As a borderlands fan, i can assure you, none of us asked for this movie. We knew it would suck the moment we heard kevin heart was playing Roland and kate blanchett as Lilith.
This movie is randy pitchfords wet dream. None of the fans wanted this, none of the developers wanted this, no one wanted this. Randy Pitchford's ego told him he had to make a movie and he spearheaded the entire thing.
It's funny because with how well Deadpool is performing at the box office, being a rated-R movie with excessively gruesome violence, it's literally what should have happened with Borderlands.
That's because it's clear the people behind Deadpool and Wolverine are passionate fans who truly cared to make a great movie. Meanwhile this was seemingly made by corporate drones who were passionate about making money.
I think that's the weird catch 22 with videogame adaptations. Teens are playing these games although technically they shouldn't be based on the rating. So the film studio has to water it down to get the PG-13 rating so they can pull teens into the theater but by doing that they stomp all over the franchise.
And people DO take their kids to see it. I think the fan base for Borderlands is more likely to be of age than the 10 year Olds whose parents bring them to see Deadpool
@@shogunpug4071it definitely wouldn’t but it would at least be somewhat closer to what the game adaptation film should’ve been without restrictions. This is just so disappointing that this video game adaptation was done so badly. Makes the older MK movies look a lot better.
I found it on RUclips. I've seen far worst Hollywood movies. It was funny. It was fast paced and it is akin to the "B" movies that were a staple in the 1950's, 1960's and the 1970's. This guy above sounds like he was paid to hate on this movie. IT is very watchable.
Tell me you never played a single borderlands game without telling me you never played a borderlands game. You cast Kevin Hart, a known comedian, to play Roland, the most serious character in that game.
To be fair, comedians can do well acting a serious character, the best example being Bryan Cranston as Walter White. It's just that this is Kevin Hart we're talking about
Borderlands megafan here, I thought it was a bad cast at first as well, but kevin hart actually did a pretty good job. Also, im convinced no one actually knows how roland acts, because especially in borderlands 1, which is closer to how this movie takes place as far as roland and lilith goes, he actually sounds a lot more upbeat like kevin hart does. And in the movie, kevin doesnt actually make very many quips during the movie, and is still his stoic self.
@@Spiky-gs3eg I love Kevin. But I knew it was fucked instantly when I see how terrible the casting was and that they didn’t use the claptrap’s og voice. I just knew they were trying to get celebrity points and weird out of balance female power.
@Cheesepuff8 He genuinely doesn't understand what made the series strong for the first 2 games. He truly believes that the zany kookily cringey humor is what Borderlands is all about. This is why every title after the first Tales is so hellbent on being a "comedy." Randy is not just out of touch with this franchise or its fan base. He's in a completely alternate dimension with it.
From the beginning, like from the first trailers, I could tell the Borderlands movie was going to bomb in theaters. I have never had that happen to me. No one knew what they were doing, the casting except for Jack Black was awful, and the story, I swear, was written by artificial intelligence. The millions spent were for nothing.
The Borderlands film was cast *so* poorly I almost think there’s a conspiracy behind it. There’s no way an act of malevolence isn’t behind this dinosaur turd.
It's not so much malevolence, as much as they just don't care. It's a "video game movie" so it's expected to fail, will probably use it for a tax exemption. Honestly it feels like games overall have kind of surpassed what Hollywood puts out lately. Cuz in a world where the Mario movie breaks all records despite just basically following the game Hollywood needs to understand that they really don't have to deviate that far from the base story and just respect the source material to rack in some serious cash. Like it's going to the point to where if a game movie is at least mediocre it'll still stand head and shoulders above the Sea of slop
I think the only way the casting is "bad" is if they are bad actors. If someone is supposed to be in their 30s or 40s and is played by someone in their 60s(Jamie Lee Curtis) and that character's age isn't integral to the story, then it shouldn't matter. I don't care if the character had a beard in the source material and the actor is clean shaven. The goofs online care, but story is what matters. And it seems like the story is what is truly horrible.
This movie is just the perfect storm of awful trash: - been in production hell for probably more than a decade - everyone lost interest both in the project and in the IP, Borderlands as a video game franchise is kinda creatively bankrupt - hire a director with a dubious resume - cast a lot of A-list actors that demand Scrooge McDuck levels of cash - be sure all of these actors are well over 50, so they'll be more believable doing stunts at retirement age - totally ignore your source material, even mock it if you dare. - write in the most cringe and ridiculous humor AI can come up with - let chatGPT write everything else since you're there - underpay and overwork your FX artists and proceed to make your movie look like shit - bloat even more the budget with bullshit and reshoots, surpass well over 100M $ - choose the same timeslot as an heavy hitter like deadpool for releasing the movie.
100% so many games to make live action and expand on story. Borderlands was always just a goofy story with goofy Characters, was nothing special. The world aesthetic and gameplay is what made it great which don't translate to a live action movie
What sucks the most is Borderlands could've made for a great action action comedy movie. But they got some nobody to direct, put in almost no effort anywhere in the film, dragged actors into it who clearly didn't want to be there. And then put it out thinking "Yeah, this'll sell."
@@MichiganJFrog. except it really isn’t selling. This is going down as the biggest box office bomb in history. It’s so bad it’s already going up for sale digitally in a weak attempt to recover money but I doubt many will buy it there either. I’ll watch when it becomes available on an app I already pay for but I won’t be giving any money direct to this movie
I must bring up that the director, Eli Roth, isn't some nobody. He is a director with 20 years of directing experience and a bunch of well received movies. Doesn't excuse this movie however
There's a scene in the film where they find a flower blooming underground, and it's a beautiful moment. Then, claptrap stomps on it, grinds it into the dust, and proceeds to ask why everyone's so sensitive. That was actually showing how the directors handled Borderlands
@@eeWMan Hammerlock was always black, I didn't realize because he's a brit and my american brain excludes blacks from hammerlock level prestige in Britain hahah, didn't hammerlock get cut out of the movie completely?

