In 2014, Russia seized the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea in one of the most brazen annexations of territory since World War II. This is what happened after. WATCH NEXT: Before The Trump Scandal: How Comedian Zelensky Became Ukraine's President - ruclips.net/video/30ALpcuyaYM/видео.html
You always said Russia do propaganda, but Ukraine do it too.. Vice is so bias If Crimeans and other east ukraine people want to join Russia, let them be.. it's their right, they feel closer to Russia than Ukraine
Crimea was first settled by the Greeks 2000 years ago and then by the Byzantine empire and then controlled by Venetians through till medieval times. It was then Conquered by the Mongols, then mostly settled by Crimean Tatars in the sphere of Ottoman influence. It was then annexed by the Russians in the 1700s. The Ukrainian population of the peninsula has never been over 25%. It's been Russian dominated since 1900s when the Russian population outgrew the Crimean Tatars. This is why the majority of the population want to be part of Russia. For anyone to think Crimea belongs to Ukraine is totally ignorant of history.
@@grecovevo2416 the truth is of course that the majority of Crimea supported joining Ukraine in the collapse of the Soviet Union. There are plenty of Russian speakers in the rest of Ukraine and they’re fighting tooth and nail to keep the invasion out. Russia doesn’t have the right to take those territories either.
@Kristian only reason crimea was given to ukraine back in the soviet times is because of it's proximity. And it remained like that even after the collapse of soviet union because ukraine was suppose to be a really close russian ally so they been allowed to keep crimea despite population there being mainly russian. No one who knows at least a little bit of history cannot say that is was an occupation.
@Kristian by your logic it would mean that uyghur autonomous region and tibet is inseparable part of china despite them being ethnichaly and culturaly vastly different from them and if they were to decide to gain independence, they would have no right to do so. It's baseless to say that all borders are unchangeable in any circumstance.
@Kristian dude, just because previous administration gave it to them, it doesn't means it has to be that way till the eternity. There are simple facts here, crimea prodominantly russian? Yes. Crimae was just an autonomous region of ukraine and wasn't even the core country? Yes. Countries can decide to revoke their previous policies and do something else? Yes. I mean whats even the argument here? Even the people in crimea doesnt wants ukraine...
10:15 they talk about how Crimea is primarily an advantageous location for military operations. This was made in 2019, and in 2022 we see that it was 100% correct
No need to wait the future, just look at a map. It was really obvious, even more since the bridge. On the other hand, I am surprised that they dont attack also by transnistria, it is surely not to wake up the moldavians
Giving out Crimea to Ukraine was a terrible mistake that Khrushchev did. At that time Ukraine was a part of the Soviet Union and nobody thought the USSR is going to collapse. When the collapse happened, a territory with the majority of Russian population and strategically important to Russia's security ended up being a part of another country.
That's not quite right. it was the Government of the failed USSR led by Mikail Gorbachev that provided Russia and the other 14 republics the opportunity to grow and prosper with the rest of the World. Putin knows his control of Russia and the other 14 countries maintains the regions isolation and his personal wealth. Unfortunately for the Russian people Putin's expansionist crusade reduces any possibility of Russia's and the Worlds security.

It's a bastardization of "Soviet", most of the elites were created by enclosure (the privatization of formerly public goods) in the 90's, after the USSR split; to comply with international loan requirements. It was an international scheme that worked well as it created local power brokers they could play against each other.
Everyone went there , all workers had the chance to visit Crimea and the trip by train was not counted in your vacation days, but your right . The Islamic region has been a unified powerful empire since 600AD with the Rashidun caliphate, the Umayyad Dynasty, the Abbasid Dynasty, and the Ottoman empire. The reason Iraq is a failed state was because the objective of the American Invasion was to destroy Iraq. In other words, their mission was a success. Before the American invasion, and this is as recently as my father's life time, when our parents went to Iraq, there were literally zero sectarian tensions between Iraqi Sunnis and Shias. They married into each other's families, both served in the police and military, both were equal citizens. The American invasion caused the civil war and the subsequent sectarian blood bath.

@Jose Raul Miguens Cruz Hmm. Interesting. The Mexican government was not recognized by Texas during the 12 short years of Mexico's weak existence before the revolution. Texas was part of Spain for 300 years before that. Spain threw Texas away, then Mexico said "we'll take that", then Texas said "nope". So it is the same. Now all the Ukrainians have to do is become the new working class in Crimea, have lots of kids, then eventually take over by overwhelming population majority. Good call.

