They do a fantastic job of making every single character interesting. Even the seemingly one-off joke villains like Doc Seismic or Komodo Dragon get to shine... they each end up having at least one moment that makes you do a double-take and go "Ok, EFF that guy!!"
Without spoiling anything, as somebody who read the comic I've been really happy with the editing they've done for the show, making some characters more fleshed out, keeping some characters alive who were killed off for shock value or lol's in the original. That kinda thing.
Agreed. The changes have been mostly minute and don’t take anything major away from the plot. By the time Season 3 is out though I’ll probably have reread the comics. Oh well. Only big gripe I have is the wait between part 1 and part 2 of season 2 when it was finished.

One thing that absolutely elevates the material is the voice acting. It feels so genuine and raw at times that it doesn’t even feel like people voice acting; it feels like actual people that were a fly on a wall to their lives. Steven Yeun (Mark) and Sandra Oh (Debbie) are just absolutely amazing in particular and really hit those emotional and softer moments so well.
Not to mention Yeun's performance as the alternate evil Invincibles. Particularly the yellow-black Invincible, who is designed to be portrayed as a psychopathic, sadistic overlord, and Yeun played the part to perfection

I gotta say, I was impressed with the voice acting and sound design of the angstrom levy fight. When mark snaps and he goes ballistic and he screams that blood curdling “EVERRRR” I had goosebumps. It was the first time, in a long time I was cheering on a fictional character while I watched.
dude sterling brown killed it with Angstrom too. he sounds *so* unhinged and rage-filled. "I WON'T REST UNTIL I'VE KÆÏLLED [INVINCIBLE]" "I DON'T WANT YA TA DIE IN SOME RRRANDOM DIMENSION. I WANNA DO IT MOYSELF"
They really delivered. From stuff like Rex's character arc, to the music choice, they really hit the nail on the head with everything. Also can we appreciate Steven Yeun's voice acting this season? Like he already cooked in season 1, but ZAMN
What’s even more interesting about Omni man wanting to die is i don’t think its because the killing he now feels remorse for. He realizes what he’s done is terrible but still thinks he should die because he betrayed the viltrumites. He’s completely conflicted and can’t make sense of it, yet. At least that’s how I took that scene.
It's absolutely both. "I'm not a Viltrumite anymore" is an oddly specific statement to make in regard to wanting to die. He clearly sees himself as a betrayer of his people and he's having inner conflict reconciling that part of himself much like Mark struggled to reconcile being a Viltrumite after killing Angstrom. Notice how Mark, Omni-man and Debbie all have identically swollen eyes, signifying they all share a mutual pain. Absolutely wonderful writing.
@@aesop2733 I don't see that at all. He doesn't seem conflicted at all regarding being a viltrumite. He hasn't really been conflicted on that the whole season. He was dead set on being a hero on thraxan by the start of the season. "I'm not a viltrumite anymore" means he actually genuinely feel for the people hurt. I don't see anything indicating he feels bad over betraying the viltrumites in that scene. Maybe there's a scene I'm missing?
@@Juel92 What about on Thraxan when Omni literally ask Mark, “why do I care about these lesser beings, they’re weak and I shouldn’t” something along those lines. He’s absolutely having an inner conflict about being a Viltrumite.
I was hooked on the voice acting and just marks entire struggle in the conversation with his dad in season 1, the first time he puts on goggles and a crappy outfit and goes out by himself. When he cracks and says “I wanna be like you, dad.” Really hits hard especially knowing what a false perception he has
Invincible really is an amazing show with a lot of depth and complex characters, also quite self-aware of the hero genre with some jabs at other franchises and animation in general. The voice actors also do an amazing job, especially Mark's (Steven Yeun, Glenn in The Walking Dead). Really would recommend anyone to watch it
@@Notme-255 it has good animation for a show that every episode is 50 min But it doesn't matter anyway the reason they did that joke isn't cause of them having good its just an adaptation from the comics into animation Wich they did pretty well I think ppl would've been upset if they didn't
0:44 Charlie you hit the nail on the head, I thought it was a simple kids superhero show. The show is fine and innocent for like 5 minutes or so, then the gruesome unfiltered carnage occurs. The shock I had was impossible to explain.
Debbie used to be my 2nd favorite character but now she's my favorite alongside Omni Man , her personality is so strong and the last episode of season 2 shows it .
