That gave me a great idea my dog is the same color of a bone colored Super Spook Jr. so I took some of her hair from a haircut she got recently and used it to make the tail treble a dressed treble, It’s a perfect match!
In case you ever come to California, you’ll want to know that DFG stocks some lakes with fingerling trout. A review of skirt material history might be a fun future topic.
Another great thing if you’re going to make your own skirts is you can easily hand tie your jigs once you get the skirt on by tying a couple wraps and cutting the band off. If you do this you can add big streamer feathers to your skirts. I tie some feather underspin jigs like this. Like a buck tail jig but with white hackle instead of buck tail. It looks amazing in the water and catches fish really well. It’s also one of the coolest ways to run a bladed jig. Picasso makes a feathered version of the shock blade and you can tell the hackle does what chatterbait trailers try to do even better.
Really love to see the fly tying materials incorporated. I’ve been tying flash and tinsel into my jigs and spinnerbaits since I started fly fishing years about 8 years ago. Really love a bit of purple flash in my junebug jigs and 1-2 strands of red flash on each side for my white swim jigs.
Love this color combo. Siebert Outdoors makes a similar one called Alimony. I also throw a green pumpkin with 4 strands of a purple w/ purple or blue flake and 2 strands of chartreuse like this one. Two strands is much more noticeable than you’d think before you see it
You can make a tool out of a Bic ink pen and get a big paper clip, just leave the writing end on it but pull the ink tube out and throw it away, then get a piece of paper and run the ink out of the tip cut the pen cylinder down and bend the paper clip straight with a hook on the end! Save yourself some money
Thanks for showing how to do this! I've got all the stuff now to try all sorts of things, but these colors will be the first I make. Mimicking the forage seems to be the key.
Hello again Matt, Thanks for all your tricks of the trade. I am looking to put together the white swim jigs with chartruese and white skirt. The only gold tinsel I have is not a perfect gold color. Looks gold but has a a purple and red hue in it. Where could I get ahold of the gold tinsel you use. Is your gold tinsel straight gold color?
Well Matt, I enjoy your vids and they are very helpful. Thanks for the information. I have gone on the reel shot site on three occasions and everything I've looked for has been out of stock. I wanted to help support in some small way but nothing I wanted was available. I enjoy the videos and will keep watching. Thank you.
Dang. I know they have started to take a hit on inventory as well. Although they did get a bunch of Berkley soft plastics in. Thanks for trying to support my channel!
This Alabama shake technique has intriqued me. Sorry for all the questions. On your video you mentioned you do this with a blue gill colored swim jig also. The meaty chunk has only about 11 colors. Which color would you recommend for bluegill and the black and blue swim jig? Thanks again, I have told a couple friends of mine about your website. I believe they will be checking it out. You come across really good on camera with the way you explain stuff. I check out your web site just about everyday. I pretty much fish pool 9 on the Mississippi river at least once a week.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing! Id recommend the black with blue flake for the black/blue swimjig and the green pumpkin with the tips of the tail died in chartreuse for the bluegill swimjig. Good luck!
As one of the innovators of the Alabama shake, here's my take on your question. In winter, I like a green pumpkin Paca Slim on a black/blue swim jig. In the dirtier water of early spring, a blue bug Rage Craw, with it's more pronounced vibration, gets the nod. For summer and fall, I love a white swimming chunk or swamp frog as trailer, to better imitate the light colored belly of a frog. As for bluegill, I have my own Goldilocks jig that will blow your mind but, well, that'll remain a secret! 🤫

I run my tool through the other way does it matter. I have a little trouble using 3 or more layers of skirt. Should I turn it around and can u use some kind of lube in the tube?
i dont think it matters from what side you pull through the tube. If its supper tight and tough to pull through ill use a little smelly jelly or gulp spray to lubricate the tube
@@MattStefanFishing cool I fish as a co- angler and we fish Lanier 70 percent of the time and the upper end of Lanier in the spring has alot of flooded brush and laydowns , going to utilize the Swim jig more than the Spinnerbait , I have the Threadfin , Tactical Shad and Crappie ,Standard Dirty Jigs Swimjigs with River to Sea D walker which gives the Jig a great action without shaking the rod ,tip from Tactical Bassin ,also the Dill Gill color

Most fly tying shops will have a straight gold tinsel
You can also try hair tinsel that girls put in there hair, look on Amazon. Hope this helps
You're living the dream. I live in Chicago and plan to move to Northern Wisconsin. Where do you get these skirt colors from
Net raft, skirts plus, barlows
Matt, thanks for the info. I fish lots of tannic tidal rivers here in SC. I will give this a try this year.
Should be perfect!
Thx a bunch 👍

Great video, thank you very much
Thanks!
Pretty cool making your own skirts. I'd love to try this but how do you get a weed guard on?
they just pop in the whole
Love it! What trailers do you recommend for each color jig?
i either try to match the skirt or go completely opposite of the skirt
Matt, do you experiment with more bulk in tannic water and less material in clear water and does seasonal patterns come into play as well?

blended throughout
