I think it's because dogs don't know what's happening. They don't understand what they're going into like people do. They're just loyal no matter what, loyal to their handler/owner and will walk into death without even knowing of the possibility. It's sad and imo unnecessary, we shouldn't use animals in war.
Without those pups a lot people would have died, their blind loyalty and determination to help their humans is unmatched. Dogs are innocent bystanders in those situations and still show extreme courage and bravery.

Civilians, without the least bit of knowledge of combat and what it takes to win in battle, don’t realize that in order to fight monsters, sometimes you have to become one yourself. Even further, they don’t realize this is part of the sacrifice, because reintegrating back into society, as a monster, is the most difficult thing a person can ever do and most fully don’t. Interesting story. I read a book a few years back about a British Army, bomb detection dog in Afghanistan that also received the Dicken Medal. It was an interesting story too. These dogs undoubtedly save soldiers lives. It is fitting that we honour them.

Can you please do an episode on Z Special Unit (Original SASR) from Australia. They paddled 100 miles in foldable canoes into Singapore harbour in the dead of night (in WW2) attaching bombs to the Japanese fleet before paddling out. Sunk something like 8 Japanese ships including destroyers/cruisers.
