    47:25 He downplayed just how dirty they did Ron in this scene. In the book, not only does he not do any of the gloating/"I let her win". Ron actually beats Hermione in the duel, and when he's celebrating she says "Okay, so you disarmed me once. I beat you 13 times." And Ron replies, "Yeah. I beat *you* once!" Basically showing just how much he respects her skill that he considers disarming her once a major victory.

      As someone who has read the books and loved them and l loved the movies.. I don’t get why people say Steve Kloves hated the character of Ron? He was given a lot of stand out moments that people seem to forget or don’t seem to bring up.. Rupert Grint did a great job as Ron and is the glue of the trio! While yes I would have added more to his character but there’s other characters and side characters I would’ve added more including Harry and Hermione.. so I don’t think Ron was done dirty in my opinion but Ginny Weasley was done incredibly dirty.. I think some book fans are just hard to please because the movies are so brilliant wow far from perfect. I don’t think the TV series is going to capture that magic and the adventure and the great cast that we got in those eight movies!🪄❤️🎬

      @@marvinschannel5391he’s admitted that he liked Hermione more, and wanted to give her more to do. And he gave a lot of Ron’s important scenes to Hermione. Like the devilsnare, or explaining mudblood, or know more about the everyday wizarding world since he grew up in it, and has a parent in the ministry. But I think what how people the most was how they had Hermione say the “if you want to kill Harry, you have to kill us too” when in the book it was more impactful when Ron said it while standing on a broken leg.

      Tbf, this would've been a good fit to the GoF movie Moody, since there he was quite quirky and out of touch from the society norms. Which for me shows that Moody is good only at fighting Dark Arts and he got so deep into it, he forgot how to be a normal human.
      Also, movie Moody is times better imo, especially knowing the fact that in the movie - Moody doesnt even need a wand to protect himself, while the book got him knocked out by Death Eaters.

      In all fairness to Moody, Harry at this moment had a lot on his mind going on mainly two events that happened during the dinner.
      The first was a conversation between the twins and Mundungus about illegal substances that he brought for the twins which they wanted for their joke products, to which Harry feared that they may split from the family like Percy when their parents disapprove of their career choice, a choice which Harry financed.
      The second was a conversation between Lupin and Kingsley about Dumbledore not choosing Harry as a prefect where Kingsley said that he should have chose him, not mentioning Harry's momentary disappointment when he found out that Ron became a prefect.
      Moody asked if he was ok, to which Harry lied. So Moody gave him the picture that he found when he was looking for his extra invisibility cloak.
      I liked in the film that it was Sirius who showed it to him as they needed to develop more between them before his death.

    One of my most depressing Parts about this book was when Harry found the mirror after Sirius died and was immediately hit with a wave of depression. He had forgotten entirely that he was given that mirror to communicate with sirius and that all of that could have been avoided if he had just used the mirror and remembered it. It just made him feel guilty and added on to the feeling that he caused his death.

    • @blujay1608
      @blujay1608 2 года назад +75

      That part struck me too, in two ways.
      1) The way you mentioned.
      2) By this time in the book series, J.K. had taught me to pay attention to details and foreshadowing. I was scrutinizing every conversation, and making tons of predictions as I read.
      When Harry found that shard, I was astounded that I had missed it too! I had completely forgotten about its existence. It brought me back to the feeling of reading the first book, and learning how significant that insignificant Nicholas Flamel card was. A piece of useless information that became crucial to the story!
      This is what I miss most about reading the series for the first time. It was so much fun to be a sleuth at Hogwarts right along with Harry and his friends.

    • @KasumiRINA
      @KasumiRINA 2 года назад +7

      Does the book even mention him thinking he could have used it before? Seems like a plot hole to me, he had the mirror all along, and I remembered him having a device to call Sirius while reading, but instead, Harry goes for Hermione's ridiculous plan of invading Umbridge's cabinet again.... like stealing Firebolt would have been SO last book right?
      What was weird that Rowling mentioned mirror AND time turners without explaining characters not even thinking to use them... at least Harry recognizes telling Snape would have been sensible so out of six major ways to fix stuff Potter ignores one is handwaved (literally no explanation of not grabbing a time turner when a whole cabinet of them is falling on them, next book mentions they broke after the fact but that read like damage control).
      Oh also nobody of teachers notices pupils hands bleeding or scarred, and Dolores gets away with CASTING UNFORGIVABLE CURSE in front of dozen witnesses.

