It was 1991 or 92 I believe... I was in Beckley WV watching Dupont Play Beckley (High School BBall) This skinny kid (Jason Williams) throws a pass off the back board... then this tall lanky player comes from nowhere catches, double clutches, dunks it 2 handed... memphis didn't give up on him, and he wasn't WELL past in prime in the miami days. He was one of the top point guards in the league at the time that's why that deal was so huge. Antoine Walker wasn't WELL past his prime either, that was a super team thatthey esembled. The only players well past their primes were GP and ZO.

Ok you can question J Will's commitment to winning early in his career, you can question his shot selection, you can question his defense but gawd damn you can not question his skills! Jason Williams was one of the more gifted basketball players skills wise i have ever seen. So for this guy to say J-Will didn't have the skills just blows my mind!
Nah...... I believe kuroko more likely towards to john stockton. Cause he also a great stealer. Oh yeah, john stockton also usually get SHADOW by karl malone. And john stockton didnt like too much attentiom from media.
Sports is entertainment. A guy who makes memorable and flashy plays is going to be remembered a long, long time after they retire over a more solid but less flashy player. White Chocolate never played defense and had maybe one or two WHOA moments a game but those WHOA moments are what you remember. I don't think he is underrated or overrated. His numbers accurately reflect his impact on the court. I thank him as a lifelong fan for making those incredible passes and plays that we still remember.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. That's jr smith effect thing, really open my eyes. It's like he was the opposite of khris middleton and tim duncan. Never flashy but thats make them underrated. Good video 👍
Half of that 04 draft suffered from that effect. Jr Smith, josh smith, Emeka Okafor, iggy, al Jefferson, Devin harris, Ben Gordon, Anderson varejo, Shaun Livingston. Lol
The white boys I went to school would always talk about J. Will and what he had done the night before. “White Chocolate” was good but his highlight tape makes it seem like he was better, just like Andy said.
In my opinion, a massive underestimated view of the career of JWill. And some lies in it too, he never said basketball was secondary for him. If something you cannot criticise of Jason is his love and passion for the game.
“His impact did not lead to many wins” When Jason williams came to the Kings his rookie season they made the playoffs. The kings had been terrible. When Jason Williams came to the Grizzlies they made the playoffs within his first three years. The Grizzlies has been terrible forever.
There are many low key denigrating points against JWill of this video that are pretty wrong in regards to Jason Williams career and a slanted negative view of his impact for his total career. Jason Williams was very unorthodox, but he contributed quite a bit to the Kings being on the map with Webber and crew and contributed to getting the Heat their first championship as the point guard. This whole video talks as if this guy isn't even worth your time to talk about. Playing in the NBA is not a joke, and Jason Williams was said to be Shaq's (arguably the best big man) favorite player to play with.
I didn't get hip to J-will until he played for the Heat, I've never been aware of the Pete Maravich comparisons, but now having heard that I can totally understand it. I'm going to be 40 this August, so I grew up in watching Jordan in his prime and when Miami won the title in 2006 it was like Phil Jackson, Michael Jordan and John paxson all has new names: Pat Riley, Dwyane Wade and Jason Williams.
Other notable #7 Picks - Steph Curry, Kevin Johnson, Richard Hamilton, Vinnie Johnson, Damon Stoudemire, Eric Gordon, Jason Williams, Luol Deng, Luc Longley, Roy Tarpley, Mike Gminski, Nene and Hinrich.
I wouldn't say Grizzlies "gave up" on him. Also you forgot about Shaquille O'Neal going to Miamis front office and asking them to bring JWill to the team. Shaqs comments about him are pretty cool to hear.

What draft pick has produced more stars? Many may think is the number 1 pick but we see many number 1 pick that don’t become star. Their has to be a pick that has produce the best players in the NBA.
I’d say the #3 pick
Jason "White Chocolate" Williams is extremely underrated & forgotten by today's fans.
Not underrated, he wasnt an all star but was eye catching.
