RB25 Essential Crankshaft Mods - Extended Collar, Balancing, Grub Screwing

  • Here are the basic things you need to do to your RB25 (or any RB for that matter!) crankshaft while it's out of your engine for a rebuild.
    Now before anyone says it - YES there is certainly more than can be done (such as the more secure sine drive collar, or a full rotating assembly balance) but this is the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM you should be doing to address the biggest weak point of the RB engine - oil pump failure.
    This is what we had the time and budget to get done in order to get up and running again - if I do end up building a high powered RB30 I will be going all out when it comes to the crank!
    Definitely getting excited to be getting closer to having my engine back together!

    too much collar resistance could easily snap a crank pressing like that

    Would you balance again after grub screwing the crank?

      If you want to be absolutely pedantic about it you could, but for my relatively moderate power build I was told it won't make a noticeable difference. Hope that helps!

    Shouldn't the collar be heated up before being pressed on?
