I live in Indiana. And my home lakes are loaded with bluegill. I have found using an Okeechobee, blue craw, or magic crawl color with a similar colored trailer seems to work the best until fall. The D-Bomb is da bomb as a flip/pitch and trailer.
Hey Mr. John, Would you do a video on Swim Jig colors and trailers and colors please! Thanks! Met you at the East TN Fishing Expo earlier this year and we talked a good while. Also at the Classic this year also. It was a pleasure talking with you both times! We were talking Smallmouth at both. I live in Nashville, TN. Thanks again Sir!
I, of course, can't speak for him, but from my experience there are 3-4 colors that you need (the 4th depending on if you have Shad or Bluegill where you fish). 1. Black & Blue (obviously) 2. Bluegill color (depending on forage). You can also sub in GP here as well. I like to dip the trailer tail in Chartreuse for added visibility in stained/muddy water. 3. Solid white/white black stripes on skirt (depending on forage) 4. White & Chartreuse. Those four colors will cover just about every scenario you encounter across the country.
Love tha mini flip in bama craw with a green pumpkin baby D bomb it crushes em here in Louisiana especially when the bite is kind of tough I call it my secret weapon!
That's what I like about the GP3 color in the D-Bomb. Green Pumpkin on one side and Black/Blue on the other; covers all water clarity. I carry 2 jig colors, Black & Blue and variation of GP (either bluegill or GP-yellow/purple/blue) since the main forage are Gills. Sometimes I'll dip the tail in yellow or orange for extra enticement. I don't have room for 20 different colors of jigs/trailers so I've gotta go "all purpose". Nice vid bud! 👊 Now let's talk rod/reel/line/knot setup for jigs, please.
Great video it’s the best when you do something and somebody who knows more than you does the same thing. It seems like you’re filming in less than 24 FPS?
I would love to work with you on some color schemes. I love missle baits and I've caught more big fish on your baits than any other brand of baits. My favorites are the D-Bomb, Quiver, and Spunk Shad. The super bug color is phenomenal in Central Louisiana where I live but I'd really like to make a couple of changes to it to really make it pop and match the hatch. I don't need to get paid or sponsored, I'd just like to help with some new colors and share my input on them. I work with a local guy that pours his own baits and I've come up with some great colors but let's just say they don't work like my Missle baits do as far as the action goes.
Great question! It may be as simple as size of the average fish in your body of water to the main forage the bass are feeding on. For us here in the Southern States, vegetation plays a key role too so bottom structure has an important impact on decision as well (i.e., muddy, grassy, rocky, wood, etc.). I love a T-rig but sometimes a jig gets the better bite.
I fish two colors only- black and blue, brown and purple- anything else I want to add I do so with my trailer. It makes it so much simpler when buying jigs to, I know what color I want before I even look- and some companies have so many I could look for days so, that's a good thing. The only problem I have is that a lot of companies don't make brown jigs- it's not a popular color for some reason. Which is fine with me- but I hate that it's not more available. Especially brown and purple- that combo specifically is where my confidence is- and it's not easy to find. Bass Patrol has it, Keitech, and I'm sure a few more I haven't found or can't remember- Jewel has it, I think.
Super Bug and California Love. If I cant catch them on one of those I just cant catch them. LOL Brewgill is my number #1 swimjig and it isnt even close. I never use PB&J because here that is what everyone uses for everything so I always use something different. I mix and match the colors very rarely match jig and trailer colors.
California Craw color FTW
B&B with a green pumpkin or watermelon red is a great color combo I feel it's a great baseline and from there I can get more creative
PB&J is a good color on Lake Anna also! Great video!
Agreed
Pb&j with a Alabama craw baby paca craw trailer is the juice here in east TN in the summer. Great video
Nice. I'm in middle TN and often use PB&J with a "lovebug" D-Bomb trailer.
Ever try black and red?

Good video John. Good background with the blue tackle box you created the perfect black and blue studio!! I took the hook line and sinker!!
My highest confidence jig is the California Love. Just something about it where I live. Awesome video
Great video, very informative! Thanks for the info Mr. Crews, much appreciated
@John Crews, nice video and very informative. This info will be useful when I start doing Bass videos! Thanks!

As always another great video. Thanks.

Very well broken down and explained!

I caught a 18 pound bag this year on a jig with orange ascent in also caught my pb that day to 6.10
WOW
I run the copper chopper d bomb on bout every color of jig if not GP3 hard to beat. Also 3rd color pb&j is prolly my fav 👊🏻
🔥🔥
That purple passion is 🔥. When's the missle jig swim jig coming out?
Working on it
Can't freakin wait for it.
Hurry hurry... we need a swimjig made by Missle, it's my only jig company i use
Very informative
What about a Green Pumpkin Brown color? It seems to work good here locally so that may fall in to the "local" category you were talking about.
Just got my PB 10lb bass with that black & blue jig !!
Great video it’s the best when you do something and somebody who knows more than you does the same thing. It seems like you’re filming in less than 24 FPS?
My man, Myles filmed this one so I’m not sure his camera set up. Thanks

Hello John, what conditions would dictate to you between using a jig or going with a straight weighted D Bomb or other creature bait?
Great question! It may be as simple as size of the average fish in your body of water to the main forage the bass are feeding on. For us here in the Southern States, vegetation plays a key role too so bottom structure has an important impact on decision as well (i.e., muddy, grassy, rocky, wood, etc.). That's a great question I hope John swings by and answers that.

Do you feel the same when it comes to soft plastics about the colors as well?
The green pumpkin with orange works amazing in the fall up north here in Canada @puusa75
GP & orange will get you bit year-round here in the South too.
What colors do you use for swim jigs
You still got those no entry fee tourneys using only missle baits?
None planned this year.
@@JohnCrews dang!
I like a better trailer keeper but I haven't bought one in a while. The wire keepers are the deal.
What weight do you usually use for the jig? 1/2 oz or 3/4 oz
How long do you throw a color before switching to another color?
Underrated Color IMO : PB&J
I personally have caught more bass on a white jig with white trailer.
Spoiler Alert! Swim jig #1 color
OMG, it's giveaway time.
