One of my all time favourite songs. Goosebumps and tears every time I hear it. I don't know how Glenn Tilbrook sings it without crying. Beautiful lyrics, wonderful tune and amazing guitar solo. Definitely an unsung classic. Sublime.
Always reminds me of my beautiful sadly departed Mam. Although it's been 4years, it's always harder at Christmas, not because I'm religious, just because it's no long till we all lost her. I'm actually crying while I write but this song is just so beautiful anyway.
It's four years since I uploaded this video and I am just glad the song means as much to so many people as it means to me. I am going to see Squeeze play again this weekend and so hope they play this as it was missing from their set last time round. Maxine Barker was obviously a very special person and Chris is right to be so proud of the song (and Glenn too) because Maxine will live on forever through it.
We had this song played at my Mums funeral (16 years ago) at my Dads request. Music was always a fabulous, raging, debate growing up, but we could all - always - agree on Squeeze. Weirdly, I ended up living in Blackheath and doubt I will ever leave. This song brings me great, great comfort. Plus surely it’s illegal to live in SE London and not love Squeeze…!
Apart from the obvious fact that Sir Glenn and Lord Difford of Squeeze are fantastic tunesmiths, they are also top blokes... They always give you the time of day...
Agreed. My favourite guitarists are people like Allan Holdsworth and Greg Howe but Tilbrook's solo in this song is a work of art. He's massively underrated.
I once had a wee next to Chris Difford, half-way through his set in a pub in Greenwich in 1989. Not that I hopped onto the stage to relieve myself....or that he took a piss on stage either. We were both in the bogs. It was a small pub. We didn't speak, but he seemed nice enough. So, other than seeing Bob Geldof on a bike in Chelsea once, that's my claim to fame. I've led a quiet life. Well, nice chatting; I'll be off now.
I met Diana Dors in our village street , well, not exactly meet, her White Rolls Royce driver asked me for directions whilst she looked at me from the back seat......and.....I saw the New Seekers .....from the top deck of the bus whilst on my way to Truro.....and ....Tommy Cooper left his shoes in our local.....and they're still there. .... Anyway...must dash....off to the Bakalite Museum....
@@francispoivre8903 But Chris Difford looks nothing like that guy in The Goonies that claimed Michael Jackson used his toilets. And then he said no, it was a lie, but his sister did.
My mum died in 1992 - when I heard this song when it was released, my heart nearly exploded with sadness and joy. So happy to see you share this with your mum too, Helen x
Difford and Tilbrook are national treasures. Up there amongst the best ever songwriters. Saw them live again in Manchester last Saturday - fantastic performance, and Glen's vocals are terrific. Sadly, did not perform this track but gave an enthusiastic audience so many brilliant numbers - still dancing!!! Long may they run.
i take it back it is one of their greatest songs possibly Chris Diffords greatest lyrics ever not surprised he is proud of this song ,absolutely beautiful
Wonderful song. I have only recently come across Squeeze and I am really impressed with Glen and Chris. I am a Paul Carrack fan and now a Squeeze fan too!
Awww, so sorry about your loss Lisa. I truly understand how it feels losing a loved one, my wife passed while having our daughter, wasn't easy for me though but I'm grateful to God for today 🙏. My deep and sincere condolences, how have you been? 🌺 😢
This song has always been a favourite of mine, Bob Mortimer chose it as one of his desert island discs, it would be one of mine too. Such a beautiful and poignant love song, it always brings a tear to my eyes as I heard it on Bob Mortimers Desert Island Discs heading home after seeing my nephew alive for the last time.
Reading the description - this was played at my father's funeral 10 years ago. It was always one of his (and my mother's) favourite Squeeze songs. It was pretty funny actually, when people heard we were having a Squeeze song played that day, I think a lot of people assumed it would be "Cool for Cats" or something like that. The were taken aback when they heard this, and quite a few people were converted that day.
My favorite Squeeze song from my favorite band my mum passed away in 2001 and when i hear this song i think of her . Looking forward to the gig at the 02 not missed one,xxx
In 1976 rolling Stone magazine difford and tilbrook as the next Lennon and McCartney and to me they were even more so. Was such a pleasure growing up and still with this music being a part of my life.. and by the way they did not appreciate rolling Stone magazine making that comment
Just listening to a recent Squeeze gig on CD, where Glenn Tilbrook says of the previous song ('Bang Bang') "there's a song I didn't think I'd be singing 30 years after it's release..." and then goes on to introduce 'Some Fantastic Place as "... here's a song I did think I'd be singing"... He knows, folks. He knows.
My idea of heaven - Squeeze beautiful lyrics , angelic like vocals , and fabulous musicianship . I applaud you for many great moments in my life listening to your great music Kudos , You amaze me . Many great memories I have off you ! Much thanks
Ive also just watched the bbc doc n came here to remind myself of this beautiful song..so much deeper now i know the back story. The honesty both guys showed during the doc,not only the good times but also the heartbeak and despair, the fights and fallouts and ultimately coming back together speak volumes for them and the power of their shared musical heritage.Compelling viewing..Awesome musical legacy..and more to come hopefully.
This is possibly the best song ever written - have always loved it and definitely want to play it at the beginning of my funeral, whenever that day comes. The video is just perfect, all light, colour and beauty. Thank you Glen Tilbrook and everyone else involved in the song and the vid. Exquisite.
Glen is a sensational singer, an absolutely fantastic guitar player, and a top drawer songwriter. And some fantastic place is my favourite squeeze song. And they have a great catalogue . Not forgetting chris's wonderful lyrics.
A wonderful song with beautiful sentiments about a much loved & missed person. As they say "To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die ". And songs too! ❤🎶🎵🎶
Just heard this on radio 6 driving home and I knew who the band was from the start as I loved all of their music as a young teenager, I can't understand why A. I didn't know this track and B. Why it wasn't released as a single in the day! Could have should have been another big hit. Loving round the houses chris, thanks.
It's a nice colourful video for a cold, dreich day in Scotland!. Bit of colour to liven things up!. Love this band and their lyrics...very smart and funny.
If there has ever been a better song written than this i'd like to know about it, brilliant lyrics, lovely chords and a killer guitar solo and when it comes out of the solo to the gospel chorus the hairs on my neck rise, just song writing nirvana, I'm playing a gig tonight with my band and after watching this i'm going to kick some ass!!!!!!!!
Saw Squeeze in 1982 as a teenager at the Hexagon in Reading, saw them again in the summer at the Weyfest (I'm a bit older now!). Just as awesome as they ever were!
wow! only became aware of this song recently its not the greatest tune they wrote but when you know the background its incredibly poignant, also the lady was Glenns first girlfriend but understand Chris wrote the lyrics which is really something and says a lot for their connection - a beautiful song , lets hope she is in some fanatstic place,
It doesn't get much better than this, he has one of the best voices in the business. have seen him 3 times at small venues, they have been amazing especially when he gets the audience involved, like getting us to do backing vocals for black coffee in bed. Seen Squeeze twice, cool gigs too.
May sound funny to some, but I think this is where Glenn sounds like he's playing a Brian May solo. Such an underrated guitarist, never mind anything else.
Great song, great singing, great guitar solo. I remember in 1997 a radio jock suggesting this should have been played at Princess Diana's funeral. They could have done a lot worse (and did!)
I liked Squeeze within the first few minutes of listening to their first album. Saw them a couple of times while living in New York City, late 70's-early 80's. It was my privlege. You brought me a video I somehow missed, and I thank you...I can see why it's so nice for people to view. Nice to be reminded that people have such strong emotions and unfailing values.
@hockey816 I read your comment and I must say I was touched by it,this is a truly great song and I know your dad is truly great as well. Great things are drawn together!!!!!!
One of my favourite numbers from later Squeeze. Both Play and Some Fantastic Place are great albums imo. I'd say East Side is my fave from their earlier work. I saw them live twice in the mid 90's at the Glasgow Barrowlands (the Ridiculous line up). Check out Jim Drury's Squeeze Song by Song book (2004) if you haven't already, it's a fascinating read.
My 14th Great-grandfather, John Darell, was given this particular “fantastic place”-Scotney Castle in Kent-as a wedding present in 1418 by Henry Chichele, Archbishop of Canterbury, when John married the archbishop’s niece Florence. It stayed in the family until 1788-370 years. It’s fun to see it here.
My mum’s funeral song, very appropriate, love Squeeze, RIP mum ❤️💔
One of my all time favourite songs. Goosebumps and tears every time I hear it. I don't know how Glenn Tilbrook sings it without crying. Beautiful lyrics, wonderful tune and amazing guitar solo. Definitely an unsung classic. Sublime.