The final line being “I think I miss my wife” is absolutely awesome. His time on Earth, despite him denying it, did have a massive impact on his thought process. He no longer is a full-on sociopathic warrior, rather he actually feels shame for what he did and wants to go back to his old life.
I love how the beatdown in the last episode mimicks the one in the finale of season 1. The poster with omniman's reflection in the blood below mark makes a lot more sense now.
shit is stupid the guy mutilated his mom. Only a worthless bum would leave him alive like how tf does that make you anything like omniman that’s just dumb
The show is such a testament to how amazing the comic book is. With something like The Boys they had to change so many core aspects of the comic to squeeze a good show out of the premise, but Invincible is more or less a direct adaptation. Robert Kirkman was just next level when he was writing this.
@@breakthecode4634 ….what? It’s following the story of the comic almost beat for beat. Yeah there’s the occasional small change but that’s how adaptation works.
@@JustAnotherAccount8 how does changing the race or gender of side characters affect the story in any way? That’s not something that should bother you my dude.
@@prime7213 i guarantee you would not feel the same were it reversed. It even has its own name: whitewashing. I loved the show, but changing the race hurts, white people are constantly being made out to be the enemy, thats why it matters. Edit: if it happened every now and then, I wouldn’t have a problem with it. But its becoming increasingly more common, only against white characters.
The change of “that” famous line for the finale was so fucking good. So much more character driven than just being a badass moment that’s almost out of charcter.
Honestly the coolest part wasn't even the fights. The coolest part of the show for season 2 was Omni Man staring into the abyss of a black hole, awaiting the slowly encroaching death of gravitational disintegration but his body was ever so slightly immune to it, letting him have the opportunity to save the Thraxans before they were gonna die.
I read the comic some odd years ago and seeing the show changing the pacing and characters is so nice to see. It just makes the entire experience even better.
Part of the reason I love invincible is the powers are applied in such amazing ways. The shrinking rae example you had, as well as duplicate's spoiler this season. It makes a lot of sense these things would work this way, while in plenty of other superhero series, lots of those who don't have super strength absolutely do, otherwise it would make what they do impossible. (Looking at you especially, batman)
It really is. I also liked the villain. Angstrom Levy is a very compelling villain. Levy seemed like a truly good person that wanted to help not only his world but many, many, many others. In most universes, he seems to be the good guy while Mark is more often the bad guy. Levy even saved Mark's life when he took the helmet off. If he did not, the Maulers would have beat him to death. Even when he was in the middle of accomplishing his ultimate goal, Angstrom cared about someone trying to stop him enough to try and save that person's life. But when he got the memories of all his alternate selves combined with the pain and disfigurement he is suffering through, he was consumed with hatred for Mark and became the villain to destroy an actual good Mark. Keep in mind that in most dimensions, Mark actually ends up siding with his father to take over the Earth, so Angstrom has a lot of memories of Mark doing terrible things.
@@117MasterSpartan I respectfully disagree. Not exactly a random person when he has the ability to jump to and bring people in and out of universes any time he wants. His brain was overloaded with information from his alternate selves experiencing the many terrible things alternate Marks did to the point that he does not know who he is anymore nor can he understand that the Mark in this universe is not a monster like the others. A good person turned villain killed by the person he saved from being killed by the Maulers. He was the one who was good in most universes, but now Levy is the evil anomaly in the universe where Mark is the good anomaly.

One of my favorite details is how they throw in the invincible title screen. Every episode I keep it in the back of my mind and try to guess where they are going to throw it in. If you’ve seen the show you’ll know what I mean
I truly love how Invincible is not a parody of superheroes like The Boys is more or less, but Invincible is fully telling it's own story about superheroes while not being scared to show some gore and scary realisms of a superhero universe. And the character development is fantastic
Dude invincible is genuinely my favorite show rn, the pacing is amazing I rarely am at the edge of my seat waiting for another episode. The acting is PHENOMENAL. Its all so so good in every way.

