I always took Snape agreeing to the duel with Lockhart as Snape wanting to show everyone how little Lockhart actually knew about defense, seeing as how that was the job he always wanted
A big thing which also proves Dumbledores big plan which isn't in your video. When Harry forgets his cloak on the top of the Astronomy tower Dumbledore gives it back to Harry with a note "Just in Case". Which proves that A) He followed Harry very closely because he knew where he forgot the cloak B) That he wanted Harry to use it to go after Quirell.
that can be way more easily explained by him simply knowing that the cloak is a death's relic. He didn't wanted for himself, but such artifact can't be wandering around aimlessly. He knew that in Harry's hand, it was going to be used against Voldemort, by the person with the highest chance of success. Even tho Dumbledore does indeed plan ahead, that particular move is pretty mundane. Keep in mind that as smart as he is, he didn't saw through Pettigrew's lies til the very end of the 3rd book. I think that by the end of the 4th book Dumbledore finally realized the meaning the of prophecy: Both Voldemort and Harry are invincible, the only ones that can defeat them are each other, and their clash is not of skills, but of wills. That means all his plans are pointless, he just needs to ensure that harry finds the horrocruxes and that his hearth is in the right place once he faces Voldy.
It's honestly a refreshing sight to see someone nerding out and not show the slightest shame or embarrassment, I wish more people were this open or at least comfortable with themselves to do this
Luckily RUclips is filled with channels like this. I love it when we see passionate people making content about the subjects they like, unlike TikTok where you get called a yapper or a nerd, … .
mostly because of public opinion of people gushing over things they like in a place not where the majority of people also like their things. the public thinks its weird which discourages others and that sucks
What are you talking about? It's currently the NORM in society to be "nerdy" about pop culture subjects. These things aren't "underground fandom" anymore. Harry Potter, StarWars, Marvel, etc... are all current mainstream pop culture. If anything, it's "shameful" and "embarrassing" to NOT be into these things.

I read a fanfiction where the Devil's Snare was the trial Dumbledore planned for Neville, whom he thought would also be with the trio that night. I like that theory.
I bet Snape would agree to be the assistant to Lockhart in the dueling class simply because he knew he would not only be allowed, but encouraged, to absolutely obliterate Lockhart in front of the students.
I love the idea that the only misstep Dumbledore made in Philosopher's Stone is assuming, presumably after the antics of the Midnight Duel that they were friends, that Neville would also be with them for the trapdoor - hence the devil's snare, which would be in his greenhouse.

Has anyone notice that Harry "dies" just like all the Preval Brothers. He welcomes death like a old friend like the youngest brother. He walks into a trap which is suicidal with the ghost of his love one just like a the second brother. He also dies from voldemort who wants the ownership of the elder wand from the wands master just like the older brother.
I think that's why Harry had a choice to come back to life. It says he who owns all three hallows is the "master of death". He owned the cloak. Owned the wand, even though unknowingly, and owned the stone.
No. More like harry, owner of the cloak accepts death as an old friend. Snape, longing for a dead love commits suicided by working with the enemy, and Voldemort dies with the elder wand and a false source of ego.
Dumbledore is very aware of the curse on the position of DaDA teacher, which is why he keeps denying the self-destructive but useful Snape and instead repeatedly hires the worst people. He always chooses people that are in need of some punishment (with the exception of Lupin, who was a sacrifice to the curse due to the situation with Sirius in my opinion).
@@zimonzieclown1633 That's true. Maybe Moody volunteered for the position? He wasn't afraid of Deatheaters and had faced curses before. I think either he or Dumbledore must have decided that he was the best choice for a dangerous job.

