Caught my first two Swim Jig fish: Benefits: 1. Far more weedless than Crank baits when fishing around grass 2. Solid hook up with that big single hook 3. Fish don't throw them when they jump 4. Casts well; more aerodynamic than a crank bait.
Matt I agree with 100% of what you said. Everything make prefect sense with the reasoning on what you do to thin the weed guard. Thank you for always sharing your great tips with us.
great tip! I love a swim jig, I usually put a screw lock with a small willow spinner in the bottom of my trailer to give it a little flash, I seem to get a few more fish doing this maybe it's because the fish don't see a swim jig like that as much.
Hey Matt! Appreciate you sharing your knowledge and providing such great content. I’m sure you are busy and get a lot of requests but I was wondering if you could do a video on tying your own jig skirts. Thanks
Swim jigs or a spinner baits are always tied on for me. I'm not a big chatterbait guy as a bank angler. Got tired or losing them and paying so much for them. Great tips Matt.
This channel is so underrated! Just started watching you about a month ago an can’t believe your at 3k followers. I always get a nice juicy tip from ya, and for that my friend I want to thank you! Keep up the great content! 💪🏽🤙🏽🔥
Sorry man I haven't been watching a couple days just caught up with videos down in Florence Alabama watching the Elite series on Pickwick lake this week Great tips
Thanks for the tips. I have a large surplus of 3/8 oz slither rigs or “punch skirt rigs”, I was planing on using them as jigs and swim jigs with an EWG hook and a suitable Texas rigged plastic trailer. Do you think this is a reasonable way to use these “skirted bullet heads”? Thanks for the feedback.
What's your go to line type and test for swimjigs in timber and possible double digits with 7s and 8s pretty common? Texas🤠. I use 20 P-Line CXX in timber and 50 lb Maxcuatro in grass.
Great tips Matt!! I predict your channel is going to do very well - you give detailed "how-to" info. Hey Matt, a lot of guys fish what they call a Damiki Rig in cold water here on Chick. I'd love to see a vid on that. Also, maybe do a rod build on one of your favorite MHX blanks! Thanks Matt, love the channel!
Hey Matt. Have you angle cut the top of the weed guard? That’s one of my mods that I do in light cover. Like you have mentioned about a fish coming up and the weed guard hitting the fishes mouth. I normally don’t start out like that big of I’m losing trailers (craws flappers) I’ll angle trim my weed guard and that seems to help me. Thanks Matt
What's the difference between the finesse jig to the regular jig if you cut off half of the inside skirt?? And what's your normal size to use?? Stay Safe & God Bless!!!
I know I'm literally a year late commenting on thus video. But I'm a swimjig freak as well and always have one tied on also. It's really underrated as a slow roll presentation in cold water and other situations. I also know you have the dirty jig situation going in, but Matt please try the nichols swimjig. I don't know what it is about that jig but it flat gets bit man. I sometimes use a now discontinued trailer that makes it even better for slow roll
Another great video! I got some 1/4 ounce finesse (spot killer) swim jigs in. Can I get away with a medium power spinning rod and would you suggest a fast or extra fast action?
Example I have a couple casting rods medium heavy from 7 to 7.2 in length , fast to extra fast , what technique would you apply for F or XF action ?As for now my main SwimJig rod is the 7.2fast action
I do not like xtra fast rods for anything really, but they dont work well with swim jigs. My go to swim jig rod is a 7'3" MH fast action MHX NMB873 blank.
@@MattStefanFishing yea I agree why do we have XF action unless it's heavy Flipping , Fast actions give you enough give so the hook does not boar a hole in the Basses mouth amoung of problems.
Matt, are there concrete factors that you consider when deciding whether to throw a swim jig, chatter bait, spinner bait or lipless crank? Or is it mainly personal preference?
ive definitly got specific things i look for to start with one of those baits, but if its not working Ill use the others. I have plans to do videos to detail why ill start with one over the other.
Hi Matt have you used X Zone swimbaits on your swim jigs let me now if you have l would like to know what you think about it. Thank you very much for your time 👍🏻

agreed! agreed! agreed and agreed!
Always great information !
Dirty jigs make great jigs. They are also my goto! Not only are they quality but I think they have some of the best colors!
Yeah so many great colors!
Always do the same modification with. Thank you

thanks for watching!
Thanks for the tips on the swim jigs. Very informative and I have to agree with your logic.
Thanks for watching!
Love this video. one trick i employ to thin any jig skirt is a pair of barber "thinning sheers" a quick way to trim some of the strands
Thanks for sharing!

