Stone hatch is the most common hatch to ranch for meat. And reason why is, that you can feed it igneous rock. Igneous rock is unlimited source, once you tame a volcano. Magma turns in igneous rock, when solidifies.
If you want to know how to get a morf egg, go to the tame critter. In your case tamed hatch. And in the status of hatch, you will see the chance of laying specific morf egg. You will also see that what food raise a chance for that morf.
Oh and don't give your hatches clay. Clay is used to make ceramic in the kiln. If you plan to play with volcanos and metal volcanos, you will need a lot of ceramic. And deodorizers make just small amount. It's better to save it for later. Egg shells can be crushed for lime. Which is key ingredient to make steel.
Filtration medium is sand or regolith. Regolith is found on the surface of the asteroid and it falls down as meteor showers.
58:57 Pokeshels can be tricky, they will hurt your dupe, if there is an egg in the room not just nearby, but in the room. But they are used to eat polluted dirt and rot piles of food and turn it into sand. If they are red-ish as the pokeshel in your case, they will attack. The status of the critter also says Protecting. That means they have an egg in the room and will attack.
How many sources of power do you have? That one hydrogen vent, two spoms and one natural gas generator? That is critically low amount. Put your power plants in a room and make it powerplant, so you can get engi's tune up for more power. And try to get more power sources. Spom gives you just a tiny bit of an excess. You need something bigger.

      Stone Hatches it is!
I abandoned the Pokeshell idea. :D There's a lot of easy sand around to dig up and as you pointed out, tons of regolith.
I really should use some coal generators. I've been hesitant of the clean up efforts.
Thanks for the continued tips! I really appreciate it!