I love that realization character arc that Omni man goes through. It reminds me of Reiner Brauns character from attack on titan and I think he’s one of the most beautifully written characters of all time. A good reminder to the audience that it’s never too late to change. Glad to see where this show is going.
the last episode of this season with Angstrom, my god. One of the best and absolutely brutal and heartwrenching things i've seen in media. blown away by how good this season was
I’m super glad I read the comics in school, but it’s literally been 10 years since then and I quite honestly let Invincible go in my heart and once I saw they were making invincible I knew it would bring traction back to invincible… I’m hoping more comics come out! Maybe more of Nolan’s conquests and maybe future stuff about the cast
I love that you're talking about this since you have a huge following, which brings more attention to the show getting it more money and quicker production time so THANK YOU!
I love this show so much, disregarding the mid-season break which I can't lie was definitely annoying but I understand why they did it, it's just such a well written and enticing story (with a big part thanks to the comics) and just genuinely seems like everyone involved genuinely loves the story. Even the time where the animators/writers hinted towards why the season took so long in the Comicon scene doesn't feel like they were doing it to spite the viewer or to justify it, but rather to be honest to the fans why it's taking so long and what they do behind the scenes to make sure it can be as high quality as possible and released fast for the viewers. You can genuinely feel just how much this team loves the show.
The invincible split reminded me of aot season 4 which was the main reason i stopped caring about aot used to be my favorite anime and then they decided to split the last season into like 6 parts
same, at least with invincible they said they were doing a break, and they actually finished the season after the break… the way AOT did it was so confusing and completely took the air out of the sails on that show
The whole cast has SO much range in their voices. The emotions put on display this season were phenomenal, and it was only made better by the action and story. I can never get enough of this show. I rewatched season 1 like 6 times while I waited for season 2 and it feels like I’ll probably be doing it again for this season. A masterclass in storytelling.
Omni-man’s development has been just as enjoyable to me as watching Reiner’s internal struggles in AoT. I absolutely love their character arcs. On a side note, I loved how the Lizard league reminded me that this isn’t a happy-go-lucky super hero show. As soon as it went back to Eve, Robot, Invincible, and everyone else fighting the aliens, I was genuinely worried for all side characters. Before the lizard league scene, I was certain that everyone was coming back alive. So that lizard league scene was a GREAT reminder that no one is safe. It essentially said “GET BACK TO THE EDGE OF YOUR SEAT RIGHT NOW OR ILL KILL OFF YOUR FAVORITE SIDE CHARACTER.”
This show is basically the closest to an anime in terms of sticking with the canon of the comics. Regardless of how long it takes to release new seasons, I’ll always look forward to watching it since I love the comics so much.
Surprised you didnt talk about Amber’s complete 180 of a character. She’s never called out for what she did but the writers make it VERY clear that she now understands that the soup kitchen isnt as important as Mark saving the planet
We will never forget the greatness of LBG’s video on Amber but it was clear they didn’t intend on Amber being that shallow. Well at least it turned out for the better
@TP-pq9xx I think William is alright he gets some cool scenes and with Amber, well to be honest we can't really get too attached to her and I think if you saw what happened in some of the scnes in the last episodes (5-8 but especially 8) you know exactly why. In some ways I think they could've done better but on the other hand they messed up her character so hard last season that this was the best they could've done to salavage her tbh
@TP-pq9xxNah, William is great in season 2. We finally see the whole my-best-friend-is-a-superhero life truly affecting him personally and in ways that are deeper and can't be punched away. It was a great, grounded story
“I think I miss my wife” like bruh you should’ve thought about that before you almost killed her son *AND* then proceeds to procreate with an insect. 😭
My main problem with that is that some characters doesn't deserve redemption arcs. Omniman being one of them. He straight up murders a bunch of people and what? The world is suppose to forgive him? Maruem too. There are actions you cannot come back from. That is the main point for not wanting to watch Invincible.
@@j.lucasdecastroaraujo761i think what makes it a little better is that i dont think he’ll ever really be forgiven for it. He may be able to prove that he’s no longer a bad person, but he probably won’t just be able to come back like nothing happened, especially since debbie has had her whole arc. It also helps that he basically went through the space equivalent of the hitler youth.
2:26 I swear that reminded me so much of that cutscene in Halo where the prophets are telling the Arbiter about thier grief losing Halo and Truth comes in "Setting aside our grief, our faith was restored that other rings would be found"