I wish Vice mentioned that as part of Ukraine, Crimea had a status of Autonomous Republic, which means they had their own Parliament. I also wish they showed other people in Crimea who, like my family, who did not want to join russia but also Crimean Tatars, who lived on the peninsula for a thousand years, and their views on the whole situation. If you’re gonna be objective, do it right. As the African proverb says “Until the lion learns to write, every story will glorify the hunter”.
I mean... You could make your own video. And I'm willing to bet that the Tatars can write too. Which hunter is being glorified here though? Russia? Ukraine? I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

Now they just disappear. Unless they’re high profile “rebels” who want to promote democratization reforms in the Duma. Then they are just declared terrorists and imprisoned indefinitely after the initial assassination attempt in a foreign country they were being sheltered in fails.
@@innosoul So Ukraine is cutting water supplies to its own territory, sanctioning their citizens that visit that territory, because it is theirs? Nope. They are doing it because it is no longer theirs, and they are spiteful, and never cared for the well being of Crimeans. Ukraine has problems giving autonomy to it's regions when they ask. That's why they lost Crimea, because they didn't want to recognise the refferendums, and that's why they have civil war in Donetsk and Luhansk.
From the first words of the English-language text, the brazen deception of the listeners began: the announcer says that this is "three years after the seizure by Russia," but the deception is that Russia DID NOT SEIZE Crimea! Even when Ukraine was separated from the USSR, Crimea ITSELF stood out from its composition as an Independent Republic of Crimea, but the Ukrainian authorities ignored this and used Crimea as an annexed territory for all 22 years, using its territory to their advantage and giving nothing in return. And in 2014, when, as a result of a coup, not only the LEGITIMATE GOVERNMENT in Ukraine was actually overthrown, but also the country's Constitution was grossly violated, Crimeans did not want to live in such a country and restored the INDEPENDENT Republic of Crimea. The fact that 96.8% of Crimean residents expressed a desire to join Russia as a result of the referendum held UNDER the SUPERVISION of foreign OBSERVERS was solely the desire of the Crimeans themselves. Russian troops in Sevastopol were all 22 years in the number of 20 thousand people and in the lease agreement of the Sevatopol naval base, for which Ukraine received 200 thousand dollars annually, it was indicated that the number of military personnel could be increased to 30 thousand if necessary. In connection with these events, the Russian government decided that such a need had arisen.
Actually, though, while this includes footage from 2017, this was clearly produced AFTER 2017 as it also references 2018, so you two are clearly confused as well. If they had included the original publication date, there would be no confusion.

@@Tohdette unfortunately most of the middle east requires a ruler with a iron fist because of religious violence
@@missourimongoose8858 I swear to you that is not true, it is a misconception used by dictatorships and their supporters to justify their rule.
@@Tohdette I was in Iraq man and the shias and sunnis fight amongst themselves far more than fighting American troops and they both fought the kurds and yazzidis, its like that all over the middle east, Islam is far from a religion of peace and the middle east is far from peaceful
@@missourimongoose8858 That is after the war, not before.
It is not like that all over the Middle East. That is simply not a factual statement. I'm not saying this just to argue.
Islam is not a religion of peace or violence, its a religion that is practiced by peaceful and violent people (just like any other religions).
Middle East is not peaceful or violent. If you invade, occupy, destroy, dismantle, sanction, blockade countries, they end up in a very dire state. The Middle East didn't just magically become what it is today. It was the British Empire and the French that turned the Ottoman Empire into 22 different war torn countries through sabotage, infiltration, military interference, occupation, and installment of corrupt dictatorships and monarchs.
I know you have a perspective, but it is based on your observation of what you see in front of you...I recommend adding historical context to your way of thinking so that you can be more fact based when you make an argument (again, not saying this to pick a fight).
With those last lines he casually stoked existential terror and dread: “Crimea is getting armed…It’s obvious we are getting ready for some kind of World War 3…Unfortunately I did not appreciate what we had”.

eh .. being independant is good. but getting all worked up about russian aggression is not going to help your future. I dont think the Europeans nor the US is in any position to continue pouring paper currency in your coffers. time for you to develop trade and good relations with your direct neibours rather then look for help from beyond oceans. the West is only intrested in suppressing Russia or anybody who rises against them.
Are there still ethnic Crimean Tartars? Do you know what their views are? I assume they view both Ukrainians & Russians as occupiers.
I mean... You could make your own video. And I'm willing to bet that the Tatars can write too.
Which hunter is being glorified here though? Russia? Ukraine? I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

Crimea is Ukraine!
@John Gregory Crimea was never russian but Tatar 🤣🤣🤣
"We learn from history that we do not learn from history - Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel"
When was this filmed? Poroshenko was defeated by Zelensky in May 2019

When the reports are not contemporary, Vice ought to include in the video description when the report was originally aired. It's confusing.