Have you seen the source material? Borderlands has some of the cringiest writing on the planet I have no idea who thought making a Borderlands movie was a good idea
I knew it would suck when the trailer had them go through Piss Wash Gully or something. Borderlands has toilet humor for sure, but never as bad as having an entire zone be just urine geysers.
First I knew of this movie came at 4 am today. Clocked the costume design as Borderlands almost immediately, but the casting alone killed the movie before I knew anything else about it.
I saw the trailer for it at Deadpool didn’t even know it was coming out. A few seconds into it, I could tell it would be trash. Glad I didn’t see it earlier and get excited about it.
Yeah, it was painfully obvious this movie would be dogshit given the geriatric/vertically-challenged casting choices. Not even Jack Black could salvage his role for Christ's sake
@@gjfk not rlly, was mid a$$ casting & random asf but didn’t by default mean the movie was gonna flop as hard as it did. Plenty of movies have had that kinda questionable casting & ended up being decent which imo is a milestone this day & age. Like will smith as the genie & he did ok, wasn’t terrible wasn’t incredible was just ok
Sometimes I think that in order to make a movie this bad, you need to make it bad on purpose. If you ask a random person on the street to make a movie with this cast, they are bound to make at least a 3-4/10 movie, not a -1/10. That level of terribleness has to be on purpose. Maybe they thought that if it was bad enough, it would gain a cult following or something. If you put a random person in charge, and you just let the actors improvise, you would get such a much better movie.
Borderlands has felt PG-13 for a while now for me, idk what you're talking about. I feel like they've been playing it very safe ever since BL3. It has detailed gore and curse words, sure, but the humor has been really safe and lame. Dated memes and fart jokes, safe-edgy and overall terrible attempts of humor. And I'm not even talking about whatever the fuck is in New Tales yet.
@@forkme3165 welcome to modern Borderlands then, unfortunately we're here. BL2's humor didn't age super well, it's VERY 2012 but at least there are jokes that we still laugh about to this day, and this is true for BL1 as well. BL3 humor was never good and it's somehow even MORE aged than the previous games

