    To me the Animist feels like the old Mystic Theurge prestige class; when you can combine 2 different caster classes insto 1 while progressing spellcasting of both path simultaneously. Back in the day I usually create Mystic Theurges as bosses for very hard enemy encounters, and the amount of spells they have is insane. The Animist evokes that I think.

    So the complaint with the Animist is based on the concept of the class itself. It has literally been made to touch on capabilities of other class archetypes with inefficiency. The main mechanical theme of this class is its versatility in its spirits. I would like to see many more spirits allowing for more ways to switch into new roles. Sage needs an upgrade, maybe the ability to sustain much easier to give it that feeling like it has a better connection to its primary spirit.

    Neither class is inquisitor. Boo on Paizo. Thank you for your insight.

    I think it is important to keep in mind that these classes were likely designed with some of the remaster changes that we don't know about yet. I wouldn't be surprised, for instance, if all repertoire casters spells auto-heightened in the same way. Wildshape druids might end up even better shapeshifters than the animist. It may be misleading to compare these playtest classes against the current published classes.

    Isnt mythic levels more like parallel leveling more than after 20?

      Mythic levels are post 20 levels which was a thing introduced in second edition. It's not the same as the system introduced in "Owlcats Wrath of the Righteous"

    I don't like the changes between playtest and release Kineticist, playtest felt like it had more interaction with archetypes, but I understand why they did it and I'm having a blast with the release kineticist.
    This playtest to me shows the direction they're taking with the new design and I love it. Animist Shapeshifter as a standout part of this playtest

    I keep seeing people say that the Animist would make a better Wildshaper than a Druid. I don't see it at all, I have no idea why people think that. The slight bonus to attack? It is kind of nice when you first get a form, but quickly falls to the wayside when a form becomes older. The Animist version doesn't scale as much as Wild Order can, and Wild Order has the benefit of using the Druid's attack with a bonus if it is better, such as with a lower level Wildshape spell. The Animist doesn't get as many forms, they don't last as long, they don't get any feats or features that would improve it, and the Animist version is Sustain which means they always have one less action than a Druid would while Wild Shaped. The only benefit is the slightly better attack when first acquiring a form, and the change form with the sustain, but the disadvantages overwhelm them.

      It is arguably better because for a druid to have the wild shape ability with all the benefits you mentioned, it will have to invest half of its class feats and focus on strength as the main attribute over wisdom. And even with all the investment, the attack progression of the wild shape will collapse at high levels compared to martials. For Animist it is just a free option that you can choose to take whenever appropriate. No investment needed, "0". For specific levels, your wild shape attack progression + the status bonus, will match the attack progression of most martials. When the wild shape option becomes obsolete, you can just discard it without losing anything really. Regarding the sustain part, sure you have 1 less action(which honestly could payed around) but you get the ability to change your form as part of the sustain action which means crazy flexibility in terms of movement types/resistances and other goodies AND I think that this will also replenish the temporary hit points of the wild shape (not 100% sure about that). So ya, for practical use it is probably better. Hopefully the remaster will address that.

    I normally don’t care about new classes, but Exemplar seems very interesting from a narrative point of view.
    That said, I think Exemplar should be an archetype, not a class.

      I can see animist working better as an archetype than exemplar. You could certainly make the argument that these could both be solid archetypes.

    • @oiman5733
      @oiman5733 9 месяцев назад

      Oh no they haven't given up on casters as far as I can tell because, in the remaster, all spellcasters are going to get a unified proficiency in spell attacks and DC's, as stated by Michael Sayre in a forum post. Your class will still determine the spellcasting attribute and tradition of spells accessed but now you can multiclass into other spellcasting classes without you having to navigate the complications of having two separate spellcasting proficiencies. Wizard multiclassing into cleric is now very much possible, and I bet someone's cleric of Nethys would love to multiclass into wizard.
