Very good advice 👍
So It means Ziga will test it... Right?
Not likely, as the muzzle brake is the same diameter as the barrel. Even if it did strike it, it wouldn't cause much damage either unless the muzzle brake in particular was very fragile. A hammer forged AK-74 muzzle brake couldn't care less about a bullet striking it.
@@user-ij9sh1tf9d I think what he meant was that shrapnel from the bullet striking the muzzle break can spray out from the muzzle break.
Well technically the rifle he’s using has a muzzle break/compensator on it anyways....honestly You’d probably be fine, even if it did strike the break it’s unlikely the round or muzzle device would break apart.....now it could mess up your silencers so i wouldn’t recommend that

The AK bolt carrier is actually a brilliant design which prevents rounds from firing out of battery. The firing pin isn’t even reachable by the hammer unless it’s in battery... how genius.
Yes you can... and we did, but not voluntarily.
About 30 years ago, me and my friends went to an empty field that we usually went for target practice.
We would usually have our ammo loosely in separate ammo cans. We each had several platforms that fired 5.56 & 7.62X39 and we would usually reload our mags in between breaks and while the rifles cooled off.
My friend grabbed his Hungarian preband AK and started shooting at some targets placed across this swamped field @ approximately 40 yds. or so..
Half way through his mag a round went off, but it's report was different. As we're looking down field, we noticed a projectile landing approximately 20 yds in front of us, skipping throughout the swamp and then realized that the firearm had a failure.
We tried pulling the charging handle back, but it was stuck like Chuck.
We tried your typical butt/bump charging technique against the floor several times until the bolt broke loose but, the bolt stripped off the cartridge.
The cartridge was still stuck in the chamber, so we pulled the cleaning rod out, pushed it through the muzzle end and wacked it with a rock.
The cartridge finally popped out, at that exact moment, we realized that it was a 5.56 casing.
The brass cartridge, actually expanded to the contours of the 7.62 X 39 chamber upon detonation, with some visible stressed points but it never cracked nor ruptured.
We later figured that we might of dropped a 5.56 round into the 7.62 ammo box and that the skipping splashes in the swamp was probably the bullet.
We inspected the bore, thinking that the smaller caliber round might have fouled or possibly damaged it but everything looked find. We tested it with a single round then later ran a couple of mags with no issues nor failures.
Gotta love them AKs....
Virtually the same thing happened to me some years ago. It was actually a Russian Wolf, steel cased 5.56X45 round and it expanded up to 7.62mm......

Árpád I had an ammo can filled with loose 7.62x39 and a few boxes of steel cased 223. One of the 223 rounds must have fallen out and gotten mixed up. My buddy loaded it into an AK mag and I didn't realize until after he shot. The casing got stuck really badly in the chamber and I had to whack it out with a cleaning rod... So it was mostly an accident, but I was still like "Wtf bro" lol

I'm glad the lack of bore-fit kept the pressure low. Had that been a 5.45 chamber (and it somehow fully chambered) I imagine the case head would have easily separated.
Correct
There is so little pressure that most of the gunpowder wasn't even ignited. Even if it was, the big difference in bore diameter would let all the pressure out through the barrel
2:30 the beauty of slovenian language never seizes to amaze
That's a fun way to play russian roulette with an ak platform.
I believe having a supportive team at 2:30 made this video a 100 times better.
It would have been interesting if you had shot through a chronograph to measure the muzzle velocity of the 5.56 round to see what level of performance degradation the lack of pressure caused
Reminds me of the time I learned that you can shoot .40 S&W through a .45 ACP.
Thank you for the video. After the 3rd (successful) attempt to shoot the 5.45mm it was interesting to scroll back and actually see the bolt not closing all the way on the two initial attempts.
This was a topic of discussion way back in the 1980’s US Army. Soldiers proclaimed this as if it were some amazing revelation that our rifles were somehow worse than AKs because AKs would fire 5.56. As if the scenario was ever really going to play out that the Soviets were going to win WWIII by capturing 5.56 and use it in their AKs.
Now try to reload that deformed 5.56 case with a 7.62 ball and see if it still works in the ak.
I love these random test and the out takes you guys never disappoint 😁🙂thanks and can't wait to see more
You an also shoot .40S&W through 10mm, although it relies on the extractor to hold round in place for firing pin strike, and it doesn't headspace on the front of the case.
You can also shoot .38 out of a .357 lol. Or how about .380 from a 9mm.
It's fun to see non native English speakers cussing correctly. It shows an expert level of language skills.
I’ve actually done it with a steel case 223 it’ll split the side of that case but in my example it fired an I hit the target a a light mortar pulled it right out
A 5.45 in a 5.56 rifle would blow the whole bolt off, tho. It happened to a Sig550.
where does it see the pressure to blow the bolt if it leaks around the bullet?
Really?
We tried to fire 5.45 in 7.62 AK but it didn't chamber it
I would not be comfortable in trying 5.45 in 5.56 or vice versa.
5.56 in 7.62 is very safe because you are putting such a small bullet in such a big bore and it can vent all the pressure
@@PolenarTacticalWell, I'm no way an expert in that matter but I saw it happen to a friend who was shooting at the range with his military (Swiss) Sig550/STG90.
His ammos where mixed up because he was using metal case rounds (Barnaul) both for his Sig and his AKs74, one got in there for whatever reason, he loaded up his magazin, fired and the bolt blew off.
Luckily for him he got his weapon repaired by the arsenal, whitout them knowing what happened.
I think, in deed, you took less risks in your video but it's better that way, haha ^^
Thanks for the video ;-)

