Fr and Colton literally traumatized his ex to the point she had to get a restraining order after he stalked her and like the franchise just pretend that’s all fine and dandy cuz he was just closeted
The fact that people weren't enraged upon learning about the mere existence of Antebellum parties already tells me everything that I need to know about fans of The Bachelor.
I actually don't see the antebellum term as being inherently racist, but only because there's a very unique aesthetic attached to the "old south" that can be appealing. If you have a large victorian house with a wraparound porch next to some oak trees with spanish moss on them, it's going to look distinctly southern, regardless of whether that house ever belonged to plantation owners. I realize that it's a very fine line between glorifying the southern aesthetic and glorifying the confederacy, but I'd like to think that people can appreciate period architecture while hating slavery. Throwing an antebellum themed party is bizarre though. Just stick with "victorian" and invite those black friends you tout so fervently. Don't have any? Maybe the desire to throw an antebellum party is part of the reason why.

I know that The Bachelor is looked upon by most as just another silly, “harmless” game show, but if anything, the producers, show hosts, and editors are spreading harm and misinformation with their platform. The part in which Chris Harrison tried to explain to a black woman why going to Antibellum parties was “okay in 2018” was particularly egregious to me. A huge thank-you to Jarvis, and to everyone here, for calling them out on their bullsh*t.
In one breath it’s “white people shouldn’t talk about race to colored people” and then in the next it’s “colored people shouldn’t have to explain racial experiences to white people” your logic doesn’t make sense. You all aren’t serious about finding solutions because you get too much fun out of pointing fingers.
@@Autumnaul Hey, thank you for letting me know that my logic may have some flaws. It’s always good to have honest feedback, as that helps me to improve myself as a person. I suppose the point that I was trying to make boils down to the fact that white people should not explain what is and what is not racist to black people, because they are not coming from a place of experience. Those who have experienced racial prejudice should be the ones to define what it means to them, is all I meant. It’s heathy to have a differing of opinions, though, and I’ll never respond with anger to being refuted; I’m sorry that my original point wasn’t clear. Have a great day!
@@Autumnaul when did this person ever say poc shouldn't have to explain racial experiences to white people? I know thats a lot of people's pov but they certainly never mentioned it and I don't understand why op apologized to you for something they never did. Most of the people saying poc shouldn't have to explain come from a place of, "hey, poc shouldn't have to explain why actively harming them is bad, having empathy would make that crystal clear." And there are tons of poc willing to educate others on their experience, but sharing that experience, as shown in this video, leads to being harassed and talked down to. It's obvious why poc aren't willing to go there with people who don't understand their lives, considering most of those people are either aggressively racist or supporting people/laws that are taking away minorities' rights.
@@pegsies. I believe OP responded that way because the commenter generalized a group argument rather than what OP said. Someone got angry at me for the same thing the commenter said. I responded in support of a BLM video and gave the closest experience I had as a white person and they called me racist and stupid. I ran it by my friend who is black to make sure and she said it was not racist in any way. The person who got angry with me also refused to explain how what I said was upsetting and instead told me not to tone police them when I asked them for constructive criticism rather than an attack.
@@earthtovesna It’s very frustrating when people don’t want to explain themselves just cause you’re white “and you should know better.” I believe if there’s one thing that’s going to help us better handle racism is communication and spreading knowledge. We should promote healthy conversations that help combat ignorance rather than senselessly fight with emotion.
If they let me be a Bachelorette, I'd make the whole season as weird and awkward as the intro part then at the end I'd choose myself. Thus ending the cycle of Bachelornation and defeating Chris Harrison.
i would just be so clearly lusting after fame and money *on purpose* and make it clear to everybody else that while, most of em are pretty cool, im not into them
I’d dress normally for the entire season. I’d be wearing chunky platform boots, and I’d threaten to punch everyone in the face constantly. If I had a Bachelorette season, I’d make it as chaotic as possible. It would make for some great entertainment.
"the difference [between racist behavior and racially insensitive behavior] doesn't matter when you're on the receiving end" Thank you, Jarvis. I don't get why more people don't understand this.
@@quirkyblackenby I totally get what you mean here, tho I think the difference lies on the source itself. Racism is and always will be racism. There is no point on downplaying it or sugar-coating it. However, racism is a complex social issue that arises from different origins. Racism can come from a place of hatred and intolerance (the worst kind) and it can also come from ignorance, which is where “racially insensitive” behaviours come from. I want to believe in the best of people (and I’m aware that it can be pretty foolish). I truly believe that it is possible for someone to not be at heart a racist individual, but still display racist behaviours. There are so many reasons a person can be misguided, whether it’s family, friends, culture, religion, media, etc, and so long they are willing to change for the better, then I think they’re not inherently a bad person. I’m not saying that it’s up to POCs to “fix” other people’s mistakes however. When someone hurts another person, regardless of their intentions as Jarvis explained, they should always reprimand their past actions.
i would say it matters. problematic behavior have different sources and if someone's trying to be hateful or offensive it's way worse. idk if people feel the same when it comes to race but for example if someone says something homophobic because they're uneducated and then understand what was wrong and apologize, i won't feel equally offended as when someone is being deliberately homophobic. i think the intention matters
@@denied7616 But the homophobic action itself is problematic. I think that’s what Jarvis was trying to get at. It doesn’t matter what the intentions were, because the action is not excusable. However, if a person sincerely apologizes for said action, then yes they can be forgiven, but not excused. You can’t eliminate the direct consequences of an action after someone is forgiven. But then again, maybe that’s just me.
Fun fact, I am from rural TN, grew up with friends who did civil war reenactments on a regular basis, and I knew that antebellum parties were a problem in 2018.
@@jth_printed_designs so an Antebellum themed party is going to be shooting for one specific aesthetic, the plantation owner/southern belle. These were children of rich plantation owners, not your everyday farmer’s family whose clothes would be far less elaborate. You won’t see an antebellum party where the men are dressed in rather plain clothes and Union suits, and the women in more suitable working dresses. Instead, you will see the men in waste coats and women in elaborate dresses. Basically, you will see a party themed to plantation ownership, which was a racist institution as it relied on slave labor.
@@barryallen2240 its less that and having a party where you act like a bunch of slave owners. A civil war reenactment is more focused on the battles and not the out of war life of a slave owner.