good tip thanks for sharing!
It’s definitely an underrated bait. Once you develop confidence in it. It’s a great tool. Great mod tips
Great video! Couldn’t agree more about the swimjig alterations.
I use a tab and half on my skirt. If I want it high in the water I use a chigger craw if not a xoom creepy crawler. Great tips!
Thanks for sharing!
I have a heck of a hard time here in Georgia fishing lake Sinclair on a swim jig..so frustrating lol.. but I keep trying
Best of luck.
Semper Fi.
Thanks Matt, I struggle with swim jigs in our area, I need more seat time and confidence with them...
I have no doubt they will work in your area. They work everywhere.
Haha I’m over here modifying the jigs I have while your doing it. Basically like a tutorial
Awesome!
Great stuff as always Matt...love your sharing of tips!! So informative!! Thank you...
Great modification tip.

I did this one a long time ago ruclips.net/video/Mjw9En4xpdw/видео.html
Matt, Can you put some links in your description so we can find these lures? Thx & great videos.
Im New to a swimjig. I've not caught alot on them but I enjoy fishing them. Im def gonna put more airtime on them after seeing this video. Thanks.
Good luck!
An underrated bait for sure

Great tips Matt, thanks for the video
Loved what you have done to that weed guard
thanks!
Thanks Matt for all your info I think you have the best utube fishing videos definitely my favorite channel
Thanks Matt
Yep!
Excellent. Thanks
Great info and exceptional logic to the mods imho (love the front back weed guard thoughts). Thanks for sharing, Matt.
Anytime!

Good info and right to the point. I'll echo Martin's comment would like to hear your views on what makes a good rod. Thanks
Thanks!
Good info. Recent subscriber and I thank you for the help.

Good stuff Matt thank you from Ohio.
Matt, if possible please talk about how you fish a swimjig in deep water...
its on my list for videos to do!
Thanks for the tips. it can work!

15 lb Berkley 100% fluorocarbon is my go to but I’d bump up to 20lb in standing timber and giant bass
thank you sir
Any swim jig tips for stained to dirty water where primary forage is a very small shad?
Use a finesse swim jig with a really small boot tail swimbait as a trailer
Great tips Matt!! I predict your channel is going to do very well - you give detailed "how-to" info.

Both great ideas! I’ll put them on the list!

Good video. What is your favorite color swimjigs
im going to have to make that into a video

Great video

the hook length and hook strength are different as well. my go to is a 3/8 oz

The Nichols sabre swimjig has caught some fish for me
👍
👍👍👍

Medium spinning should be OK with the finesse swim jig. I highly recommend not going with the extra fast rod.
@@MattStefanFishing Thanks!
Is there a situation where you should not use a jig? my river for example its always murky and soft bottom.
You can definitely still use it in muddy water, but id start looking at a spinnerbait or chatterbait in real muddy water
Example I have a couple casting rods medium heavy from 7 to 7.2 in length , fast to extra fast , what technique would you apply for F or XF action ?As for now my main SwimJig rod is the 7.2fast action

Great, I’ll be looking for that video!
Skirt trimming...my new guilty pleasure, spend more time with new baits than my own hair!
haha
🎉
Thanks
Good tips. What size of The Deal do you use?
I use both the 3.5 and 4.5 sizes. Just depends on the conditions and what species I’m fishing for
Is there a time when you want a paddle tail over the Deal for thump?
I use a paddle tail all the time as well and prefer it when fishing through thick cover
Hi Matt have you used X Zone swimbaits on your swim jigs let me now if you have l would like to know what you think about it.
Thank you very much for your time 👍🏻
Yes I have. they work decent
@Matt Stefan Fishing OK thanks l will try the ones you are using 👌🏻
great video.. i always like to dab a dot of red polish under the head !
good tip!
Gotta ask the question. Do you consider a swim jig to be a jig?
absolutely
😂
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
