This video update show's the last steps of completing the Nautilus submarine build. I take you through the process of the multi layered painting work by spraying and by hand to achieve the rusted patina colors of the hull. Then a final reveal of the completed ship towards the end. - Хобби
That was my favorite movie when I was a kid. Always wanted a model like this. Awesome job!
My word Boyd that’s not so much a paint job as telling the story of its past operational functions, it genuinely looks used, and you made it seem so easy, wonderful.
Thanks, it's always fun and a lot easier going dirty than it is making a perfect clean subject.
Wow, you did this project really very nicely,
I'm the designer of this 3D model and I'm really excited to see a video of someone assembling all the parts I've designed.
I would also like to thank you for your compliments.
You did an amazing job with all the lighting, the glass panels and the incredible painting.
Thank you for your great videos.
I'm glad you like the work, awesome job on creating this model. It's by far the most accurate I've seen.
@@TrekWorks ohh thank you very much, I'm glad that you see it that way, I wanted to create something special for fans at a fair price and therefore I put a lot of time into the geometry, details and functionality, I find this project really difficult to print with Filament das but is really very well done, and especially the painting is very professional.
@@flaredphoenix1591 Printing in ASA worked great for me and it's thermal stable so no issues on a summer day at the lake.
Does your build include the wheelhouse interior?
@@vicster-if4mg Yes, the wheelhouse Interieur and the salon are including.
Rivets... rivets... RIVETS!!! Argh... But beautiful. Looks like the Nautilus from the movie, in some shots. I was lucky enough to see the 11-footer back in 1966-- for some reason, I was at Disneyland. My child brain saw a lot of green-- but it was dark. The boat was hanging from the flies of a stage, there was some kind of dancing going on, but my eyes were on the Nautilus. It was not all that well lit because it was not the central subject of whatever was going on. In retrospect, the look was a British bronze garden fountain with all the verde gris. But darker. (I was 11 so a lot of retrospect... )
Fun job, big job! And a remarkable build.
Beautiful Boyd! You're the Bob Ross of scale modelers!
Wow! This turned out so good! It really looks like it's made of metal. Your weathering treatment really brought it to life. I'm still shocked at how big it is! One of your best models Boyd and that's hard to compare since all of your work is top notch. Excellent job as always!!
Thanks, this was a really fun project.
Close to finishing the same model, mine is a actual working RC submarine, so lots of technical issues to be solved along the way, loved your tutorial and will use this going forward on my build.
wow that is just fantastic Boyd....very impressive, just outstanding.
Thank you Oggie, glad you like it. This was a fun project and I learned a lot about printing. It has really opened up a whole new world.
That is just a thing of beauty. I'm definitely not sorry I bought the files. Almost tempted to stop everything else and do this. Wow what skill you have Boyd.
Thanks, glad to hear your going to build this too. It's an excellent design.
I have a LP of the movie from the 60s . There was a pet seal in original. And that song.
Man, I can’t wait to see that thing in the water!
Sorry bud, it's just a static model. It could be built as an R/C boat though.
Yeah, I was just kiddin ya.
Once again Boyd you have outdone yourself. Most definitely museum quality and thank you for the ride!
Nice build Boyd. All you need to do now is print and add that Harp Seal to the tp deck. ;) Thanks
I enjoy how you explain the though process behind each step and then seeing how the final piece slowly emerges. Highly educational. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful model of the Nautilus! Your painting was incredible, the layers of detail and color were just excellent!
Beautiful work Boyd. I lack the proper vocabulary to express the admiration for your work and, this job really stands out amongst your already fantastic work.
Impressive! Thanks for walking us through the weathering. The finished model is a real showstopper. Nice stand details. Thanks for sharing.
Nice tribute to your friend:)
What a beautiful design and build!!
Thanks, such a cool subject to work on.
You have outdone yourself. Just an incredible build Boyd. It is truly a labor of love.
Boyd, your are a genius for me!
Looks amazing Boyd. Captain Nemo would be proud. Also, glad you mentioned Chris. He will be missed. Enjoy your day. Ray Levesque
Great work Boyd.
Thank you for the amazing video Boyd! It was really cool to watch the paint evolve during all the layering!
Thanks for the comment Brian, I appreciate it. Keep up the good work :)
AWESOME! Truly makes me want to seriously go out and get a resin printer!
Came out really great Boyd!
Thanks Tag, means a lot bud.
outstanding work Boyd!
A Masterclass in model building.....thank you for sharing! Cheers 🥂
Boyd once again you have made the amazing look routinely easy. That paint/weathering job is truly fantastic.Thank you for sharing this build
A gorgeous Nautilus. Wow.
Unbelievable. Chris would be proud.
Beautiful Work You Are A True Artist ! ; )
Chris lives on showing the painting with craft paint, ship looks great ! I got this same ship so I put this video in my watch later list
nice work, thanks for sharing.
I love this so relaxing to watch and it's looks amazing
Very cool Boyd! My wife has already told me I can’t build one. 😢. Thanks for sharing. 😎🇨🇦
Fantastic...love it! You did an amazing job on the painting....so nice. :) Perfect model.
Such a wonderful build! Turned out awesome!
Thank you Kenny :)
Amazing build.
My word, you have made an awesome nautilus
Great job! Bravo.
This is the best model of the Nautilus I've seen! A whale of a tale and it's all true, I swear by my tattoo
Fantastic job Boyd! Looks awesome!