I will die believing that Dumbledore believed that the trio was supposed to be a quartet with Neville as the 4th. Dumbledore had a plant challenge, went out of his way to give him points and knew he was the alternate Chosen one. He probably saw him as another Peter Pettigrew and figured that if Harry was like James he'd like to have a tag along that boosts his ego.
I was thinking this too!! The plant at the bottom after Fluffy reminded me of Neville because of how his love of plants and herbology bloomed at the end. Made me think Dumbledore already figured this out at the beginning.
This kinda does happen at the end. Neville is Harry’s backup plan when he walks to his death. It didn’t happen like Dumbledore thought it would, but they got there in the end.
I love the idea that DD put the mirror in quarrel's office for the entirety of the Hogwarts year and only occasionally had it moved to test Harry that is now my personal head canon Dumbledore seems like the cheeky kind of person to do that
“Alright quirrel, you’re the DADA teacher this year, you should defend this mirror from Voldemort” Quirrel: Haha dumb old wizard Quirrel after like the whole school year: HOW DO I GET IT >:( As dumbledore is chuckling in his office thinking about it
Very interesting and well thought out. The only part I disagree with is Molly asking what the platform number is on purpose. I always took it as her making sure her children (especially Ron and Ginny at this point) know the platform number. Also, when Fred and George tell their mother who the boy they met is Molly (seems) genuinely surprised. She comments on how he was alone and wondering why. I think the Weasleys were a happy accident if you will.
Yeah, I thought the same thing about her asking the platform number. It's like asking your kids to repeat back something to make sure they know it and are paying attention. Especially considering Ginny's the one who answers
As a lifelong potter fan who has read the books countless times, this series, and this entire channel, make the Harry Potter story feel like it isnt over. Thank you J and Ben! I hope WB hires you you write for the wizarding world someday, because the story deserves it 🖤
I like how you sun up book 5 as dumbledore leaving hog warts in Harry’s hands by allowing his own apprehension. It fits really neatly, as this would be trust - essential for emotional attachment. But also is dumbledore acknowledging the growth of a child. The opposite of what many mentors do to children, despite being the wisest decision.
There is one big thing this theory glosses over, and that's Dumbledore being cursed by the ring between OOTP and HBP. That would have upended his plans badly since Dumbledore presumably thought he would survive much longer than he did. I have to wonder what his original plan was before that happened. Once his time was limited, Dumbledore probably then had to hasten preparing Harry and delegate more responsibilities to Snape. You guys need to do a video on what if Dumbledore wasn't cursed by the ring.
Something I noticed. Dumbledore couldn't have suggested the Weasleys go to Egypt to protect Harry, because Sirius hasn't escaped yet. In fact, it's because of the photo with Scabbers in egypt that prompted him to escape.
I believe what he meant is that he sent them to Egypt to ensure Harry stay with the dursleys to enforce the blood bond no matter what and regardless of Sirius since as you mentioned he scapes after.
^ it only matters for Harry to go back to the Dursleys for a bit though to call it home and keep the blood protection alive, in most other years Harry goes and stays with the Weasleys for some time in the summer. I think the argument they tried to make was that here it would be best that Harry didn’t leave the Dursleys at all with Sirius Black on the loose, but he didn’t actually escape from Azkaban until he sees Peter in the photo of the Weasleys in Egypt
I think Dumbledore was worried about the stir (the stir being the minister not understanding why Sirius wasn't effected by Dementors while Dumbledore took precations when he learned this) Sirius was starting to cause just before he escaped and therefore Dumbledore made a correct assumption that he would escape, but the ministry ignored said warnings so. Hope that made sense.
@@Buffy8Fan Cornelius meeting Sirius still occurs after the Weasleys went to Egypt. This is when Sirius asks for the newspaper with a photo of them in Egypt
I always assumed Dumbledore was essentially putting a hit out for Umbridge by allowing her to teach DotDA. He knew that no one could do it for more than a year, and bad things happened to the last three.
Well, not really to Remus Lupin. Yes he turned into a werewolf, but that's his normal condition. It was someone else who let his secret identity as a werewolf slip out (I figure Snape). He just packed up and left and went underground till book six.
I think Dumbledore had to give Harry and his gang that many points in episode 1 to help Harry feel accepted. Remember in the book they lost so 150 points for being out after dark to help Hagrid, which Dumbledore I'm sure new about. And the whole school thinks it was as a prank on Malfoy and nobody is talking to Harry even after all of his success for the team playing quidditch because they think he's selfish. By giving out all the points to take the house cup back Harry's lost points are forgotten and he's a house hero.
It is true that he gives Gryffindor house the most points because of Harry's actions, but I also find it interesting that those points made Gryffindor tied with Slytherin. And then, Dumbledore gives ten points to Neville Longbottom, and those are the points that makes Gryffindor win the House Cup. So who's the real house hero: Harry or Neville? I'm not sure the answer is clear. It could be either of them, imo.
On the point of filling the role of defense against the dark arts teacher, I think it's kind of similar to having to sacrifice a piece in chess for Dumbledore due to the curse of the position. At the point of the Order of the Phoenix, he probably didn't feel he had any pieces left he could afford to lose so allowed the ministry to fill the position
To be fair, Harry states outright that he only saved Wormtail so that Sirius and Lupin wouldn’t become killers, and his line “I said we’d take you to the castle, after that the dementors can have you.” suggests, to me at least, that he was hoping that Wormtail would receive the dementor’s kiss after they handed him over.
Harry didnt believe in killing to make a point The only way to prevent Voldemort from rising to power, is to kill him. But 6+ years are spent trying to stop him, just stop him. The Wormtail scene is out of character even by movie standard
A pivotal moment in Book 7 is Harry's realization about the Elder Wand's true allegiance. This revelation sheds light on the intricacies of wand lore and the events leading up to it. Dumbledore, in his wisdom, orchestrated his own death with Snape's cooperation. His intent was clear: to die undefeated, thereby ensuring the Elder Wand would not recognize a new master. If simply planning or mock duels could alter the wand's loyalty, then the numerous training sessions Harry undertook with the Dumbledore's Army might have had catastrophic implications. However, the wand's allegiance is not so easily swayed. The unexpected twist came when Draco, in a spontaneous act, disarmed Dumbledore, marking a genuine defeat. This act inadvertently made Draco the wand's new master. Similarly, at Malfoy Manor, Harry's act of disarming Draco, though unrelated to the Elder Wand directly, shifted its allegiance once more. These events underscore the wand's fickle nature, which hinges on genuine confrontations. Dumbledore's master plan never accounted for the Elder Wand passing its allegiance beyond him. He believed that his premeditated death with Snape would break its cycle of masters. Further emphasizing the unpredictability of fate and choices, Harry's presence at Malfoy Manor was purely fortuitous. His unguarded use of Voldemort's name led to his capture. It was this unforeseen twist of events, coupled with Harry's decisions during his captivity, that made him the true master of the Elder Wand, highlighting the overarching theme: power, especially one as elusive as the Elder Wand's, is not always about possession but also about destiny and choices.
Personally i like the theory that Molly specifically saw q lost boy with an owl alone trying to find his way qnd her motherly instinct instantly took over, so she said it to help him without being fully obvious.
In the book the first boy Harry meets is Draco Malfoy in Diagon Alley though. If Dumbledore really had such a complicated plan to control Harry's social contacts, it could have failed almost immediately. It was only "saved" by Draco being Draco and insulting Hagrid which put Harry off. Also, Dumbledore got also lucky that the Dursley's treatment of Harry didn't turn him into a grudge-bearing muggle-hater once he was told that he was special. That one gets me all the time, good thing Harry had the patient of a saint!
@@cei5140 Why? Harry never knew his parents, but he had to endure the Dursley's hostility 24/7 since he was a baby and never had any muggle friends. He could become a muggle-hater and still be opposed to Voldemort, because he'd hate him out of personal reasons rather than ideological ones. People can be nazis and hate other nazis.
