There is this whole thing going on with them, Lupin going on dangerous missions to stay away from Tonks, and Tonks being so depressed that she looses her metamorphmagus powers, and het patronus change and many other things...One of the best "scene" in the books when Harry asks Lupin about hoe could her patronus change, and Remus and Molly are just like "shit" 😂 Oh and don't forget the scene when everyone is around Bill after he was bitten by Greyback, and Tonks tells Remus that she loves him, and even McGonagall ships them, that is such a powerful scene. (And when Fleur sais she is pretty enough for both og them, that is superior) I really loved these in the books and I'm so mad that they totally left it out from the movie. They should have not include that many scene with Lavender and the awkward Hinny stuff, In my opinion Tonks and Lupin, and Bill and Fluer are a lot more interesting

      THIS! One of the main reasons why I loved the books more than the movies. I mean, I loved the film adaptations from 1 to 4, but starting from the 5th one, I just stopped watching. Ironically, the 5th book was my most favorite out of all the HP books.

    • @clairel33
      @clairel33 4 года назад +5

      @@BlazeStar2095 @Mhel Lopez i love the 5th book too. At least i did, haven't reread hp book for some years.
      Sirius was less pleasant than before. But i still put it within understandable range, he did spend all these years locked up. But what harm is there to use polyjuice potion or transfiguration to change his appearance and go outside? Whats dangerous about that? Dumbledore can be....unreasonable sometimes. Well, padfoot still my favorite, and first time i read the book as a kid and saw he died i was really upset. Didnt want to believe it.
      Love all the drama involving umbridge. She's the most loathsome character for me in hp franchise, much more than voldemort. Secret rebel group is exciting. And the pranks from the whole school amused me to no end.
      And dumbledore...dumbledore still wears bows on his beard, blue, pink, shiny robes with stars or any number of cute things. But with our old and more book accurate professor passed away, new professor is much less colorful. The tone for the entire character changed. It suits the darker tone for later movies...but well. If dumbledore was like the 3rd year one when i start as a 1st year, i probably wouldnt think him wise or genius, or as magical. His eyes dont twinkle anymore. Sigh. Wanted to see how people think of dumbledore when he continued to be like the first two films and thus like in the book. Mr. Harris played him to be so likable. Maybe there wouldnt be so many dumbledore dark manipulator fanfic then. Haha.

    I started liking ginny and Harry together in the books when Harry asked, "Fancy trying to find a compartment?" This was when they were on the train going back to Hogwarts at the beginning of the session. Ron and mione were off to their prefect duties. Ginny said that she had to meet Dean and left( her long red hair flowing behind her). That was just so so strong that it gave me goosebumps. Also, the time when Harry smelled Ginny's smell during their potions class when amortentia was shown to them. These little hints made readers interested and also added on so much to their relationship.

      Sorry, I'm a big fan of romance and I say that with no shame! JKR is horrible at writing romance. One of the worst. While there were a few hints, it's true, we the readers saw virtually no interaction. So the romance and attraction came suddenly and with no real explanation. We see a real relationship between Harry and Hermione and even with Harry and Luna, but we're simply told that there's interaction between Harry and Ginny. Their scenes together are flat and dull. Harry/Hermione, and Harry/Luna have some really deep and moving scenes. So the whole Ginny/Harry thing is just boring and not particularly believable. I think JKR just wanted a way to make Harry a part of the Weasley family and Ginny was a convenient ploy to do so.

    • @ankitapathak2205
      @ankitapathak2205 4 года назад +13

      @@cocokai9661 Well, that is the thing. She isn't a romantic writer. She doesn't write such stories. But it's a completely different world she had created. So, she defo had to put romance into it. Not everyone can write what she wrote. So, it's not a bad thing. And if you don't like it, then it doesn't necessarily mean that noone else does. Hermione and Harry have an amazing chemistry but many people like their friendship better. It just shows how a male and a female can be so close and yet be just friends and that's just great on jk's behalf. I absolutely love that concept. You can like them all you want. It's your opinion. I just put mine. I absolutely love Harry and ginny together. I kinda knew from the first movie that they were gonna be together. Dk, just had that intuition.

      Season 1 should be both the philosopher's stone and the chamber of secrets though. Both books are quite short and it could take a couple years between each season so it would ensure that the actors don't get tired of their roles and want to quit. 8/9 1 hour episodes each season for 6 seasons would be a good length.