Wtf are you talking about. Thery forgot because he's not all star or boarder line all star. 0 all nba. Actually he's an average player and playmaker. Look at his stats. 6 apg? And u look at him the same level like kidd, nash, marbury, paul in his era.
No, he's *severely overrated* if anything because all the nba shows these days are his highlights.
@@norellmarksalaan9587 He literally said hed rather get more assists than points even his teammates said that they liked him a lot because they would get easy buckets cause of him and yes i am severely late replaying to this comment from 2 years ago which you will probably not see
@@uhckingking6968 check his assist per game bro compare it to jason kidd, payton and Nash.
The early 2000s was all about what "highlight players" where doing during the games. Guys like vince carter, tmac, steve francis, jwill, cwebb or kobe made all those signature moves that change the way that nba's game was played and we all remembered to the point that all of us tried to emulated them off the court and also inspired the best NBA PG'snowadays. Thats where jwill leaves his mark in the nba regarless of his 3pt % or any other stats
I feel like he was the rondo of the early 2000s
The wish version
@@badunderwear6662 you mean Rondo is the Wish version, right?
guillemdc nah he means j-will, rondo had a way better prime and was a way better defender and rebounder as well, and offensively they were both inefficient pass first point guards, but rondo was still a better passer than j will
WMS jake nah J will was by far the better passer
@@CodeineAbdulJabbar he may were the better passer, but Rondo was by far the player with higher IQ on the court. Decision making plays a big factor regarding playmaking ability
Idgaf, J-Will is 1 of my top 5 favorite players ever. He & A.I. were my two favorite players when I started watching basketball
Turns out that was (Randy Moss)... I had not a clue he played football and thought for sure he would end up in the NBA! ... Very Nice Memory one I wont soon forget, especially now!
memphis didn't give up on him, and he wasn't WELL past in prime in the miami days. He was one of the top point guards in the league at the time that's why that deal was so huge. Antoine Walker wasn't WELL past his prime either, that was a super team thatthey esembled. The only players well past their primes were GP and ZO.
Top pg in that time? Are u joking? He's not boarder line all star. Actually he's a average staring point guard and u guys See's him as an all star or same level of nash or kidd in that era
He was definitely not did you must've not watch bball
@@lavonhathcock6048 You clearly don't listen to legends that played with j will
Do a "how good was Detlef Schrempf"
lol
Finally you've made a video about J.Will, I've been waiting for this for long time
Ok you can question J Will's commitment to winning early in his career, you can question his shot selection, you can question his defense but gawd damn you can not question his skills! Jason Williams was one of the more gifted basketball players skills wise i have ever seen. So for this guy to say J-Will didn't have the skills just blows my mind!
He seems like a family man and a decent guy, so I’m glad he got paid.
So this is where they got Kuroko? They copied Jayson Williams
Nah...... I believe kuroko more likely towards to john stockton. Cause he also a great stealer. Oh yeah, john stockton also usually get SHADOW by karl malone. And john stockton didnt like too much attentiom from media.
@@edwardtimothy3581 kuroko is unique he most likely is a rajon rondo or a manu gino.
well the elbow pass by Akashi was taken from Jason Williams. He did it on All Star game.
A good ass anime
Sports is entertainment. A guy who makes memorable and flashy plays is going to be remembered a long, long time after they retire over a more solid but less flashy player. White Chocolate never played defense and had maybe one or two WHOA moments a game but those WHOA moments are what you remember. I don't think he is underrated or overrated. His numbers accurately reflect his impact on the court. I thank him as a lifelong fan for making those incredible passes and plays that we still remember.
I have been waiting ffc or this straight fire Andy Hoops
You hit the nail on the head.
Lol
I actually loved to see White Chocolate play. I am also happy that he got a ring & that is something that many great players cannot say ✌🏾👊🏾
This is a great video. I’ve been wanting this.
Andy Hoops main music is what I come for every video.
People forget that he was the starting PG on the 06 Miami Heat championship team, and with the second unit at PG they either ran GP or DWade.
