Despite losing to the Packers in the playoffs (again), the 49ers have a seemingly bright future ahead with Jeff Garcia, Terrell Owens, and a young but improving defense.
Well no because Jeff Garcia Terrell Owens both wound be gone in a couple of years after this game and they wouldn't do much although in 2002 the made it to the divisional round of the playoffs only to get blown out by the bucs who had a stacked defense that year.
I’m still a little confused after all these as to why this game was played at Lambeau. If memory serves correctly, both teams finished 2nd in their respective divisions, and the 49ers had a better overall record.
Bout to get even better. Niners 90’s revenge tour continues. Think we still owe em, cuz they flat out owned us. I live in Wisconsin, it was torture. It has felt good watching them go at it for the last 10 yrs.
Def could’ve won it. Who knows what happens if Garcia puts more under it and TO scores (no way Williams or McKenzie beat TO to a deeper spot in the end zone) Saw Favre beat us too many times to think that td wins it. Could’ve tho. And TO was right that 4/40 is unacceptable ya gotta get that man the ball.
Steve Mariucci always pissed me off as the Niners head coach. I always felt he never tried that hard against Green Bay because of his love of Farve and the Packers
Packers have had very good receivers since the early 90's, Sterling Sharpe, Antonio Freeman, Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, now Davante Adams.
Back in the good old days. It is one thing Favre will always have over Rodgers, as much as I love AR12, a better record against SF. This next year could get interesting though.
Poor niners. If they played in another division. They are atleast a 2 seed. But being in the west with the rams. Means being a road playoff team. At 12
This was the first playoff game for the 49ers without either Joe Montana or Steve Young starting at QB since 1972.
That is one amazing stat
When John Brodie was the QB. Underrated too.
@@Mark-xl1zeAnd believe it or not, our first MVP quarterback!
72? No lol 81
@@peterlundsten3302 Note he said "First 49ers Playoff Game Without Montana or Young at QB since 1972" Montana quarterbacked the playoffs in 1981
This game was closer than the final score indicates
Darren Sharper. Damn did he live a double life
He won a SB with the Saints and was a HOF candidate before that scandal.

Then Bill Walsh and the Yorks handed the team over to Donahue and it was all downhill from there for a very long time.

@@dallascowboysnumberonefan4863 Anyone would have lost to the Bucs in 02 tbh
Packers continue to dominate the Niners as they win for the 8th time in the last 9 meetings.
49ers could have avoided this trip to Lambeau. They did themselves in with that hideous loss against Dave Campo’s Cowboys
Perhaps but I’m not sure if the 49ers avoid the result
I’m still a little confused after all these as to why this game was played at Lambeau. If memory serves correctly, both teams finished 2nd in their respective divisions, and the 49ers had a better overall record.
These two were so fun to watch play; add Dallas into that mix and we got some real golden football in the 1990s and early 2000s.
Well Dallas was missing from this picture in the early 2000s...but it did feel like the 90s again
@Steve Kovaleski Well we haven’t seen what the 49ers can do against Dallas in the playoffs during the 2010s (let alone this century).
@@JahNuhThunDeeTheOneAndOnlynow we have lol!

Fifth playoff meeting between these teams in 7 years. Wouldn't happen again until 2012.
7 years? Bro the 49ers knocked out the Packers in 1998.
What are you saying? They played each other in 95, 96, 97, 98 and 01. Five times in seven years.
@@Jeremy_theGent I read that as first and not fifth, my mistake.
No problem.
And then the tables would turn 😈
Only time a pare of 12-4 teams played in the wildcard.
2:28 I know the Packers won but if they lost that head scratcher of going for 2 after making it 15-7 would've been heavily scrutinized
Never go for 2 if up by 8. You’re taking the risk of making it a 1 score game instead
49ers' first playoff appearance since 1998. 4:25 smh🤦♂️😡😡😡😡. 49ers should've won this game.
Just like the packers should of won 1998. Rice Fumbled the ball

Even in a different millennium and with a different coach for the Packers, some things just remain the same: Brett Favre still owns the 49ers.
In 2012, 49ers will get their chance.
@@californiaman4000 That was against Aaron Rodgers though
@@JahNuhThunDeeTheOneAndOnlyit’s funny how the 49ers own his successor!

Unfortunately Adams is no longer here, but we got a crop of young new guys who could be fun to watch
I know this is a playoff game but holy cow did you guys read the bottomline from 5:41 to 5:50? Tampa could've had Bill Parcells? Wow
What a missed opportunity...
Apparently, he turned them down in the end, said he was done coaching. One expensive divorce later, he came back to coach the Cowboys.
@@Jeremy_theGent makes sense
Yes, but as a salty die-hard Giants fan, I'm inclined to be slightly bitter about it. 😏
He didn’t want to be seen as taking over from Dungy. Keyshawn was close to him and with the locker room loyal to Dungy it would’ve been tough.
Green Bay will now get a shot at the Rams. Favre vs. Warner? Can’t wait!
Of course all T.O. did was talk about himself after
