Now I know what to say when people as where the fish are. Well, they're always gonna be below your belt and if not you should grab a spear. haha. I'm a beginner fly caster and really appreciate your practical advice.
I started fly fishing over 20 years ago, and life got in the way, so I didn't do it for years. A couple years ago, I started doing it again, and if course I "mis-remembered" how to do it correctly. This series has been GREAT! I even shared thus with my nephew, who has gotten frustrated with fly casting.
Great stuff, thanks. Interesting how similar casting is to leaning the golf swing...both in some of the physics and biomechanics, and, in how poorly some instructors try to convey ideas. Some of which are just plain wrong. I think your analogs and explanations are spot on, and even though I've been casting for years, I find all kinds of gems and ways to improve. Thank you.
Loved the ending! Brians analogy to airplanes taking off and landing flight path...and then one comes to investigate,😂. I also learned obtuse can mean over 90 degrees and less than 180..not just ‘annoyingly insensitive, or slow to understand’. Thanks a million for the great instructions! Looking forward to more. 👍👍 🎣
Thanks for the great casting advice!! Please give us a video on ultra tight "pointed" loop fly casting!! That would be the best!! It's rarely covered! Thanks just jim
Brian I started fly fishing just days ago and then found your vids, Been binge watching ever since and of course I smashed the Subscribe key. Thank you so much Brian and Mad River!!!! Boy won't my fishing bud be surprised when he watches my fast evolving cast. Thank you again!
Thanks for watching. You’ll need to send Brian an email directly through the shop at admin@madriveroutfitters.com. He doesn’t monitor here but does at the shop.
I have 2 casts down fairly well but need more practice. The Overhead Cast and the Roll Cast. Don’t most of the casts require water to create negative energy to unfurl the fly line. I have practiced on grass and the Roll Cast is less than good. Up and Down cast works fine. I haven’t done other casts but they may be a flop too on grass??
You said the fish will always be below your belt, suppose you are fly fishing for "flying fish" they "could" be above your belt, no :) . Loving the casting series though seriously helpful.
maybe a dumb question but what should you attach when practicing your cast on grass? would a fly with the hook point clipped off or a piece of yarn be preferred?
Love the videos! They have really improved my game. But in all of the videos I've watched so far, you don't discuss what's going on with your left hand, "pumping" the line, so to speak. Did I miss that?
Gravity..... Hmmmmm.... what an unusual concept in theoretical physics. I wonder if Einstein was listening to Newton? Naaaaaah, he was out fly fishing that day 🤪
This week we're catching airplanes in the sky! 06:43 Thanks so much for watching friends, stay tuned lots more coming!
Does this technique work if you're in the water up to your waste ?
iulianburlacu Of course. Try to stay out of waste though.
Came for the fly fishing tips, stayed for the high quality content and Brian Flechsig's jokes.
Thanks for being here and please stay tuned.
".......fishing for parrots & monkeys." 🤣

Piece of yarn is fine.
What do you add to the end of your leader when you're practicing in your yard? How much weight?
Please send your questions directly to the shop via email or give them a call. They will be happy to help. Thanks.

What’s the intro song
Thanks for checking with us but just stock music. Can't use copywritten music in videos like this.
Gravity..... Hmmmmm.... what an unusual concept in theoretical physics. I wonder if Einstein was listening to Newton? Naaaaaah, he was out fly fishing that day 🤪
Probably so. Thanks for watching.
Fly as low as you can over people trying to film fly casting videos and you'll f**k up everything 🤣🤣🤣
They should check with us first....right?
