It's to prevent people from pumping and dumping. It makes sure that you can't earn money by not playing the game. If the fee was zero, people would just be buying cards and selling them for a few credits more instead of playing to get money.
Of course this also benefits EA, but regulating a stock market is absolutely necessary.
Oh, and if you're wondering. I have never been a real EA sports player. Because all the games are the exact same. I would honestly rather play fifa 08 than the new ones.

I stopped buying Madden like 10+ years ago. I just watch these reviews every year and save my money. I miss Madden, but I'm not going to pay $70 for a game that is worse than the one I bought in 2012.

Nah, not buying for any reason. Been playing the PS4 version of Madden 22 since it came out. I just download draft rosters that have the newer players in them. There's literally no reason why to buy the new ones anymore. Fuck EA and you shouldn't buy into their bullshit.

Different population plays Wukong vs. Madden. Madden is for madden competitive players, who might be a dwindling crowd but still spend hundreds if not thousands on the game. The fact they aren't making changes to the game tells me they are losing players and revenue but have calculated that the hardcore p2w guys are still very active.

The Frostbite engine is what's holding Madden and NCAA back. It's not meant for sports with real physics and tackling. Screw cheapskate EA!
yeah 100% right. The engine was not even made by EA. It was developed by original DICE's devs. They made Battlefield with it. Go look at Battlefield 1 and bf5. The engine is made for destruction physics, special effects, and immersive graphics. EA is just too cheap to create an actual functioning engine made specifically to create sport games.

Take me back to the days when we had competition across the board. NFL Gameday, NFL2K , NFL Blitz and even NFL Street. Back when these franchises existed nothing came close to Madden. You’re actually cooking. Madden is THE WORST THING to happen to video games. Madden Ultimate Team came out in 2011, now idk about you, but I don’t remember loot boxes in every shooter or digital packs in every sports game before that year. DLC used to be for the most part worth it, map packs and additional game modes or extended campaigns. You used to be able to unlock new cosmetics in games instead of having to buy it separately which made games more exciting and meaningful to play imo. Other companies saw EA raking in cash with their greed and jumped on board

I play NBA 2k24 and MLB the show 24 only offline and I binge play both for hours, in both franchises you literally have to scout, draft and pick the right staff to win it you'll lose players get worse and you end up losing Star players in free agency
It makes the games playable to the point I don't even get the newest editions or wait til each season is going to the post season
MLB the show's depth in scouting is the best in sports gaming
And in both they give you details like what player does well against right handed or left handed pitchers, how a player's skills change depending on home or away games, wind and weather
And the NBA 2k24 actually has pre game and post game interviews with actual coaches and players with Alie and David Aldridge doing the pre and post game shows even bringing up stats or how a player does in the fourth quarter or plays against zone or full court defense
And both games don't make anywhere near what Madden does yearly

The amount of corporate buzzword speak Alex crammed into that presentation is pretty impressive. It was so convincing, I'm going to buy the deluxe edition twice!

This Madden "intelligence" absolutely cheats. If you want to win, just use the AI "cheating" against itself. Pick a pass, and audible to run and vice versa. And the same thing on defense. Choose to defend against the run, then audible to defend the pass that the AI certainly chose because you selected to defend the run. The AI reads the plays that you choose and adjusts accordingly. For fairness, the AI needs to pick its plays and operate independently from what you decide to do as the player. Why has not one thing come out about EA and how they continue to do this?

EA always uses buzzwords to make minor adjustments brand new features. It will be something like “Adaptive catch tracking” and the change will just be a new animation
Don't forget the No huddle where both teams magically appear on the line of scrimmage. At least CFB 25 the players run to the line of scrimmage on a no huddle.