My mom actually was in college with Jason Williams when they were at Marshall
How good was Andy Hoops
i watched him in an interview, he seemed like a humble, measured person, and its hard to picture him shouting racial slurs to asian amaricans
Ummm... what's the point of this comment
Can you do how good was Jameer Nelson, Hedo Turkoglu, or Rashard Lewis, I want to know more about those magic teams. Thanks.
Especially Rashard Lewis he got paid for some reason
Good one Andy the JR Smith effect 😂😂😂👍.
The white boys I went to school would always talk about J. Will and what he had done the night before. “White Chocolate” was good but his highlight tape makes it seem like he was better, just like Andy said.
he had the best ast turnover ratio in the nba while he played for memphis
i know you see the kirilenko comments andy, lol make it happen
he made it happen 😎
Love the video. You should do Jason Richardson next.
In my opinion, a massive underestimated view of the career of JWill. And some lies in it too, he never said basketball was secondary for him. If something you cannot criticise of Jason is his love and passion for the game.
I agree!
jason williams and jason kidd are really underrated
He’s STILL a superb shot. He comes from a great family too.
can you make how good was mike bibby?
Yes trash
Notice how in the video it says Mike Bibby way better than Jason Williams yet no one knows who Mike Bibby hardly is...
It’s crazy I never thought about this but Jason Williams is a man
Stop Being So Thirsty wtf
“His impact did not lead to many wins”
When Jason williams came to the Kings his rookie season they made the playoffs. The kings had been terrible. When Jason Williams came to the Grizzlies they made the playoffs within his first three years. The Grizzlies has been terrible forever.
Yeah he's wrong on so many levels, watching this video it felt like there was something personal there imo
Goat nba youtuber
There are many low key denigrating points against JWill of this video that are pretty wrong in regards to Jason Williams career and a slanted negative view of his impact for his total career. Jason Williams was very unorthodox, but he contributed quite a bit to the Kings being on the map with Webber and crew and contributed to getting the Heat their first championship as the point guard. This whole video talks as if this guy isn't even worth your time to talk about. Playing in the NBA is not a joke, and Jason Williams was said to be Shaq's (arguably the best big man) favorite player to play with.
loved him but cant believe grizz traded bibby for him
I didn't get hip to J-will until he played for the Heat, I've never been aware of the Pete Maravich comparisons, but now having heard that I can totally understand it. I'm going to be 40 this August, so I grew up in watching Jordan in his prime and when Miami won the title in 2006 it was like Phil Jackson, Michael Jordan and John paxson all has new names: Pat Riley, Dwyane Wade and Jason Williams.
When the intro starts with those 90s trumpets.
He is the one of entertainer of nba... 😁
I like his ball handling. It is very fun to watch
Great video. You were absolutely correct and on point about "white chocolate"
Other notable #7 Picks - Steph Curry, Kevin Johnson, Richard Hamilton, Vinnie Johnson, Damon Stoudemire, Eric Gordon, Jason Williams, Luol Deng, Luc Longley, Roy Tarpley, Mike Gminski, Nene and Hinrich.
I Love J will, I think I played with him at the local park the other day too. Great guy!
Yeah I played with obama and Michael Jordan at the park as well oh and I forgot to mention lebron was there watching
that elbow pass is legendary
Wonder why it wasn't in the video... smh
I would like to see a Detlef Schrempf video. While he's not really a household name, he was integral to those Sonic teams of the 90's.
You should do one of these for Joe Johnson, Deron Williams and Chris Bosh
I wouldn't say Grizzlies "gave up" on him. Also you forgot about Shaquille O'Neal going to Miamis front office and asking them to bring JWill to the team. Shaqs comments about him are pretty cool to hear.
Perfect timing for this video.
I'd prefer Jay Williams over those other guards mentioned anytime!
Yeah no kidding. This video is way off.
Who has the clip of Jason Williams flipping out on the reporter, while Matt Barnes was being interviewed? (while they were both on the Magic)
