My confidence bait, I caught my pb large mouth at four years old on one, will never forget it. It was on a 7 foot 8 spinning rod, in a river, I did everything except take it off the hook once on dock. I was using a shad color swim jig, with a small whit grub paddle tail, as my trailer. Never fished a kids rod a day in my life personally. Always used adult rods.

Your accuracy and efficiency while working cover is amazing- you never miss a beat. I fish a swim jig quiet often myself but I'm no where near as good with it as you are- of course. When I first started fishing them for some reason my instinct was to just lean into them when they hit it instead of really hitting them- why I don't know but it felt right, it wasn't. Once I finally seemed to get over that tendency then I got where I would second guess myself mid swing and hesitate- no good. I think I was scared I was going to pull it away form them or something. Anyway I've gotten where I know now to set it fully and deliberately like I'm fishing any jig but- it took some time for some reason. Seems like such a silly thing to have an issue with now.

99% of my fishing is also on a River in Canada. The Ottawa River. Great smallmouth and largemouth. Been throwing spinnerbaits for years as a search bait and have never used a swim jig before.
After watching this video I’ll be picking some up. It’s basically a spinnerbait without the blades and much more versatile! The blades on a spinnerbait can cause it to be physically taxing when covering water fast. The swim jig will be a refreshing change!

I carry on the deck of my boat some small ornamental landscape hand shears. If i get hung up in a branch and I can’t “ pop” it off, instead of untangling the bait, i just cut the branch and drift off. Saves the trolling motor prop and spooks less fish.

Love these on the water videos, & swim jigs is also a great bait that I don't use much I have caught some biggies on it, I favor the Ned rig more than any bait that's out there cause it seems that's the only way I can get a bite I mainly fish the TN River where's there's currentl most of the time, that River you on looked juicy. No amount of money can buy the knowledge you have acquired from fishing, but thank you for sharing some of it with the world. One note on the video about which bass tournament to fish with BPT also takes care of their anglers by weather such as fog delays & storms I think that's very important just wanted to give you a little more to think about👍

Thanks, Matt. Working on my swim jig game. Only other bait I could suggest has the same versatility, especially in and around that hind of cover is a Texas rigged worm. I have been wrecking them everywhere on that Berkley Maxscent Kingtail. Only problem is they don't last long as a jig, usually one or two fish, and they're on the expensive side. Have you tried them?

  • @WesleyKennedy

I've been using a 7'5" MH-XF for my swim jigs lately. Seems that the extra length makes the tip a bit softer while having the sensitivity of the XF action. Not sure if it's my favorite yet but that's what I end up trying it on consistently. Also, have you tried a River2Sea D Walker 120mm on the back? The action is fantastic and gives you a completely new look.

Only time we get lots of toothies is in the fall when they ones we have seem to pull out towards the current more for some reason. We really dont have that many of them up here compared some other places.

Matt, I do the same but with a chatterbait, both has same profile but I have the feeling that the vibration calls more fish, One question and hope is not a stupid one, when you decide to throw a swim jig versus a bladed jig ( chatter bait ). Thanks for the video, was a good one.

i dont like throwing a chatterbait into the logjams i do the swim jig. i also prefer the swim jig in clearer water.

Very informative video today. I usually grab a spinnerbait without thinking of the swim jig. What would be the difference in where you’d use a swim jig over a spinnerbait over a chatterbait?
Have you considered starting a Pike fishing channel? 😉😁

ill go spinnerbait or chatterbait in very dirty water or depending if there is more or less grass. SPinnerbait if theres lots of shad.

I've got to try the swim jig. Once this spinnerbait bite lightens up I'll tie one on. Looks like the trailer is pretty important