@@shiroamakusa8075 I see ur point, however having magical powers almost makes u god like in comparison to muggles. Like it's easy for humans to torture animals, yet most people choose not to
@@cei5140 Actually, it's NOT easy for humans to outright torture animals. Those who do tend to have some sort of disorder or suffered from extremely bad parenting. Most people don't actively "choose" to not torture animals, the thought doesn't enter their minds in the first place. Likewise wizards treating muggles with contempt and condescension is not a "natural" occurence, it's a result of toxic attitudes being carefully nurtured.
The problem with the theory that Dumbledore convinced the Weasley's to go to Egypt and not invite Harry for the Summer Holiday, is that Sirius Black didn't even attempt to escape Azkaban until he saw the picture of the Weasley family from Egypt taken by the Daily Prophet and recognized Pettigrew in the photo. If Dumbledore wanted the Weasley's out of the way and wanted them to not invite Harry for the summer, it remains to be seem why that would be. There was no danger at that time.
I finally came up with an answer! It's a weird one, and my actual headcanon is JK intended what the brothers said and also failed to realize the problem, but in universe: Dumbledore has a Time Turner, or at least access to one. Time travel in HP seems to be a closed loop (like in GoT: "The past is written. The ink is dry."). The whole Weasleys travelling to Egypt nonsense happens, leading Sirius to escape. Dumbledore learns of the escape almost immediately and comes up with the plan described in the video, going back in time to do it. Sirius always escapes - because Dumbledore always protects Harry, even if it means going back in time.
what I always found odd is that dumbledore sent the students to their dormitories when quirrel said there was a troll in the dungeons, when the Slytherin dormitories are IN THE DUNGEONS! where the troll is!
Lilly's blood would have anchored harry to life whether harry thought he might survive or not. Harry thinking he would die, and sacrificing himself to protect the students gave the students the same protection from Voldemort he got from Lilly's sacrifice. Thus Voldemort's death was certain as soon as he tried to kill any of Harry's allies, as the spell would rebound. I believe that was the original plan before he knew Harry could survive.
We might need a new video about Harry in Slytherin from a Dumbledore’s big plan point of view, since it’d be interesting to know his reaction to Harry ending up in the “wrong” house
How could Voldemort possibly believe that he was the only student to ever discover the Room of Requirement? The place was full of mountains of items that students had hidden there for the past thousand years. The obvious paradox that nobody else ever found a room full of things people had abandoned would cause my head to explode.
I remember that in the books it can be read somewhere that Voldemort believed himself to be the one that had discovered the most of Howgarts secrets, so maybe it was obvious that random students knew about some random places, passages and stuff, but not all of them collectively at the same time as him, like if he was the only one with a complete anthology of secrets of Hogwarts. Like "ok, some have found about 2 or 3 secrets about Howgarts, but I know 20 of them, no one else knows this much, I'm the greatest wizard", it was that arrogance that ultimately condemned him.
I mean the room could have created all those things. It creates stuff out of thin air through out the books. Maybe Voldemort didn't know the difference between created things and real things
I think the "Molly doesn't know what platform" thing was just her checking to make sure her kids remembered. I've taught kids English, and one way we make sure kids are understanding is by asking them questions like this. You might say, in an excited tone, "and what number comes after four?" So that they say five. You obviously know it's 5 when you're asking. So I think it was more her checking that her youngest kids are committing it to memory.
But her kids are 9, 11, 13, and 15, if I recall the younger Weasleys’ ages correctly. Plus the younger kids will have been seeing their other brothers off to school a long time before that. Ginny will have gone with her parents who knows how many times to wave her siblings off, so she has this committed to heart and doesn’t need the reminder. And who knows how many times will the platform have been mentioned in various conversations at home as well. Those kids know the platform number. It was definitely for Harry’s benefit.
@@spanglelime the fact she's gone to the platform doesn't necessarily mean she's memorized it. I was taken a lot of places when I was young, but that didn't mean I always knew how to get there on my own. Since Ginny hadn't gone to Hogwarts yet, it's not guaranteed she's going to remember. 🤷♀️ I think, in reality, we're thinking way more about this line than JK did when she wrote it. Lol.
It all just makes so much sense, probably the best theory ever Also I love the idea that Dumbledore wanted Neville to originally be with the trio since he put in the devils snare. Dumbledore knew Neville had some kind of great power because he could have been the chosen one.
can we appreciate the huge character growth of Dumbledore. In Half-Blood Prince, for his first private lesson with Harry, the 3 deathly hallows are together in one room. Dumbledore assures this by leaving the ring on display, obviously having his wand on him and instructing Harry to keep the cloak on him at all times, even within the castle. Yet Dumbledore, once so driven and blinded by the Hallows and knowing full well that he is dying makes no move to either seize all three or mention the significance of them being in the same room to Harry, instead being content to be the man who united the hallows but explicitly have one still possessed by the only other person in the room.
I've read the books 2 times now and I gotta say, I always come back to your videos on not just this, but other various things you guys cover. You're an epic duo and seem like you'd be really fun to hang with.
Book 3: Sirius breaks out of Azkaban BECAUSE he saw the picture of Ron holding Scabbers in the Daily Prophet when Fudge visited the prison. So dumbledore couldn't have known that he would break out, because it was the picture that made him start saying "he's a hogwarts". It was because of this that he got stronger and was able to break out.
I actually do not understand why Sirius seeks to find Potter first and also does it in a way that will definitely scare him. Also I do not understand, if Lupin was in OoP, why they did not disscussed the innocence of Sirius inside the Orden? Also, if D knows how dangerous Sirius is, why does he let Potter roam free (he knows that Harry has the map after Sirius saw him in the hall)? He definately understands that Hermione used time-travel since the bird was not in the place, so he must realise that he is missing out smth important from that point.
@@oleksandrkuznyetsov8324 It's because Harry is all he has left from his beloved friend. not a very wise thing to do, but do you expect somebody who just got tortured by dementors for several years to make a wise decision?
@@oleksandrkuznyetsov8324 Because Lupin sincerely beleived that Sirius was guilty. Right until the very moment he spotted Wormtail on the map. Sirius wanted to see Harry because he was emotionally attached to Potters in general. Also he wasn't the most reasonable person.
I love how petty the hat is. Calling Harry out in front of the whole school. It's so funny. Ironically Snape probably wouldn't have trained to be such a great dualist if James and friends hadn't bullied him for 7 years. I'm certain his determination to defend himself against them was at least a part of what drove him to be an Auror-level master.
I know Mrs. Weasley asking about the platform number really supports the Dumbledore's Plan theory. But I've always assumed that it was just something you would ask out loud for the benefit of your youngest child, Ginny, so she would feel more included since she can't go until the next year. But Mrs. Weasley asking out loud fits so well with the theory that it's almost impossible to argue lol
That's pretty crazy, two days ago I got reminded of "dumbledores big plan" and wanted to re-watch it and now you upload this. Thanks a lot for the convenience :)
I might have a new 8 part remaining for you guys: What if Harry grew up in the Wizarding World? How would that change the events? Which family would take in Harry?
