Jason Williams: The Man Known as “White Chocolate” was Touted as THE NEXT PETE MARAVICH | FPP

- He possessed rare creativity on the court, the same creativity that guys like Magic Johnson or the player he was often compared to, Pete Maravich possessed. He was a star at DuPont High School where he partnered with a future hall of famer in another sport as he and Randy Moss dominated West Virginia state basketball. His college career was not your usual as he rescinded a commitment then played a year at Marshall before following his coach Billy Donovan and playing one year for the Florida Gators. But this year was cut short due to Marijuana offences. But Williams would still find himself picked early in the 1999 NBA draft and joining a Sacramento Kings team featuring Chris Webber, Vlade Divac and Peja Stojakovic. Williams quickly became one of the most popular players in the league with his incredible dribbling and flashy passes. The Kings were getting better, but for as fun as Williams was, his play resulted in a lot of empty possessions, so he would shipped to the Memphis Grizzlies for Mike Bibby. In Memphis he would team with Pau Gasol, Mike Miller and Shane Battier, but the most important pairing came during his second season with the Grizzlies, when Hubie Brown was hired who held Williams accountable for his reckless play which resulted in Williams reeling it in and becoming a more traditional floor general, but he retained his flair when he could and took it to Miami, where he joined forces with Shaquille O’Neal and Dwyane Wade and helped the Heat win the 2006 NBA Championship. This would be the highlight of his career, as the Heat would implode and he would start to break down, he would have one more great year as a backup in Orlando, but finished his career after 12 years. He wasn’t the best point guard by any means, but he was one of the most exciting and entertaining and showed growth and maturity throughout his time in the league and Jason “White Chocolate” Willliams’ impact can never be forgotten.

I’m from wv, Jason is a legend here. I remember playing pick up with him and moss. The little school DuPont really put out some pros. From that era they had a mlb and another nfl player.
One of the most exciting - and frustrating, players I've ever watched
Agree. He would shoot a 3 with like 20 seconds to go on the 24 shot clock all the time and shoot like 3-14 with 8 turnovers but then would make a ESPN highlight reel pass later in the game.
Honestly one of my favourite players. So entertaining
06 Miami Heat 🔥🔥 had legends on that squad
I had to comment on this one cause I truly enjoy watching this man, especially in that short Kings run he had. White Chocolate is indeed a great mention!!
The people need a JAMAL CRAWFORD vid🔥
10:30 is the most clean cut hd style of an old basketball footage I have ever seen. That shit is fucking beautiful. And lastly Iverson,Baron Davis, And White chocolate were my favorite players to watch from the 2000's.
Jason Williams aka White Chocolate was ahead of his time when he played at Florida and the NBA. We don’t give him enough credit for his court vision and his passing skills and ability and a flashy point guard. He played with the likes of Shaq and D-Wade with the Heat.
Keep up the great work 👍😁. This is a wonderful channel 👏👏👏
J-Will was ahead of his time. Entertaining on all fronts and would still pack out arenas if he played in the modern day.
No. He was a throwback type of Player. Without a good Jumper. How can this be ahead of his time?
Its kinda surprising that Jason Williams went and played with Randy Moss in the same high school...and went to same college together before he went to Florida
Imagine if Moss was a basketball player, though
moss played basketball with J will in high school and J will played football with him... it's well documented
Salute to Jason Williams was def ahead of his time entertaining and A solid Basketball Player. Turnovers and missed shots are part of basketball, Coaches did not want to give him the keys and just enjoy the ride. ( Hating they want the so called play the right way,) Fast Forward and players now play with a fast pace throwing up 3 point shots / shots early in the shot clock. ( Go Figure) I was happy to see him get a ring with the Heat!!!!
I would like to see you narrate a series of videos about Forgotten Team Profiles. You could talk about the 1995 Houston Rockets team, the lowest-seeded team to win a title. I'd watch every single one!
not forgotten as long as I live - thanks
JW was a very good rookie... but him being "arguably the most popular rookie" is a gross overstatement.