Some history here - Craig Mazin (The Last of Us, Chernobyl) wrote the original script. Reportedly the script was really good and lots of studios went into a bidding war for it. Once the movie was greenlit and Eli Roth began directing. Apparently he completely butchered the script to his liking. So bad in fact Craig Mazin completely backed out from even having his name attached to the project. It finished primary filming in summer of 2021 and here we are in 2024. The production hell shows with that fact alone. The film was originally R rated and a lot more game accurate and but like I said, had 3 years in the cutting room can change that. In the final stages of reshoots Tim Miller (Deadpool 1) was hired to come in and basically scavenge any of the action to spice it up any amount. Not even that could save it I guess lol.
As a huge Tiny Tina fan, like I aimed to be like her when I was young, I knew from the first trailer that everything was gonna suck. I told my partner “I will only watch it for Jack Black” and wouldn’t you know it, he’s the only good part. ALL MY FRIENDS SAID “oh just give it a chance!” WHAT DID I SAY HM? AM I CRAZY NOW??
They lost me at having no handsome Jack. Then pissed me off by having Kreig there if his name is even Kreig in the movie and not having Maya, the ONLY reason Kreig got into contact and works with the vault hunters.
The budget went to the unnecessary cast of A and B list celebrities. For instance why do we need Jack black to do claptrap’s voice? I’m sure the ACTUAL voice of claptrap would have been much more affordable, but for the sake of slapping big names on a screen to sell tickets they blew the budget.
EXACTLY! They know kids will watch because of the names. But they have the worst acting skills. You could throw ANYBODY in front of a camera and they will act better
People keep saying this don't know that the original voice actor of Claptrap and Gearbox had a falling out. It's the reason why he didn't return for BL3.
@@samuelonthatop1125 kids are not beating down the door to watch Cate Blanchett and Jamie Lee Curtis. The casting seemed like a list of people Randy Pitchford thought were cool at some point.
@@samuelonthatop1125 ah, yes, I can almost imagine the sea of kids pounding the doors of the theatres to be the first ones to see Jamie Lee Curtis in this movie. Sure.
They spent the ENTIRE fucking budget on casting A and B list celebrities for the big names to be attached to the film. They made it PG-13 instead of M-rated like the games, and they casted THE WORST people even with the budget. Jack black for Claptrap? Why? The ACTUAL VA for Claptrap would have been much cheaper AND better! Why is everyone so damn old? They look NOTHING even remotely similar to the charaxters! Seriously this shit gets on my nerves because Hollywood ALWAYS shits on our favorite things just to try and make money.
I heard somewhere that even if they wanted the Claptrap voice actor that he doesn’t want to be a part of the games anymore and wasn’t in Borderlands 3. Even if he would though they still would’ve paid Jack Black
I find it weird how everyone is harping on the ONE casting choice that's at least somewhat proper. Claptrap is by far the BEST casting choice this moving makes in regards to it's main cast.
@@huntersuper98 It being the best decision in the movie doesn’t mean much when it’s so ass. They cast fucking Kevin heart as Roland. The reason we’re talking about that as well is because Claptrap’s voice is one of his most important characteristics. We’re not harping on just the voice. If you read the rest of my comment you see I call out the rest of the castings IMMEDIATELY afterward. The entire movie was terrible.
@@thememelord465 Yes, and I was pointing out the weird hyper fixation from people in these comments about the one decent casting. I could tell it was gonna be bad from the first 15 seconds of one of the trailers. I was talking about the bad casting upon looking at them when the trailers released lol. Idk why you're trying to make a point like I'm saying the movie is somehow good. Also the original VA for claptrap is impossible to get because he won't do work for the Borderlands franchise ever again after BL 2.
@@huntersuper98 No my focus was on the casting of the entire movie. I haven’t even seen the movie which is why I threw Jack blacks casting in there in passing since this is my first time hearing of it. Don’t assume shit you clearly have no way of knowing. You seem to be the one hyper fixated on anything JB related though… Never once made it seem like you said the movie was good. I said that Jacks casting being the “best” isn’t saying much with how the rest were chosen. They don’t need the original VA. Borderlands 3 has a COMPLETELY new guy voicing Claptrap and most people who don’t look into the games or follow the VAs wouldn’t even be able to tell. They just need someone who sounds similar. Could’ve easily paid for that with that 100m budget.
The fact they went for a 55 year old woman to play the pink haired, punk, femme fatale will never cease to astound me. Can we talk about how bad the marketing was for this film? I saw ads for it AFTER the movie came out and when I saw Charlie upload this I thought I was tripping balls because I thought the film wasn't out yet.
My friend, a borderlands super fan, found out the movie existed when he went to the cinema a few weeks ago and there was a poster in the cinema. Not one ad
