surprise! Please watch Peter Pan, it's one of the top Disney classics of all time, even the sequel is good!!!
BTW, the voice actress for Alice is the same for Wendy, and she does a great job!!!
And the White Rabbit is Smee.
@@pamelawilliams3144 Yes! He is soo good
Just watch out for the one racist scene is all I'll say on THAT.
No computers or anything easy about animating these films back in the day, they had paper, pencils, paint and thousands of slips of cellophane (aka what they painted the characters on), and they created absolutely visually stunning remarkably done movies.
Yes, I saw pictures on Internet and showed it at children I babysitted. They were impressed
This was delightful! I'd also love for you to react to some classic Don Bluth animations like The Secret of NIMH
Fun fact the Harsh Hair’s voice is found in several old Disney films, including Casey Jones, while The Hatter is none other than legendary comedian Ed Wyn, the Cheshire Cat is Winnie the Pooh himself, and Alice was supposedly largely modeled after one of Walts own daughters and at the time of her creation was considered a princess prior to modern Disney making rules for who could and couldn’t be a princess.
Would love to see more animated movies reactions like these! This was a nice surprise!
OMG WHAT A PLEASANT SURPRISE!!! This is my favorite Disney animation besides The Hunchback of Notre Dame 💖💖💖💖💖
A raven is like a writing desk because Edgar Allen Poe wrote on both.
At least, that's my favorite answer!
Alice in Wonderland kinda scared me as a kid. When I've seen the Tim Burton one, I loved it but still a bit weird and scary. Since I was able to handle the Tim Burton ones, I thought it's time to re-watch the animated film again... But, apparently, it still scares me for some reason 🤣
I love this movie but honestly this makes me wanna go play Alice madness returns again lol
Kinda surprised you guys are reacting to this. Pleasantly surprised.
I've read the book too. Lewis Carrol suggests an answer for why a raven is like a writing desk: Both produce long notes!
I got excited thinking they were gonna watch Alice in Borderlands, turns out it was just Alice in Wonderland xD
Hurts that none of the popular reactors are watching it. :(
@@BlvdBrawlr Right? It's such a good show!
Yeah like most people have said, the "trippy stuff" comes straight from the book 😅 I absolutely adore Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Alice through the looking glass, especially the illustrations ❤
There are some live-action TV versions. My favorites are an early 80s version and the late 90s version with Tina Marjarino. Both were filled with various famous people.
Amazing!! can't wait for your JUNGLE BOOK:D One of my favs!!!
next~ alice in borderland, think you guys will like it
I saw the thumbnail as soon as I recieved the notification. I'm so glad you guys reacted to a classic Disney movie. I hope you react to Pinocchio next. P.S. I'm thinking about becoming a Normies Patron by September 😁
Why is a raven like a writing desk?
Because Mystique is a shapeshifter.
"(The Queen of Hearts) looks like Fred Flintstone..."
Interestingly, Verna Felton, who voiced the Queen, was the voice of Fred Flintstone's mother-in-law.
A Very Merry Unbirthday to Y’all 🤩🥳
This is my alltime fave classic...💙
I'd love to see your reactions to the Liveaction films too
Im late and I loved that they reacted to this classic animation!! Pls do the other ones as well. ✨🔥
You should check out the 1985 version starring Natalie Gregory. It was made for TV as a two-parter. It follow the book a lot more closely than most versions, and it has a huge star-studded cast.
I was thinking the same thing. I remember watching that when I was a kid and the jabberwocky scared me so bad.
I do not understand how people could miss out on so many classic Disney movies when they were younger
I am surprised and excited that y'all are going down the older movie rabbit hole.
It always blows my mind seeing people who've never seen classic Disney films.
This is awesome! Hope y'all will react to more Disney classics
I love you guys trying to make sense of this…
I always thought the crescent moon was the Cheshire Cat when I was little. And I always thought he was following me while in the car and I’d see the moon from the car window.😂
Alice in Wonderland is pure fantasy/literary nonsense - the story is a simple representation of a person's mind exploring social norms and etiquette and realising the complexity, the surreal and and the complete absurdity of certain social fallacies... it's all complete chaos and insanity... and yet every thing Alice encounters always seems to be presenting her with or at least prompting her to think in new ways about the many social rules and behaviours we expect....