Invincible and the Boys are both some of the best shows out right now in general , not just for super hero genre . Invincible has better protagonist but the boys has villains on lock . Homelander is the best villain I’ve seen in a show , largely in part to Antony Starr’s performance as him . Overall they set out to do very different things with their worlds and stories so I can’t really compare them and say which is better because they both have such incredible writing . Seth Rogens been crushing it with the super hero /comic series . He produced Preacher , the boys and Invincible
There's so much nuance and depth to all the characters' and their arcs. Spoiler: They even foreshadow and justify why Debbie is willing to take in and raise Oliver. She clearly misses Mark, is exhibiting signs of 'empty nest syndrome', and the aftermath of season 1 has left her feeling weak, and not helpless. Even though it seems unrealistic that she'd agree to raise Nolan's alien child, they build up really, really well how attached she gets to him, and show just how much he looks like Mark. When Mark battles and beats Angstrom, the whole exchange ends up showing that Mark's resistance to ending anyone else's life isn't really because of his principals. It's become compulsive for him. He goes way beyond what any normal person would have done to try and avoid ending Angstrom, because Mark is so terrified from what he's seen of his father and the Viltrumites. He doesn't want to be like them. But, when Angstrom finally flips that switch, Mark goes gorilla mode and shows no hesitation in what he does. Angstrom wanted to prove that Mark was a bad guy. He didn't do that. But he did show Mark Greyson that he's not as good as he thinks. It's such incredibly strong character writing that has so much depth and symbolism.
I mean mark did the wrong thing lol in no way was mark wrong. Only wrong thing he did was rush into the given situation that created angstrom and start making accusations. Mind you invincible was gonna help him eventually But yea mark did the right thing!
Nobody talks about how affectionate Oliver was to everyone he met throughout the entire season. Especially to Mark. EVERY time he sees Mark, he wants to be cradled by him
When I look at superhero media I always put those superheroes in three categories: Children’s superhero, major superhero and dark superhero. And Invincible is definitely a dark superhero but in a good way and I see it like this: Invincible tackles the emotional impact of superheroes. And stuff like The Boys and Watchmen tackles the social impact of superheroes. And other movies like Hancock or Irredeemable tackle the physical impact of superheroes. They all have something to say and bring to the table of what kind of story they want to tell and that’s amazing considering the fact that some of these stories have some of the same beats or characters.
I saw and agreed with this comment "I will never make another Bobby Hill joke of Donald." After season two, I and others respect some non main character more as well as the main characters. Its crazy how good the writing is and how even a side character for me and others can go so far.
I'm so glad I never read the comics, I just started the show last year and this season was even better! With the little tease of Mark and Eve at the end, I can't wait for season 3
I feel like Rexplode represents the minimum requirements needed to be a superhero. You just need a super power, a wreckless nature, and a desire to fight villains.
1:40 I remember a few months ago that I binged the entire first season and the first four episodes of the second. I enjoyed it as well and also initially thought it was weird that they opted to go on hiatus mid-season when they did. That was until I saw the scenes where we got legally distinct Spider-Man and Batman and then I understood why they would have probably needed that hiatus. In the comics, Invincible actually had went to the Marvel Universe and that was supposed to actually be Spider-Man in that scene. My guess for the hiatus is that Amazon needed time to try and secure the rights to use Spider-Man and Batman, but either couldn't or were rejected by DC and Marvel. And since they said that they had the episodes ready to air, I think those they had were ones that had the actual characters and not the parodies we got. And because of any attempt at a deal fell through, they probably had to edit/scrap/cut what they needed to in order to make it work with what they readily had. Again, this is just my guess and not confirmed, since I watch another series that ended up having to pause a season because of legal/contractual reasons with voice actors used, so I can see this being a similar case.
It’s such a good show, I finished season 2 yesterday and even though the hype kinda fell off due to them stopping production halfway through the season, it honestly picked right back up again the next episode.
I also liked when they broke the 4th dimension in that comic con episode, where the animator was talking about tricks on how to produce stuff faster and they were doing it on that episode during their talk
Is it? I thought it was kind of bad taste considering the animation quality downgrading along with the wait time. Which is nuts considering the insane budget amazon has. Plus the left the best part of the joke from the comic....
Season 3 is gonna release October 2025, more than a year and a half from now. Such an insanely ridiculous idea by these writers so now everyone will have to keep rewatching the entirety of the show everytime a new season comes out just to remember what happened. Such a waste of amazing storytelling.
An additional issue with the invincible break was that the seasons are only 8 episodes. Getting 4 weeks on and 3 months away is a weird break. It’s like getting not enough of the show twice, leaving you less fulfilled