Dont know if this was posted, Straight from IMDB "The movie was shot in the summer of 2021 and Eli Roth's first director's cut was reportedly finished in early 2022. However, it was shelved for over two years due to extreme studio interference while the film was in post-production. Appalled by the film's extreme violence, the studio wanted the film to be marketed as a blockbuster and hired Tim Miller to do extensive reshoots on the project. These reshoots ended up comprising so much of the final movie that Steve Jablonsky had to write an entirely new musical score, as the original score by Nathan Barr no longer fit the film." Also "Eli Roth originally shot the movie with a planned hard R-rating, keeping in vein with the original game's M-rating for mature audiences. However, last-minute rewrites, heavy edits, and reshoots from Tim Miller dialed the film back to a PG-13...."
Tim Miller, the guy who co-created the first Deadpool, said “Ryan Reynolds is a control freak” And now, as Deadpool and Wolverine explodes with popularity, Tim Miller got controlled into making a potentially good movie awful. Lmao
I think at this point Hollywood is genuinely using video game adaptations as a means to launder the budget and get a tax write-off for the movie flopping, there's no other explanation for why they continue to fail relentlessly forever
Probably went to the producer's pocket. Same thing happened to Battlefield Earth. The budget they shot for that movie was like 75 million dollars and only 20 million dollars been used for making the movie.
That scene with the flashing lights in the tunnel literally gave me a headache. I remember wondering how it turned out for any epileptic that saw the film, as there didn’t seem to be any warning beforehand
It's alarming to see such a terrible adaptation that disrespects the potential of the source material. The makers should've done better with this film.
@@VindexSolis I'll give you Borderlands 3, but the other games, despite their jokes, still had serious stakes when it came to it. Borderlands 2 especially. After the deaths of Angel and Roland, things take quite a shift. There's still jokes afterwards, sure, but things were much more serious and grim.
Didnt you know? Thats the trend nowadays. Halo, The Witcher, Cowboy Bebop, Deathnote, (and now Borderlands) etc were all adapted in TV shows/films by people that knew nothing about the IP nor interacted with source material. And to make matters worse, Amazon is apparently working on a Yakuza Like a Dragon TV series where they are casting people who have never played any of the games into all of the character roles and scriptwriters. Just seems to be the trend now I guess
They shouldn't have made a Borderlands movie to begin with. It's a video game franchise that had no place being on the big screen. No movie (no matter how good it could've been if they hired people that actually cared about the games) could've told the story of Borderlands as good or better than the games did.
Just went on a little investigation. It seems like the script was actually great ,written by Craig Mazin, responsible for Chernobyl and The Last Of Us. This was until Eli Roth got involved and made your classic Hollywood changes, so Craig ended up leaving the project. Nothing of this is fully confirmed, but it seems to be the case. Also, all 5 and 4 star reviews on Rotten Tomatoes are from accounts that only reviewed this "movie", basically bots that rate this movie higher so it doesn't look that bad on them. Jeez, just goes to show how disgusting this industry is.
Eli Roth didn't complete the film, as he was committed to making Thanksgiving, so the reshoots were handled by Tim Miller. All blame for the movie's quality is the fault of the studio interference, not Roth, or even Miller.
Took two seconds to google and already found two articles stating Craig was never involved. The one I read had Craig stating in an interview that he never wrote a single bit for the film and claims of using a pseudonym for the credits are false too lol. Really was just written by Eli Roth and Joe Crombie only.
@@sourpuss5951 his name was in the official promo and website for a while until it got removed. After that he started claiming that he was not involved in the script in any way. I am a fan of borderlands, my wife is a gamer, and her mother is a movie watcher. As we all watched the movie, we could agree it was as good as around spy kids level of film. Which makes this more of a family friendly movie. It certainly is not worse than monster hunter. As a borderlands fan, the lore pretty much held solid for the most part. So the reviews that are trashing it so hard on rotten tomatoes isn't even considering the level of movies that have previously been reviewed, even recently, like monster hunter. It's not a great movie, but it's not a bad movie.
Man, worse than Tarot is actually insane. What a year for bad movies. Every time Charlie says "this is the worst movie of the year" Hollywood claps back with an even worse one just to prove them wrong. I find it mind boggling that Hollywood is burning this much money, surly at some point they have to stop, right?
Considering that it's adapting a fairly popular franchise, it didn't even have to that good to get a pass & apparently, from what people I personally know have told me, the movie didn't even manage that. So that's what would it make it worse than Tarot because nobody cared about that movie. Borderlands has a built in fan base that it seems are going to be mostly disappointed.
everyonee makes Randy Pitchford to be this villain, last time i checked some if not any accusation that was against him was fake. he isnt whats wrong with Borderlands, thats the people they hire to help with the games, he didnt write the story for 3 or anything.. that was a bbunch of people that were hired and had not a clue what to do. if i remember after the release of 3 and the ratings came in, they got fired
So sad. I have such fond memories of going to Walmart with my brothers, realizing the game was on sale for $40 Canadian, each picking up a copy, and then playing it with them + my bf for days going through the story, collecting guns, etc. Fortunately, this movie can't touch that memory.