JW was popular but VC was a flat out phenomenon.
They were neck and neck in popularity most def that first season. He was top 3 in jewelry sells. He was almost voted as a starter in the All Star game his 2nd year. He was 3rd in voting.
His cannabis offences left a cloud over his head 😂
Quite literally 😂
fantastic player fun to watch
Miami years were his best work. He became polished and making the correct play at the expense of flash.
A highlight machine but just steady and solid as an overall player throughout his career.
The way people talk about him, you’d think he was a top 10 point guard during his era until you look at his stats.
I felt the opposite. I thought the guy disappeared after he left Sacramento.
@@YpsitheFlintsider that’s what I mean. He was an erratic starter in his prime, solid veteran backup in his late career
A highlight machine but just an okay to solid player at best
STILL rock my 55 jersey to this day!
Do Mike Miller next one of my favorite players growing up that never got his flowers I felt.
Even though he seems to have forgotten where he came from, we are still proud of white chocolate.
Also, West Virginia and Virginia are two different states. Crazy that people still don’t know this
Lol what u mean he forgot where he from?
Literally put him on the spurs in my 2k17 my Gm so I can see the hype but one of my unsung goats
Thank you 🙂
One of the most selfless players , the time where efficiency was more important than a crazy stat lines getting the ball to the man in position to score ,he must’ve been a joy to play with .
Lmao what!? Jason Williams was known for chucking I'll advised 3's and turning the ball over trying to be too flashy.
one of my fav players when he was on the Kings
Awesome PG Mr Williams
Tim Thomas? Cat Mobley, here's one for you! Bj Armstrong
I'd love to see a video on Ron harper as well as Rick fox
Nice video!!! Could you do Kenyon Martin, Richard Jefferson or Lamar Odom please!!!
It’s West Virginia, not Virginia homie!! Love ya vids 😎😎
Very entertaining watching as a kid
Can we get a Pau Gasol video
Yeah what he said
Why? He's not forgotten about.
@charlesreed1016 maybe he's not but I'd like to learn more about him from our man that did this video.
This is better 😂
@@charlesreed1016not nearly as talked about as he should be avg at least 17&8 for over a decade straight starting at 21 easily a top 10 pf of all time
I know i have said this before but i love this background music!!!!
Sacramento had a mini dream team hus eookie year. Obviously it didnt work out but no nba roster had more name power
I loved his game
Need an Ak-47 video super underrated
He was a solid pro I wish the coaches gave him the keys to run Free.
Jason Williams was really fast and quick
I wish he made it to Miami earlier and playec with dwade longer
#TogetherEvery1AchievesMore TEAM‼️
Awesome video you should do Grant hill
Horace grant
Any of the fab 5
Robert horry
You should do Chris "Birdman" Anderson I think it would do amazing
Yeah, he was the second coming of Maravich, I loved his game.
I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American and male. I HATED how Jason Williams KILLED the Blazers and Sonics! But, haha, is he FORGOTTEN? Everybody from that era remembers Jason Williams, whether we loved or hated his style of play! Me being 5'10", made him relatable.
One of my dad's favorites. Him and AI.
Randy Moss G.O.A.T
How about George Mccloud, Dino Radja, Blue Edwards, Doug West, Michael Williams, Ledell Eackles, or John Hot plate Williams.
Damn Pierce shot 41% from 3 his rookie year.
I was a huge fan of white chocolate in more ways than one,1st he was just entertaining asf to watch cause you never knew what he was gonna do next & neither did his teammates which is the other reason I was a fan cause I’m a laker fan & with him on the kings they would never be able to beat shaq & Kobe cause he just too reckless lol I was mad they traded him for Bibby cause I knew they def got way better but lakers still managed to beat them somehow even though kings was the better team (the refs didn’t help at all!!)