What’s even more interesting about Omni man wanting to die is i don’t think its because the killing he now feels remorse for. He realizes what he’s done is terrible but still thinks he should die because he betrayed the viltrumites. He’s completely conflicted and can’t make sense of it, yet. At least that’s how I took that scene.
i think he wanted to die because of guilt but it can go both ways yeah
Nah he thinks he should die for what he did on earth.

The show is such a testament to how amazing the comic book is. With something like The Boys they had to change so many core aspects of the comic to squeeze a good show out of the premise, but Invincible is more or less a direct adaptation. The coolest part of the show for season 2 was Omni Man staring into the abyss of a black hole, awaiting the slowly encroaching death of gravitational disintegration but his body was ever so slightly immune to it, letting him have the opportunity to save the Thraxans before they were gonna die.

The guy is literally a random person who appears once, has a brain overload, and then at the end to kill mark. It’s not that compelling 💀
I called it the “ AOT Treatment.” The MOMENT I heard the “season 2 part 2” bullshit
same, at least with invincible they said they were doing a break, and they actually finished the season after the break… the way AOT did it was so confusing and completely took the air out of the sails on that show
The whole cast has SO much range in their voices. The emotions put on display this season were phenomenal, and it was only made better by the action and story. I can never get enough of this show.

Surprised you didnt talk about Amber’s complete 180 of a character. She’s never called out for what she did but the writers make it VERY clear that she now understands that the soup kitchen isnt as important as Mark saving the planet
They retconned her character because of the backlash/hate for her character last season.

Yeah problem is most of his happens off screen.

Spoiler:
They even foreshadow and justify why Debbie is willing to take in and raise Oliver.
Mind you invincible was gonna help him eventually
But yea mark did the right thing!
Nobody talks about how affectionate Oliver was to everyone he met throughout the entire season. Especially to Mark. EVERY time he sees Mark, he wants to be cradled by him

Love to see Charlie's smile when he's genuinely happy about something
I'm so glad you like Invincible. I love it even more after this season
When I look at superhero media I always put those superheroes in three categories: Children’s superhero, major superhero and dark superhero. And Invincible is definitely a dark superhero but in a good way and I see it like this:
Invincible tackles the emotional impact of superheroes.

I remember a few months ago that I binged the entire first season and the first four episodes of the second.
Charlie spitting on his desk is going to be one of the new best clips of him in 2024 lmao 🤣🤣🤣

That smile at the beginning was everything
I also liked when they broke the 4th dimension in that comic con episode, where the animator was talking about tricks on how to produce stuff faster and they were doing it on that episode during their talk
that scene with the animation jokes are so well done honestly way better than the humor marvel tries to do
That scene had me dying 💀💀 it was so good
Just watched that episode a few mins ago and was suprised about the Naruto akatsuki reference.
It reminded me of the South Park movie when they make a similar joke...
Is it? I thought it was kind of bad taste considering the animation quality downgrading along with the wait time. Which is nuts considering the insane budget amazon has.
Plus the left the best part of the joke from the comic....
Charlie smiled over it, I have to watch it now
Season 3 is gonna release October 2025, more than a year and a half from now.