    • @the-berries-and-cream-dude
      @the-berries-and-cream-dude 2 года назад +34

      @@KasumiRINA when Sirius gave him the mirror, he told Harry that it was a way to let him know if Snape was giving Harry a hard time with his lessons. At the time Harry didn't know what it was because it was wrapped and Sirius told him to open it later as Mrs. Weasley wouldn't approve (and she was in the room). But Harry thought to himself that he wouldn't used it in fear of what Sirius would do and didn't want him to leave the house, so he forgot about it, didn't opened it and only remember about it after he found it in the bottom of his trunk and saw what it was but at that point, Sirius had already died.
      The reason he didn't use his Firebolt was because it wasn't in Umbridge office, it was moved to the dungeons which was rumor to be guarded by a troll.
      The time turners are very tricky. When they appear in the time room, they were too keen to find Sirius and the prophecy room that they didn't see the time turners, it's only after they are destroyed that it's pointed out what they were. When they were being attacked by the Death Eaters the time turners were destroyed in the process, so there wouldn't be any way to use them. Even if they were to pick on up before, the events of them being in the Ministry of Magic and being surrounded by Death Eaters was gonna happened since they can't change what had already happen.
      As for the hands bleeding, it would only bleed at the moment of writing on the parchment but then it would disappear and the hand was as normal and if done a few days, it didn't leave a mark at most it was pink the next day. In the book it was only mentioned that him and Lee Jordan had had detention with Umbridge. So i don't think a lot of students were hurt so teachers didn't noticed. No one really got a scar except Harry since he did had a go at it for like a week and a half and Ron was the one to realize what Umbridge was doing and Hermione was told. And she never ACTUALLY casted the curse, she was going to but was stopped by Hermione. We know that she would've if she had the chance but she didn't so she gets out of that one by a technically.

    In the book, Ron was appreciative of the fact that Hermione did better than him in their duels and they were playfully bantering about who is better at duelling as Harry walks along with them to the room.
    However in the film, Ron is turned into an overconfident sway idiot who says " don't worry I'll go easy on you" and is rekt by OP Hermione.

    Molly and the Boggart scene
    when Harry walks in and sees the boggart, it’s in the form of a dead Ron, and he’s thrown into shock by the sight. When Sirius walks in, the boggart is in the form of a dead Harry, who must look eerily like the dead best friend that Sirius once had. Sirius continues to stare at the spot where the dead Harry just was, indicating his shock and fear over Harry’s death, but I think it’s also about James’ death, making his reaction parallel to Harry’s about Ron.
    We understand the Harry/Ron relationship better than the James/Sirius relationship because we’ve directly watched it unfold, so it helps us to understand how Sirius felt about James and his death if we think about how Harry would feel about Ron’s death.

He credits him for having "emotional scenes" and doesn't even mention how emotionally impactful it would've been to show the St. Mungos visit where they meet Neville's parents.
      He's welcome to have his own opinion, but IMO this is the best book in the series BECAUSE it's packed to the brim with content and world building that the movie largely left out. I really think this is a prime example of why the HP series would be better suited to a TV show GoT style than movies.

