  • Milton Keynes is a large town in Buckinghamshire, England, located approximately 50 miles north-west of London. Join us, as we travel back and forth between Fenny Stratford, Bletchley, Soulbury and more as we turn the boat for the exterior paint job shown in last weeks vlog.
    We encounter quaint bridges and locks, each a testament to the rich industrial history of the canal system. We discover Ouzel Valley Park, a hidden gem in Milton Keynes. The park boasts picturesque waterways, meadows, and woodlands. .
    We also have some friends visit and take them on a little cruise near Water Eaton.
    Our narrowboat journey through Milton Keynes is one we thoroughly enjoyed giving us a unique perspective of this vibrant city, exploring its waterways, parks, and historical sites. It's a memorable way to appreciate the harmony of urban planning and natural beauty that define Milton Keynes and we are glad to have chosen this area to spend our time travelling backwards and forwards.
    We hope you have enjoyed this week's vlog and continue to join us on our Narrowboat adventures. Next week we are showing you the full inside of our narrowboat by doing a boat tour.
    If you would like to see the renovation side of our story, there are a collection of vlogs in a separate playlist, so please take a look at our channel page.

    Love seeing your trip through Milton Keynes. I live there many years ago when I was a social worker for Buckinghamshire County social services, which was before Milton Keynes became its own area. It’s such an interesting place because it’s a combination of the new in The Old I lived across from Linford Park on the Stantonbury Estate. I always loved walking along the canals, although it’s much more built up now than when I lived there enjoy your journey greetings from Pennsylvania.

      Hi there Dierdre. Thanks so much for watching and how fab that you used to live there, stantonbury Park is beautiful as is Linford. We actually loved Milton Keynes. Found it fascinating how different it was from the roadside compared to the canalside. 🙂

    Great job guys, I must say I've never seen Milton Keynes look so good, it's an absolute pain to drive around, especially in a truck, always look forward to a boat tour as I question myself as to what to have in mine ( when I get one ) I never thought that a toilet could be such a great dilemma 😂😂 once again, great job, many thanks for sharing ❤

    • @uponreflection
      @uponreflection  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hi there Nigel, Milton Keynes is beautiful via the canal. Its hard when deciding what would work for you on a boat, my advice with that one would be to spend time on her before deciding as I was adamant that I didn't want a dinette and since actually living aboard I have thought many of times that a dinette would have been quite useful 😅

    • @uponreflection

      @nigelgregory7308 exactly that. Paul had never been on a narrowboat either. The day we put a deposit on this boat was the first day he had stepped foot on narrowboats and I'd only been on a similar boat on the Norfolk broads as a kid, but like you say once you know you want to live a certain lifestyle you just accommodate accomplishing that. 😀

    On the winding hole I thought in the Nicholson guides if there no number it’s ok for a 70ft boat but if it’s smaller it give you the maximum size, keep enjoying it and hope to see you passing us one day

    • @uponreflection
      @uponreflection  10 месяцев назад

      Hi Mark, yes it says that unless a number is written in nook then all ok for up to a 70ft but we have found a few that are no where near big enough for a us, so maybe the weeds have taken over to the point of narrowing the winding hole but we wondered if there was a more up to date way of knowing. 😀

    *Morena Liz, Paul & Ernie 🙂 Wow I am loving the tour of the UK countryside... some massive homes too. So have you two been surprised at what you are discovering along the way... like did you know about all them parks & artworks? Paul explaining the roundabout was so funny... he has such wicked sense of humour. Liz give Paul the duster to dust off the dust off the side of the barge... Gotta keep her spick-n-span after all your hard work of painting her. 🙂 Liz, I had a thought, keep the whole tiller in its natural form of metal... to keep it nice an shiney... with just a motorbike handgrip where you hold it. So it means stripping off that green that is still seen and make it shiney 🙂. Looking forward to the full tour next week. 🙂.nz*

      Hi there Andrea, some places we have heard certain things about before we go but mainly we are learning and discovering new things as we get to them. The exciting part of it is not knowing what's around the next corner as such. Paul wasn't far wrong with his roundabout talk, they do love a roundabout in milton keynes. We've had a bit of rain now so all dust has been removed from boat without Paul grabbing the duster out 🤣🤣 great idea with the tiller. Although a day too late as I painted that yesterday which you will see in a few vlogs time. 😉 hope you are well and keeping as busy as always 🙂

    • @andreacrashe9894
      @andreacrashe9894 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@uponreflection Oh dang about the tiller... well it is still fresh paint, so will be easy to take it off... 🙂 Yep still busy.... spent the last few days gaining more info for the brain to process on getting stuff for the bathroom, Toilet & laundry rooms. I was given some time ago a brand new corner sink (never been fitted before) for the bathroom which is minus the taps and waste plug hole etc... I had measured and traced the holes... turns out that I can reuse my bathroom sink taps in the new sink and just buy the new plughole thingee. Also priced up new cistern etc.. as I have also been given a brand new toilet (never been fitted) and also the price of a new laundry tub. Only one tub will fit due to the depth of the tub from the front to the back to the wall. Funny thing is it brand name is 'Robin-Hood'... So next up is getting hold of a car to borrow to go and pick the cistern & laundry tub up... as delivery costs is not cheap. Then store them in the storage room formally known as the spare room hehehe. The big decision is deciding which one of the many showers to get 1200 x 800.*

    • @uponreflection
      @uponreflection  9 месяцев назад

      Wow you never stop. That's a big shower at that size. Or is it because I'm so used to small things now on the boat 🤣

    • @andreacrashe9894
      @andreacrashe9894 9 месяцев назад

      @@uponreflection *Liz it is called 'future proofing' so that, in time I can put a stool in the shower to sit on... hence why the old bath is being chucked out. 1200 is only 4ft long... But yep you have completely downsized everything into a smaller space... and your shower is probably 900x900? 🙂.*

      @uponreflection  9 месяцев назад

      Hi Susan, I think we've adjusted really well so far to life on the cut, the most surprising thing is how time flies. We cruise for a while and it feels like 10minutes and its actually been a couple of hours. Also I assumed that we would cruise and then stay for a week or 2 in a mooring but we find that we get itchy feet and move again after a couple of nights. Also the beauty of nature from the canals will never stop surprising me. We love it 😀