Always loved White Chocolate
My Dad and some friends ran into Jason Williams and his group one time while playing golf. He said Williams was an arrogant and ill-mannered punk.
I love J Will but it's some what true
David Stern looked pissed
No one has forgotten about J Will.
Grizzlys signed James Posey. The very man who disrupted the infamous elbow pass 😐
J-dubb 🥶 just can’t leave the ganja alone but won a championship with Miami
Hol up when was he at Orlando? Between what teams?
His last stop.
His last team he played for guess you wasn't watching the game during 2009-2010.
@1roundleft821 good guess brother. Thankfully I guess you were. Thanks foe the info
@@user-isntavailable yeah bro you didn't miss much! That season wasn't all that too entertaining, but Kobe got another ring. Now had we got Lebron vs Kobe that season we'd have likely had the most talked about Finals ever.
Make an episode about Michael Adams
I don't remember too many Pistol Pete comparisons, J Will was flashy but he wasn't anywhere near the phenomenon that was Pete Marovich
"His Marijuana offenses left a cloud lingering over his head"
Did you mean to do that? If not incredible, but I'm thinking that was on purpose.
WE NEED A JACK SIKMA VIDEO
Day 3 of asking Walt Frazier
when you telegraph that you will stop a chase when they are reckless, you just tell them to be reckless.........
He played in West Virginia, not Virginia. 2 different states bro! Get it right!
Beasy Bro 🏀😱
Rex Chapman please
I think Jason Williams has the best Top 10 plays, even over Jordan or Lebron. Fight me about it
Which plays are you talking about?
@@1roundleft821 the video called Top 10 Career Plays by NBA
He and Randy moss went to the same high school
West Virginia, not Virginia!
Can we get Larry Hughes ?
Hes from West Virginia
WEST VIRGINIA….. not Virginia
He was good, but a lot of people today want to overrate him imo.
Interesting how Hubie Brown straightened Jason Williams out.
Old school coach's loved his IQ.
A special, exciting, but average PG due to poor shooting efficiency and turnovers 🤷♀️
Can we get a
Shareef abdur Rahim
Can we get delonte west
Randy Moss was number 40 right as I right that he said it
Can we get a Jalen Rose video?
Elton Brand plz
Did both their careers end with a vehicular accidents....

14:15 You MUST know this about me: I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American and male. I think it is totally wrong to say anti-Asian slurs! I also think it's wrong to say bad things about Blacks, Latinos, Arabs, Native Americans, women, and homosexuals. BUT, I think it's TOTALLY FINE to say bad things about White people, especially White American males, especially strong rich White American males! That's because of all of the past injustices done to minorities by the White man.
You're insane.
white chocolate, who is black chococlate then?
Rest of the league
N!ce
Ehm... No
Bro West Virginia is not in Virginia! Takes away the legitimacy of your video when you get his home state wrong.
Awsome highlights but was never an all star player. Never a top 10 pg never lead a team to contention. Great highlights, terrible shot selection and terrible defense
Still an NBA Champion.. something few ever get to taste.
He's a white version of Rafer Alston. Only JW a Over hype white player
Cope
Not only JWill was "White Chocolate" he was "The Chocolate". His basketball flair and creativity was off the charts.
@@theghostofbabanovac7069 agreed. Jw was 100x better than a Rafer
@@RomanReyes-n6s100x better? Lmao exaggeration, much?
kings big mistake 2001 was trade him for bibby
That definitely wasn't a mistake. Bibby made them a contender and they were very close to winning a title what the hell are you talking about?
@@1roundleft821 for me Jason w is better
The Kings were legit champions the very next year with Mike Bibby at point and made it a game 7 in the WCF. If not for a crooked referee, Kings would have been NBA champions in 2002. No Kings fans think it was a mistake and they all think it was an upgrade.
@@richardyoon4209 yes but why did not be champion next year
@@master-kq3nw cause Chris Webber injured his knee against Dallas in the 2003 playoffs