The story is meaningful and symbolic but like any great dream - the purpose and exact meaning is extremely hard to pin-point, yet it can't be completely random as somehow the story and its characters have stuck with people for so long - so like any great dream - it may be completely surreal and random... however there is some kind of special logic at work that makes this particular story extremely iconic and memorable.
Great reactions!
It isn't random and there is no logic. It is Nonsense, that is the opposite of logic.
Sterling Holloway the voice of the Cheshire Cat previously played the Frog in the 1933 Paramount version with Cary Grant, W C Fields and Gary Cooper.
That's cool that you knew the songs
WOW I'm surprised you guys still have your childhood memories review your great cartoon movies when you guys were kids
That movie selection random af 😂
This is one of my fave movies. Loved it since I was little. I can recite the poems and such as well. 🤣👍
Loved the reaction... I hope you guys do more old Disney movies 😍
the adult perspective on this film is that Alice was high as fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck, must've been something in those daisies, or Lewis Carroll's daisies...
I do think most of the 2D era of Disney movies do feel like they just wanted to flex on the advances of animation
I would love to see you react to Tim Burton's Live-Action Alice In Wonderland. It's quite darker and at times more realistic but equally insane and the effects were amazing!!!
Hope for more Disney reactions🥰🥰🥰
Omg I'm so happy you did this reaction 😍😍😍😍😍😍🤌🏽
You guys should definitely watch more classic Disney movies. This is awesome!
Dude disappeared like the Cheshire cat lol
After all the crazy shit that Mad Hatter put into that watch, calling mustard too silly is the funniest thing in the world. Like everything was perfectly acceptable but for some reason Mustard crosses the line lol
My sister and I loved this line. Sometimes, we acted it after watching the film
Cuz mustard would ruin the taste! Who puts Mustard in Tea? Let's not be Silly! Now Lemon- that's Diff-er-rent!
@@MrParkerman6 But he's putting it into pocketwatch... not tea lol
I gew up during the 90's and loved those disney movies, but my mom rented these old disney movies from the library and it brings back good memories for me. I loved your reaction to this. Please please say you'll do the other classic movies like Snow White, Jungle Book, and Lady and the Tramp. Or best of all, Fantasia. I love your reaction vids in general but this made my day. and my unbirthday.
U guys gotta do disney reactions more often omfg
Lewis Carrol cropped up whilst I was doing my maths degree and I thought ahh okay the wacky mind makes sense now 😂😂😂
Alice in Wonderland is just so iconic! Though Alice's original dress from the illustrations was yellow, the color of madness in victorian times, and mad as a hatter came from the fact that hatters would use felt made with mercury a lot. (accidentally poisoning themselves and driving them nuts)
Extra Info: The man who shot John Wilks Booth was suppose to take him alive, but he had been a hatter.
WAsnt he also a fanatic who castrated himself for sleeping with a hooker?
@@agerard6297 I think he was only solicited by hookers but yes.
Please do more disney reactions! This was great!
I love this omg!!!
Not even a minute in a Nahid cappin already.
oh my god the scene with the crazy rabbit halving his cup to have half a cup of tea reminded me- I once dropped this cheap dollar store round porcelain cup and half of it just fuckin' EXPLODED but it left the other half perfectly unharmed and almost perfectly straight; Just like in this movie!
I need to find that thing, I'm sure I kept it somewhere in a box but it needs to be put on a shelf.
Loved this reaction! You should react to more Disney (or Pixar) movies you haven’t seen yet!😍🤩
Do Peter Pan and then Peter Pan: Return to Neverland
Like how have none of u seen this before?!?!? Blows my mind
Have you seen Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron?
The movie that answers the immortal question "What if we just did like, ALL THE DRUGS?!?"
I recommend y'all to watch more Anime Movies like I Want to Eat Your Pancreas, Graveyard of the Flies, and Five Centimetres Apart!!
I love it
I love it
The Oyster kids being eaten is the darkest thing in a kids movie ever.
Great movie and reaction. I saw this as a kid and some of the things were definitely scary and some went right over my head (like the baby oysters), but I think watching it as a kid, I just kind of rolled with it because it's basically pure imagination. I was along for the ride. Watching it as an adult was definitely a different experience for me. Pretty wild stuff!
There used to be a nighttime event at California Adventure called the Mad T Party. It wasn’t exactly a place to explore but more of a concert experience where they played a lot of EDM music and you could dance to it. Unfortunately it’s no longer there since they change their different events and attractions to keep frequent visitors interested.