Antebellum-themed parties as LARPing slave owners is the best short hand I've heard for it. Chris trying to defend it by saying it was in 2018 and things were different gave me a START.
in these times it's just a dress up event and now u have blacks wanting to be in tv shows in period costumes, there was even a black girl who was also dressed up at that event
If something's wrong, it's wrong, no matter the time. Are they going to say "slavery's bad, buy you gotta give it to the slaveowners, it was in the 19th century, so don't blame them" next?
@@bib4eto656 This is the exact shit people say. My father for example does not understand why I hate Thomas Jefferson so much, and when I bring up slavery he always uses the "it was normal back then" excuse. You love to see it.
@@ii_caelus_ii I see! But then there were a certain amount of people from that time who realized it was wrong, despite it "being normal for the times", and that's why it ended. Men like Thomas Jefferson were well-travelled and highly-educated, learning history and philosophy - you'd expect they'd know better, too, so you tell him his argument holds no water 😁
I find it hilarious that they introduced new women midway through the season. Then there was this gang War between the originals and the newbies. Then a new girl shows up and the newbies and originals team up against her.
Okay when she tells Matt that she "doesn't think he's her person" and he just kinda sits there and then goes "i dunno"? I can honestly say that i feel this on a spiritual level
Matt is too relatable tbh. The love of my life, married to me for fifty years, could say “I love you” to me and I’d probably awkwardly stare for a minute and say “Thank you for sharing that with me.”
if you confess your feelings to your crush and all they have to say is "thank you for sharing that with me tonight." you _just_ have to move to another country and restart
side note, after all the things the other women have said about the scenes that were cut and the fact that most of them seem to be on very friendly terms, i think it's really disgusting that the one season focused on a black man and a predominately non-white cast was edited so heavily that he comes off as bland and aloof and they all come off as petty and toxic. they reached all the way past most of the final set of women for katie as bachelorette and then backtracked when all the racism allegations came in to offer another slot to michelle.
i assumed that they avoided giving him a bad/dramatic edit like they do with everyone else because they didn't want to be called out for manipulating/misleadingly editing the first black lead for drama
They give every male lead an incredibly bland edit on purpose, it's just especially noticeable this time because Matt was never on the Bachelorette so the audience didn't get a chance to know him then. I agree about how the cast was edited though.
I agree the Bachelor franchise is very racist, but it’s not true that they backtracked and chose Michelle second. As the other commenter said, Katie was asked to do the earlier season after Michelle refused to film until after the school year ended. Important to get the facts right!

fr. i did not know that was a thing and now I can't believe it's a thing.

