It really sucks about the code included. Im getting it for switch. But sonic mania plus had everything on the cart/disc. They could have again it with this as well. But im still happy and excited about the physical copy. Now i want sonic superstars.
Wish the physical copy said "Sonic Origins" on it instead of "Sonic Origins Plus" since what's on the physical copy itself is base Origins, then it would be really cool instead of a gross lie.
The reversible cover is probably the best part.
From experience, codes expiration varies by platform and publisher.
Xbox codes do not expire. To this date you can still get codes included in really old games and they'll work/redeem just fine. Even the ones with expiration dates such the one from South Park: The Fractured Butt Whole (it had a code The Stick of Truth) and even with the expiration date present. Those codes still worked fine.
PlayStation codes do expire, however it is on a case by case basis. For example AC/DC Rock Band Track Pack came out in 2008 on PlayStation 3. To this date those codes STILL work here in the US but not in the UK. Same goes for the Track Pack Vol. 2 (also from 2008). Newer track packs such as the country ones (released in 2011) no longer work on PlayStation despite the code showing up like it will redeem and after clicking confirm it tells you it has expired.
20 years is a long time, but even then. Those Xbox codes will probably still work.
What’s the point of getting it physical if everything is not on the disk? RE8 Gold did the same thing. Pathetic.
They’re trying to kill off the value and ownership of our games. They desperately want and all digital future for gaming!
The point would be to have a physical copy of base Origins in the reduced-bug state that should have been the bare minimum for releasing it in in the first place, too bad they lied and printed "Plus" on the physical copy turning an awesome collector's item into an ugly faker.

It's disgusting and insulting, if they had the balls to print "Sonic Origins" on it without the Plus to show it's base Origins then I would have respected it and probably even gone out to give them my money for base Sonic Origins in the reduced-bug state that it should've been released in in the first place.

I'm glad the Xbox Series X/Xbox One copy does have the Genesis cover art. Because Sonic Mania Plus on Xbox One didn't have it.😊

So sonic mega collection from ps2 has all the genesis and game gear sonic games all on disc. Near 20+ years later, they can’t put the game gear games on a ps5 disc. Pathetic on Sega’s end

Thanks for unboxing these. Confirmation of the download code means I won’t be getting this collection. Maybe Sega will fix this mistake one day with a reissue.

It's a physical of base Origins, what makes it an ugly faker instead of an awesome collector's item is that they felt the need to lie and print "Plus" on the physical copy as opposed to the physical copies of Mania and Mania Plus actually accurately representing the contents of the actual physical media like games are supposed to do.
I'm getting the Switch version today. I can't wait.

I bought PS5 digital. However a bit confusing to buy for that system as estore on console doesn’t list standalone game, but rather Origins from last year and a “Plus” $10 add-on. PlayStation site shows actual new full game for $39.99. Bought from there, though guess is all the same.

(2023) 😔 It is unfortunate that you got to have the code to download Amy and the 12 Game Gear titles. 😀 However, I am very great full that I get to play the Anniversary, Classic and Boss Rush modes with out wi-fi and downloading codes. (Plus spending the coins to unlock extra content in side the museum)

Thanks to this unboxing video I know to avoid buying this collection preowned because it is only four games on disc and twelve as a one time use download code.
Wait, wait, wait! Is this for real? Just four of the games are on disc!? The rest are redeem via the voucher code that the game comes with?
@@AlexYs03 That's certainly the way it seems from the video. Unfortunately there are other games like this like the Dead Island Collection, which only has the first game on the disc with the second one and a bonus retro style game on a voucher.
On the flip side there are also games that have had "DLC" locked on the disc from launch like Saint's Row 3 and Just Cause 3 where you could see the locations marked (dots floating in midair in Just Cause 3) or access the content by using certain methods (Saint's Row 3, you could teleport inside the Professor Genki's island building by choosing to warp to shore).
Unfortunately though it seems like it's a trend that will continue until consumers stop buying the products that do this.
Worst recent example of downloading content though has to be the latest Modern Warfare game (Modern Warfare II) where it's only a 700Mb license file on the disc version and you have to download the entire game, which can be over 100GB's. That wouldn't be nearly as much of an issue if internet providers hadn't instituted data caps where you must pay more if you go over a certain amount (1.2 TB a month for Comcast for example).

The Xbox Series X version is amazing, it's the best version of the game very beautiful.
Series X is The Hedgehog System, its power even unlocks better performance on old Sonic discs from previous Xbox systems that the Series X is backwards-compatible with such as Sonic Unleashed getting a 60 FPS 4K mode.
