Brian... Props to Blane. Lots of great advice. My large flies are not his large size, but I know his tips will definitely help. And that straight line pull off is amazing. Never thought about it but I do that on my backhanded water load cast all the time which casts better than my front version more often than not. Great casting episodes... Finally subscribing now... thx. and thanks to Lefty too.
Brian this was absolutely terrific. Last summer I used several of Blane's game changers while fishing up in northern Wisconsin. And my arm got very very tired and sore. No more after this video. Many many thanks and now am off to practice.
Hello Kenji-san. I checked out your videos. Very interesting but unfortunately... Sansei desu... and I don't speak Nihongo. But some things are universally understood. So did you ever start spey casting in Japan?
thank you, i just recently startet flyfishing and i started heavy. maybe not the smartest idea, but we have a lot of northern pike here in germany. will try this out next time. there were a lot of helpful tips in this video 👍
Thanks for the video casting big flies is different pike, musky big largemouth it is a art in itself I have Two Sage pike & musky rods, one sage largemouth rod .
I'm self taught like Blaine, I had the advantage of having a librarian Mom that got me all the books I could hope for. I had the pleasure of meeting Blaine at one of Tony Friedrick's Lefty Kreh Tie Fests
Lefty was the man I took a casting clinic with him about 30 years ago and he was throwing a full line with half a 6wt into a 25 mph wind simply amazing
Thanks guys...great stuff. Kinda like working on my golf swing. Any thoughts on oversizing reels? I'm setting up a dedicated 7 weight streamer rod and thinking about using a 9. Thanks!
Great video love the info. Now taking into consideration the second most important aspect of the set up. What about the leader? Obviously using big flies and bigger rods for 9 inch flies what about the leader for 5 and 6 weight leaded streamers 3-6 inches in length. Is there a specific formula you have used?
Late to the comments. But this is gonna be very helpful for my casting. Also I’m Curious. For the 8 & 10 wt BC Big Fly Rods; is there a recommended fly size? ie 8 wt , 2-4” flies etc? Thanks again.
I love the technique but it's difficult to cast like this in a boat with three. One on the bow and one on the stern and a guide running the trolling motor. Think big fly in your ear.
Weight balance your real big flies and you'll cast then easier, with much less effort, and with MUCH more control as well. A lot of casting big flies is IN the fly itself.
What about wading river fishermen. We don’t always have 90 feet behind us. I’m wondering if this “on a plane” technique would work. I’m not questioning this technique at all obviously this man is a world class caster I’m just trying to apply it to my fishing conditions.
Finally, we got the casting tutorial for large flies. Waiting for years.
Thanks so much for watching.
You could have made one yourself....read a book, read some articles, talk to some experts, buy a camera, hire an editor, and BAM!...no more whining!
Wow, what a great video. Every one of Blane’s suggestions applies to any size fly - so helpful. Loved hearing Blane’s story during the FFI Expo.
Thanks for being here!!!
Lefty Kreh continues to contribute through the legacy of innovative ambassadors like Blane Choklett. Thank you, Blane, Brian and, of course, Lefty
Thanks for watching.

Great video on casting large flies. As a saltwater fly fisher, casting large, heavy flies have always been a problem. I'll be practicing this method.
Thanks for watching.

Lol you got Brian in full camo and Blane's wearing his hi-vis Alaskan crabber bibs
They kinda offset each other here?
Lefty was the man I took a casting clinic with him about 30 years ago and he was throwing a full line with half a 6wt into a 25 mph wind simply amazing
He was an amazing man. Thanks for watching.
Lefty was the undisputed master of the cast

I don't use flies that big but this is helpful in dialing in my side cast.
Thanks for watching.
Do you ever use short Skagit lines on these rods and do single handed spey casts?
Please contact the folks at the shop with your questions and they will be happy to help. You can e-mail them or give them a call. Thanks.

What flyline is Blane using? Im interested of trying out something else then Vision Flyfishing are making.
Thanks for watching. We don’t have that intel here but Brian might know. You can email him or give him a call at the shop.
Which fly line is Blaine using in this video?
Hybrid Game Changer is typically what he uses for Musky.
Thanks for this maybe I'll have less arm fatigue when I'm chuckin streamers
We hope so. Thanks for watching.
Where can I find the outfit Brian is rocking here. That man’s got drip
Simms CX Jacket and Bibs. He only shops at Mad River Outfitters.
patagonia billboard
Thanks for noticing. He does work for them…..that’s his job.
What weight line / rod is he casting here?
It’s surely a BC Big Fly Rod so 8,10 or 12 but not sure which. You could contact Brian at the shop and he may know for sure. Thanks for watching.
"Slack Kills" T-Shirt?
Stay tuned!
I love the technique but it's difficult to cast like this in a boat with three. One on the bow and one on the stern and a guide running the trolling motor. Think big fly in your ear.
All in the positioning of the boat. Pretty easy actually. Thanks for watching.

So called 'Opening wide, shooting tight'

Why does Blane look like he’s going to a Swedish disco party
Not sure but he did mention he was heading to Sweden right after this filming. Strange. Thanks for watching.
Do Americans have to wear hot orange fishing gear as well as hunting gear?
They don’t have to…….but some choose to! Thanks for watching.
Love it! Reminds you of the good ol' orange Grundéns bibs from Sweden. Bring back hot orange, I'd say!
Belay my last comment. Watched the video again (fourth time) and I see what is was doing wrong.
Thanks for watching and for the update! Feel free to call the shop if any further questions.
W.W.L.D.?