That is interesting, but I am not sure how it is going to work. Maybe if he was given as a baby to Lupin, but I am not sure how that would play out. On a somewhat related side note, Naruto from the Naruto franchise was left with no family to live with because everyone knew he carried part of the Nine Tailed Fox Kurama's spirit within him. The same fox that attacked the Hidden Leaf Village and killed many civilians. INCLUDING Naruto's parents. His father was the 4th Hokage, though Naruto didn't know about this until years later. And his mother was a powerful woman within the Uzumaki clan, who are descended from the Senju clan where the First and Second Hokage were born and raised. Maybe Harry's journey begins in a similar way. Maybe people were more aware of the idea of horcruxes but many still believed that it was a bad idea to split one's soul many times, which further taints the remainder of the soul still left in the body. But one day, some people heard a rumour about Voldemort losing to an infant and that part of his soul was transferred into Harry. So now Harry has abilities similar to Voldemort, and it has people fearing that Harry would become the next Voldemort because he had a piece of Voldemort's soul inside of him, much like how Naruto was ostricized and feared by those around him because he had a piece of the very being that destroyed the village inside of him as well. This probably goes not much of anywhere but the similarities and differences between Naruto and Harry Potter cannot be ignored. Maybe this is a good lead to see where the story could go. Like, Harry lives in the Wizarding world but is feared because he has a piece of Voldemort's soul trapped inside of him, and how the rest of the Wizarding world shuns him out of everything because of this fact.
Regarding book 3, here's a question: if the Dementors hadn't swept the Hogwarts Express, what would the boggart have turned into? Would Harry have learned the Patronus charm? Is it possible that Dumbledore *wanted* Harry to experience Dementors as a way to introduce him to despair, and then have an opportunity to teach him to fight through it? It also gave him a unique introduction to Lupin, one that adds a dash of trust prior to classes even beginning
Yes that exactly explained why Dumbledore, let the dementors in , To set them up as his prime fear then teaching via bogart how to counter them because he knew they would be voldemort's go to creatures in the war
@@siddharthsharma9283 No, he let them on the grounds of Hogwarts because he, like everyone else, thought that Sirius posed a great risk to Harry's life. He didn't even really want them there to begin with.
Sounds kinda risky, if the Dementors just entered another compartment there wouldnt have been Lupin who stopped it from turning students into vegetable
The more the plan hinges on the pensive the more I'm thinking that Dumbledore could have used Harry's memory from the graveyard to convince Fudge that Voldemort had returned. The memories were fresh in Harry's mind and he knew about the pensive at the time. They did have more important things to worry about, like the whereabouts of Mad Eye. But this was a possibility, they also could have used this to clear Sirius' name by showing the ministry what went down in the shrieking shack. The man had to disguise himself as a dog to see his Godson on the train to school and was stuck in a place he hated for around 12 months.
Unfortunately memory modification is a thing that exists in WW, so it really wouldn't have been all that convincing. Same sorts of reasons that Verita Serum wouldn't have helped, either
@@blak4831 i mean, even if they did use the method for proving voldemorts return, or trying to clear sirius's name, well Sirius is still an unregistered animagi, which is illegal
The problem is not only can memory be modified, but if someone is say, insane, their memory would be unreliable as it would only show what the person believes happened
^^^^^ Memory altercation, plus the human element You dont have to "be insane" to see something that wasent there, or not knowing exactly how something happened and filling in the gaps logically So if Harry was "told" the man who killed Sedrick was Voldemort, who could disprove it? Everyone ether thinks hes dead, or is following him. So who knows what he looks like Also being a horrifying experience, someone can argue his memory is flawed to begin with. The emotional damage would fester as a childhood memory, and Harry may or may not have a previous encounter with said dark lord
I really wish more channels took the time and respected their viewers the way you two have done with this one. Some I've subbed to do end up doing all the videos in one, but they don't always take the ads/intros/outros out, so it's obvious they've literally just thrown the OG files together. That you guys have taken the time to clean each episode up so we get a full experience of the series is amazing. Thank you.
I'm just picturing Harry becoming an Aurer and getting threatened by a dark wizard and he just looks them like "Dude, I've LITERALLY already died once. What could you POSSIBLY threaten me with?"
I definitly think that Harry not knowing he could survive had more to do with the sacrificial magical love protection it would give the people he was sacrificing himself for, rather than it being because he would not survive if he knew he could.
The saving intent Harry had for all his friends and school definitely would have played into it. But, I think there was more than that when Harry was brought to Number 4 Privet Drive. The protection Harry had there was a spell placed on the house because of Harry's blood tie with Aunt Petunia that would break when he would stop calling it home (ill-feelings about it notwithstanding). This is not the same as Harry's mother's courageous defiance of Voldemort and her death conferring love protection on Harry. I think Dumbledore created the spell at Privet Drive using the power of the blood connection between Harry, Petunia, and Lily.
The math checks out for the KNOWN times Molly Weasley was at platform 9 3/4, but like you said, she has two older brothers. She most likely went with her family to drop them off on the platform before going to Hogwarts herself, just like Ginny does in the first book.
Hey bro, just watched movie flame's reaction to your "Dumbledore's Plan" video. Really great work, was super interested the entire way through. Keep up the great work!
The difference is that Dumbledore wanted the powers of the Elder Wand to die with his death because he planned his loss and death with Snape. Therefore, the battle would be even at the end and neither Harry or Voldemort would benefit because the powers ended. Which I'm pretty sure Harry states at the end of Deathly Hallows to Ron and Hermione at the end of the battle (that's why he puts it back in Dumbledore's grave/breaks it, in the movies). However, it doesn't work that way as you mention, Draco disarms Dumbledore and the power remains.
I feel like Molly was just playfully saying this to her youngest daughter to make sure the little girl knew where they were and where she would be going in future years. If you spend any time with kids, you know you do this all the time with them.
No it was about him seeing his family I mean think about it the most common "deepest desires of the heart" are fame & wealth so not many people would see their family
I think all the things you said about Dumbledore's choices for Defense Against the Dark Art teacher could apply to the other students as well. Dumbledore knew these students would have to go through some tough times coming of age at the same time as the chosen one.
Dumbledore's speech at the end-of-term feast in fourth year said as much when he remembered Cedric and also the friendships made that year for the Tri-Wizard Tournament. In sixth year in the beginning feast, Dumbledore said that the dark forces have as their greatest weapon the students themselves. Also that happiness can be found in the darkest of places when one only remembers to turn on the light. I think that was at the beginning feast of third year. He says things like this every feast. Indeed he is addressing a hall full of transforming people as much as witches and wizards, from puberty to age of majority.
@@ginnyjollykidd Well, except for the first year. In that one, he just says weird words like "nitwit", "blubber", "oddment", and "tweak". Which I still find funny!
After being away for a long time from the fandom of HP, and HP itself being the actual first book and series I ever read when I was a kid, watching this breakdown of the story from this kinda of perspectice is truly a nostalgic, amazing and surprising thing to watch. I rarely give thumbsup and subscribe to a channel due to ONE video, but man, you deserve it. Your way of telling this story, in such a clear and constructive way, is again, amazing. Despite all the drama involving Rowling and HP, what a detailed and wonderful universe/characters we were presented in the last decades, definetly being the pillar of my taste of books and pop culture in general.
109:41 I must say, there is another weird thing. ''The Love charm/Lovecrux only works in places that he calls home, but yet Harry has never yet once thought of Private Drive as his home. He considered Hogwarts was his home....which could explain a lot
I thought Molly Weasley just asked for the platform number to keep Ginny occupied so she wouldn't run off or be annoying. Y'know, as mothers do. When you don't want your kids to think up their own mischief you lead the conversation with something harmless you know they're excited about, and Ginny is very excited about wanting to go to Hogwarts. That said, yes it was pretty contrived
I've tried getting your guys opinion on this before but it's never reached you. When you originally posted this you gave me the idea that Dumbledore had planned on Neville to be closer friends with Harry and I would love another series like this, or maybe just a single video exploring how the story would have been different if the Golden Trio... 40:33 wait but this theory suggests that Dumbledore asked the Weasley’s to go to Egypt so that they would have an excuse to not invite Harry over because Sirius was on the loose, but Sirius broke out because he saw the Weasleys in the paper, so what happened first?