Gorgeous! Just a perfect rendering! Very impressed!
Amazing. Truly amazing. Way cool. Museum quality for sure!
Truly magnificent Boyd!!! 👍👍🙏🙏
Phenomenal!
That looks so awesome!!! Absolutely perfect!!!!
Thank you buddy :)
Nice job.
Well Done .
Awesome work sirrrrrrrrrr. It's beautiful. Thank you for sharing. 👍
Great job
Awesome!
Beautiful work and I love the model you've built! I bought a model of the Nautilus on Main Street at Disneyland about 40 years ago and love it! One thing I wanted to mention. In the film, Captain Nemo attacked other ships while making his sub look like a monster. I didn't see the 'monster headlights' turn on in your demonstration. I assume they will be added later?
Dang! You fast! Beautiful!
This is amazing I looked up the model it was really small but expensive but this one is really awesome and big scale I wish I had one like this one
Awesome 😎 work as always Boyd👍😁
Thank you Henry :)
Fantastic thanks!
Ive got to try this
Looks very realistic Boyd, came out 👌 awesome.
Thanks, glad you like it.
Nice!
Nice 👍
WOW!😮 😊🎉
I would find some conducted material like copper foil strips etc to connect to a spark discharge generator to simulate the deck electrical charging.
Great work , but I've turning the room upside down trying to find out where that noise was coming from.... your printer apparently
Stunning job well done. I've considered getting into 3d printing, and your Nautilus build might push me to do it. What files did you use?
I remember Disneyland having a submarine ride that was very cool, but used "generic" su marines. But wasnt there a time when they had these (Nautilus) submarines in their lagoon?
One of my favorite models! On what beast of a 3d printer did your print this monster?
I used the Anycubic Vyper FDM printer for the hull parts and my Anycubic photon M3 premium resin printer for the small detail parts.
Looks nice! So when are you getting back to the Enterprise?
Amazing! I'm working on this same model now. How did you do the wheelhouse and salon windows? Clear resin? I have had trouble getting clear results and the windows themselves are very thin and fragile.
Thanks, I used clear plastic cupcake lids that I cut to shape. You can find a pack of 50 for cheap on Amazon.
@@TrekWorks Thank you! I'll check them out.
Boyd + there a RUclips channel the RC sub guy he did one of these I forget it might have been in a larger scale he showed how to rust the model check out his channel
Outstanding Work!! What kind of spray gun are you using? My small airbrush clogs using the craft paint.
Use isopropyl alcohol to thin it and run it through a paper paint strainer. It's a must and after that it will spray perfectly in your airbrush.
Hi, beautiful work! Where did you find the 3d file?
Wow!!! Do you sell this kit?
Awesome model.
Any idea what scale yours printed at?
I'm not sure what scale it is. The STL files if printed at 100% have the model at 66 inches. I printed at 65% and it came out to 42 inches.
@@TrekWorks ok, thanks.
I've just seen a 1/48 scale Nautilus from Nautilus Drydocks and that is 49 inches long, so yours must be about 1/56 scale.
The 66 inch Nautilus is 1/35 scale.
😃
Can you tell us where you got the download 3D file from... is this the one on GAMEBODY or the one on TURBOSQUID ?
Where is the original sub, is it still around or has it been demolished ?
The original 11 foot filming model is on display at one of the Disney parks in the U.S. It's mostly intact but in poor cosmetic condition.
@@TrekWorks Thanks for the info, I remember going on the ride at Disney-world back in 1978. Great movie and great model of an iconic movie vehicle.
Hey there! What site did you get the plans for this? Or did you design it? Thanks!
I downloaded the files and 3D printed it.
@@TrekWorks Where did you download it from? Thanks
@@TrekWorks Found it...GamBody...same site I use for the SciFi Models!!

How can I purchase sometihing like this and what would it cost.
Is that a whalesong loop or something?
how much does it cost?
where did you get the .STL at?
www.gamebody.com
Where can I find the print files
Hi Boyd. If I wanted to commission you to print one of these kits, what would it cost, and would you do it?
One day I may get a 2nd printer to be able to do that. For now my printer will be tied up for awhile :)
@@TrekWorks That's understandable. I'll tell you what....I have about 20 kits to build(I'm currently working on the Razor Crest), that I'm planning to build to hone all the skills I'll need to do a really good job building my 1/350 USS Enterprise Refit kit. This could take me years to do. If you pick up a 2nd printer some day, I'm prepared to wait for you to do that while I'm working on the other projects. It's just that I've been dying to build a Harper Goff Nautilus for...well, forever. I love that ship and the film it's in, and NOBODY has that kit available anymore. It's on my model bucket list, so I would really appreciate it if you keep me in mind down the road. Thanks.
May I be lucky to buy the 3D file frm you introduce..... 😅🙏
Just gave up on the Enterprise?
I guess you didn't watch the video.
EXCELLENT BUILD! Now for the hard part... "Box her up well and send it to my address tomorrow or our professional friendship has met its end" sorry I have no choice ..it's too beautiful nutt'n personal, just business .......c.s.
I hate to lose ya buddy ;)
Maybe it's the wide-angle camera lens distortion, but the nose looks too short and stubby.
Boyd + Robo cop
Your prop's turning backwards.
First.
How did you wind up doing the wheelhouse and salon windows?? And what paint gun are you using?
Where did you get the stl file?