    Some things I actually missed in the movie
    - "Have a biscuit, Potter!"
    - "Harry has always got excellent marks for every exam Defense Against The Dark Arts that was set out by a COMPETENT teacher!"
    - Umbridge's hand coming out of the fireplace and Sirius therefore having to make a run for it
    - The "SNEAK" jinx
    - Fred & George's portable swap
    - The interview Harry gave to Rita Skeeter, Umbridge banning the Quibbler in response, everybody wanting to read it all the teachers (except Snape, of course) suddenly favoriting Harry having him bonus points for the silliest achievements.
    - "Give her hell for us, Peeves!"
    - "Peeves! it unscrews the other way!"
    - McGonagall questioning the justice system as a criminal betrayed Dumbledore's Army's existence to Umbridge escaping Azkaban in the process.
    - Filch getting to Harry thinking he was sending an owl away in order to order some dungbombs (and Cho coming to his defense)
    - "Weasley cannot do a thing, he always lets the quaffle in, that's why Slytherins all sing, Weasley is our king!"
    - Live long ban for playing Quidditch
    - The niffler in Umbridge's office
    - Umbridge being shocked in the hospital wing after Harry comes back from the department of mystery
    - Lockheart still giving out autographs, but still being unable to remember who he was
    - Meeting Alice & Frank Longbottom in St. Mungo's
    - "Dolores, may I remind you I usually don't permit people to talk in my class when I am speaking?" (and the entire checkup of McGonagall's class, and that was so much fun as Umbridge was totally no match for McGonagall's quick wit).
    - Ginny mimicking Umbridge's "hem hem" so extremely well that she scared the crap out of everybody.
    - Umbridge being chased out of the school by Peeves (and McGonagall saying she can't stop him because somebody took her walking cane away.... which she actually appears to have lent to Peeves for that precise purpose).
    - And (as has become a bit usual since POA) at the end Dumbledore doesn't even tell Harry half of the vital stuff he tells Harry about in the novel. Especially since Dumbledore blamed himself for loads of things (which goes even further in TDH when Harry meets Dumbledore's spirit in Limbo).
    - And that includes the notion that the prophecy could have concerned Neville in stead of Harry, but that Voldemort set the prophecy to Harry when he decided to go after Harry in stead of Neville. (The fact that Harry was, like Voldemort, a Half-Blood, is believed to played a role in this decision, as Neville was a Pure-Blood).

Because of that, she keeps crying when she uses the charm, and instead of changing into something amusing, it just changes into another dead figure. I found it sweet that it even turned into Harry - when she says he's as "good as" another child to her, that makes it clear that she really does feel just as maternal towards him as she does towards her own children.

      @haythamfaisal8113 3 года назад +89

      I like how they portrayed Sirius in the film as they needed to flesh out his relationship with Harry before his death.
      But in the defense of the book version, they needed to show his bordom and inability to do anything as he is still wanted and his animagus is exposed by Wormtail to the death eaters. Add to that he is confined to a house he hates with no one to spend time with after his 12 years of Azkaban and two years on the run. He was made for adventure and risk and not for sitting workless and the film didn't go enough into that. Also it culminated when Snape called Sirius a coward when he informed Harry about the occlumency lessons.
      I'll admit that Rowling should have balanced these two versions in the book, as the book Sirius had a whole story on his own.

    • @alpha-sama

However, while Sirius loved Harry for seeing James in him, Snape hated him for that same reason.

    I don't agree that the book has no theme. The most important theme is Harry growing up, learning to appreciate his friends and understanding how important Sirius and other people close to him are. It is especially obvious when you compare Hogwarts Express scenes from the beginning of book 5 and book 6. It book 5, Harry is ashamed to be sitting in a compartment with Neville and Luna, especially when Cho comes in. In book 6, he is suddenly popular and gets invited to join "cool" people, but he refuses to, because he enjoys the company of DA members. This was very powerful, I think.

      I went through something similar to Harry 10 years ago. Lost my Aunt to terminal cancer age just 52. I cried for pretty much a whole week. Before she died, when I knew things weren't looking so good for her, the part of OOTP, where Mr Weasley had been bitten by Nagini and when Harry was thinking, but mr Weasley wasn't going to die... he couldn't, I was both thinking in my head and saying out loud, but Auntie Lou isn't going to die... she can't... but then, she died. It’s still painful remembering her life, my 30 years of life growing up with her being like my own older sister, let alone my mum's nearly 4 years younger sister. She's survived by her 4 children, aged between nearly 17 and 31. It’s not a sign of weakless. Crying is only human, it releases a lot of tension, endorphins, stress. It’s a natural release for anyone's body. You wouldn't be human if you didn't cry. Dumbledore with Harry immediately after the ministry of magic and him seeing Sirius die reminds me of what my mum says when I'm down or having bad times. She says, I know how you're feeling Jen. But, I didn't know what was about to go down with Dumbledore in the next 12 months after that scene.