Right at the beginning of Philosophers stone, Dumbledore absoloutely did not intend Harry to get his hogwarts letter at privet drive. All the hijinks with sending all the letters to the dursleys house was not for Harry to read, but to torment and prank the Dursleys for there poor treatment of Harry. I mean if he really wanted Harry to get his letter then, he would make it appear on Harrys bed when he is alone in his room. If he can put them inside the dursleys eggs then he can make one appear on Harrys lap when Noone is around! He intended for Harry to get his letter with Hagrid there to provide a explanation!
I just realized. In the Chamber of Secrets (or at least the movie version of it), they didn't even need to cast 'Alochomora" to get to the room with Fluffy. They could just simply lift the bar with their fingers sice the locking mechanism was so conveniently left wide open and located from the outside...
It is actually Philosophers Stone (Book 1), not Chamber of Secrets that you are thinking of. And I completely agree with you, it's quite hilarious to see considering Ron also comments that it is locked and they can't get in right before Hermoine casts the unlocking spell.
I've just recently started watching your Harry Potter videos and it's so nice that, unlike some other Harry Potter influencers and vlogger's, you have clearly read the books. I love listening to the in depth theories, thanks a lot.
Very well thought out! I think this holds some weight, however I don't think Dumbledore thought Sirius betrayed his friends. He actually went AGAINST his pure blood household and joined Gryffindor (a characteristic that goes against the Death Eaters, Slytherin, and Voldemort) and was VERY loyal to James Potter going through school. He suspected that Sirius was the secret keeper, but did not know WHO the real betrayer was. I think Dumbledore knew that Pettigrew was alive (Marauder's map and probably put it in Filch's desk suspecting that Fred and George would find it) and wanted Harry to figure out the truth on his own (thus teaching him the valuable lesson to not believe everything he hears, and to look for his own answers). This was a way for him to disregard what others said about Dumbledore (and even Snape) and encourage him to look for the truth (a very Dumbledore like quality).
I believe Harry was meant to take over for Dumbledore. What we could see is a new book series where Harry is the headmaster 50 years after the end of the series. The question is, what conflicts would the students have to face?
@@EdthePlumber Harry would be a supporting character and we would have a new main character. The question for picking would be who's grandchild would be the new lead? It would still take place in the wizarding world and would most likely be someone we don't know for the plot twist relating to Fantastic Beasts.
1:35:30 Whoa, just whoah... I've thought about that too much when I was reading Deathly Hallows, I couldn''t guess that Voldemort didn't use the Killing Curse on Snape using the wand because he believed Snape to be its master. You're a genius, dude!
Do you think Dumbledore's big plan accounted for the possibility of Harry being sorted into slytherin? It would be interesting to see what would be different in that scenario
Oh my god, can I just say thank you for explaining the triumphant gleam? Even after reading these books countless times and knowing that quote from DH, I never understood why Dumbledore was happy about Voldemort taking Harry’s blood. It makes so much sense now!
I kept it in the back of my mind. Was actually my favorite line in the whole series. In princes tale I began to think that harry might be invincible here. And to an extent, I was right.
I dunno if I brought this up on the original video, but I like the idea that the "second chamber of secrets" where they store the stone in book 1 is actually more like a second 'room of requirements'. We know said room can expand to fit the needs of its user - in book 7 it kept getting bigger as more people came to hide in it. So the fact that a similar space exists beneath the trap door isn't such a big stretch. The only REAL issue is that they never use it again or even mention it.
I always thought - especially after OotP - that Dumbledore was using legillimency to look into Harry's mind during those questions in CoS. There are just too many instances where Harry says he felt like his thoughts were being x-rayed. By Snape, too!
I went to watch this and was immediately confused, which led me down the path of rereading all 7 books over the past month. So happy I got to watch this now with the understanding it deserves. Thank you!
Always saw Mrs Weasley and her "what's the platform number" as her being a mom letting her youngest be involved in the moment. She seems like she would want ginny to not feel left out
I must say, you done well to put it all together, it just shows that Dumbledore was a lot more than meets the eye. He knew everything about people and situations because he was very skilled at occulemence. He was aware of everything and still let it happen. He has been manipulating the timeline since the 80s...or perhaps earlier than than that. He knew more than he gives credit for....and he knows more than he likes to admit. How much did he know? That will remain the mystery, but there is a lot that could have been avoided and changed. Saying that he allowed it to happen is an understatement. He knew about Wormtail, Quarrel and everything else. He knew what would happen that night. if Harry only knew what his favourite sensei/teacher did and has been doing. I am sure not many of us know either, but this story is clever put. Thanks for doing this. Since Dumbledore knew Voldemort's secret, he and Horace Slughorn could have been going after the Horcruxes themselves without dragging anyone else involved. I know the Prophecy comes into question, but still. It could have already been done long before the Potters were sacrificed to make the ''accidental 7th Horcrux....but 7 is what we know of. Since Voldemort lost control, anything could have become one, which means there could be more. As Arthur Weasley once said, ''Dumbledore doesn't miss a trick, he knows everything.'' It does make me wonder a lot here....anyway sorry for the ramble and thanks for sharing .
I think Dumbledore knew that everyone still had their own path to follow, choices to make and dreams to pursue. Could he have prevented certain deaths and suffering? Probably. But to become the person we are destined to be, we have to take the responsibility for every step we make. The villain might die earlier or be sent to a mental institution to prevent harm but that doesn’t mean you won’t suffer, loose loved ones or question your life choices. Precognition can be a powerful tool but it doesn’t make you a god, you aren’t allowed to make decisions for others. You can nudge them towards a direction but the ultimate final decision lies in their hands. Dumbledore was written to be not only an amazing wizard but someone who knew which things truly mattered. I think he didn’t just want to stop Voldemort, he wanted to bring out the best of everyone. Including Tom Riddle, to the very last moment. You could say it was the Weaslies fault that Fred died. Since they could have ordered their kids to stay somewhere safe. But nobody thinks that because it was his decision to fight for this cause. Same with every decision Dumbledore made.
If Dumbledore arranged this all so that Harry could face Voldemort, what if he put a fake philosopher's stone in the mirror? Would be very reckless to have Harry retrieve it only to have Voldemort then grab it.
@@joshuahirst7218 Dumbledore said that Nicholas had enough life potion left to "put his affairs in order and then, yes. He would die." So he could have already destroyed it.
Something just clicked to me. The death plant obstacle in the philosophers stone, was meant for Neville. Dumbledore knew Neville was the back-up in the prophecy. But Neville chose a different path, which Dumbledore feared that Neville might continue to stop them. Dumbledore planned on training Neville just incase
DUh I forgot about that. I would prefer that Neville was included in the trio and Ron was NOT. Because he is so F***ing USELESS!!! I mean - asking Hermione to do his homework for him all the time - the boy is just greedy (cannot eat with his mouth closed AND grabbing all of Harrys sweets on the train) and lazy!!

