Hey guys! This build isn't viable for the 1.0 update. It'll collapse if bugs break the stairs. Check out the new Fortified Welp Can base build instead. It has better support in case of raids. Thanks!
Hey Jam, I've been playing again, and I've been based so far in the Welp can. With the changes since 1.0 this base is actually fairly viable again. The entrance stairs are a vulnerability but lining them with pebblet half or full foundations will buff it enough. I use that method on the current build and I have withstood mosquito and black ant raids and random attacks from wolf spiders. They made some changes in can collision/hit box/ whatever they call it so getting it set up is a little more fiddly and I just build an enclosed entryway, but the core concept is still solid.
I've built this exact layout as best I could, and it works great. Only issue I've had is the Wolf Spiders nearby damaging the door, and jamcurrently's build is from an older version so things don't snap in the same position as mine. Fixes for both were palisade walls/doors with spike traps and half-floors, respectively.
I have been considering to buy this game and really love base building in survival games, so I looked for Videos. I think your build looks absolutely amazing, and I can see I would have a lot of fun with the building in this game. Thank you so much for the inspiration!
A can would make a great starter base. I would go that route if you did wanna play the game. Because it takes a while to unlock all the cool buleprints for building. Like curved parts, ladders, spiral stairs, more sturdy walls things like that. So a can will always be an easy space to start and upgrade. Not to mention eventually you will want bases in different parts of the yard. So you can definitely get creative. I have one base on the very top of the hedge from the stick thats up there. I can see anywhere from there. Also have a bunch of ziplines and "elevators" built with trampolines. All which are in Survival mode without any mods or damage reductuons. Its one of my favorite games to chill and play. But it is challenging. Get good at blocking attacks and use your in game buffs. And you will have a blast.
I've had my main base on top of the welp can since a little after the game released on game pass, need to throw up a vid of it at some point. I've got a spiral root gong through the center of the base and it looks epic. (on survival tho)
Not gonna copy the base build but its quite an amazing build none the less. You made that a way more effective build then i woulda thought it could be haha
Well logically speaking so long as the can is on stable ground and can be secured to prevent it from moving it would be an easily fortified area for immediate survival and act as a bunker/warehouse once a better long term base is built.
Well that's a really cute build, definetely efficient and the kind of inspo I was looking for. I wanting to see some ideas of what was possible in terms of building in the game. Good job ! I'm sad I never managed to place a door like myself, it definitely looks better, but oh well...
There's one on the ground that has dirt inside and allows you to build easier but it's over by the far laser tripod and tends to have orb weavers outside but my first thought was that it would be a simple and easy base.
Can bases are awesome. Raids can't damage them and if you're efficient enough with the space, can do almost everything in it. Only thing that should be different is to not use spiral stairs and instead use regular stairs or ladders for max efficiency in space.
Thanks! However, this build is outdated. If bugs break the stairs, it’ll collapse. You can check out the Fortified Welp Can base build. It has better support. 😊
This base design is fan friggin tastic! Very creative! Can you still build in the can like that.. I noticed the vid says its "outdated". Either way.. nice use of resources, big thumbs up and slappin the big red rectangle for more inspiration, as I just started playing this game!
Btw, this build is outdated. If bugs break the stairs, they'll collapse. You can check out the Fortified Welp Can base build for better base support. Thanks, again!
Keep in mind everything crumbles down the moment the stairs (outside) gets destroyed by the several Wolf Spiders that patrol the area. This person is playing in Creative mode, and have not made any videos for Grounded content in Woah! Difficulty. Take what you see here with a grain of salt.
This was built last year way before the Bugs Strike Back update. It’s outdated. Check out the new Fortified Welp Can base build. It has better support and viable for 1.0 update. 😊
@@UberYunSpicyEggroll I see you haven’t seen my other vids. But, yeah, you’re right. Because this was built last year. It’s outdated. Thanks for checking it out. 😊
I love this build! Can you possibly do an updated version for defending against a bug raid since all of that would fall if the stairs were destroyed? Or maybe even a new build for the bugs strike back update? Thanks!
I did something similar but built the base on the fence post and made a bridge to the can and the can is used for all my grass planks and stem storage. Then built a house on top of the can
This build is outdated since the Bugs Strike Back update. If the bugs destroy the first support, they’ll collapse. You need to fortify the entrance and build palisades with strike strips. I’ll try to come up with a new defensible Welp base.
Exactly! I realized the same thing! It was very beautiful and well made, but unfortunately it is supported in a single piece. Too bad you can't support structures at the bottom of the can.
If I were to build this in normal difficulty, it would probably take me about 6 in-game days. Spiders sometimes make it challenging to build near the oak tree. Plus, hauling weed stems take time. 😊
Could get more storage if you turned them the other way. Otherwise I love it and will be making this. Quick question. How does it stand up to bug raids?
Yes. Which is why I always say to build walls or palisades around the Can just in case spiders spot you. I mean, build an outdoor area for gardening and pets then add walls around it. 😊 But I didn’t include it in the vid because the purpose was to show how to make practical Can base interior.
With the new update you can't even build in a can because the building is so inconsistent now. They need to fix the building. Can barely build anywhere now.
I just built this base 1 for 1 yesterday the only real problem is you can’t place the door and if a raid ever occurs all they have to do is break the little scaffolding in the front and it all crumbles. Luckily I had a save and was able to prepare and further fortify my entrance enough.
I just cannot get this to work. I don't know if the problem is me, Xbox, or coding changes, but I cannot even place the grass floor on the porch. Grass floors will work to floor the can interior, but the clover roofs don't take. It's very frustrating. Your build is still awesome.
Hmm.. They probably made some changes. Does it say Location Obstructed? I’ve done this build in my previous saves, and works every time. I’ll check it when I get home.
@@jamcurrently Yeah, it's the obstruction message. Facing the can entrance, it's the last two clover floors on the left. I can place the grass floor if I don't place the door. Thanks for checking this out, I was just bitching into the void but I appreciate you taking the time. This build is awesome and I would love to use it.
@@floweringgoatboy2389 I tried rebuilding this and it did say Location Obstructed on the Can entrance. My guess its blocked due to droplet respawn spot, but I could be wrong. I was able to use the clover roofs as well as the half floors inside the Can. For the entrance, maybe we can do something similar to Calvo Root Beer Can base build with windows beside the door. What do you think?

You need to place palisade around the Can or at least the entrance. If they break the stairs it’ll collapse. With the new Bugs Strike Back update, it’s important to support the structure of the base. Also, place spike strips around the palisade in case you aren’t there to defend. Or you can use mushroom brick wall. I think it’s strong enough against wolf spider. Good luck!

Too bad if your playing whoa mode, after 20 days cycle your items will start to get stolen through the floor and walls because it's ground level and thin walled.
I thought devs removed this feature 😢 Too bad it’s back. Maybe if you place scaffold or clay at the bottom of the Can it’ll prevent them from stealing. Or build an outdoor area then add walls around it including the can. When I started a new game (medium), ants stole my stuff despite my chest being on top of the baseball. They were underneath the ball taking my stuff. Then after building a small base up there, ants would enter, when door is left open. Sometimes I come home and ants are on my front door. But they stopped when I added another door at the stairs.
