I am British and have lived in Antalya for many years. The situation is becoming hard for the locals who are seeing themselves priced out of the rental market. The Turks who are ok with the Russians that have come in droves are the ones that have financed from it. The poorer elements of society are growing in anger day by day. A few days ago I passed a shop in a suberb here that was totally Russian, Russian goods, Russian writing, everything. My Turkish friends, all very nice and good people were totally angry with this and saw it as in insult to them and their culture. A culture Turks are extremely proud off.
    It won't end well!

@@alperenbaser7952 I agree, to be honest I don't even like seeing shops with English writing. As you said, this is Turkey not England or Russia . What also frustrates me, is it seems very few of the Russians even bother to try and learn Turkish. I have been in Turkey for 20 years, one of the first things I did was take a Turkish lanquage course. Also learn Turkish history and culture

I am a Turk who lives in Turkey. I can tell you, with 100% confidence, that rent going up has more to do with economy than Russians coming to Turkey. Since 2020, the beginning of Covid, the prices of everything went up insanely high in Turkey. If you ignore little countries that have population numbers in the 100-thousands, Turkey has the highest inflation in the world right now. I'll give you an example, a certain brand of yogurt I often buy was around 4 lira in 2020, now it's almost 20 liras. The least effected things are easily tripled in price and most effected things are now 6 times more expensive. And I am giving you these numbers by experience. Another example, a ream of A4 paper, that you use in your copy machine, was around 15 liras or cheaper in 2020, it's now 100 liras. So, when I say some things' prices went up 6 times, I am not making these numbers up. And since I am speaking from experience, there might be other things that went up 10 times more expensive, who knows. And all that happened in just 2 years.

Although Antalya (main city) is headline grabbing - they (Channel 4 reporters), really should have gone out to Kemer, that is true "Russian town" now. Go through the national park 6km from Kemer and you hit Camyuva - which is pretty solid wealthy Ukrainians. It's a strange world out there. If you go the other way - Alanya direction - you can actually pass a huge hotel replica of The Kremlin Palace, which is just "bonkers" surreal (have no idea if anyone actually goes in there - I saw nobody there over the summer (this year)). Keep going until about 8 km before Alanya and it's really Russian & Ukraine hotel villages all the way, (maybe that is an even greater surreal journey than the Antalya - Kemer - Finike-Kumluca journey; hard to tell). Not sure how the distribution of Russian / Ukrainians out in the Lara Beach area of Antalya is but man, a lot of RU / UKR "Influencers" seem to have decamped there - the rent must be horrendous now, (especially when you add some blingy Uzbeks to the mix). And, yeah, the UKR and RUS people all seem to live in their own world(s) apart from the Turks (though many Turks in the Kemer area can speak Russian quite well now). When I was cycling along the Antalya beach this past summer it would not be uncommon to encounter Russians asking in English if the Turks in the given restaurant/cafe could speak Russian and accept Russian currency as payment -- oof.

Throughout history, Turkey has been something of a Middle Eastern Paris for immigrants. Natives of the North Caucasus were deported to Turkey during the "Caucasian Wa"r with Russia. Hundreds of thousands of White Russians took refuge in Turkey during the Russian Civil War. Azerbaijani, Georgian dissidents moved there after the Bolsheviks occupied their countries. So I think it's because of their geopolitical position.

The same can be said for the illegal war of Afghanistan and Iraq by the West. Just because young people have no clue about the reality of the trouble, Nato wishes to put on Russia; doesn't mean the war is wrong. With every war, you can find those who wish for peace and condemn the war but if you told these same people; ok no war but then you will be a slave to so and so, they will object such people are a by-product of peace and a comfortable life. The same people will recant their opposition to the war if the desire of Ukraine was allowed to play out. Simply they are cowards but they are of use in other ways. The people in the East of Ukraine are the most happiest with this what President Putin has done. Only problem it took 8 years too long. Which again proves Russias true intent. Now we have to come to learn the Minsk agreements where lies smoke screen to get Ukraine ready. How shameful!
