I wish that I had heard about squeeze when I was a kid growing up in the 70's and 80's. I probably would have listened to them right along with Blondie and a few others back then but I didnt hear about them until an old friend made me a tape copy of singles 45 and under along with van morrison who I hadnt heard of back in 94.
i have a cd of squeeze's best hits this is one of the songs on it me and my friend always sing - 'never chew a pickle with a little slap and tickle you have to throw the stone to get the pool to ripple' at recess such a fun song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I'm (ahem) 53, I wonder why certain bands were co-opted into the Punk Sub-Culture of the late 70s / early 80s? So, take 1979 / 1980, I was "there" so to speak, so remember this first hand: the Culture, records and discos etc. Yes, we had Sex Pistols, Stranglers, Clash, Damned, Jam, Stiff Little Fingers, Ruts, Sham 69, 999, Lurkers, U.K. Subs, Crass, Dickies, X-Ray Specs, The Adverts, Siouxsie And The Banshees etc, etc around that time. Some (most) were great; - some were rubbish but, I can see how they all "qualified" as Punk Rock (even though some of these just "edged" in)! But, also "permissible" at that time - and, thus, counted in as Punk Rock - were artists such as: The Police, Talking Heads, Elvis Costello And The Atrractions (admittedly, he sort of qualifies due to his 1977 records), Blondie, Ian Dury And The Blockheads, The Pretenders and Squeeze. Yes, I am aware of the pedigree of artists such as Ian Dury, Blondie, Chrissie Hynde and Talking Heads but..... Still. The music these artists produced between 79 and 80 at least was not remotely "Punk Rock" yet we, as kids at the time, accepted it as such and bought it as such! Listening back now, even though most of the output of these artists in the era I've outlined still stands strong.... It's hardly Punk Rock is it?!?
i ♥ this song =]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]

He is still a perfect specimen! AND they are touring again in November. I cannot wait. Brilliant clip and fantastic song. I love them muchos.

And what does that mean to you and your friend? You have to throw the stone to get the pool to ripple?
Can I just say I love the drummer wearing a JC Penney sport coat
They are playing in South Shields on Friday night for the start of the Great North Run weakend.
"You have to throw the stone to get the pool to ripple..."
As always, clever lyrics that set them apart from others.
Nice to see Chris trying to cash in on the prevailing Two Tone vibe of the time with the pork pie hat and a bit of subdued "Nutty Boy" dancing!!
Everyone is miming
Michaela sent me here.
found this, on red vinyl 7" in a skip today
We don't understand your cockney slang "in a skip today", please in the future consider your audience
this always reminded me of wish by NIN.. I mean vice versa ;)

@drszuszitz I'd have to decode that, but it's probably true.
never chew a pickle? You have to throw the stone to get the pool to ripple!
What's the deal with Colonel Saunders back there? He doesn't get any lines in this song?