@@francescathomas3502 hard disagree. Your depiction sounds more like MovieRon. BookRon serves as our guide into the wizarding world, he is our connection to the Weasley family and he is on the same level as Harry education wise. Neville is the one you could describe at useless (for the cause) for the first three books. He is more of a passive and cautious character and I assume he would hold Harry back in the beginning.

This is one of my favourite channels I binge all the time while working thanks The curse that Voldemort put on the defence against the dark arts class I think it must of been a spell to make worst fears come true. @@didreams969 year 7 was Amycus Carrow who never tried to find Voldemort and avoided Azkaban the first time then rejoined the death eaters taught students the Cruciatus curse then had it used on him by Harry a student and was sent to jail
I like your reasoning that Dumbledore would have encouraged the Weasleys to befriend Harry, but that would presuppose that she lied to the twins when they told her they met Harry and she said, "is he really? I wondered why he was alone. He was ever so polite when he asked how to get onto the platform."
Well, she could have assumed that Harry was with the Dursleys. She certainly does not know at this point the amount of abuse Harry faced. But I always thought it was odd that muggleborns weren’t somehow guided… The I thought it might be because Harry is not muggleborn so he does not get the standardized introduction but instead the very simple world view of Hagrid, ensuring Dumbledores influence over him. Afterwards the guidance of the very light family of the Weasleys, in Harry’s eyes a perfect family with love and fun making Harry want to belong to this circle (instead of the cold, might driven Slytherins). Leaving Molly highly concerned about Harry (without time to ask why he was so lonely and abused, at least in the first year) helps to let the relationship grow quickly.