    I love how you brought attention to the fantastic scene of Harry and Luna in the forest, it's one of my favourite scenes in all the movies, because not only does it set up the Brilliant theme of Harry needing his friends, but it also sets up a real friendship between Harry and Luna far earlier on than in the book series. Harry and Luna's friendship in the film is incredible and I feel like it doesn't get enough recognition.

      I like their friendship, too, but I have to wonder why that friendship took so long to appear between the first book and Order of the Phoenix. I also wonder why somebody as smart as Luna didn't get sorted either into Gryffindor or into Hufflepuff (many Hufflepuff students showed themselves to be quite friendly, as evidenced by Cedric in Goblet of Fire).

      @@shepwillner7507 I think she's Ravenclaw because she's quite intelligent. She is also a foil to the idea of the Ravenclaw members to seem aloof or snobbish. She's observant and quiet, and reminds me of my high functioning autistic son. She has been through trauma with her mother dying, her father being on the eccentric side but as endearing to his daughter, and she's bullied at Hogwarts in such a passive aggressive way. Her strength of character is to be solid in her beliefs, but open and even eager to friendships. Her matter-of-factness is a mirror one to Hermoine's. Luna assumes others think like herself and she isnt out to prove anything. Hermoine's character develops into being protective and Luna's arc develops into her being an integral part of a group and family to be accepted as she is.
      It's much more complicated and nuanced than that, but I am on break on my work so that's my 2 cents for now.

      Most people say (and id agree) that it feels bloated and too long, the ministry battle could have had so much cut out as it lost a lot of excitement due to it being drawn out, many parts go on for multiple chapters without something exiting happening which makes reading those parts a bit of a slog. Its by no means a bad book just not as high standards as the rest of the series

      It has at least half a dozen major plotholes where characters blatantly ignore obvious ways to deal with things and instead, go for some batshit insane method... example, why not ask Snape to contact Sirius? Why not steal Firebolt instead of breaking into Umbridge's office again? Why being pissy with Dumbledore for early in the book? Why not use a time turner that's literally falling into their hands? Why not curse Umbridge with puking candy or something, and make swamp in some random corridor instead? Why not tell on her torturing students, and sending her into Azkaban for trying to use Crucio? Why the hell are they stopping for half an hour to explore the rooms ministry instead of closing door the moment Harry sees it's the wrong room? Film fixes the last one and has them find the veil thingy by accident AFTER the fight... The book is full of headscratching moments like that. I get why people like it, but also understand why it can be the most hated with so many contrivances, though personally I believe proceeding with Goblet of Fire setup without DQ (since when a cup overrides entire ministry of magic if Harry's entrance was obviously cheating?) and ignoring Marauders map when it would solve everything (until one time when it is lost straight after) is worse. The last part also applies to never noticing RON'S RAT BEING A PERSON in previous books.

    Does anyone notice a pattern?
    Steve Kloves: Turns GOF, a popular book, into the worst film in terms of execution.
    Micheal Goldenburg: Turns the least popular book into the best film.
    Steve Kloves: Turns HBP the most popular book into the worst adaptation.
    Thry should have kept Goldenburg for the last three films!!!!

    • @kelinnaidoo5290
      @kelinnaidoo5290 3 года назад +36

      The problem with Kloves was that he gave Ron's lines to Hermione. Kloves favoured Hermione more than Ron which resulted in the change of lines ( which is wrong on Kloves part due to adapting from a book)
      Goldenburg atleast adapted this well ( an 800 page book with many sub plots in it) by keeping the lines in the corresponding characters and pacing it properly. Half blood prince suffered due to it badly adapting the story and Ron's character was just there for comic relief or silence ( as seen in the ending of the movie where Hermione mentions Harry and Ginny and Ron is in the background).
      Goldenburg would have done a better job adapting the Half Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows Pt 1 and 2.

    1) The "lucky you" scene when Hermione coerces Harry to talk to them. It's such an important scene for Ginny because it's a reminder that she wouldn't let her traumatic ordeal from CoS affect her as she has accepted of what she has become onwards. She understands how Harry is going through the Voldemort issues.