I love Cate Blanchett. I really do. She's great. But the character she's supposed to be playing is like 20-30 years younger than her. And _why_ is Kevin Hart in it???
Because in movies this bad the only way to pull some people in is the "oh I like Kevin heart" angle. I told my mum not to watch morbius but she likes Jarrod letto so she watched it, she also likes Kevin heart and cate blanchett so I bet if I ask her next week she will have gone and seen it.
I hate to break it to you people, but I called this at the very announcement of the movie; live-action movies trying to interpret in their own style the work of other animated products, almost NEVER works out. Plus, look at the cast, I'm not saying they're not great actors, but this lineup is a fucking joke and nowhere close to what people would need to fill in the roles of the extremely diverse and unique characters of the Borderlands game series.
Why does Hollywood hate video games? Like it’s such good source material. It comes with a built in fan base. They could print money. And yet they choose to butcher every video game adaptation. It’s intentional atp. I feel like a kid asking my father why he doesn’t love me 😂😂😂
Envy. The video game industry is now the largest entertainment industry in the world, while Hollywood continues to produce flop after flop. But in their arrogance and narcissism they cannot realize that THEY are the problem, and thus make these snide mockeries of video games. They don’t respect them because they see gaming as a thing for losers, children, social outcasts, instead of one of the largest hobby in the world. They can’t fathom that the reason their films are not making enough money is because they’re simply not enjoyable.
It's really unfortunate because in the future if someone ever wanted to reboot and try again, studio execs will look at the dumpster fire this movie is, see how much money it loses, and it will never see the light of day. When Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Cate Blanchett were announced, we all knew this is what it would be.
Good. Some stories are better told in the medium of games. Borderlands is it's genre, it's just shoot and level up combined. A shooter with classes and rpg stuff. That's it, that's the whole selling point. The story serves purely to be a framework for you to shoot and level up in. That's why people don't like the series as much from the third game on. They tried making it all about learning about the characters and the worldbuilding, with a chosen one story, and it wasn't about the players experience anymore. A PLAYER EXPERIENCE. The story is made as the player shoots. And levels up. That's the real story. Can't make that into a movie.
The fact that this has a lower rotten tomatoes score than The Emoji Movie, Madame Web, Fant4stic, Josstice League, THE ********* ROOM, Tarot, Expend4bles, Rebel Moon parts 1 and 2, AND Morbius (although it's the movie of all time) is so insane you'd think you just woke up from a coma.
I wished expendables 4 was better especially how barney supposley came back from the dead and used the cheap trope of replacing the body to fake the death
The craziest part about seeing this movie for me was the fact that LITERALLY EVERYONE (except my friends and I) in my theater ate this movie up. They were laughing at every single little joke in the movie, they were even laughing at shit that wasn’t even jokes. I was more in awe watching the audience than the actual movie.
Something worth noting, all the actors had to film this ON Location, except Jack Black, he talks about this on an appearance of Conan O'Brien's podcast. He "jokes" about Jaime Lee Curtis being angry that they're all stuck in a desert filming and Jack was just sitting in a cozy recording studio back in L.A.
I love Cate Blanchett, she's one of my favorite actresses. She was one of the worst choices possible to play Lilith. Not only is she nearly three times the age of Lilith in the first game but her persona might as well be the polar opposite of how Lilith is in the games.
"There's no way 100 million dollars went into this movie somebody needs to investigate" Once again, Randy Pitchford is laughing all the way to the bank while we get served another pile of slop, courtesy of Randal.
They even showed a crew member in the official trailer at 00:10 with a black baseball cap and mask and that scene not only was in the trailer but the official release. It’s when they open a manhole and all the crew are looking in. You can see him holding it open where the hinge is. Jesus Christ.
The trailers for this movie kept popping up in the ads for me and I was like "There's no way this is good." They make it sound like the most cringe-inducing yet blandest, most generic action movie ever, especially the one where it says it's the most savage movie of the year or something like that 😂
Not that I disagree but Lilith is 27 in BL1. Borderlands 2 takes place 5 years later after the first one making her 32. But it's not like the movie follows the game's lore anyway.