Bingo
A big thing which also proves Dumbledores big plan which isn't in your video. When Harry forgets his cloak on the top of the Astronomy tower Dumbledore gives it back to Harry with a note "Just in Case". Which proves that A) He followed Harry very closely because he knew where he forgot the cloak B) That he wanted Harry to use it to go after Quirell.
Interesting, what was the circumstances of Harry being on that tower? Was it that thing with the Hagrids dragon?
@@sebastiantomczyk4577
Yes, that was indeed the case.
@@Magere-Kwark thanks
And that Harry would not be at the astronomy tower at the dead of night if he were going to be doing mischief.
that can be way more easily explained by him simply knowing that the cloak is a death's relic.

Wow. The web in the books are amazing
I think that's why Harry had a choice to come back to life. It says he who owns all three hallows is the "master of death".
He owned the cloak. Owned the wand, even though unknowingly, and owned the stone.
wow...never noticed, that is amazing.
No. More like harry, owner of the cloak accepts death as an old friend. Snape, longing for a dead love commits suicided by working with the enemy, and Voldemort dies with the elder wand and a false source of ego.
Yeah because he uses the deathly hallows...
I think Snape would have been interested in the dueling club. 1) He always wanted the DADA job and 2) he could humiliate Lockheart
And he'd get to be cruelt to Harry using Draco. In the books he never missed a chance to mess with him.

Dumbledore is very aware of the curse on the position of DaDA teacher, which is why he keeps denying the self-destructive but useful Snape and instead repeatedly hires the worst people.
Ohmigosh! I never thought of that! Thank you.
I was thinking this too!! The plant at the bottom after Fluffy reminded me of Neville because of how his love of plants and herbology bloomed at the end. Made me think Dumbledore already figured this out at the beginning.
In the book, Harry instructs Neville to kill Nagini in case something happened to Harry. He stated "there would still be three of them."
This kinda does happen at the end. Neville is Harry’s backup plan when he walks to his death. It didn’t happen like Dumbledore thought it would, but they got there in the end.

But also is dumbledore acknowledging the growth of a child. The opposite of what many mentors do to children, despite being the wisest decision.
Your grammar is terrible

Was just about to mention this.

Spot on
I think Dumbledore had to give Harry and his gang that many points in episode 1 to help Harry feel accepted.
In the movie, right after that, Harry says, "after that, the dementors can have you." That is a movie thing so I guess take that with a grain of salt.
Harry didnt believe in killing to make a point
The only way to prevent Voldemort from rising to power, is to kill him. But 6+ years are spent trying to stop him, just stop him.

I hate how he breaks it without even fixing his own wand first in the movies

I mean his parents got murdered by a muggle-hater who was special. It would be quite hypocritical for Harry to become one too
@@cei5140 Why? Harry never knew his parents, but he had to endure the Dursley's hostility 24/7 since he was a baby and never had any muggle friends. He could become a muggle-hater and still be opposed to Voldemort, because he'd hate him out of personal reasons rather than ideological ones. People can be nazis and hate other nazis.

