Fun fact this is actually the first time Jim Carrey has ever done a third movie in a series. Not only did he come out of retirement to do sonic 3 but he even broke his one golden rule about never doing threequels

I am absolutely blown away how much they nailed shadow in this trailer. Everything down to his look, his powers, and even the way he moves makes him look very threatening. It’s like he’s a killing machine that doesn’t hold back
They even have him fighting the same exact way in the games 😭

Ever since the later 2010s to 2020s he’s stretched his work out to include movies, series, and con reviews
He’s actively taken away time he could use to go his original work to provide more varied content
HOWEVER seeing as I’ve watched Vtubers who have schedules and numerous streams keep up and recognize Maria right away shows he’s just seemingly bad at managing his time or lazy
Not helped that I’m fairly certain quite a few of them are much younger then Joe so they give the impression of actively going back to play OG stuff while he just never had or skips over for just the new shiny stuff
His playthrough of Last of Us 2 gave this impression actively having the others play Abby and talking over scenes or walking out of the room missing a bunch of stuff continually
This gives the impression he runs more on hype trains and chooses to react to stuff that’s got the most attention for easy views while doing basic work, if any, to seem informed
So apparently one of the biggest pieces of advice the VA for Shadow gave Keanu in an interview is: just be yourself and based on this trailer it seems to be working for him

Sonic Movies are what happens when you listen to and care about the fans and the source material.
I find the human-focused parts deeply uninteresting (if I ever rewatch the 2nd movie I'll skip the whole wedding thing), but yes, when the movies are ACTUALLY about Sonic, the fanservice is well executed.
@@Gonzora You have to have real actors for general audiences. It also helps establishes the world around Sonic like with G.U.N. Plus, Sonic fans know that most Sonic stories have human characters he is friends with. Tom (Donut Lord) is a million times better than Sonic’s friend Thorndyke for example.

Not having Maria in Shadow’s backstory is like not having Bruce Parents death and death of Uncle Ben for Spider Man’s motivation
It would be taking the substance out of his edgyness. At this point in his story, was pretty much (in his perspective as he was in cryogenic statis) yesterday that he was with Maria when it all went down and heard her final words. That wound is still fresh and all he sees is the ones responsible right in front of him.
So there's a really popular fan theory that a Wachowski (not Tom but maybe a father or grandfather) is responsible for Maria's death. This goes back to the first movie, when Maddie says that a Wachowski had been in Green Hill for 50 years. "Trust me, there will come a moment when your power will be needed, but you don't choose that moment." that Tom tells Sonic aka "The Wachowski family special" was passed down from one family member to another. It feels like a quote taken from a hard learned lesson.
Having Sonic's adoptive family be responsible for Shadow's pain and grief would be the perfect way for Tom and Maddie to still be relevant. It raises the personal stakes for Sonic. It challenges his worldview. It also neatly ties everything together to make sure the thematic writing of "how do you handle loss and grief" really nicely. There's also a shot in the trailer of Tom screaming for Sonic while Shadow is attacking; I have a feeling they might have Tom be collateral damage to Shadow's rampage. That way, he isn't _directly_ responsible, but would still put Sonic and Shadow at odds with each other. And force Sonic to come to terms with the type of raw pain Shadow is feeling. Remember, to Shadow, his loss isn't 50 years ago. It was a recurring nightmare while he was in stasis.
That Chekhov's gun needs to be fired in this movie, otherwise all that subtle build up is wasted.

Its really weird to say "i dont want any human plot" in a movie introducing Shadow. They show Maria in the trailer, like you dont think they will show THAT part? The reason Shadow is so dark and edgy and his hatred for humanity?
Tbf I think what they meant was any human side plots that don’t have much relevance to the main plot with Sonic and the others

I think my favorite version of this story has to be Sonic X.
"DON'T TALK TO ME ABOUT FAIR! NOT AFTER WHAT HAPPENED HERE!" The way Jason Griffith delivered that line is VISCERAL. Shadow's anger is still so raw and open...to him what happened to Maria isn't 50 years ago at all. That's what's so heartbreaking about it.
Fun fact: Keanu was so close selling his soul to Star Wars Acolyte until Paramount offer him the role as Shadow for Sonic 3. I’m so glad that Keanu choose red pill for Shadow to save his career over blue pill for Acolyte that the show was a delusional dream of nightmares.

The little girl (maria) who bonds with shadow gets killed and that's what makes shadow SHADOW
The whole no human plot feels so weird because shadow is probably the main sonic character that needs the human aspect to his story, as his relationship with Maria and everyone on the ark is the entire reason he is who he is. So not having some focus on him and Maria here would make his motivations feel much more shallow and nothing to stand on.

Joe.... If you guys don't want humans involved here.... I have bad news for ya. This Story is based on the Sonic Adventure 2 Story involving The little Girl Maria in a BIG WAY. She is related to Robotnik and connected to Shadow In a MAJOR WAY! The military should play a decent role in this too. Maria's Death is what makes Shadow the character he is! I think we will get Donut lord as a member of G.U.N and I'm sure it's connected to Maria but nothing's confirmed. My point here is.... This sets up to be a movie about Shadow and Team Sonic. However Human involvement is BIG with this story. Mostly the Robotniks and G.U.N but still. The humans will be in this no question.

Hey I kinda liked Wade. I'm a bit mixed on the show's later focus on bowling of all things but Wade himself was a lot of fun to me. I wouldn't mind a line or two from him. The low budget musical he was in was wonderfully bizarre as well as being a very interesting way to deliver lore of Knuckles backstory.
I guarantee you when they first started making the first movie the higher-ups were expecting something more like the Chipmunk movies or Smurfs or something but now we're at this point it's kind of like the Avengers, insane switch up
I wish they had done that with the first 2 movies, because maybe then I would have had more of an interest. The first two Sonic movies are way too family friendly for me with too much comedy.
I have been continually shocked at just how good the sonic movies have been. They have been so entertaining, I just hope they play escape from the city at some point.

It's crazy to think this is the result of a film company FINALLY listening to their audience. I remember when the first trailer dropped and it got shit on so hard that they delayed it to redesign sonic and the result is a BANGER trilogy. The 2nd movie was more on the weak side but still great and I'm hyped for this 3rd film.