As someone who never played the Borderlands games, this movie was an absolute disaster. Just pure generic slop, and very juvenile especially for a movie based of a M rated game. Edit: Ik this movie is a 12+, but why would you make a movie based of a M rated game? It’s like making a PG-13/12+ movie based of Doom.
Because the game was only rated M because of all the dismemberment and gore. That's not why most people play borderlands though, I think most of us come for the jokes and the unicorn that poops diamonds

I know so many devs who work on the game.. (we play D&D) they didn’t want the movie at all.. complained all the time that they never bothered to ask for help.. except for jack black he reached out often.
How hard is it to find 100+ religious/dedicated players, rounds them up and ask them what wants and needs they have of a movie adaptation? Like genuinely so frustrating how many of these are going to flop..
Because its not made for them, or for any average audience. The point for this slop isn't even to fill seats in a theater or sales. It's just to pay people in the industry and ruin one more thing. Why it's being ruined well there are a variety of reasons that would get this comment "shushed" lmao.

This movie makes me want to skin my own tattoo sleeve off my arm. My tattoo sleeve is 100% borderlands dedicated. I've got over 13000 hours into BL2. So here's some facts on the movie for everyone (SPOILERS): Arianna Greenblatt based her performance off Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn because she had never heard of the games or the character. They changed Tiny Tinas origins so, so badly. In the games, her parents are brutally murdered in front of her eyes turning her insane. I'm the movie, she's a lab grown daughter to Atlas and has the power to open the vault. Not the vault key, Tiny Tina. Jaime Lee Curtis made Tannis have Autism instead of being virtually insane from receiving ancient knowledge she wasn't supposed to after being in isolation for a long ass time. The actors who were in this movie playing characters from the games never bothered to contact their respective voice actor except for Benjamin Byron Davis and Jack Black. Benjamin is already a voice actor, voicing and doing all the mocap for Dutch from Red Dead 2 and Jack Black was already vouched for by David Eddings. Eli Roth was fired after a bad screen test, and they got Tim Miller for reshoots. However they only gave Tim Miller 2 weeks to redo the entire movie, like what the actual hell???? So that means whatever they shot for the movie was already trash before getting reshoots done. None of the cast knew what they were doing when they got offered their roles, and they've all stated as much in several interviews. No one tried out for any role except for Cate Blanchett, they were all offered/given. Meaning the casting director just really didn't give a fuck. When asked about what they did to stay true to the games, Kevin Hart stated that he had never heard of the games prior and after getting offered the role, went to RUclips to KINDA watch and understand the story. Saying he was bringing Roland's soldier attitude from the games... In the movie, they goto a XXX club with ZERO GRAPHIC IMAGERY WHATSOEVER. Lilith was made a siren at the end of the movie instead of her whole fucking Life. Randy was claiming that this movie is on par with the Fallout TV Show, the Super Mario Bros movie, and other well made video game adaptations. He wants to make a whole Borderlands cinematic universe. They even made a "help line" for people to text their opinions about the movie, which is not going to bode well at all... They completely failed to list Claptrap's puppet handler and one of Claptrap's CG artists in the credits of the film, which doesn't feel legal for some reason. David Eddings, Claptrap's original voice actor was heavily involved with the production of the movie until his mysterious departure in 2022. He even vouched for Jack Blacks performance as Claptrap, asking us to give him a shot. However, after getting removed from the movie, he basically refused to comment on it or just give your basic "Yeah it's borderlands and it exists" type of statement. Around the same time he was removed from the movie, Randy Pitchford subsequently left the gaming side of Gearbox to the become the CEO of the new Movie and TV side of Gearbox. A singular stunt coordinator said that Eli Roth filmed "a lot more" blood and gore than what was shown before the "suits" interfered. But the thing is, is that the "suits" and higher ups have no say on what a movie's rating is. It's all from audiences and critics doing screen tests. It's based on movie content, local standards for ratings, and audience ratings. So that means that whatever Roth and Miller filmed was already worth a PG-13 rating. The suits can interfere with production and what is filmed, but they can't actually affect ratings. So there was no chance of this movie becoming R rated and actually being decent. The reason why Gearbox didn't bring David Eddings in for the voice of Claptrap is because 1) they're anti union and 2) had creative differences with him (I.e. mysteriously removing him from the movie as he isn't credited anywhere). David Eddings is a part of the Voice Actors union. He was supposed to get paid for all his work in Borderlands 3, insisted on getting his paycheck, and all of sudden "they couldn't afford him anymore" without paying him a single cent. The exact same thing happened with Troy Baker and Rhys Strongfork from Tales From The Borderlands. Which is why neither of them returned for Borderlands 3 or are going to for future Borderlands project. Craig Mazin, writer of The Last of Us, fought so hard to have his name removed from the project entirely. He knew it was bad, he didn't wanna be tied to it. He wrote a screenplay back in 2020, some aspects of it were used in this film which is why he fought so hard to have his name removed. I've been heavily following the production of the movie since it first got announced
Lmao, I agree with everything you said, the first and immediate reason why I knew the movie was going to be bad when I heard Randy pitchfork was becoming the CEO. After his reaction to the reviews of borderlands 3 I have zero faith in him lol. It's wild that Jack black was the best thing about this film lol, I like Jack black but I heard he was claptrap of all characters I was like why not just have the actual voice actor, do the voice acting roles.
First we waited for borderlands 3 forever and when it finally comes out its completely ruined. And now they spit us fans in the face by making fun of the entire franchise with THIS? Im so pissed off.
I went with my friends to watch this movie on the release day, and after the movie my card declined when trying to get dinner. I was somehow less distraught by the fact that i was now broke, but more that i used the last money in my bank account to watch this movie.
Oh I figured *for sure* this story was going the direction of "So my bank called me about a fraudulent charge. Turns out they saw a ticket for Borderlands in the billing statement and immediately flagged my card as stolen" 😂
Ouch... that's so shitty I literally felt your pain for a solid minute... I'm sorry borthor... It's like hearing a friend talk about blowing 20 grand in Vegas.. I'm here if you need anything...
14:37 "Everything that happens in this movie could be removed and there would be no consequence" That's what I've been saying for years about the first Star Wars prequel _The Phantom Menace!_ If you think about the it, _you could cut the entire movie_ and replace it with a 5 minute piece at the start of _Attack of the Clones_ where someone tells the Jedi Council that they've found a young boy strong in the Force. And literally nothing would change!! - Cliché 10 year old Anakin in TPM has zero connection to young adult Anakin in the following movie. None. Making "Lil Anakin" a podracing pilot champion just because Obi-Wan Kenobi had told Luke in the original trilogy that Luke's father had been an ace pilot is so stupid. Pilots don't need to start training in elementary school. And since the scriptwriters entirely skipped Anakin's Jedi training, the line "He's too old to be trained" means _nothing,_ has no consequences, and we never get to see how that insanely upbeat slaveboy Anakin turned into a surely narcissistic whiny 20-year-old who acted like a teenager. Either skip the training (as they did), then the first movie is superfluous... or here's an idea: They should have used most of the first movie to show lil Anakin's training! - Qui-Gon Jin was superfluous. Give the whole "we found out how to ascend as Jedi" bit to Yoda. Or better yet: _Just write it that Jedi have known how to ascend to become a Force ghost for millenia!!_ Geez. - Qui-Gon Jin and Obi-Wan meeting Darth Maul. And then Darth Maul dies. (At least until his bad-ass return in the animated Clone Wars show, but that's a different topic.) Ultimately, Darth Maul was only in TPM so that the Jedi could meet a Sith apprentice and tell the Council... only for the Jedi Council to go, "Impossible! The Sith are extinct!" The story could have alerted the Jedi to the resurgence of the Sith in countless other ways. Heck, have some Jedi roll a natural 20 against Palpatine's MindBlank and see Palpatine for what he truly is, only for Palpatine to attack him mentally and drive him insane and to suicide. Or replace the illogical "assassins try to kill Padme" plot with "assassins murdered Master Exposition!" Add in a little murder mystery for Anakinand Padme to solve while Obi-Wan finds the clone army.
Really should have been an ultra violent animated film. This looks like a late to the party Guardians of the Galaxy vibe which doesn’t honor the tone of the franchise.
I really am wondering what is going on with studios and most big budget movies now a days. Movies that are being made for a quarter of the price are the ones that people want to see. They have dedicated people behind their projects that the audience picks up on & wants to support. People are dumb but not dumb enough to be tricked as many times into seeing BIG BUGDET IPs that are stripped of their original appeal & magic. Expensive movies use to mean something back in the day. Now Hollywood has watered down as much as anything else it beats into the ground when ONE movie breaks through the mainstream. Everyone follows nobody leads...except for a few directors/actors here & there that have the reputation or establishment. rant done lol