    I realized one thing that's very disappointing in the later movies is they're not wearing Wizarding robes. Unless they need to be in Muggle clothes for the plot, they should be in robes. It would add a lot to the movies if they were wearing robes when they were supposed to, like while they're inside Hogwarts. The movies don't feel as magical anymore because they abandoned the robes.

      That, and the lack of color in the spell casting (and complete lack of creativity). The first three (and even #4) had bright colors in the magic, even when the scenes were tonally dark. Everything is so grey in the later movies. Even the candles in the Great Hall don't look like candles because they're so muted. In the last movie, there's a triumphant moment where McGonigal fights Snape and lights the candles back up. But it's so underwhelming because the room only lights up maybe 5%. The clothes, the magic... it's all lifeless.

      I guess. But dark color can be used smartly. Coming from the point of view of an artist, if you want the light to be noticed, best bet is to start off with a black or grey and then add in your highlights. So the movies could’ve been a darker color but then have moments when it’s a bit lightened to bring focus to this happiness inside the dark.

Harry potter lost that "magical" quality once david yates took over, he tried to make everything seem more "realistic" but really he just made it more boring. I wish they got more directors like Cuaron to handle the HP movies. Yates in no way did a terrible job but his movies just ranged from good to ok.

    When I originally watched HP i had never read the books and wondered how and why hermione and ron became a couple instead of harry and hermione because daniel and emma's chemistry was so much better. When i asked my friend who he thought were the better couple between harry and ginny and harry and hermione, he said ginny and harry 100% and i'd wondered why until i read the books. Then I finally understood, cause in the movies ginny is so underused and just not shown to be a good character cause she was just shown to be a bland, awkward character to fill space. Then when they did get together in the movie at the end it felt so off since harry and hermione had much better chemistry the entire series (especially adding the dancing scene in deathly hallow pt 1).

    Another thing you didn’t mention that personally ruined it for me was the color tone. Ik that this was based on one of the darkest books in the series but I seriously think that the color tone was way to dark. It made it look unnatural during every scene that took place in lighter places like the great hall or outside several times. And in the scenes where it was dark like the cave it was simply impossible to see what’s going on. I do believe this movie should’ve had a darker color tone but I don’t think it should’ve been quite as dark and so unnatural.

      In the books, the Ron and Lavender story is important because it makes Ron and Hermione realize they want to be together. And it makes Ron relatable because we've all made awkward attempts at relationships as teenagers...
      Also, the unsuccessful romances were shown IMO to point out that war influences even young people with their usual teenage problems and the fact that they all come together in the end and fight in the Battle of Hogwarts, because fighting Evil is more important than past romances and relationship problems. "So young... to be fighting so many."

    I do remember a friend told me that Ginny in the book turned into a beautiful girl that literally everyone in hogwarts was slobbering over and that she was this cool and confident girl which only make her more desiderable, essentially she became one if not the most attractive and sought after girl in the franchise after the half blood prince, but in movies that's really hard to do when you're competing with Emma Watson, another reason at least to me that if JK really reboots the film franchise, she should do it in animation.

      @omarreyes7626 Год назад +12

      @@MaiNguyen-rn7zxthat is something that cannot be answered because in real life beauty is a very subjective thing, and Emma shot to fame over her constant screen time, for example, me personally never understood the public fascination with Emma Watson, she was attractive sure but not the bombshell a lot of my friends said it was at the time, to begin with, Hermione in the books was never considered attractive, that's why nobody ever simp for her the way Ginny was in the books, that's why everyone was impressed with her appearance in the goblet of fire's book version of the yule ball, and that's why it took to long for Ron to realize his feelings for her, she was essentially the ugly duckling of HP, this all boils down to the fact that this is one of the disadvantages of live-action, you can only go so far trying to cast the perfect fit for a fictional character, animation doesn't have that problem you can follow the character design to the letter by the book description, hence why I think that if they ever reboot the films, animation would be a better choice.

      Harry and Cho felt very natural in the movies and the actors had some great chemistry together, you could feel some romantic tension and the relationship was pretty believable and it's not like they had more scenes together than Dan and Bonnie

