Mimi I assume part of that is that they want the contestants to be attractive *to the audience/viewers* . Because attractive people sell, as seen on other dating shows. They'd be able to get viewers who otherwise wouldn't watch if they weren't attractive. Thereby perpetuating the supposed problem the show is about.
Jessica actually got a really bad edit. She wanted to leave the show but the producers pressured her to stay with Mark, who HAD A GIRLFRIEND IRL THE ENTIRE TIME!!!!!!! Mark was always leaving their apartment to go be with his actual girlfriend. He and Jessica had an off-camera deal that they would stick it out for the show and then both say no at the altar, but Mark threw Jessica under the bus by saying yes. Then after the show ended, Mark dated LC and she found out from twitter that he was cheating on her and had gotten the other woman pregnant. Mark was secretly the villain all along!

True, but just because you can recognize that a person is conventionally and aestethically attractive, that doesn't mean that they're attractive to you. Physical attraction is a normal part of any human relationship (unless sight impaired) Not just fixed body parts, but also mannerisms, body language, etc. It's how we decide who is dangerous, who we can trust, etc. In romantic relationships, in friendships, in everything. Which is why this show makes no sense lmao

- Mark was cheating on Jessica during their time in the apartments before the weddings, which she didn't know about until later. (After the show, he dated LC and cheated on her - both she and the other woman got covid, allegedly from him). Jessica asked to leave the show early, but the producers wouldn't let her. She tried to break up with him multiple times on-screen, and he kept telling her that she was making up that there were problems, that if she just tried harder then she'd be attracted to him and in love with him.
- Mark and Jessica agreed to say no at the altar before the wedding - Mark said yes, and you can see Jessica's frustration with him. Plus, he crossed, ignored or didn't bother to check her boundaries multiple times. Jessica did some really shitty things on the show - let's not pretend Mark is better. He's worse.
- Barnett is the source of the drama - he led Amber, LC, and Jessica on for as long as he could. He DID imply that he wanted to propose to Jessica. It's reasonable that, in her desperation for love and approval, she didn't analyze the exact words he used. His intent was clear - to tell her he wanted to marry her, without mentioning that he also wanted to marry 2 other women.
Barnett wasn't the source of any drama after he literally rejected Jessica and LC for Amber. Still trying to get with him after that point makes no sense since he very clearly stated that he was done leading them on and made a choice.

I genuinely don’t understand how the people in charge of editing reality shows to, ironically, completely skew reality sleep at night. Mark was a total creep but the show tries its absolute best to paint him as a victim.
Jessica did bad shit, of course, but for the show to just paint the toxicity as one-sided and literally preventing her from leaving and/or breaking up with Mark so she can finally end things is just so fucking wild.
My philosophy that I constantly go back to with these things is
1. I do not know these people and never will
2. It's reality tv literally anything could be real or fake
I'm perfectly comfortable with viewing it for entertainment and taking absolutely zero real world conclusions about these people from it.
The real consequence is that these are in fact real people out there and people's conclusions from the show can come back to them irl, but i'm doing nothing more than watching and leaving a comment like this so it has nothing to do with me lmao

What annoys me is that the phrase "love is blind" doesn't mean that you don't care if your partner is beautiful or ugly, but rather that when you're in love, you're blind to the faults of your partner. Smh

You can infer that if you have "blind love" and if your definition is true, someone would indeed not care whether their partner is ugly or beautiful, as they believe they are beautiful no matter what as they are blind to their faults. Thus, to simple it down, the first definition is technically true.
op is correct, "love is blind" does not refer to physical appearance, quite the contrary. They use it as a wordplay referring to appearance. In reality though appearance plays variable roles in attraction, depending on like a billion factors and generally, appearance will be significant. They're not making a point by picking a bunch of conventionally attractive _and_ otherwise boring and/or annoying people and giving them 10 fricking days to "know each other" (if we were to assume it's not all scripted or intentionally dramatised). Terrible show all over.
What bugs me is that they aren't just blind they are completely apart. I can understand wanting to see if appearance is really important but what about the 3 other senses. I would never get engaged to someone I hadn't at least smelt and kissed

- Barnett sold his house to pay off Amber's student loan and they now live in a shitty apartment with a roommate and are broke. This causes tension because Amber wants kids and Barnett wants to be able to buy another house first. Also Amber forbids him to have any contact with Jessica whatsoever.
- Jessica has a new boyfriend, seems sober and generally a pretty decent person after all. She even got over Barnett.
- Mark turned out to be a douche, because he had a thing with LC after the show without telling her about his pregnant girlfriend.
- Cameron and Lauren are still happily married and thinking about kids.
- Damon and Giannina still have an on/off relationship where Giannina is desperately waiting for another proposal while Damon is hitting it off with Francesca from Too Hot To Handle.
It was a wild ride these new episodes, I hope Jarvis covers them

"Love is blind" doesnt even have to do with not seeing; it's an idiom that means "When you are in love, you are blind to what the person you love is actually like". This show's premise is so stupid.