The Borderlands movie being more gorey would not make it better

When Me And My Mom Saw It (On $8 Movie Day) There Was Only 1 Other Person In The Movie With Us.

- hire a director with a dubious resume
- cast a lot of A-list actors that demand Scrooge McDuck levels of cash
- be sure all of these actors are well over 50, so they'll be more believable doing stunts at retirement age
- totally ignore your source material, even mock it if you dare.
- write in the most cringe and ridiculous humor AI can come up with
- let chatGPT write everything else since you're there
- underpay and overwork your FX artists and proceed to make your movie look like shit

Craig Mazin (The Last of Us, Chernobyl) wrote the original script.

We all know the movies it terrible.
Never once made it seem like you said the movie was good.

Dont know if this was posted, Straight from IMDB
"The movie was shot in the summer of 2021 and Eli Roth's first director's cut was reportedly finished in early 2022.
If the eli Roth cut ever sees the light of day, I will watch the fuck out of that
So, the original movie was supposed to be good, and it was thrown out because it was "too violent"?!
Dude they cucked Eli Roth? They deserved for this movie to bomb.
So they wanted to reap parents of their money...classic greedy behavior

That scene with the flashing lights in the tunnel literally gave me a headache. I remember wondering how it turned out for any epileptic that saw the film, as there didn’t seem to be any warning beforehand

Borderlands 1 was very serious and dark....
So the reviews that are trashing it so hard on rotten tomatoes isn't even considering the level of movies that have previously been reviewed, even recently, like monster hunter. It's not a great movie, but it's not a bad movie.