Not to mention their scenes were cringy in the film and lacked development. The reason Ron and Hermione works is we see their relationship develop over 7 books and 8 films. It really annoyed me that they left out all the Voldemort memories and ESPECIALLY how they treated the half blood princes book! Harry literally admired that book, even after performing sectumsempta on Malfoy, in the movie, they made it seem like it was something dangerous to be hidden away to stop Harry going down a dark path, but Harry justified the prince in the novel, not the spell, but he was showing signs of being a huge fan of the half blood prince, they really missed the mark of how much Harry and Ron too admired the half-blood prince, unbeknownst to them both it would end up being the person they hated most. Plus, to cut out the funniest part of the whole series even when trying to make it a comedy, AND would have incorporated Harry’s love for the half-blood prince’s book (and the real reason why he hid it in the room of requirement) is a full on crime. ROONIL WAZLIB was a lost opportunity. The relationship stuff was awful, especially Harry and Ginny lacking that chemistry as much as they did, and Yates butchering ginny’s confident character. The astronomy tower battle, and as I mentioned earlier, Voldemort’s memories which made half-blood prince my favourite book of the series. So much detail given to us of Voldemort’s past. Snape was my favourite character, didn’t have enough of him in this movie when it was all about him showing his “true” side. Also neglecting to mention how it was Snape who told Voldemort about the prophecy, to say nothing of how little they talked about the horcruxes, as dumbledore already guessed what a lot of them were but maybe the ignorance of the objects made it better for deathly hallows part 1.

He’s the one who made the series dark and gave it the vibe we all know and love. Changing directors in GoF was a huge mistake imo, the vibe completely changes. One of my biggest issue In this film is they never really explain why Dumbledore showed Harry the 2 memories either. They never say he’s doing lessons with Dumbledore or anything it’s just like oh here look at these two random memories and get me this one and let Slughorn collect you. Almost everything I hated about this movie can be described by the Sectumsempra scene. (I also hated Harry flirting with the Muggle and a few other things.)
    I absolutely hate when the screen is dark all the time. I literally can't even see the movie. It's unbearable to watch. A few scenes can be dark (the tower scene/Dumbledore dying and the Unbreakable Vow at Spinner's End were fine), but the entire movie was dark and it was just horrible. Why is the Hogwarts bathroom so dark? I know they're trying to make it dark for the evil/dark vibe, but it's just bad. Why is Hogwarts dark? Fred and George's shop? The Burrow? The Quidditch pitch? Even in dark scenes can they at least illuminate it so we can see? It would be way MORE effective at showing the evilness/darkness vibe if the bathroom was lit normally, and the scary Sectumsempra scene happened in full light. Malfoy's bright red blood would be way more "dark" than looking like it was filmed in a basement.
    THERE WAS NO EMOTION! The only emotional acting in the whole movie was Malfoy pointing his wand at Dumbledore. All the rest of the emotion in the movie was either really bad/awkward or nonexistent. Why is Harry just standing there after he curses Malfoy? Can't he rush forward, drop to his knees, say in a panicked voice, "No... no..." Why does Harry just stand there, blank? The Snape comes in and they just look at each other and Harry leaves? I really wish they had the scene with Snape asking for Harry's potions book. The movie mostly left out the Prince's book. And that leads me to the next point...
    The movie isn't telling the story. It feels like a bunch of scenes just put together. The Sorcerer's Stone movie told the story. It was an actual movie. The Half-Blood Prince felt like a ton of clips. I didn't feel a story coming out of the movie. And they'll say oh but you'd know the story if you read the books. It's not about that. Even if you know the books perfectly, a movie is less enjoyable to watch if it's just a bunch of scenes. We need the story.

    One thing I’ll add is that I actually really disliked the orphanage scene, because they left out Tom yelling “TELL THE TRUTH” at dumbledore. Kid Tom in the movie was soulless, but kid Tom in the book was animated, greedy, cunning, passionate, and angry. One of the most disconcerting things in the book scene was how easily Tom reigned in his emotions after Dumbledore told him off for speaking impolitely to a professor. No blame to the kid who played Tom, but he was so boring and lacked any energy or emotion. Terrible directing choices in that scene.

      @nesirosern8596 Год назад +6

      That's literally what happened with me
      I watched the films before I read the books and so the films were my introduction to the story
      And when I watched this movie, when this part came up and Snape said: "I'm the half-blood prince", I was extremely confused
      First of all, the movie never build the suspense or the mystery surrounding the identity of the half-blood prince and so I didn't really care who he was and when Snape revealed it was him, I was like "So what?"
      Secondly, I was extremely confused and was wondering what exactly is a half-blood prince and I thought that Snape is actual royalty
      In the movies it is never explained that Prince is the surname of Snape's mother and so it was very confusing and I thought that Snape was an actual prince or something
      I also wondered about the "half-blood" part
      Generally, I'd say the movie does not do a good job with that particular storyline - I mean if you haven't read the book you even wonder why the Prince's book is so important and what relevance does it have to the overall plot
      Harry and Ginny's relationship is also very badly done in the movie; it comes out of nowhere and it is never explored like what do they have in common, why do they make a good couple, what do they see in one another; in the movies it's just so random and Dan and Bonnie have zero chemistry
      This movie could've been done better; it felt too random, too much like a romcom and just not exciting enough and with a lot of crucial information left out
      Also the scene where the death eaters burnt down the Weasleys' house was terrible and created a major plot hole within the movies
      The book is great though

