I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for six MLF Championships and won roughly a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.
I got some of Strike King Hack Attack Heavy Cover Swim jigs
I've been fishing Brovarney Baits swim jigs for many years. Awesome baits!
Unfortunately, Dan recently retired.
thanks for recommending your old videos. just as good as your new ones bub.
Glad you like them!
many times when i am flipping bull rushes or anywhere really, if the jig isnt hit on the fall, i'll swim it out, like twitch crank twitch crank... and thats when the bass will hit it. its like 2 presentations in one. vertical in, horizontal out. i am real big on that dang "arckie" head.with a net bait or zoom chunk or the last 2 1/2 inches of a stick bait so it looks like a dragonfly. real versatile. and effective. as a sidenote... u may have already done this, but in the summer i take 3 junebug lucky strike curly tail worms and glue them together down to the egg sack so it looks like a 3 tailed worm. and then texas rig that and thats what i got my pb on. (u mentioned sharing techniques to try)
thanks for sharing all of that info!
Thanks Matt for building such a great video library and tips we can all learn from 👍🎣🔨🎣
You bet!
The Yamamoto Zako is super realistic for a baitfish profile. I do well in Jersey with them.
They work great!
Great information with rashional reasoning that makes sense
thanks!
Thanks, Matt, for the insight. This is one bait that I never throw. I will certainly be giving the swim jig sometime this season.
I use a Cutter Craw a lot from Bizz Bsits on the back of my Chatterbaits.
give it a try!
Don't know if you've ever tried the Keitech Model 3 swim jigs- they're really different, whole different design- I really like them. They're not great for splitting the grass and busting through it- but if you want a swim jig to ride up and over rocks, wood, etc.- you can't beat it imo. The head design is perfect for this task, makes the bait want to ride up and over anything it hits. It's totally snagless, the bait is Texas rigged basically- it's sorta like a cross between a swimbait hook with the screw keeper and a swim jig. I thought it was just another JDM gimmick- but I've changed my mind since fishing it.
Thanks! Ill check it out
Best fishing tips or info on RUclips thanks Matt
I appreciate that!
We appreciate these next level tips I just watched tannic water baits color the blade with a pink sharpie next level dude that’s a tip thanks dude I’ll be trying that today I live in PA right outside of Philadelphia
I just got back into bass fishing and wow, so many new baits and a lot of new tips. Thanks for taking time to help us out. It is greatly appreciated. I have not thrown a swim jig yet, but I have bought several different types and flavors. I am going to use your suggestions, thanks again!
I hope it helps! There’s so many baits to choose from it can be overwhelming.
Great swim bait video. Extremely informative....thank you for sharing the tips!! The Big Bite Baits swimon works well for me.
Thanks! I’ll hVe to give that one a try.
You look tired brother. Hope all is well, and thanks for all the great videos
All good

Awesome!
I've tried so many different swim jig trailers it's nuts- but I was headed in the wrong direction. I was looking for something bold with tons of action and roll to it- thinking that's what I needed but- it wasn't. The Deal by Berkley is very subtle and doesn't have any roll to it at all- and they love it- started using it after watching this video. I've had more success with it than any other trailer I've tried. The Menace Grub turned so the tail is vertical- then you tear off the bottom tail so it limps- only thing I've ever found that comes close to The Deal.
The only time I use a paddle tail now is when I'm stroking my jig- I think that's what it's called anyway. You pop it up off bottom fast and aggressively- then let it fall back and just repeat- don't let it sit on bottom but a second- if that. Really as soon as it touches bottom I pop it back up. Most days it doesn't work but- on the days it does you'll catch so many it's unreal. They hit it on the fall- they'll track it a little ways and then when you pop it up, they slide underneath it and just let it fall into their mouth- you just feel a little pop- that's their mouth closing on your line- set the hook hard.
Great info thanks for sharing!
I've found that a SK Menace is a great crawfish imitator.
It is a good one! Berkley just came out with a similar one called the boss grub wou will probably like as well. very similar to the menace
Great tipps try scrubs by kaln little eradicate they catch fish
Thanks for the tip!
I’ve never used it , so thanks
you bet!
Hello! Was recommended your channel by Randy. Great video! A swim jig is my favorite presentation. So versatile. I have spent quite a lot of time experimenting with different swim jigs and trailers. Brand/type of swim jig aside, the two best paddle-tail style trailers that I have found HANDS DOWN to give the jig itself awesome action are the river 2 sea d-walker for a larger profile, and the yum pulse for a smaller profile. Both have tons of body roll and really give your swim jig an action that causes the skirt to shimmy and flare. I hope I dont regret sharing this info haha.
Thanks Matt. Great vids
Glad you like them!
Awesome information!!
Glad it was helpful!
Must have been doing something right on my lake if you did that good on Grand. If you meant here in Oklahoma. I am gonna spend the next couple days working on my swim jig confidence.
yep on grand in OK
Definitely try the grub
That’s what I begin throwing swim jigs with and caught a ton of fish with!
Can't find the deal around VA so I'll need to look into on TW. I use a Zoom Z Craw Jr when imitating blue gill or craws and a Keitech fat swing impact 3.8 swimbait when imitating shad. Have also used EZ gambler swimbaits.
The Deal is sold out on TW. But The Reel Shot just got some in. Here's the link and use STEFAN10 at checkout to get 10% off. bit.ly/2Pv6BGr
Try a Zoom Ultra Vibe Speed Craw and see what you think. It has killer action.
Will do!
Great video
Thanks!
Great information as always! I like a grass pig as a trailer, a lot less kick then other swim bait boot tails, Since you're a buy local kind of guy, check out the outkast pro swim jigs (website has closeouts for 1.99 each all the time), love them on the Mighty miss. What's you go to MHX rod for a 1/4 ounce (finesse smallmouth) rod and a 3/8 ounce (shallow water heavier cover largemouth) rod. My hook ratio has been poor as of late.
ill check them out
Matt what 3 color setups would you suggest. If you had to pick 3 colors what would they be. I live in N GA. And fish clear lakes and lakes in a
Alabama. Thanks Brother.
a blackblue, green pumpkin, and chartreuse/white
Before I view this, the Keitech Swing Fat Impact better be on this list!
Edit Post View - I guess imitation is the best form of flattery. I'll take the Berkeley knockoff for the win. LOL
haha!
Have you tried the new Berkley Grub Boss? I just got my hands a a few colors....
Yep and I love them! I think they will be the top bait in 2022
What type line are y’all using with a swim jig?
What size of The Deal are you mostly using? (Off the wall, but I’ve had a LOT of success with a cut down Yum Money Craw as a swim jig trailer. Unique action (not same old flappers) and versatile if you need to pitch into cover along the way.
i use both the 3.5 and 4.5 The Deal
I fish a swim jig all year round. They catch fish anywhere in any kind of water.
agreed!
Are you rigging the tails vertical or horizontal I couldn’t tell in the video?
I rig the tails horizontal to the hook shank so the legs are up and down
Love channel where can i get a abu hoodie like u were wearing awesome
sorry they dont sell them
Good stuff bro! What weight jig do u use?
I change it up but 3/8 is my go to
Zman goat
Haven’t tried it yet
