Had the privilege of meeting Ranking Roger what a gentleman gone to soon RIP Roger thanks for the memories.
A brilliant cover version of Smokey's evergreen classic ......😮
Happy 65th Birthday Dave Wakeling. 19 February 1956 Birmingham, England. I always loved that Two Tone / Reggae playing style you have. Smokey Robinson born on the same day. 1940. Happy 81st Smokey..
Absolutely need to add the bass players dance to my repetoire.
His nickname wasn't `Shuffles' for nothing !
Good moves on that Lad.
Awhile back I was watching a video someone had posted of the Specials playing Do Nothing on TOTP and I saw the Bass Playing Dancing around in the background and I thought to myself I recognise though Dance Moves. LOL.
check first with your osteopath
Rankin' full stop! RIP Roge!
The Beat amazing band amazing song i saw the Beat live in Dublin in 1981 best gig of my life Ranking Roger rip
THE BEAT ,timeless classic
Never knew how David Steele was even able to play his bass without all that shuffling and bopping around back and forth.
Awesome!
Punk Rock cover of Smokey Robinson and Stevie Wonder 1967 Album "Make it Happen" !!!!!!! Going to see them In Oct NYC
they weren't punk!
That is an unbelievable take on this song. It is excellent. This song the way they sing. It is excellent. Thank you very much boys.
One of my fave Beat tracks and one of the best covers of anything by anybody. Not sure how much of this is actually 'live' though! Sounds identical to the single, complete with backing singers! Saw them live in Brum in 1980 - best live gig I've ever been to!
Agreed, also "Walk on By" The Stranglers! Think I'll play it now☺
Long live the gig.
Great song 👍
Still the best band
THE BEAT!
Beautiful ❤️☘️
I like both versions of this track
How
@@glennrazzano596 cause there both brilliant
The original had only been #1 in Britain a short 10-years before this broadcast ... perception of Time is a strange thing?
All this time & I never knew he was left-handed on guitar. Crazy.
Makes sense he's playing on a teardrop guitar.
WOW.... great memories!
Why have them lip sync when they're so great live?
It was a condition with the BBC during certain broadcasts at the time, much simpler technical, faster setup and cheaper to produce.
@@gibsos00 Thanks for the info!!
I wish there was a Video of the Bassman only
watch him in fine young cannibals, same style
Enough of this trying to appease our American friends. This is The Beat, not the English Beat. Or at least it was when i was growing up in the rough tough Midlands of the late 70s ,early 80s.
Thank god someone has said that! 👍👍👍
Well on the other side of the Atlantic, we thank you for sharing this wonderful cover of a great American song… 😊
I’d say get over yourself but my love for this band no matter what we call them keeps my mouth……oops too late. I spilled🤣😘
Who cares about names I'm from America. It's just great classic 80's music.
Heh. You're fussing over market branding. It's trivial, just call them whatever brand they are in your neck of the woods.
2 Tone music was made for Top of the Pops
they are not the English Beat....just The Beat
Depended on what country they were in because of intellectual property laws. They were formed as The Beat but there was a band in the US that used the name, so in the US they performed as The English Beat.
I know this well. As an American, I requested the newest English Beat tape in London and was quickly informed of the difference. Good times. 1984?
The "American Dad" spy movie spoof brought me here. 😁👍
Douglas Adams brought me here. 🔥🏠💾
So just like Pagliacci did...
Is that Wilko with the rubber legs?
written by stevie wonder?
Remember the source
Hey, I worship Smokey and agree with Dylan that he's "America's greatest poet," but this might be my all-time favorite cover version and I like it better than the original! The Beat's version of "Can't Get Used to Losing You" DESTROYS Andy Williams' original too! A damn shame this great band only made 3 albums!
nice , good cover , english beat is all i've ever heard them called , but then again they never even got any airplay back when airplay was important , in the states anyway , it seems like music just picked up and left all these bands behind , too bad , it's good music with hints of reggae here and there , peace t. d.
Not live .They wouldnt let you. Kurt Cobains totp performance was because . They woudnt let him sing live, the band could mime, The stranglers stood in s line not playing they got banned etc
Lol David Steele!
I like the original better, but this is good too.
I slowed this down to Speed (0.9x) and loved it, also more in keeping with the original Smokey Robinson tempo. But that's just my preference.. your mileage may vary :)
I dislike lip synching, but having a live band backing up the performers gets expensive. This is why most shows rarely do so anymore.
Actually it's the other way around. Nowadays you rarely see a lip-sync'd performance because recording and streaming tech has gotten so easy and affordable, and also because people will no stand for that. The fans would call it out immediately and the bands know it would tarnish their image. Look what happened to Milli Vanilli and Ashley Simpson.
@@kind2311 I read somewhere about Simpson's performance on Saturday Night Live. She had trouble with acid reflux, which limited her ability to sing. She should have canceled her performance until she got better.
fo UPC
LOL They're not even trying to pretend to play the correct chords.
no point trying to make it look real, its totp
The Beat........End of!!!!
SOULJAHZ ROCKERZ RiFFAGE JAHBLESS MARANATHA KYMRY FiAH BUN....
Not feeling the "live" aspect. Willing to accept I'm wrong, but I'm 97% Dave W. is lip synching.
Live is sometimes used to mean that the act is just physically there, rather than actually playing live.
Wtf I never though a white man sang this song
@Dave Wilson - The original is sung by Smokey Robinson. This is a great cover of the song, lots of fun.
Least convincing guitar playing EVER, by Dave.
I don't like this.
I mean not just that it's not as good as the original - I actively dislike this.
No accounting for tastes 😂
Are you a fan of the Beat ?
Or lack thereof.
A brilliant tune ruined !!
Your crazy
Garbage
American friends ?