  • @thesoftersideofsears
    @thesoftersideofsears 10 месяцев назад +3

    Two MAJOR things they also missed/messed up:
    1. Trelawney telling Harry right before he and Voldemort go to the cave about Snape being the one who overhead the prophecy and telling Voldemort, leading to his parents' death and almost his own. It causes Harry to not only hate Snape so much more, but also causes him to doubt Dumbledore, making the events in the earlier parts Deathly Hallows so much more confusing for him.
    2. Dumbledore using pretrificus totallus on Harry and keeping him under the invisibility cloak before Draco disarmed him. Harry would never have just stood there and watched all that shit happen, Harry is a man of action. Instead Snape just goes "shhhh (don't worry i'll kill him, you just sit back and chill )"

      THANK YOU! That scene was such a big plotwist that came out of nowhere! and then is immediatly followed by the hunt of the Horcruxes and then Dumbledore's dies by SNAPE. And then Snape is the half blood Prince? My jaw was dropping at every line.
      Best sequence ever! The slow burning, the sequence that unveils the truth little by little. It starts so simple with a drunk Trelawney whining about Firenze and then BOOM, the truth hits Harry like a bomb.
      All those years of rivalry with Snape comes to this moment. He wants revenge, he wants to fight, but then there is a horcrux!
      And then Snape again, killing Harry's paternal figure hours after he discovered he is responsible for the murder of his parents. He chases Snape and again the terrifying true, he is the half blood Prince, It is Snape his silent ally. That was the theme of this book all along, which was unclear until that very moment. The mystery of the Prince. The mystery of Snape. Snape! Harry's enemy, Harry's ally. A man full of love and hatred.
      Genius! This was JK top writing for me

    I watched the movies before reading the books and instantly fell in love with it. Then I read the books.
    For this movie, I was so upset how they cut the Battle of the Astronomy Tower and the grown up relationships-absolutely love Fleur in this book, especially when she called out Molly for believing that she would leave Bill(and how offended she was when she originally thought that Molly implied Bill would leave her because he was bitten).

      @@Huening_Kai_is_Life i honestly disagree
      Totally disagree i find movie and book both them equally good
      Besides the first 2 movies was much alike with books and bright and colorful(actually better than books)
      And after thinking about more of half blood prince
      Its not bad cz it has lot of good moments which books never had(like wands up during the death of albus, bellatrix's craziness,draco etc) the movies hit differently and emotionally
      No matter how many times u read books
      And if u. Say movies are awful then check out percy jackson 😂😂😂😂
      The harry potter movies are way better than it
      Also it was nominated almost 10 times for oscar
      And i dont have favs saying this one is superior than that
      All i say is both of them are epic

    Thanks, this is so perfectly summed up! I'm a proofreader and used to work as a researcher in mythology and literature, so I'm extremely critical of all essays, but this one is good! It's thorough and your reasoning is solid. And it was interesting to learn about the cinematic aspects. Btw I agree with you 100% :-)

    In addition to the points made about the subtle hints in the book about Harry’s attraction to Ginny - in the first potions class, Harry smells a flowery scent from the burrow emitting from the Amortentia potion - already most attracted to Ginny, he just hasn’t realized yet!

    Me and my parents watched the films together while i knew the books and they didn't. When we watched it all they asked me for my favourite character i said Ginny and their reply based on the films was literally "Ginny? How come, she has no character in the series." and mine was "Sorry i have to go and vomit." Easily shows how poorly Yates understood Ginny's character...

    I really don't think it's a bad film. It has a lot of funny moments, some cool cinematography, and some great dramatic moments too. Some things I definitely don't like. Awkward Ginny scenes, the dumb battle at the Weasley's in the middle, and the cringey Voldemort flashbacks. But there is a lot of good in the movie too.

    While I mostly agree to all the points made in this video, I really like Slughorn's story about the goldfish and Lily. It was such a sweet moment that always makes me cry and I love whenever Harry gets to hear about his parents. That was one of the made up scenes that fitted well in my opinion.
