I see a niche use for Animal Strength combined with a Ranged weapon, such as a bow. It makes it easier to go for a switch hitter character, without having to get runes for both melee and ranged.

Threatening mimicry sounds amazing for that guardian class coming out forcing enemies to hit you while making their frighten unable to go down.

Imitate Fauna can be used to bring animal companion or familiars that would draw attention, into places where they'd be awkward.

Natural conduit can be used with warden spells, so multicasting is not required.

An awakened animal can be a target for spells that target animals if they want too. Through the awakened mind ancestry feature.

I think you're approaching imitate fauna from the perspective of using it on a PC as opposed to using it on an animal companion (that thing that rangers can get and are pretty good with). Imagine your animal companion is a tiger, and you're wanting information on an enemy territory, and they have horses in there. You can send in your "horse" to gather information for you.

It’s cool that they’re creating unarmed attack support but like, it requires so much support and feat investment to do stuff with a lot of it. Like, I can invest a few feats to be a as good as a sword, OR I can just have a cooler sword and invest in cool powers.
Kinda wish they packed more mechanical spice in those features. Hope animal barb gets some good meat right from the start!

Nice! been looking for some coverage on HotW Ranger options because I haven't gotten the book yet.
Gluttonous Growth is really interesting. It lets you Grab targeting Reflex, instead of Fortitude. That can be a big deal for certain targets. There's no size limit or bonuses/penalties from size. There probably should be some sort of Basic Save on the damage like how the Constrict creature ability works. It currently reads like a budget Swallow Whole with its grabbed condition and guaranteed no save damage, sans suffocation.
I dislike spells like Warning Stripes that rely on the vague 'touch' (there's a fire version of that spell somewhere, maybe its legacy now). "Any creature that touches you" is vague because its unclear how it affects characters dealing unarmed attacks or how/when damage occurs when you're in an active grapple with it active. There's no limit per round or per turn nor guidelines about these use cases.
I agree that spells and effect that make the players treat PCs as non-allies can be rough. I wouldn't do it often either, but one of my favourite RP moments mid fight was when the enemy got my PC and almost everyone else in the party, treating each other as non-allies due to a different spell. We role played our party starting to bicker and squabble and vent frustrations. We did some minor friendly fire (agreed upon OOC and justified in RP and tactically due to the amount of enemies hit). We were a table that has spent a lot of time together prior, so there was no non-RP-fun drama, and luckily our healer was the only one not affected so they could still keep us alive.

Question on the warning stripes focus spell... If I cast it on my animal companion and they make an attack... Would that not be the animal companion touching that creature? Meaning that also that creature is touching the animal companion with the stripes, meaning that creature should take 2d8 poison damage?

Better yet, grappling. Automatic poison damage every round.

I'd homebrew natural conduit into a free action 🤷🏼‍♂️

Natural conduit and cast bane on the pet?
Animal str: i hate to give ghost touch to my main weapon because if the enemy os not a ghost it basicly in the way only. However nice to have it on a secondary, because it's so needed if you don't have ways to touch ghost. I don't know if you can combo this with a fury of manouvers monk shit, and strike and try to grapple the ghost XD