Naaah, it only took 40 years before they made a 2nd Mario Bros movie!
let's be honest you can tell it's cash grab when jack black is hired just because he's fan favourite, and there isn't any substance to the story

This movie makes me want to skin my own tattoo sleeve off my arm. My tattoo sleeve is 100% borderlands dedicated. I've got over 13000 hours into BL2. So here's some facts on the movie for everyone (SPOILERS):
Arianna Greenblatt based her performance off Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn because she had never heard of the games or the character.
Pitchford not being involved in the games is an absolute win. The man's greed is on par with Bobby Cotick
We thank you for your dedication to the movie's production.
And sincerely send you our condolences for this travesty.
1,300 hours or 13,000 hours 😨, either way thats gotta blow to have that much dedication and for this to flop so hard
thank you for your service!
First we waited for borderlands 3 forever and when it finally comes out its completely ruined. And now they spit us fans in the face by making fun of the entire franchise with THIS? Im so pissed off.
BL4 needs to have a completely new writing team after 3. The gameplay, art, music, sound design, etc. was super solid, but the writing was atrocious
3 has the best gameplay in the entire series wtf are you on about
@tyrone687 The gameplay is good yes, but the writing was so cringe.
@tyrone687 story is beyond trash though. Bl2 had fantastic gameplay and a phenomenal story
We gotta accept our beloved franchise is pretty much dead. There hasn't been a good bl media since tales.
The Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy movie that SpongeBob SquarePants made in that one episode was a far better put together project than this movie.
I went with my friends to watch this movie on the release day, and after the movie my card declined when trying to get dinner. I was somehow less distraught by the fact that i was now broke, but more that i used the last money in my bank account to watch this movie.
GET OUT@Joseph_14144
Oh I figured *for sure* this story was going the direction of "So my bank called me about a fraudulent charge. Turns out they saw a ticket for Borderlands in the billing statement and immediately flagged my card as stolen" 😂
Ouch... that's so shitty I literally felt your pain for a solid minute... I'm sorry borthor... It's like hearing a friend talk about blowing 20 grand in Vegas.. I'm here if you need anything...
Hey I'll be praying for you brother 🙏✝️
I forgot that they were even making a Borderlands movie, there was little to no marketing
... EILRAHC NAHT RETTEB YAW SI AGFY EILRAHC NAHT TNETNOC RETTEB EKAM I ?KSA I DID
Yea only heard of it in the theatre as a trailer
.... EILRAHC NAHT RETTEB YAW SI AGFY EILRAHC NAHT TNETNOC RETTEB EKAM I ?KSA I DID
I stopped caring when I saw the stoic tall buff serious leader (Roland) was fucking Kevin Hart and Lilith was made to look ultra old.
And it was a good choice to not market it
Went to the movie theater with my brother and my girlfriend afraid that there was not gonna be any seat, turns out every seat was open😭
I need to reserve seats at my theater seeing release night have 5 seats booked made me look up the score being like 4 on imbd
14:37 "Everything that happens in this movie could be removed and there would be no consequence"
That's what I've been saying for years about the first Star Wars prequel _The Phantom Menace!_ If you think about the it, _you could cut the entire movie_ and replace it with a 5 minute piece at the start of _Attack of the Clones_ where someone tells the Jedi Council that they've found a young boy strong in the Force.
The Sith are extinct!"
The story could have alerted the Jedi to the resurgence of the Sith in countless other ways.
That's objectively wrong though. Qui-gon's existence and what he did in TPM has a huge impact on Obi-wan, Anakin, Dooku, and Yoda in Episodes 2 and 3
2:01 Makes sense since Jack Black never set foot on set for this dumpster fire as all his lines were recorded in a studio.
He also is a fan of the game so that’s probably why he actually tried to play his role the right way
Really should have been an ultra violent animated film. This looks like a late to the party Guardians of the Galaxy vibe which doesn’t honor the tone of the franchise.
The moment I saw Kevin Hart as Roland I knew this movie was gonna be trash
..... EILRAHC NAHT RETTEB YAW SI AGFY EILRAHC NAHT TNETNOC RETTEB EKAM I ?KSA I DID
..... EILRAHC NAHT RETTEB YAW SI AGFY EILRAHC NAHT TNETNOC RETTEB EKAM I ?KSA I DID
Ah yes, Roland. The 6'2", quiet, stoic giant... Played by _Kevin Hart_ of all people.
Yeah too bad the movie didn't have a jungle in it, other wise they could've cast the rock 😂
@@youngdolo8Was Roland black?
YOU RIGHT MAN
How this movie stripped out original appeal and magic of borderlands ?
