    I made a set of coasters using copies of old black and white photos of my brother when he was a kid instead of paper. He absolutely loved them. Easy to do and and fun to make. I've been thinking of using some scrap pieces of cotton fabric instead of paper. A way to use up some of my scrap bits of fabric.

    These are very pretty. I’ve had a hard time finding a really good sealer. I’ve tried the modpodge spray, I’ve tried different ones from Walmart. I actually found a sealer in the automotive section at Walmart its heat resistant to 2000 degrees F. I got it because I drink lots of coffee and wanted something I could put a hot cup on. It seems to work better than all the others I used.

    Hi Deana,
    So happy you and hubby treated yourself! Yes, Keep going! What a fun couple thing to do. I made these before, but for some reason they don't hold up to moisture. Hope you have lots of success with yours, they are adorable!

  • @donnar278
    @donnar278 3 года назад +3

    It depends on your cost of supplies. Let's just round everything up to $1. So, 4 tiles $1, paper $1, cork $1, two types of glue $1, a couple coats of sealer $1. That's $5 for supplies. It doesn't count selling fees, if any. So, if you sold a set for $10, you would net $5. I'd sell them for more. If you sell on Etsy, include an additional 17% of the selling price as a cost also.

Poor as a church mouse but also found a gal of elmers for a buck so making my own modge podge. Love the sealer idea. Not sure what ill use for the stamp n painted ones to seal but ill b looking around. Lol. Was thinking $10 a set of 4 would b a fair price so ur pricing is a go. Thanks for the new idea..🌹❤

    Watching this in Dec 2021; love your coasters!! You asked about pricing… If you went to a heat proof lacquer spray for the top and skipped the Mod Podge, you could sell these for probably $15-$16 for a set of four. Especially if they’re nicely presented. But, if you MP the the top and then seal with MP spray sealant, they’re not heat proof. So, you’d might need to lower the price to about $12. Polyvine is a great heat proof formula or you can use high heat clear engine enamel. Keep in mind that there are several formulas of the Polyvine. The ideal one has 3 shells on the front label. But, I have the formula with 1 shell and it’s still heat proof. It’s just very thick. So, you have to spread slowly and thinly. Most in my group are switching to the clear lacquer spray. Has a good hard finish and is heat proof. Costs only about $4 a can . Way cheaper than Polyvine. But remember, if you choose to use the clear lacquer, you don’t need to MP a top coat. Just a few coats lacquer.
    Really appreciate this great video. Nobody has shown how to cover the edges. Gives a much nicer , finished look. Hope you have more videos. Looking forward to watching them. You’re very sweet; God bless 💕

    Hi Deanna. Hoping you're having a great holiday weekend. These are gorgeous. I think if go $10.00 on these, at least that's what I'm going to start mine out with when I make them.
    Deanna, if like to take them time to tell you thank you. Not only do you give us great ideas for our craft fairs, you do it in such a way that it's easier to understand. You have a soothing voice. You're so encouraging and full of enthusiasm. You've been so inspiring to me. Deanna. I asked you to start doing stuff with your cricut and that you did. I'm happy to say that after months of having mine and being afraid of it once I got it, I finally started using mine this weekend. My daughter is putting in a nice little party got her two year old. It's going to be Mickey Mouse theme, so I thought I'd give it a try and see what I could make with this wonderful machine. I loved using it so much, that I stayed up all night playing with it and didn't go to sleep until 9ish in the evening. It's still a learning process for me, but that's how I've done things always. A little bit of trial and error. I've got all of these little pieces to puzzle together today while she takes his older brother and sister to Cedar Point with her dad. I'm so excited and live doing this. Deanna, thank you so much for your inspiration and making me want to be a better crafter. You've showed us all how to make so many things.i try making most of everything you show us and honestly I'm not even sure exactly what I want to take with me yet. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

    I'm finding this a "little bit" later... wondering if you had any further luck with testing of the sealer? I saw one comment that said they found it doesn't work well for coffee mugs and the heat. I also saw the other mention the Rustoleum High Heat in automotive. Just wondering if you tested that out at all? Friends have been getting together for a craft night once a month and I think this could be a fun craft for us, but want to make sure to give the best tips for making them as possible. Thanks Deanna!
