I like the current state of the whole boat-- it looks like a car with replacement parts in different paint! Crazy cool interior.
The Nautilus design works on so many levels.
It's steam-punkish but it's nuclear-powered! In the original novel, the Nautilus was powered by a chemical reaction involving large salt tablets, possibly mined from the ocean? It's been a while since I read the novel but it was NOT nuclear-powered.
The nuclear power propulsion was a plot point Disney insisted on in the movie because of US Navy development with nuclear-powered ships in the 1950s, including the real-life SSN Nautilus. THAT Nautilus has been preserved as a museum ship in Connecticut.
The blending of the shark and crocodile design elements makes this model so unique. It's very difficult to come up with alternate design (of the Nautilus) for another take on the Verne storyline because Disney did it practically perfect! I think even the stripped down storyline and focus on a "jail break" plot worked in favor of the movie. The novel itself is a bit of a chore to read and like Moby Dick is awkward because of the 19th century language. Leagues also reads like an encyclopedia at times instead of a novel which is a problem I had with Return of the King, honestly, because that book IS half-encyclopedia!
The last Nautilus design I liked in film or TV was the one they used for The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Very stylized, too.
I've always loved that ship.
Easily one of the coolest vessels in all film history. Great modelling!
That's looking great, good job with the lighting and soundfx. Nice touches to bring the model to life. I didn't realize it had all the moveable parts.
Well, Captain Nemo and his oarsman should fit into that single lifeboat quite nicely.
Now all we need is the Penguin's Pre-Atomic Submarine!
Oh my gosh! So amazing!! I'm really glad to see you went with the toned down lighting. There seemed to be a trend for the longest time where I kept seeing builders using way too bright of lights. Especially for interiors so that looks really good what you have there. It's incredible how big this is. I don't blame you for not going for the larger size!
This is awesome. I happened across your channel looking for a review of the Revell Ford 427 model, and saw this. I've been wanting a model of the Nautilus just like this for years- can't wait to see it finished!
Loving this one Boyd, you’re doing a great job on the lighting, that ghostly green looks spot on.
That is coming out extremely well!! Really cool!! Again wonderful to see a master artist doing his thing!!
REALLY Awsm interior job! Looks like a million dollars.. This boat is Hands Down my favorite and MOST memorable movie machine i remember as a kid.. Maybe the saucers from war of the worlds.. PERFECT size model of the Nautilus. GREAT stuff thanks for sharing.
Going to be a beautiful model Boyd! Lot of time in that. But, well worth it!
Thanks Kenny, you weren't kidding about 3D printing, it's opening up a whole new world for me.
@@TrekWorks Welcome to the future Boyd! The seminar has already begun. So, just sit down and be quiet!! 😄
Bob Martin , The RC sub guy has a really good tutorial on Painting the nautilus with real rust effects..... If you're interested....... Would love to see more details of the Wheelhouse and the salon area...... Looking great 👍
Coming along very nice. Can't wait to see it finished & lit up. Looks awesome
Thank you Kevin :)
It's looking good Boyd!! Love seeing this come together.
Very cool Boyd! 👍👍
Awesome.😊
Sweet!! I also like the sub that was portrayed in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Very nice work Boyd! Can't wait to see the completed project.
Wow !
This is an amazing build. Great work and great printing Boyd!
Thanks Kenny, When I look at it now it's hard to believe all the parts came out of my printer here.
Well,
at least Boyd isn't chasing a white whale so we know he hasn't gone crazy yet!
...
You DID do a Jaws diorama or the Orca/boat one time, didn't you, Boyd?
Maybe I need to walk back my first comment and reconsider! 😅
The Indianapolis is a future project, isn't it?
...
The Nautilus is looking nice but then it was always an excellent design.
It's one of those models that seemed to be perfect after the paint job was finished.
A couple of the model shots don't work because the scale is off and the water doesn't move correctly (usually the shots that involve close-ups near the propeller). It's a problem I've seen with Titanic models, too.
Otherwise, there were a lot of beautiful underwater shots of the Nautilus moving in the Disney film.
Still one of the best live-action Disney films made.
For painting, if you want some rust, try this.
metal effects oxidizing iron paint
Boyd you are Building My Very Favorite Version of the Nautilus I've seen other Versions of the Nautilus But the First Version from the Disney Movie with Kirk Douglas is my Absolute Favorite ....
Just Out Of Curiosity Boyd are you going to make a Playlist for these Video's ???
Very nice Boyd great job as always u put a time to make things look great I follow you on the u tube channel u have I one day also want to get the nautalis some time keep up the fantastic work I'll be watching 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you :)
Fantastic work! Will you be offering this as a kit or a commissioned model?
I have been working on planning on making this model rc definitely gonna get the stl files being that the nautilus dry docks no longer makes the 1:35 scale nautilus this model is truly a god send because I want to have the interior and at the same time have a rc model also I'm still trying to figure out how to make the iris window shades open and close electrically because I want to add as many screen accurate features as possible
Maravilhoso, trabalho incrível, parabéns.
Sou um admirador do submarino Nautilus, do filme e também de Júlio Verne.
Poderia dizer qual o comprimento do submarino.
Gostaria de perguntar se você comercializa, e se envia para o Brasil.
Desde já agradeço muito.
Saudações.
Boyd I love your videos I had already printed a Nautilus model I purchased on line from Gambody, I am going to use your videos painting techniques to paint mine, I would also like to ask if you know anywhere that I can get the stl files to print the wheel house interior you have on your model as the ones supplied with my model are quite frankly rubbish. Can you help a fellow out please it would really help improve the final model appearance, as sadly it lacks the detail your has, but only found the one you have made after I had nearly finished printing this one, I printed it as large as I could it took an age!!! But us about 50" long! Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks for the video inspiration.
Fantastic Boyd! Looking amazing...Can I ask is the remote easy to program? I have some of the same remote
but no idea how to program..
Tenacontrols programmed it for me. Some of these have dip switches that set the outputs to momentary or on/off. this one doesn't have those and it has to be flash programmed with software.
@@TrekWorks Ok thank you..:)
Really great looking Boyd. I never did find that sound card on Ebay. What did you type in to find that?
Programmable sound board I believe. I bought a couple these about a year ago.
@@TrekWorks Ok, thank you Boyd. I appreciate everything you do.
😁
Hey there would u paint my micro machine Vaders tie fighter screen accurate???
Hi Boyd
Loving this model and really enjoying the build. Where can we buy the STL files from ?
