During ww2 my dad was british merchant navy , and in south America you had neutral ports and they had bars full of german crews mainly submarine crews and british crews and they couldn't fight each other in a neutral port . And my dad used to say they would buy rounds of drinks for each other and smile because the bars were very close and both sides watched each other in case they left port . And out of port they would be trying to kill each other . its a funny world
It's still a Web of Lies
@Königstiger my dad didnt say enough about it to write a book he just said that in nuetral ports the local police tried to keep the allied and axis crews in different bars and you would see axis crews in bars and they knew they would get in trouble fighting , so they would wave and order drinks . he saw quite a few ships sunk during the war .
Ukrainians and Russians are talking to each other on the comment sections all the time. They are mostly in the Bulgarian alphabet (aka "Cyrillic") comment sections. I think the communication is a lot more close and personal than buying drinks from across the floor.
@@hardcoded what is ? your told you cant fight in a neutral port and both sides are involved in a very nasty war for several years my father found it pretty interesting to see germans because normally they were in submarines and either they sunk your ship or they got depth charged either way you never saw them

I’m currently stayed in a hostel in Bali with a Russian roommate. Just 2 days ago a new roommate joined us, and he’s Ukrainian. And oh boy it’s the most awkward situation I’ve ever experienced when they met each other for the first time. But fortunately now they’re chilling each other since the Russian guy is actually anti-Putin and opposing the war. The Ukrainian guy seems understand him, and now they’re good for now.
The hate is not as deep as most think. We have many family ties with Russians. Most of my friends are actually Russians. So it would be okay to be roommates. By the way is there a quarantine period there right now? How bad is the process to get into Bali?
It's okay to wack him over the head with a 2 by 4. It's fine. When you leader is committing genocide and threatening the world with nukeys, you're game.
Russians need to be really careful now. They're all guilty, even when openly opposing the war. They are the nazies.
They need not hate each other that 8s what Putin wants they must not let the mad tyrant get his way!

I teach Ukrainian and Russian students in the same class. I thought there would be problems, but there aren't. Many of the Ukrainians speak Russian or have Russian parents, and none of the Russians support the war.

I had a friend who worked as a bouncer at a club in Munich during the civil war in Yugoslavia. He said it was pretty scary sometimes because there were plenty of Croats/Serbs/Bosnians who lived and worked in Munich, but since it was so close, would periodically return to their respective communities in Yugoslavia to take part in the fighting, sometimes just over a weekend. Then they'd come back to Munich and go to work. So basically as a bouncer you had to deal with sometimes drunk angry people who were used to fighting and killing on a daily basis, add to that that they could go to a club and see members of the group they were fighting back in Yugoslavia - it was a bit of tinderbox to say the least.
That's actually a wild story! Fascinating, but terrifying...

The money he is getting is paying for staff and services he needs to bring up his family in comfort. For most people in the west, the sanctions represent a small increase in the cost of living. But for these Turks putting sanctions on ordinary Russia people is the difference between putting food on the table, or sending your kids to bed starving.
Those who can afford to avoid Russian money, should. But if you have no choice, you have to take what you can get. Besides, if Russia does expand beyond Ukraine, Turkey is a NATO ally and the taxes those Russians are paying will be spent on weapons to destroy the Russian military

Speak your mind on DW then get arrested once you are back home. You can't even lift a blank piece of paper in Russia now without getting into big trouble.
Why would they say anything else on camera?
Because they're neighbors are being murdered by the hands of Russian fathers, sons, and brothers. Thats why they should be speaking about it. Being arrested and having a "record" is nothing to fear in comparison to what Ukrainians are experiencing.
They have the choice of asking DW to blurry their faces, change their voice and then speak freely. I don't see them even thinking about those options. They prefer not to care, it's more comfortable like that. And if they are outside of Russia, they can perfectly get other information rather than the poison they get from Russian TV. But again, why would they? They don't care.
How can people defend their country where its illegal to show a blank piece of paper? If they don't think something's wrong they are not gonna be new Einsteins

We can work against Turkish interests in favour of our own and Turkey may protest with acts like the S400 purchases, but ultimately it can't truly pivot anywhere else in any significant way.