short answer, no, a 556 round will not fire in a 7.62 weapon, totally different caliber and you run the risk of injuring yourself and possibly damaging/destroying weapon.
If you've reached the point in a fight where you have to fire 5.56 rounds out of your AK, then you've also reached the point where hiding behind a wall and using your AK as a club is an equally viable option, lol
😂
When 5.56 trying to 'infiltrate' the 7.62 'base camp'.
This test was actually performed over 35 years ago on a video entitled "Rifle Combat" by Gossier Arms. The test was to disprove that the NVA were using captured 5.56mm in their AK rifles. The 5.56 rounds would not stay in the mag, the round was forced into the chamber, fired and the neck ruptured. The projectile hit a water jug @ 15m and barely penetrated the plastic. I had a copy of this video on VHS but it deteriorated. Anybody else see this video?
So, you are saying I can fire form 223 brass to fit my AK for reloading, great👍🎉

getting hit by a tumbling round at close range would probably be one of the worst things a human being could experience x3
You wanna live really dangerously trying loading 5.56 into a 5.45 AK or vice versa.
I was told (a long time ago) that the AK-74 was designed with the 5.45mm Warsaw round so that it could use 5.56mm NATO ammunition in an emergency but the reverse is not possible (fire 5.45mm from an M16) Do you know if this is true?
@@stevebuckley7788 If it was to be done intentionally, the way to have done it would have been to make all dimensions identical to 5.56 except with an additional 1mm OAL. Just enough to prevent chambering for enemy soldiers using your ammo without effecting your soldiers' ability or accuracy while using enemy ammo whatsoever. The differences between the 5.45 and 5.56 are almost certainly incidental.
@@mtnbkr5478 Yes I'm skeptical myself. It may be just cold war misinformation but I've heard it a lot.
It may be just have been designed to be fully incompatible but the decision to create the 5.45mm round was not accidental and it was definately modeled on the 5.56mm
I really would like to see someone try it both ways.
The AK-74 is still a relatively mysterious weapon in the West but it had mythical status during the cold war, kind of like the neutron bomb and firefox.

Reminds me of sticking a .30-06 in a Mosin Nagant that should be shooting 7.62x54R. It will fire. Nothing bad happened in my gun when I did that, just had to use the cleaning rod to get the brass out, it like compressed the brass just a little on the bottom of that case cause its not a tight fit.
Now you got me curious about 300 Blackout in a 7.62 AK. The bullet diameters are roughly the same, so I assume pressures would be completely different and potentially dangerous.

I had this happen to me today 🙈
Took out my brand new Saiga MK103 to the range to sight it in and had someone else try it. They managed to mix up the ammo (we were also shooting my H&K MR223) and loaded a .223 and it actually fired on the first try. The casing split and was stuck in the chamber (not very tight, could be pulled out easily). The rifle obviously didn't cycle and there were loads of unburned powder and smoke. The projectile left the barrel and, as far as I can see from a simple visual inspection looking down the muzzle after cleaning (I don't have a bore scope), there was no damage to the rifling.
The " smell" being different comes from the different priming compounds.in the US most steel case import rounds "smell" our cheap walmart shotgun rounds. Whole high end milsurp will smell like premium handlod primers.

Is this a hint of an uncoming collab with brandon?
I found 4 spent pieces of brass that were horribly deformed at one of the local gun clubs about 15 years ago. They were all Lake City 5.56 but the bases, rims and primer pockets were extremely disfigured.
After measuring the still intact parts of the brass, it turns out they were fire formed in a 5.45x39 chamber. There's really no excuse for this to happen since the bolt would be so far out of battery. But it was apparently close enough where the hammer would still fall when the trigger was pulled. After the first shot it should have been obvious, but I lost all faith in humanity after finding 4 pieces of brass like this! I wish I could post a picture of them.
I really don't think the bullets could have made it out of the muzzle. They are just too oversized and too much gas was lost after the primers were blown out and the flash holes enlarged the way they were.
Back when I used to teach firearm safety classes so people could get their state carry permits I used them to stress the necessity of matching the correct round to the firearms chambering.
If you ever have a sacrificial 5.45 AK, that would be an interesting video to recreate, fired remotely, of course!