This song makes me cry everytime. The melody and lyrics are just perfect.
I recently spoke to Chris and he said that this is the song he is most proud of writing.

Chris and Glen reckon this is the best song they have ever written, dont ya think Glen is the most underrated guitarist ever, listen to that solo!!!

Knowing the back story of this song makes it more important. Glenn and Chris are two of the most talented and important musicians of our time
One of the most underrated UK bands
Played this at mum's funeral...Words explain her so well.....miss her so much. She was in a million..
Still one of my favourite guitar solos of all time. The criminally underrated lead work of Glenn Tilbrook.

Agreed. My favourite guitarists are people like Allan Holdsworth and Greg Howe but Tilbrook's solo in this song is a work of art. He's massively underrated.
lovely structured solo has a brian may approach to it
This band is one of the most unappreciated ever (in the US for sure anyway). And yes, this solo is brilliant!
Frethub Guitar Lessons I've seen him a few times at intimate gigs he is mind blowingly good on 6 and 12 strings
I was always amazed that this wasn't a huge hit for them. One of the BEST!!!
A great song that Chris wrote about the sad passing of Glenn's first big love who died of cancer. Very touching
I hear a lot of late 60's/early 70's George Harrison in this. It's wonderful.
totally ... ♥♥♥

Always makes me feel of my Nanna :,), she died in 2008. This is where I hope she is. Some fantastic place...
Sorry
I echo every sentiment expressed on this thread.
The song is pure class.
One of my best friends is dying and this song definitely hits home for me right now. Thanks always Glenn and Chris.
This song is to Squeeze what "Days" is to the Kinks. Amazing.