"the difference [between racist behavior and racially insensitive behavior] doesn't matter when you're on the receiving end"
Thank you, Jarvis. I don't get why more people don't understand this.
I've heard this said about jokes, too. And I agree.
Also I genuinely don’t think there’s a difference. Racism is racism regardless of the reason behind it
@@quirkyblackenby I totally get what you mean here, tho I think the difference lies on the source itself.
What's wrong with Civil War reenactments?
@@barryallen2240 its less that and having a party where you act like a bunch of slave owners. A civil war reenactment is more focused on the battles and not the out of war life of a slave owner.

Fun and hilarious. Somehow it was both a perfect parody and a better dating competition show.
if you confess your feelings to your crush and all they have to say is "thank you for sharing that with me tonight." you _just_ have to move to another country and restart
side note, after all the things the other women have said about the scenes that were cut and the fact that most of them seem to be on very friendly terms, i think it's really disgusting that the one season focused on a black man and a predominately non-white cast was edited so heavily that he comes off as bland and aloof and they all come off as petty and toxic. they reached all the way past most of the final set of women for katie as bachelorette and then backtracked when all the racism allegations came in to offer another slot to michelle.
i assumed that they avoided giving him a bad/dramatic edit like they do with everyone else because they didn't want to be called out for manipulating/misleadingly editing the first black lead for drama
They give every male lead an incredibly bland edit on purpose, it's just especially noticeable this time because Matt was never on the Bachelorette so the audience didn't get a chance to know him then. I agree about how the cast was edited though.
They asked Michelle first but she wanted to finish the year with her students. So they offered to tape in the summer and it would air this fall.
I agree the Bachelor franchise is very racist, but it’s not true that they backtracked and chose Michelle second. As the other commenter said, Katie was asked to do the earlier season after Michelle refused to film until after the school year ended. Important to get the facts right!

Amen! Let people do what they want! Same thing with drugs, i support full legalization
Yeah I mean it's really not your business. Not everyone who does sex work is a victim, and it doesn't make you a terrible person either. It's just another method of getting by in life, so leave people alone about it smh
@@backwoodsjunkie08 you support cocaine being legal?
They totally brought Matt's dad on to show the world that he was breaking black stereotypes. Because outside of the drama that's the only reason to have him on.
Jarvis, did you have a premonition about them giving that stalker guy his own show just (edit, spelling) *for coming out as gay and completely overlooking the fact that he harassed and stalked that woman? Cuz man the timing for this video!
“Fraternity bro aged up 30 years” I’m cackling
🤣👍👍💜
I can't stop laughing at "Chicago is a small town" lmfao
As someone who got lost in Chicago, I thought it was absolutely hilarious
The SLOTH was the only contestant that mattered on the show ever
I haven't watched the whole video but I really hope he mentions Colton coming out as gay
Edit: OKAY so there were DEFINITELY more pressing topics to cover this season, I guess... Holy shit
D'Angelo, Nick, Danny and now Jarvis all uploaded in the same day. What did we do to deserve such good entertainment lmfao
Nick deserves subs..... Justice for Michelle and Nick..... But also we are truly blessed with the holy grail of content. NOW, ALL WE NEED IS FOR DREW TO JOIN DANNY AND KURTIS IN MINECRAFT.
@@iloveroses208 who is Nick? What's the name of his RUclips channel? I watch all of them except for this Nick person
@@carta360 if they mean nick diramio, (I feel like it is because similar to Danny) then yes he’s so funny movie/tv reviewer
@@aleinad Thank You. Let me check him out. First time I've heard of him.
I love how he’s wearing kurtis’s merch