No...a pun is when you use a word in place of another because they sound similar for comedic effect. No one used a pun in this instance. An idiom is an old figurative saying whose original meaning has been nearly forgotten (definitely in the case of the people who made this show).

Sorry to say this, but for better or worse, furbaby is already a thing.
I think this "experiment" makes it less likely that you'd fall in love with someone you wouldn't typically consider physically attractive. Because if you meet a person, you don't find them physically attractive, and then you fall in love with their personality, you at the same time start to find their physical appearance beautiful. It's not like people who are with "ugly" people "look past" their appearance. No - they think they're beautiful, because they love them. But if you get to know someone like this, you don't get that chance for your brain to be like "hang on. that nose might be crooked, but it's really cute." or "wait a minute. i thought your smile was a bit off, but now it's my favourite thing about your face."
That's one of the coolest things about humanity and human relationships, in my opinion. How we all (assuming we have our sight, but this can happen with voices, etc, too, but that's not as relevant to this show) can find someone unattractive, or average, but then we get to know them, and little by little, we're like "Oh my god, you're the most attractive person I've ever met wtf."

That’s why when I was dating I tried to keep an open mind as much as possible. Even if I didn’t find someone all that attractive I didn’t let that stand in my way. Your soul mate could slip right by you cause you were hung up on having a type. My fiancé isn’t someone I would’ve seen myself with 10 years ago but because I let go of the idea of finding a person who physically ticked all or most of my boxes I found the love of my life. And the sad part is my fiancé is pretty attractive, even outside of what I think. But he wasn’t my idea of attractive some time ago. I felt bad for Mark too I watched this this year for the first time then I found out not only was he cheating on Jessica(allegedly) with women he met at work but he also dated LC(the other girl the frat boy couldnt decide between for a while) after filming of the show and he cheated on her with someone else too(allegedly i dont know if they will sue over a comment but im covering my butt here). Mark was portrayed as a good guy but if that's true he isn't at all and Jessica's outbursts towards him make a bit more sense if she suspected it at the time although she was 100% a mess the entire time and wasn't entirely in the right at any point.

Honestly this show would've been so much interesting if the contestants were more diverse in terms of beauty. I don't recall seeing anyone with piercings, colored hair, tattoos or anyone plus size, Asian, Latin, etc. I find it hard to belive that some of the people would feel so intense about their couples if they were not so "conventional"

I started watching and in the first few episodes there’s this conversation where the guy is like “What happened to you to make you feel like you’re not beautiful?” And she’s like the most conventionally gorgeous woman ever. It would be a completely different show if she was like, a burn victim and the answer to his question was “my face literally melted and now people treat me like a monster”
There were more couples that had a lot more physical diversity as well. Only the “attractive enough for TV” couples were shown, even if they were t successful.

Jessica is immature for sure, but I have some empathy for her situation. I dated a guy for over a year when I wasn’t physically attracted to him. Every time I tried to talk to him about it, he would gaslight me or swear that with enough time I would become attracted to him. He had been my close friend for years, and out of guilt and manipulation I stayed in a relationship that was toxic and ultimately grew abusive. Mark seems just as immature and manipulative and in a way I can really feel for Jessica.

I got roped into watching this show during a bachelorette weekend last year, and the other two girls watching it with me (including the bride) took it incredibly seriously and even cried. I felt like I was in the twilight zone because I did not find one romantic thing about the premise at all. I started wondering if there was something wrong with me like I was some kind of unromantic curmudgeon, because I found it absurd and only absurd. Sometimes I like getting invested in trash reality TV, but I couldn't suspend my disbelief for even one second watching this. It's melodramatic but not in a fun way -- in an exhausting way.

1. Yes big age gaps are extremely bad, you'll never fully be on the same page and it's kinda creepy, but considering it's either 10 years with an emotionally stable, accepting man, or 7 years with a guy who's with someone else, and thinks of you as a last resort, I don't get her hold up!
2. Amber gives me big grade 8 me energy, where because they're deemed as unthreatening she's overaggressive to compensates, but she also has a hint of pick me girl in there! What a great recipe, obviously a completely healthy person who isn't changing themselves to meet an imaginary standard.