It's a weird one, and my actual headcanon is JK intended what the brothers said and also failed to realize the problem, but in universe:
Dumbledore has a Time Turner, or at least access to one.

Lilly's blood would have anchored harry to life whether harry thought he might survive or not. Thus Voldemort's death was certain as soon as he tried to kill any of Harry's allies, as the spell would rebound. I believe that was the original plan before he knew Harry could survive.
Absolutely, isn’t that the point of the Kings Cross chapter?

How could Voldemort possibly believe that he was the only student to ever discover the Room of Requirement? The place was full of mountains of items that students had hidden there for the past thousand years. The obvious paradox that nobody else ever found a room full of things people had abandoned would cause my head to explode.
I think its meant to imply that Voldemort was the only one to completely understand how the room works
@@aidancoleman1288 Or that Voldemort was so arrogant that he often o overlooked the obvious.
Maybe Voldemort didn't know the difference between created things and real things
he was pretty arrogant, he thought he was special and had something other normal wizards couldn't discover/use correctly.
Also I love the idea that Dumbledore wanted Neville to originally be with the trio since he put in the devils snare.

Thanks for pointing that out!! Was too getting doubts about that part in the video !!
Was going to say the same, checking to make sure it wasn't already said.

Ironically Snape probably wouldn't have trained to be such a great dualist if James and friends hadn't bullied him for 7 years. I know Mrs. Weasley asking about the platform number really supports the Dumbledore's Plan theory. But I've always assumed that it was just something you would ask out loud for the benefit of your youngest child, Ginny, so she would feel more included since she can't go until the next year.

I might have a new 8 part remaining for you guys: What if Harry grew up in the Wizarding World? How would that change the events? Which family would take in Harry?
Then we have a spin off: what if Harry was in the wizarding world + in Slytherin.
YES
Easiest way I see that happening is if sirous doesn't go to azabakan somehow and raises him at Grimaldi.

^^^^^
Memory altercation, plus the human element
You dont have to "be insane" to see something that wasent there, or not knowing exactly how something happened and filling in the gaps logically
So if Harry was "told" the man who killed Sedrick was Voldemort, who could disprove it? Everyone ether thinks hes dead, or is following him. So who knows what he looks like
Also being a horrifying experience, someone can argue his memory is flawed to begin with. The emotional damage would fester as a childhood memory, and Harry may or may not have a previous encounter with said dark lord
I really wish more channels took the time and respected their viewers the way you two have done with this one.
Was looking for this comment!
I feel like Molly was just playfully saying this to her youngest daughter to make sure the little girl knew where they were and where she would be going in future years.
If you spend any time with kids, you know you do this all the time with them.
The line where Dumbledore says how few people could have seen what Harry saw was about him seeing the Philosopher's Stone, but not wanting to use it
No it was about him seeing his family I mean think about it the most common "deepest desires of the heart" are fame & wealth so not many people would see their family

Whose to say he didn't. And Nickolas hadn't already destroyed the stone years ago?
@@rachelguderjahn2231 Nicholas was still alive as harry was confronting quirrell so he can't have destroyed it
@@joshuahirst7218 Dumbledore said that Nicholas had enough life potion left to "put his affairs in order and then, yes. He would die."
So he could have already destroyed it.
@@rachelguderjahn2231 fair enough. Been a while since ive read PS I must admit
@@joshuahirst7218 No worries! I enjoyed the discussion. Thank you for keeping it civil. This was a lot of fun. 😊
But nevile did not show that he was good at herbology unti later in his school life.
@@bradleygendall583 you are correct, at least we don't see it. Maybe growing up he new he liked it but didn't have a great chance to express it. Dumbledore being Dumbledore wanted to give him a chance to be helpful if he went. It's all theory though
Dumbledore knew Neville wasn't the one since he was an infant. He was able to confirm the prophecy could only be about Harry the moment Voldemort "marked him as his equal."
11:42 I always just thought Dumbledore used magic to create all that space using magic, like Newt's briefcase
An Undetectable Extension Charm. Same thought
That's a good point, Moody should have worn an eyepatch. His magical eye would see right through it, and it would just hide that he has it. Sounds like exactly the kind of thing he would do
Hey brother!! Love your long form Theroy videos and I really appreciate that you cut this together for easy rewatch ability. Keep up the solid wizardinf work 🧙♂️🧙♂️
This is one of my favourite channels I binge all the time while working thanks
The curse that Voldemort put on the defence against the dark arts class I think it must of been a spell to make worst fears come true. Quarrel was killed by a pupil, Lockhart lost his fame, Lupin was outed as a werewolf, Crouch was caught and kissed by a dementor Umbridge was carried off by half breeds and Snape dies a traitor.
how about for year 7..
@@didreams969 year 7 was Amycus Carrow who never tried to find Voldemort and avoided Azkaban the first time then rejoined the death eaters taught students the Cruciatus curse then had it used on him by Harry a student and was sent to jail
@@2muchcoffee thanks.. well Azkaban was probably his fear
@@SiuresHarry must've told the weasleys at some point about what the dursleys were like as it says in gof that Molly always refrained from criticizing them in front of Harry but her eyes flashed & she pursed her lips when Harry said he thought the dursleys had come to see him
@@mindovermatterbecomingyour1561 Yes, later. But at this point (first meeting at King's Cross) not.
